General | Posted 15 years agoWell I must say that was a great first year of University (went much better than the first time round lol)
These last 9 months have been the busiest and most sociable of my whole life, and I still managed to get some sewing done!
I will be uploading all my plush-relevant work from this year, so expect lots of messages.

University
General | Posted 16 years agoLife at Coventry University has been going REALLY well!
I've never felt so happy studying, and I haven't had a social life this busy in a LO- well actually, ever :D
I've just finished a project I was working on in a group to design a Therapy and Learning Toy for Disabled children (I/we decided to specialize in children with learning difficulties), and I was really pleased with the results.
For the rest of term, we're going to be concentraiting on personal work; improving on our drawing skills
I've also found a local comic book store that teaches drawing for graphic novels (paneling, pacing, shots etc.) and it's once a week.
The man hosting it is a comic book artist called Al Davison - he's a really cool guy - he's working on a drwho comic book at the moment - I've only had one lesson so far but I've learnt what I think are some important points; and for £8 a lesson it'd better be worth it, lol
so guys, what're YOUR favourite industrial designs?

watching the fandom
General | Posted 16 years agoSomething that puzzles me the most about the 'furry/therian/anthro/actually,i just really like animals' community
You* have so much love, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness for animals...but very little for each other
why is that?
You* all have very different interests and ethics that all in the end link you together for your basic passions.
I just get the feeling if we all spent less time arguing our innocence and non-participation in the more taboo and outright 'bad' acts of folks in the community and more time celebrating and promoting the positive and our more favoured side of it all, I think we'd be a damn site less vulnerable to all this self loathing and embarrassment.
Every subculture out there has a side its ashamed of (e.g. Goths and bondage, Ravers and date rape drugs, Indie and not being indie in the slightest - actually indie was annoyingly mainstream ing the early 00's, Rn'B and chavs etc.) but thats not the whole story! people wouldn't be in these groups if they didn't have mainly positive properties - the same is true of this one.
So, I'm going to make the promise, that whilst at university, if the 'furry/therian/anthro/actually,i just really like animals' subject appears in conversation, I shall not do as I have in the past, and speak soley of my digust in the sexual/unsavoury component of the fandom, but of what it is that I really love and enjoy about it; what it is that drew me to it in the first place.
Because trust me guys; I may not be a furry, but I am a fan of the 'dom' - if I really didn't like it I'd leave, since I have no reason to be here.
I read the dicussions and arguements on here and you know what? you people are so articulate, you are so patient, and you sum up the facts; a couple of times I have left myself vulnerable to attack on here by admitting my annoyance but lack of knowledge in a few subjects, and have instead been offered links and friendly reassurance. I really like you guys; you are good people; you are good artists.
Yeah, my grammar; I need to learn to it, I know.
but yeah, I did want to write you a journal about my seeing Avenue Q and District Nine on the weekend - and OH! I saw Zowie Bowie's new film Moon last night - excellent stuff! oh! and my mum is doing alot better now thankyou! and everything's great right now... but I just thought I'd write this journal tonight instead.
Peace,

*well, okay yes, me aswell, I'll get off my highhorse, he's making my thighs itch.

General | Posted 16 years agoAll I can say is, thank goodness for youtube
really, I am so happy right now, I am happy because I have found an old childhood favourite, let me explain.
Our grandad - he'd see me and my sister enjoyed a cartoon film and thought he'd tape it for us to watch later...however, had a tendancy to do this halfway through the films in question... so alot of the minor feature-length cartoons I loved as a child I have no idea what they're called, no idea how they started. D'oh!
Anyway, this particular 'jap cartoon' as it was labeled by my grandad XD (please don't judge - he's from a different era) - was about this kid who fought dragon kings, with a ribbon and a gold wrist bangle! it wasn't till I was alot older I found out this child was actually a little boy! (feminine as hell) and everyone called him 'Nie - yah'...niya? how the hell do you spell that?...so I put 'Dragon King' into the youtube search engine instead and what should come up first? none other than my favourite scene from the film!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43WJsiH9aU0&feature=related
I really want a toy of that creepy pink dragon, he's awesome
anyway, I'm very happy right now, and hopefully now I'll know what to look for on amazon for when I purchase this on dvd.
I'm going to go watch it from the beginning now
EDIT: aha! I've just gotten to the bit where he's resurrected, and comes back to fight the dragons whilst wearing a flower frock, wielding flaming rollerblades, a silk ribbon and a gold javelin

