Design Thoughts
Posted 11 years agoWell, I am sitting here enjoying a beer after having enjoyed some home-made buffalo wings and fries, contemplating my ideas at creating an avatar, and well, let's face it, an eventual fursuit. A glance at my favorites shows that I have been looking at a lot of suits of the canid/wolf variety. I note that there is a huge spectrum of such suits out there, from fully cartoonish, garish colors, etc., to very natural and life-like to the extent possible with regard to the head.
I found a picture of a wolf that I like, cropped it and set it as my avatar for now. I am not a graphic artist, and while I have made several valiant attempts to produce a graphic avatar, they are abysmal failures in my opinion. I have tried both digital and traditional methods. So it seems that I will have to work with other artists to produce the design I am looking for.
I want something which is more toward the natural end of the spectrum, avoiding the extremely garish looks sported by some suits. This doesn't make these bad or wrong by any means--some of these appear extremely well-executed and wonderful pieces of art, just not the effect I am looking for. Insisting on 100% lifelike appearance is likely to drive up the cost, and for various reasons I am will to accept some stylizing, some subtle simplifications, even some minimal graphic manipulation as long as it is not overly blatant.
My design is actually written into my stories, and a clearer picture will be painted there. As the design is magically created in the stories, so therefore it should be reasonable that the design just happens to be one that can be rendered in real life.
I do like the heads with at least a semi-movable jaw, and from some YouTube videos I like the effect it creates. Features such as good hearing, good field of vision, and proper ability to breathe well are important also, and I do see these criteria being addressed by various makers.
The head is the obvious focal point, and while elaborate handpaws and footpaws have been created, I am willing to accept some simplification here, for reasons of cost mostly. I have been looking at some prices, and I know that this will be merely a dream for some time, but this won't stop me from putting some ideas together, in my stories if nowhere else.

Gray Wolf
Posted 11 years agoOkay, so the Gray Wolf, aka Timber, Western, or True Wolf, appears to be the look I am going for, with a certain amount of artistic stylization applied as to the boundaries of the various color zones, but the shape of the head and the colors themselves should be realistic.
Sharp Teeth
Posted 11 years agoI keep breaking my flossers lately. I wonder if all this channeling of my inner wolf is causing my teeth to be sharper?
Tired
Posted 11 years agoJust finished six days in a work at work. I need the hours, but I'd rather work fewer, longer shifts and have actually a couple of days off in a row. Next week I'm only scheduled for four days, but my days off are all split up. Can't win.
Creation of a Wolf
Posted 11 years agoI am indeed feeling creative today, and have put some paragraphs together in a short story arc portraying the arrival and unveiling of the new wolf character I am putting together. I have most of the appearance worked out and will be working on some of the personality traits.
Barking and Howling
Posted 11 years agoI'm working up a new character/fursona. Middle-aged wolf, just starting to go gray, but not over the hill yet, kind of like me.
Went over to the tobacco store this morning, and when we got back all the dogs were barking and howling because they were excited that we were back, and I was barking and howling right back at them.

Second Thoughts
Posted 11 years agoThe Creator is having second thoughts about the creation. The result: Creation V2.0, new and improved. The stub of a fifth novel that I began a long time ago seems a likely place to hang this tale.
Parvum
Posted 11 years agoMaybe if I'm stalled trying to produce a magnum opus, I should try something more on the parvum side.
All Beau's Fault
Posted 11 years agoMy head is buzzing tonight with a million ideas and it's all Beau's fault. He posted about his experience at the Rocky Mountain con, and for some reason it rang so many bells in my head. Thoughts of things to write, tweaks I can make to things already written, questions to ask. I am bouncing up and down with some sort of inner excitement, something is waiting to pour forth, only I don't know quite where to start. Perhaps a couple of short story arcs will help to bring clarity and stability.
