Unexpected Covid + vet bills! Ko-fi help!
Posted 4 years agoHello guys. My grandpa recently caught Covid right after his second vaccine shot. He's been in emergencies at the hospital for almost a week now and my family and I have been making collective efforts to pay for the hospital bills. In addition to that, our 13 years old dog has been suffering from arthritis and she's been unable to get enough meds and attention due to this situation with my grandpa.
I decided to take this month easy to catch up with pending commissions and this came up unexpectedly a few days ago, so I'll be opening up Ko-fi donations for anyone who would like to help. Any amount is deeply appreciated!! I will be opening a couple of sketchpage commissions to help myself this month with my own bills as well.

Choosing to do what is right to me
Posted 4 years agoHello. I posted a status update not too long ago in a couple of my other media hinting at some announcement I would make shortly. I thought it'd be worth posting it here, so here it goes.
A lot of things have been rapidly changing in my life, I feel like my activity has been slow and my art has not been satisfying me as it is. I've been immensely blessed to have friends, regulars and supporters commission me during the past months and help me thrive in these times, in this household, however... I think the more invested I am in commissions and drawing things for other people in exchange for money or as a form of payment for something, the less satisfied I feel about my work.
I feel like I've lost track of who I am in regards to my art, gradually. Ever since I started living alone, I noticed art took on a much more serious and heavier attitude for me, since it's what pays my bills, there would be a gloomy feeling of burden and responsibility with it that made it difficult for me to enjoy it because I was drawing solely to pay my bills at some point and I lost track of what having fun and genuinely expressing my ideas was like.
I feel that this has greatly affected my performance over time, to the point where I feel heavily indisposed to draw anything at all unless it's what I desire, I wish to not feel like I've abandoned series like Message from the Universe, Chronicles and Wyvians, which in their own way brought me fortune and fulfillment.
For that reason, I'm choosing to do what feels right by me and narrow down my commissions slots indefinitely. I feel that focusing more on personal art and getting to pick what kind of characters and settings I get to draw for a commission will greatly improve my performance, will make clients happier and most importantly, reflect itself in the rest of my work.
It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth to feel "trapped" by constantly having to do commissions for a stable income when I've stated over and over again in my main page, taglines, conversations, Patreon & Twitter profile how important it is to me to show people how to go after their dreams and do what they truly love doing. I feel like I'm truly not living up to my own advice. I'm also aware that many of my supporters and followers are fans of my previous work, like Message from the Universe, Chronicles and just my spiritual themes overall that I know they are still patiently waiting for me to continue. I do not wish to make you wait any further.
It's for this reason that I will focus more on being true to myself through my art, I apologize in advance to my regulars if I become rather picky with what I choose to draw for art trades or commissions, this is just very important for me. It is also for this reason that I will be opening up a new Patreon tier for those who wish to have regular, monthly commissions. And even if you don't wish to get a commission and you simply wish to support my art and my journey as an artist and all these inspiring themes that I touch upon? Your support will be greatly felt and appreciated! Art is currently my main income and I fully intend to grow artistically with your help and support (:
Really. All of your support is appreciated. I do not underestimate the power of the smallest pledge and I intend to make Patreon work fully for me. I am at your service!
I will be joining Art Fight as well! This is something I've been meaning to do year after year... and always stopped myself from doing because of this "commission busy" mindset I've been trapped in. I desire to make beautiful art for people, not just for myself. I'll make sure to make a public post once my Art Fight profile is set up!

How to make gif files work?
Posted 4 years agoHello everyone c: I hope you're all doing great
I had a question. I've seen other people post animated GIF files around here and they work just fine, but I can't seem to make them work. Does anyone have any advice?

Redrawing your art?
Posted 5 years agoI'm kinda curious about opening a "DTIYS" (draw this in your style) commission slot.... like, how neat would it be to take on a commission to reinterpret people's ideas?
It's just a thought, but if anyone would actually like that then I'd love to see what piece of yours you guys would love to see redrawn!! I'm just craving some beautiful concepts with background but don't have many personal ideas atm ^-^