Berlin Bear and Bolt
General | Posted 16 years agoHas anyone else been watching the Berlin Atheletics?
A couple months ago, someone asked me if I had heard of Ussien Bolt, to which I replied 'nope, only the dog'
But wow! what a character! the guy is so cheeky and very fast!
I'd really like to start a meme of Bolt - since all he ever seems to be doing is giving team mates 'bunny rabbit ears' in photoshots. I'd like to commission someone to draw it quickly whilst it's still relevant (I would do it myself, but I'm very slow on photoshop atm), just a white background, with Bolt leaning as if behind someone, doing the bunny rabbit ears gesture - so that folks can fill it in with their chars
what do you think? I think it'd be funny.
Also - yay berlin bear, giving fursuiters a good name ;P j/k

I'm back - teal deer alert! skip to bottom
General | Posted 16 years agoHey there,
I came back alot later than I expected, for several reasons - one being: traveling from london to Norfolk, I have to use the national express via london liverpool street.. and it seemed this month the east anglian train unions decided to demand a pay rise in the middle of a recession
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/stand.....+St/article.do
This also affected my friends who met up with me and my boyfriend to go see Walking with Dinosaurs - the arena spectacular (which btw was awesome...despite the very high seats and chair kicking parents [no not children, PARENTS])
On the weekend, we then had a lovely camping trip in eastbourne (well, pevensey bay) and saw a beautiful orange moon - did anyone else see it?
We now come to my next reason for staying in london - money.
I am unemployed, and have been for well over 9 months - I find it very difficult to get menial jobs, as to be honest it really isn't my life-time goal to be a manager in a fucking chain retail store, neither do I aspire to be the big cheese in a poorly air-conditioned office, with the one-sided 'laws' of animal farm, and twice the fat pigs and mindless clucking hens.
yeah, my time in these jobs is usually abruptly ended by anxiety and panic attacks induced by coworkers and managers alienation, apathy, and constant whip-cracking when I'm at full-fucking-working capacity. Dyspraxic people are not built for these jobs - we try our hardest and it is never enough. Ever.
But I do still try for these jobs despite my hatred of them, but they only ever seem to want to hire regular customers- primarily students in fulltime education, or those already in employment - which really defies the whole point of wanting a job in HMV or Borders, don't you think?
So yes, I had to wait for my dole to come through before I could go home - that and I was coming up to see my boyfriend the next weekend regardless, to attend his band 5th year anniversary party. Boy was that fun 9
_9
He'd been dreading going to the party for a while (as he does every year), as his fellow band mates are your typical rock n' rollers- heavily dependant on drugs, in unsatisfying jobs, and they don't seem all that cushty with their significant others either (i.e. they are thier female equivalents).
Well, not as happy and me and my boyfriend are together - and it would seem that pisses them off alot more than I thought - we had always tried to calm it down infront of them (you know, go off and mingle in other rooms etc.) - I NEVER EVER get in the way of my boyfriends relationship with his band - Infact, I encourage it - I know that it is important to him, and I know they have been together longer than he has known me, and plus the other members make some pretty good music (when theyre not procrastinating or drowning in their own self pity), and that they've been there for him when he's down and they're friends.
So there we are at the party - good bbq food, good drink, good music - a great start. Something I haven't mentioned though; me and my boyfriend; we're not into smoking (especially not pot; though this is usually accepted as a mass insult from his friends and [especially] their girlfriends) and we prefer to sip our drinks (if we have any at all that is; this it would seem is an even bigger offense, and I had whisky in my water just to get them off my back...although it did taste quite nice) rather than chug.
After a night of fun watching the band members play-fighting, having good convos with folks etc. etc. the guitarist (who is usually quite shy around me) starts having a go at me in a jokey way; about my living in norfolk, my not understanding facebook comments, 'i could take you in a fight' etc. etc..
