Weekend Furry Retreat 2023!
Posted 2 years agoSo, it's nearly time for Weekend Furry Retreat, an online event that grew out of the sad ending of Tiny Paws Con (our local CT convention, and one of the most family friendly furry cons I've ever attended). You can check it out at https://www.weekendfurryretreat.org/
The main reason I'm posting though is after 30 years in the furry fandom as an artist and publisher this is the first time I've been selected to be a Guest of Honor! And it really /is/ a massive honor - https://www.weekendfurryretreat.org/goh .. I'm hyped for creating some really special art with everyone watching!
So please, if you've got some time spare during the weekend of August 11th to 13th hop online to Twitch and check out all the wonderful and creative folks helping bring this event to life! <3

Anthropomorphine #15 zine!
Posted 3 years agoIt's finally published! What started life as an early pandemic idea, and took two years to bring to fruition, is finally done!
And it looks lovely, 80 pages, perfect bound (which is something I always wanted to do for zines, but was out of my price range!), with color front and back covers!
More than 20 wonderful contributors helped bring this project to life, which you can check out at https://www.etsy.com/listing/127294.....urry-anthology
I'm incredibly proud of this publication, keeping furry zines alive is a passion of mine, after all! :)

Lockdown day 36,002...
Posted 4 years agoThis is certainly what it feels like. No cons, no events, and it's really starting to get to me at this point. Yes, I know in-person cons are starting again, but I'm not 100% comfortable as yet with this. I have a bad immune system myself and I don't want to be risking my health and safety.
On the flipside! Hey, I made more comics and zines!
First up is 'Knightly Endeavors' - an adult fantasy comedy/romance manga set in the same world as my Distant Thunder comic series. Knights, dragons and princesses and lesbians :)
Secondly, in my series of little how-to zines, is 'Foxtails #3' - A digest zine with short pun-laded comic strips, and a how-to section about how to make digest zines!
Both are available at my Etsy store, https://www.etsy.com/shop/EatMoreCat - with no convention revenue, this is another hard year on small vendors, so please give it a look! :)

Quarantine artsies!
Posted 5 years agoSo I've been at home a LOT (and got a lot of gardening done!) due to quarantine; my work decided to brand themselves 'essential' (they're not, but what can you do..) but we've only been working 2 days a week.
This left me a lot of art time.
As well as commissions, during this time, I've completed two projects;
"Maid Cafe Kemono Dessert Panic" - a silly 32 page full color comic book about 3 waitresses and their manager who work at a maid cafe and spend more time getting each other messy than actually serving customers. It's messy and full of dumb puns and slapstick jokes. I've had this thing rattling around in my head for *years*, so I'm glad I got it done :)
"The Furry Femmes of BDSM Coloring Book" - an 18 page black and white coloring book, printed on 110lb cardstock, secured with transparent plastic report cover and sliding bar to make it easy to remove single pages. Lots of furry gals having fun ;)
They're both on my Etsy store, in either digital or physical copies.

2020. Yeah, this Corona Virus thing is weird.
Posted 5 years agoHi there!
Yep, still me, still here.
Hey, I just finished a new full color comic and it's up in my Etsy store - https://www.etsy.com/shop/EatMoreCat
Unfortunately, Brass City Comic Con (my main Spring convention) was cancelled/postponed. Postponed at the moment, but who knows how long this is going to last.
As a consequence, that's a big hit in my convention sales, so I'm sharing my creative sites today in the hopes a few folks might take a look and see something they like the look of.

