A health update!
Posted 4 years agoHello Folks!
Hope you're all well just thought I'd give you an update!
The eye test at the opticians revealed that I need glasses with a very light prescription, and anti-glare treatment on them (can't remember official name, but they have a slight green tint).
I've applied the night mode to as many websites as I use as possible, and also changed the display on my desktop to dim/night mode options/and green tint, and this has really helped!
I've had my new glasses for about a week or two now, and I'm able to use Photoshop for long periods again without headaches, but have been told to take more breaks (lol as if).
For more info and tidbits on what I've been up to, remember that my SFW Patreon is free to view!

Thank you again for the advice and support!
Take care, and thank for your time

Removing the Paywall
Posted 4 years agohttps://www.patreon.com/posts/remov.....ywall-48225502
In case the link doesn't work:
I've thought about it for a while, and I think I want to remove the Paywall from my work.
I deeply appreciate the support of my patrons, and will of course give regular donators more benefits, but I think I'm going to stop worrying about uploading there first.
I'm realising now I may have something called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria.
I'm going to be uploading work on every site at the same time, to try and negate the painful feelings I get when I perceive my work as being 'rejected', as it can seriously eat away at my productivity.
I've been doing a lot of work on the sets and props for my dolls, and I can't wait to show you all!
All the best

Posted 4 years agoPlease please PLEASE consider supporting me on patreon, or Kofi.
I regularly update my patreon with wips etc, and find comments deeply encouraging.
https://www.patreon.com/loucathwil
I try to update on there first before uploading here, because I figure that they're paying for it, but I run out of momentum when I don't get the praise/reactions I was hoping for and them am to burnt out to post here or anywhere else.
I'm trying to move away from commissions as I always seem to undercharge, and end up extremely burned out for a good few months afterwards.
I don't know what to do, I don't want to guilt trip people, but I'm just so tired of being so shit at supporting myself. I'm on a waiting list to get treatment and a diagnosis for add/adhd/whatever the fuck is wrong with me so they can help me with my executive dysfunction issues and my lack of consistency.
It feels like I'm consistently digging holes, but in the wrong place, and with spoons, so I never get anywhere despite feeling exhausted.
Thank you, Ultra Fox

Posted 5 years agoAdvice please: indoor home photo studio stuff
Posted 5 years agoHi guys, hope you're all well,
I'd like some recommendations on photo studio stuff for me to get please?
My birthday is coming up, and my Partner has asked me what I want. I want to have a better set up at home for taking photos of my dolls indoors. I have a camera and tripod that I'm happy with, but I don't really have any good back drops, and I rely completely on daylight at the moment.
I've been watching loads of tutorials, and they're somewhat helpful, but mostly confusing. I just want a green screen backdrop that I can key-Out in Photoshop (maybe a plain white and plain black backdrop too), and reliable light sources. Could you recommend stuff for me to buy please? Everything I see is either too big, or too small (my dolls are about 40cms tall).
Thank you
Louise

Posted 5 years agoHey Guys, Just wanted to say something to those of us who're are either directly or indirectly from Western European Colonising Nations.
if someone like me can move on from hateful and hurtful beliefs around race, so can you.
The journey is long; I'm still on it, and I'm not sure where the destination is, but there are plenty of landmarks, and knowledge to guide us.
And you won't be walking it alone. We can do better.
We'll acknowledge our mistakes without dwelling.
There are times when we'll need to see and hear and learn things that make us uncomfortable, but they're important to help us progress and keep going; they'll help us fix the missing stairs our forebears didn't.
Also, please think about how addressing this systematic prejudice of P.O.Cs will help other marginalized groups. I believe they're all connected in some way, and by helping Black Lives Matter, you WILL be helping all lives.
If you object to any of this, please unfollow me, until you're ready to take the journey.

Posted 5 years agoPlease feel free to copy and paste this journal! (don't credit me, it's not my work) I got this info from someone on instagram, who shared a screencapped tweet
https://youtu.be/bCgLa25fDHM
Hope you don't mind me sharing this here, but if - like me - you don't have money to donate to support people of colour in these important times, please open and play this video!
Ad revenue goes directly to associations that offer protester bail funds, help pay for family funerals, and advocacy listed in the beginning of the video.
"If you want to 5tr34m this, you can copy from how k-pop fans do it;
once you finished the entire thing, proceed to watch any 3 to 5 videos (literally any length of the video will do, plus randomize the number of vids you watch AND the videos themselves they will count as spam if you watch the same 3-5 videos) after this. once you've done that, watch this again in the highest quality. rinse and repeat! "-C.D. ai-0139
I think it helps to comment too?

Posted 5 years agoHello Folks, I hope you're all well.
I'm sorry to bring up something negative and scary, but I've been seeing lots of updates on the protests in the U.S. to confront the racism in the police and the system as a whole.
I just wanted to say to the P.O.C who're on this site, regardless of where you are location-wise, I hope you're alright, and have friends close by.
Yes, this is a somewhat empty pleasantry, as I can't physically or financially help (much), all I've really been doing atm, is reading and sharing information on Black history and Activism.
But just wanted to make my stance known; you deserve to be happy and safe xxxxxxx

I'm currently reading: Black in the British Frame, it's an interview conducted with Stephen Bourne by Onyekachi Wambu, and they're discussing British film.
I confess; as soon as they mentioned growing up in London, I was hooked.
If - like me- you're currently sewing or doing something where you need to keep your hands and eyes moving, there's this Podcast/talk where Stephen talks about Aunt Esther, a Londoner of Colour (please correct me if this term is wrong) Born here before ww1.

Should I move from Patreon to Ko-Fi?
Posted 5 years agoHi there!
Having Patrons for this last year really has made a big difference to my self esteem and productivity. Although I am still a scatterbrained person (learning difficulties and anxiety), so it has been a struggle to think of what to share on there that's worth sharing.
Also, I'm noticing that I seem to get a lot more verbal feed back on my work when posting to other social media sites and art communities (like here), but I don't feel right sharing things with here that I think my patrons should have priority over.
Lastly, I am a person who has to watch their spending, as I never know how much-or-little money I will have from month to month, so I am always anxious to avoid anything that requires regular payments, so if feels kinda hypocritical to expect anybody else to be okay with that.
I want to share more wips, but not have a money wall there, but a means of support and tipping.
I want to show you all more of the stuff I have been doing at Centrepieces (http://centrepieces.org/), a mental health Art charity based in Bexleyheath, UK. I've had a studio space since January, and it's helped my work so much! (also, more free space at home!). I have lots of dolls to show you; old and new, and I want to show you whats for sale!
Sorry for the super long sentences. Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts.
Best Wishes
Louise