so I'm pushing him back (part playfully too - because he was just being playful, despite what he was saying he was meaning it a jokey sort of way.....but not completely jokey) and then wham, he rugby tackles me into the sofa(couch) to pin me like in the play wrestling. Which really caught me by surprise, so I pin him down (cos he was drunk anyway and so easy to handle...and probably holding back a bit) and give him a wet willy, then get off, and he tries it again! to pin me, and again, I pwn him infront of his girlfriend (who is at this very time recording the whole thing on her phone for the lulz) and twist his arm up behind his back, and get him to give in. So then he gets up, all sulky, stands next to my boyfriend...
....and starts with the whole 'you stole him from us, you stole him from the band' bulllshit - fellow girlfriends and boyfriends of musicians; you know what I'm talking about, right? and then turns to my boyfriend saying all shit like 'you need to learn your woman who's boss' to which he replies "I don't have to 'learn' her anything, shes an independant woman, and it already looks like she taught you a lesson". And then the guitarist tries to go all jokey (but slightly angry) with 'how can boobies be better than bass etc. 'give me ten reasons why a woman is better than a bass' etc. etc. etc. I'm not new to these attitudes, and I had a feeling thats what the band was like all along (with the exception of my boyfriend - who is the put-upon comedian, who is always initiates the band actually getting something fucking done)...but still, it dissapoints me, you know? I thought they would be better than that.
Everything was nicey nicey when we left (that is, when we were ALLOWED to leave, lol they insisted that we sleep over but we declined) and I did have a nice talk with some of them. My boyfriend apologised, and advised me not to go next year, but I don't really want him to go either if they just keep doing the 'why won't you have a drink?, gargh! you're gay!' routine... oh well it's not my problem now.
Anyway, finally got home - I had been eager to get home as my dad had called to tell me apparently the Uni has decided to change the title of my course from toy design to product design and my mum has been diagnosed with depression. This has me torn -
Part of me worries about my mum; will she be okay? I don't want her to get suicidal like I did, I hope she doesn't have to take meds etc.
Another part is pleased by this opportunity, as she has been stressed for well over a year now, and perhaps this depression will be the healing point - she'll find it easier to express her creative side, she can open up to me and I'll know what to say and how she feels. And I can heal her, and maybe convince her and dad to get out of thier shitty office jobs and start thier own business!
Then....there is the part that wants vengance. I like many of you have been depressed, and had suicidal tendencies for two years - during this time, my parents were not the most sympathetic or supportive of folk. Infact, my mum was furious when I told her I wanted to die; her exact words being 'what do you think it would do to me if you died?!' . So they snapped at me alot; and dared me 'to do' it once (in the middle of a busy restaurant), and generally refused to even consider their actions may have been partly responsible for my feelings.
And so I am restraining the urge to take advantage of her weakened state. But it's hard.
Now I come back, and I am starting realise what others have told me many times and been right - must start charging more for my plushies (ESPECIALLY the postage - I just got stung for £15 for a package I originally calculated to cost £6 to send...was the box REALLY that heavy?)
This is a sad realisation for me, as part of my initial mission when making these plushies was to provide
fully articulate and anatomically correct dolls
adult hug-size
and a reasonable price for unemployed students like myself.
but it looks like things are going to have to change now; I can't have custom commission customers request a quote for a plush and then not pay up for several months (in some case years) expecting me to keep hold of the plush/materials in my already cramped storage...neither should they expect me to start work on a plush before receiving payment D:<
I am not refering to ANYONE in particular on FA (infact, the customers in question have all been from DA, and quite a recent case also) you guys have been great- really you have been absolutely wonderful - thankyou sooooo MUCH for all the plugging, faves, watches, input, and fun conversations; you really make my day!
But yes, I am affraid thanks to the shenanagins of customers past, I will have to introduce some more terms of service such as making price quotes last for a limited time after enquiry so that someone cant come back to me after two years and say, 'yeah I want that plush now at that price' - this is because my prices will change depending on complexityof design, cost of materials and postage, and my plushwork experience.
I hope that makes sense folks, and if you did read that teal deer, thankyou.