Litchfield County Zine Fest 2019
Posted 6 years agoFirstly, apologies; I forgot to snap a photo of my table, which I normally do at events. That's my bad.
Secondly! Event! Yay!
The second Litchfield County Zine Fest was held on September 22nd at the same venue as the first year, the Kent Community House, Kent CT.
Good news, it wasn't QUITE as warm in the venue as the year before, and the hall seemed to have new (or just, working?) A/C and fans, so it was comfortable.
Having been the year before, I knew the way, which helped. This year I was accompanied by one of my dearest friends, who has moved to the same city as me and she helped with set up and keeping an eye on the table. There seemed slightly fewer vendors that last year; this year's event had a lot less warning that it was happening and that might have affected things. That said, we had the same issue as last year in that for all the advertising, it's just not drawing in the public the way it should. That said, it was a fun day and some sales were made, FoxTails, Too! was a popular item on my table.
I also got to give a short presentation on using digital techniques in zine production, from scanning and enhancing pencil work, lettering comics, pasting digital files to produce comic pages, etc. That was fun, and something I'm still learning more and more about myself.
All in all, it was a fun day, and I love seeing the other creativity in the zine and smallpress world. As long as Litchfield County Zine Fest keeps running, I'll keep supporting it! And so should everyone in the CT/MA/NY areas!

800 and counting..
Posted 6 years agoAs some of you might know, I started drawing for fanzines back in 1993. And I'm still doing it today. Seeing a piece of my art in print still gives the same feeling.. be it a black and white fanzine, a convention book, or a hardcover art book.
I received my contributors copy of North American Fur (NAF) #39 just a few days ago in the mail, and with the pages in that.. I've now had (excluding actual full comics of my own) over 800 pages of art/writing in print. In fact, 652 pages of individual art, and 151 pages of short comic strips and text stories.
It's weird to think about. When I started drawing, I started it for fun. And that's what I'm still doing, these things just sort of happen..!
So to every furry or manga fanzine or comic, every furry or anime convention book, every World of Warcraft book I've drawn for.. thank you to all the staff and editors thereof! One day I'm going to line up everything I've drawn for and take a photo and it's going to seem crazy to even me to see them all together. Thank you so much to the countless people who have liked what I do over the years, or seen fit to print it. Here's to the next 200 and the big 1000 milestone! :)
Brass City Comic Con 2018!
Posted 7 years agoJust back from Brass City Comic Con 2018; a one day comic con event in Waterbury, CT. ( https://www.facebook.com/brasscitycomiccon/ )
I'd been invited to have a table by the organizer, TC Ford, when I met him at Bristol Comic Con a month or so back, so I figured, what the hey, let's give it a go!
The venue was the Naugatuck Valley Community College, in the Fine Arts building. It was a great day, sales were really good and everyone was so positive!
I've put more of a post on my Patreon page (set it public readable so anyone can see it!) - https://www.patreon.com/posts/18343317
But now here's the coolest part - I got interviewed by local newspaper Republican American, and here's the online article - http://www.rep-am.com/news/news-loc.....ity-comic-con/
(Note: it's behind a paywall sadly right now, but you can also see the photo at https://rep-am.photoshelter.com/gal.....000Uk42fj3GDYo )

It should be some fun, and I hope some of you come along for the ride so I can interact with y'all more than just typing :)

2017.. a year of productivity!
Posted 8 years agoHiiii!
So after getting issue #5 of my ongoing manga saga 'Distant Thunder' published - next up is the long awaited (by me anyway!), 'Voop!' issue #1 - compiled from the pages of Jarlidium Press' 'North American Fur' APAzine, Voop! follows the one page gag strip adventures of Fox and Vixen, and a whole host of woodland (and not so woodland) animals.
It's up for sale on my Etsy store as of now at - http://etsy.me/2wvUQAu
And the front cover will be appearing in my gallery here on FA in just a moment ;)

2016 Thoughts! o.o
Posted 8 years agoWell, 2016 has come and gone.
Ignoring the things in the year such as the colossal disaster that was the US presidential elections, the celebrities not making it through the year.. the Philly Eagles not having a great season...
This is a personal retrospective instead. :)
* Firstly; this has been my most productive year of art in the last few decades, which was pretty awesome.
* A new comic book printed (I should get it in a few days, so it's technically now a 2017 publication..)
* Joining and being welcomed at a local weekly comic and artists jam, which is great.
* Having the cover art to the Anthrocon Pocket Guide.
And mainly; a HUGE thank you to everyone who commissioned me for art this year; 19 commissions in 2016, which is more than the sum of every year I've done commissions from 1993-2015 !
Whatever happens in 2017, here's to an artistic one!