LT xxx

General | Posted 16 years agoHey there,
As you can tell, I'm heavily into real media artwork - aswell as being physically more tangible I also find it more mentally tangible too; it's alot more easy for me to manipulate and correct mistakes.
But, it's time I moved onto digital artwork, and I have little by little. I haven't much patience for machines, and I'm not the kind of person to play a game without reading the manual front to back first. I'm cautious to put it lightly. very lightly.
But I've hesistated too long, and made up too many excuses, on I go full throttle into photoshop-hood!
But hang on hang on, don't worry!; I have no intention of littering this account with digital work - no ladies, gents, and inbetweeners this is purely a hand-made area. I will be opening up a new account soon (no, not
Loucathwilworks - that's a safe house incase for some reason I have to leave this account).
And then I would like to try and start work on my online alterego - this is very difficult for me; I have tried and failed for several years to come up with a 'fursona' 'scalesona' - but there just isn't an animal that fairly represents me (that and in the past I've always just been comfortable drawing myself human - you may be digusted with me right now - trying to get in on 'the act' of having an inner beast...but I don't know, you guys - you just make it look like soo much fun!).
You see, I'm no predator, so I can't be something cool like a cougar, and I'm not particularily elegant either. Can't be a rhino because I certainly don't have a thick hide (sensitivity incarnate here!). And you guys always seem to pick animals that could take care of themselves in a fight - 'yeah don't mess with me I'm a chimeric swan hydra hyna and I could kick your ass' - to be honest with you I have no idea how I'd do in a fight; I can't even win a debate - even when I'm trying prove the sky is blue!
I'm not slick or firey... I'm wet and slimey...I'm thinking maybe an Axolotyl right now
Okey, enough of that, sorry if I'm comming off a bit self-pitying, But I have round the animals that I like and relate to most as Pigeons, and Herpetiles - particularily lizards, and amiphibians.

General | Posted 16 years agohey there,
I'm just updating this journal to let you know that the coralinesque plushie custom opportunity has past.
I am currently working on the following:

Bateleur and Magical_HATZ customs should be ready to send out on monday, I'm really enjoying this project :D
But I forgot how exhausting sewing by hand can be, #phew# I'm starting to feel relieved that I just have 4 plushies to make and not five!
thankyou so much for your involvement, this has been very rewarding for me - a great way to flex my sewing and pattern-making muscles in time for University.
For those of you who didn't know, In September, I will be attending Coventry University to attend a four year course in Toy Design (degree)

Meme interlude - Ask me a question
General | Posted 16 years agoI had an artistic epiphany today, so I'm very happy. On a walk home with my mum I had another idea for a story (Before I went into plushwork seriously, I was concentraiting on making cartoons) for a cartoon/comic I wanted to make.
At first it seemed a simple but separate little story about a mother and adult son on a journey together.Within the space of about fifty yards, in my head this story had evolved into a story about the galaxy - and then I had finally filled in the plot holes for a story I started work on back in 2003! Now it has become a world of stories - all interlinking to justify the first. I feel so accomplished right now, I feel excited.
I've stole this meme from
macroceli as I would like to open up to you guys more...without seeming needy, or an exhibitionist, or unapproachable or unstable etc, etc.
Here's an opportunity to ask me one question. Be creative. Or not. I'll try to answer as truthfully as I can...and each question asked will get answered. I just reserve the right to be more cryptic in ones that hit a little too personal.
Go!
there's just ONE slot left for the awesome little button eye felt plushies like this fox
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2546404/
The list so far is:
1 -
Bateleur - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2557866/ - sewing
2 -
Magical_HATz - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1317773/ - materials bought