Legion Zine
Posted 9 years agoWhilst not a furry/anthro project, it is an absolute honor to be a part of this; http://legionzine.tictail.com/produ.....arcraft-legion
A 100+ page book of full color art inspired by and of scenes from Blizzard Games' 'World of Warcraft: Legion' with profits going to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
There's some amazing artists and wonderful art in this (as we've been sharing progress and ideas as we've progressed our pieces, via a private Discord channel). I for one can't wait to see it in print, and I hope the community support is overwhelming! :)

And Live on Etsy!
Posted 9 years agoHi folks!
I took the step (with the help of my lovely wife) in launching our own web storefront on Etsy.
You can find it at https://www.etsy.com/shop/EatMoreCat
It will carry a variety of things; art prints, comics, portfolios, fanzines and all sorts of things I've had my hand in designing, printing, creating, etc!
I hope you'll check it out! And maybe, just maybe.. buy a thing :)

Anthrocon 2016
Posted 9 years agoSo, I couldn't attend Anthrocon 2016 due to family matters, and despite struggling initially to work out what I could draw for the convention book, I ended with an idea.
And an idea took form and shape and I submitted it, expecting it to be ignored based upon the text on the image - it didn't get in the convention book, but it was the front cover of the Pocket Guide, which was a huge rush for me, as a lot of people don't even read the con books, but everyone tends to rely on the pocket guide from time to time.
Imagining 7000+ people who might have looked at it over the convention weekend is fairly amazing! :)

Anthro New England. Vending. Artist things.
Posted 9 years agoHi everyone,
My journal is usually upbeat, and I try to keep things that way. Anthro New England, in it's second year, was the first time I've had a dealers table in many years at cons, excluding FurryCon last year, where I jumped between a dealers table and running registration (the two tables were almost next to each other, so it was possible, if a bit jarring!), but this was my reason for attending a con - to vend. That's something I haven't done since early Anthrocons and back even further, ConFurences (showing my age now! :)).
So, when we found out we'd got off the waiting list and had been granted a half table space, quick mass panic to assemble together all my comics, magazines (I've been a furry fanzine editor since 1993), art prints, some original art that I had already matted and framed.. and also some fun things for the evening dances that we figured people might want to buy; glowsticks and the like.
We (this is myself and my wife), under the monicker of 'Eat More Cat' (it's actually a real LLC!) were lucky enough to have a friend on the table next to us, and get to make a friend on the other half table, got our table space set up nicely.. and there we sat friday... and saturday... and most of sunday vending. And sold nothing.
Note, I don't mean, we didn't cover or break even on the table space cost, or even lose a little. Sales were zero dollars.
We went into Anthro New England feeling excited; it was going to be a different approach to attending cons, instead of being staff, actually getting back into sharing comics and art and fun with other attendees. As I'm sure you can all relate to, artist or no, going into an event of nearly 1000 attendees and not being able to sell a single thing, is a pretty soul destroying proposition. It did make me question whether art and comics was a thing I should be doing anymore; now, don't get me wrong, I primarily draw because I like it. But knowing at least one person out there thinks what you're doing is worth a few dollars is a nicer feeling than nobody liking it. This hit me pretty bad.
I couldn't really look at my art for a good few days without feeling sick of it. But, gradually I've gotten over that. Heck, I had two comics planned for release this year, and even a full ISBN'd perfect bound graphic novel. And you know what, I might be the least popular artist in the furry fandom, but I love this fandom anyway - I've met loads of good friends through it and shared good times, I even met my wife through it!
So... sorry, but I'm going to keep drawing :)

Manga Studio 5
Posted 11 years agoSo I had a whole number of odd issues with my laptop over the weekend, which led to a factory reset and reinstalling everything. Downside was, years ago I got given a free copy of Manga Studio EX 3.0 .. I had no clue what my serial number was!
So I went ahead and got Manga Studio 5 instead which arrived today. And wow it's got better since the very very un-user friendly version 3! I largely used it for speech balloons and effects once art was scanned in, and actually even finding the speech balloon function in version 3 was mostly guesswork.
This should certainly help comic productivity! :)