They take about a day to make, and are 13 orso inches Long
I'm just copying this from the link but it says what I need it to say
Depending on the amount of colours used , I can make customs with this base for £8 GBP, including postage. that's $13 us dollars ladies and gentlemen, according to the Universal Currency converter http://www.xe.com/ucc/
Coats with two colours are the normal price (if nose if either black or pink, no extra charge will be added), though it's £1 extra for each new colour added (i.e a black, grey, white fox with a green nose would be £10/$16 including postage)
When I say including postage - that is regardless of whether customers are situated in the UK, the US (canada too), or Europe.
I'd like to take on only simple canines and felines at the moment (i.e. two arms, two legs, no wings, horns etc.) as well as birds too.
however, please bare in mind that the beak will be based upon the muzzle of the fox, so say for example your birds a macaw, the beak will not have much of a resembelance to your char.
Private message/note me with your requests, remembering to make sure you have:
A good reference sheet/design of said character
PERMISSION to use said character
Sufficient funds to pay for the plushie (including postage) within the next seven days of request (I want to finish these plushies by 31st of july)
A paypal account for the transaction (you must pay charges)
An address to send the package to
I will require fee up front for these plushies, once recieved, I shall add you to the list.
I'd like to start these commissions soon guys (as in, by the 31st of july), as I will be leaving for university in september. So I'd be grateful to get the fees out of the way asap. If you are unable to get fees ready within the next 7 days of request, don't worry, depending on the sucess of this quick-fire commission list thing, I may do another in august.

Just updating my quick-fire, mini felt plush commissions
I'm open to take commissions to make some awesome little button eye felt plushies like this fox
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2546404/
I'd like to take on only simple canines and felines at the moment (i.e. two arms, two legs, no wings, horns etc.)
EDIT- now added into the mix BIRDIES however, please bare in mind that the beak will be based upon the muzzle of the fox, so say for example your birds a macaw, the beak will not have much of a resembelance to your char.
And I have three spaces left open.

How do I make a character reference sheet?
General | Posted 16 years agoSo many of you have such lovely sheets to give a proper introduction to your creations
with fancy backgrounds, listed stats, diagrams, foot notes etc.
but how did you start making them? how did you plan it out?
I know it may seem obvious to you but it's a little overwhelming for me
are there any tutorials out there? do you have any advice?

Do you buy from etsy?
General | Posted 16 years agoHey there, guys thankyou for being patient, and thankyou for the great feedback on my work - I'm now fully up-to-date with all my uploaded work.
I've been doing alot of artsy crafts recently - trying to combine fabric with fimo (that's baking clay)
Basically, I would get the popper teddy eyes, cover the eye in fimo and keep the attachment free so I could pop the eyes onto plushies, great right?
I used this technique on the ood
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2494593
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2494615
well, seems that fimo tends to react to plastic in a corrosive manner - it even melted some of the crafting tools!
And when I put those poppers in the oven, whilst the eye melted inside the fimo, the popper would inflate in the heat - meaning I'd have to shave it down to get it to go through the popping hole. dangerous to say the least, as my blade is a fishing knife.
anyway, I'm back to good old faithful buttons... and I have quite a few black ones.
hmmmm, kind of like the black buttons in coraline
I've used some of these on a current project I'm working on, and they look very nice - when the time comes, I will upload my work for you to see what you think.
Also, as I am going to Uni soon, I desperately need some money behind me, and I'd like to know, if I list my plushies on etsy, would you be more comfortable buying them, as it seems not that many people seem that happy to work of purchases via notes on da.
so, if I upload my Plushies onto etsy with their prices (postage etc) up for all to see, would you buy them?