Summer 2014 and Anthrocon and everything else.
Posted 11 years agoSo wow, it was a year since I wrote my last journal here. Where did the time go?
Recently I quit my IT Manager job. Nothing wrong with the job, but the big news is I'm now living in the USA, having got married to the most wonderful lady I know! Still adjusting to things, and impatiently awaiting most of my belongings. I sent a few boxes of clothes (thankfully as I've been here a month already) and brought my laptop with me of course, as internets = important!
So I'm now a New England fur instead of just plain old England.
Went to Anthrocon 2014, Ops staff as previous years. Awesomely my art made it into the convention book again (no matter how many times that happens it's still just as exciting). "Secret Societies" was a tough theme to work to, so I went with Knights Templar. 2015's viking theme is going to be fun to draw detailed armored valkyrie gals though.
Four of my eight pieces sold in the art show, which I'm sort of happy with. Though I sold all pieces last year, so I'm not sure where I stand; it seemed a lot of art had few to no bids this year so it will be interesting to read the actual sales report at the end.
Highlight had to be holding our wedding reception at the atrium space in the Courtyard; hardly anyone was there to begin with, somehow by the end we had a wandering acoustic guitar player, numerous people, and a live DJ!
I also seem to now be on the staff of DrawnCon, FurCon and MagFest, so..busy times ahead!
PS: I want my belongings. My art desk and drawing board are there. Not to mention all my art folios.
back from Anthrocon 2013.
Posted 12 years ago.. and just about recovered too!
Wednesday night saw a midnight road trip with Kasi, arriving just in time to run over to Con Ops and get started with Thursday morning staffing.. we were both pretty dead by the end of that. A good perk was finding my art had made it into the con book again for this year! Our room wasn't available to check in until about 3:30pm, so as soon as we could it was 'get stuff upstairs, sleep'. :)
In preparation for a staff meeting Thursday night and getting my art hung in the artshow.
Friday was an early start, get to Con Ops for 9am equipped with Subway breakfast, start allocating our wonderful convention volunteers to jobs! Friday was also a great room party (much thanks to Susi, Jouva, Slippy and everyone else!)
Saturday.. Con Ops and then actually a chance to check out the dealers room! Bought some prints, chatted fursuits with a fursuit maker, got my copy of Dreamkeepers #3 (One of my current favourite comic books!), met Peter S Beagle, which was a real honour. I've loved "The Last Unicorn" (and a number of his other books) for years. I even brought my slightly dog-eared copy with me for him to sign :) He was a real genuine guy too and had a chat with me about his memories of England and a girl there he once knew. Pleased to say that August Henry's is kicking tail with their food again this year (and their black and tans are perfect!).
Sunday was much of the same, with a rush to get signing out of the art show done, finding I had no pieces to pick up - all 8 sold! Which was great! And trying to break down Ops stuff as quickly as possible, then an evening of paperwork getting all the volunteer sheets sorted out! Also dinner at Sharp Edge on Penn, which is a fantastic place for food and drinks!
I really should sort my luggage out now..
Anthrocon 2013, it's coming :)
Posted 12 years agoJust collected my eight pieces of art freshly matted from my local matt/frame store. And nicely matted they are too!
Sneak preview picture of all eight together coming shortly to FA!

Anthrocon 2012 almost here!
Posted 13 years ago.. and here I am in the US. My matted art made it safely with me in my luggage, thankfully!
I'm on staff for AC too, friends come and say hi if you see me :)
Anthrocon 2012.. planning ahead!
Posted 14 years agoWith Anthrocon being moved to June, it no longer clashes with a big charity event at the animal rescue center where I work.. hence, I can go again! yays!
I'll be planning on having a couple of panels in the artshow too.. got a big double sized piece planned for that, more details to come!
1000 Views! (part II)
Posted 14 years agoOkay, so I finally got the celebratory 1000 hits/views piece uploaded. I'm slow at these things :)