Stream requests reminder!
Posted 5 years agoAs previously announced, I will be celebrating an art stream next Saturday, Nov 21st (in three days!) where I'll be taking art requests, streaming Crowkid updates and perhaps commission work. By the end of it, we hope to be able to watch Pokémon: Power of One together to relive some memories and draw fanart of!
The time will be 3pm Central Time (CT). For those who would like to participate in the free stream requests, it's available for all Patreon supporters!! I don't know if I'll be able to draw for everyone but I'll do my best <3
The plan is to do these monthly art/movie streams and have the Patreon community vote for the next movie + fanart I should do for the next month \(^-^)/ I'm super excited for that!! Please don't miss it!
I hope you've all been well this month, let's do what we can to make it the best last weeks of the year~

Back + get stream requests!!
Posted 5 years agoFirst I want to say THANK YOU for being so patient! I took a break during almost the entire month of October for many reasons, like recovering from hand injury (hand is 100% fine now!), taking a break from overworking and moving out to a new place. It all went well!
And hello to all the new watchers ^^ I shall resume art soon and continue updating The Book of Chronicles... I'm fairly excited to be back to drawing and in this new, wonderful home!!
That being said, this will really be the beginning of a new chapter of my life... I would like to celebrate by officially reopening my art streams. I will host an art stream on Saturday 21th later this month and monthly streams after that. My awesome Patreon supporters will be able to get stream requests!! So if you want a chance to get freebies every month, you can do that for just 2$! We will also be watching Pokèmon: Power of One after the requests, hopefully every month we stream a movie together right after the requests ^^ I will also let patrons vote on movie polls to watch every month!!
I suggest it's a great moment to become a Patron since Patreon does charge at the start of every month, I would love for you to enjoy this month's content without getting double charges... so excited about reaching my 100$ a month goal too that means Crowkid readers will get longer page updates as a goal reward omg
I hope that you've all been doing well and had a great Halloween, I myself think any Halloween with a Mystery Skulls update is already a good Halloween (and BOY was The Future AMAZING)
What was your favorite thing about October??

What it is like to move out alone (my experience)
Posted 5 years agoOh I miss writting more journals... I actually miss interacting with people overall. I think my slight hand injury might be a blessing in disguise if it allows me to take a break from art to pay attention to other things.... for example, my 2 years experience of living alone in a foreign country.
Some of you might know that I'm venezuelan, I traveled to Peru in hopes of starting a life of my own, experiencing new things, maybe escape the hell that was going on over my country. I knew what I was in for when I decided to embark in a 3-days-long bus journey to a country I didn't know at all, with only an uncle that would leave a few months later and a passport at hand. Not gonna lie, as much as I toughed up, it was scary. I was here to start from scratch.
Living alone is... kind of what I expected? And at the same time it's not. I'm here to tell you my experience in hopes you can look forward to yours.
1. You have to eat (what a surprise!): I knew now that I lived alone, my mom wasn't gonna cook for me anymore obviously, so I had to learn how to cook for myself. Now this might suck if you're not a fan of cooking... personally it has been fun finding out I love cooking and it feels a lot like making art!
But you might want to take this into account: You eat every day and it is important that you do so properly. I know it's tempting to just order food all the time, half ass your meals or eat junk just to get away with it, but the way you eat will determine your health in the long run and doing any of the previous things often enough could affect your entire lifestyle, and that is because...
2. New habits will be your best friend or worst enemy! I have learned this the hard way. You live alone. You make your own rules. Sounds great right? It is! So long as you're a good ruler that is... if you start adopting crappy habits, even if they are small... they can become big. Watch out for bad habits and do not underestimate the power of small, good daily habits like eating at proper times and choosing a time to go to bed to. I cannot stress this enough. You are literally planting seeds and there might be no one around to tell you to stop doing stupid things with your life, so you may want to take care of your habits, you usually reap their benefits or their curse after a few weeks or even months... and to undo them can take just as much time.
3. It does get lonely. One of the main reasons why I wanted to move out was because I lived my entire life with a chaotic family. I really thought I wanted to live alone forever at some point and even bothered to get a small place and everything for one. And while it's very great and fun to handle everything by yourself without having someone else mess it up... you're not gonna like it after a while. You start craving that company.
There are ways to handle it though! Absolutely make sure you don't become stuck in your loneliness. It might evolve into depression if you don't do anything about your feelings. Going for a walk, looking up events and people to meet up with (at least prior the pandemic...), practicing a sport with a group of people, maybe something as silly as a hiking group, going to concerts... maybe you'll have to go to these things alone for a while but if you're consistent and frequent the same groups, you will eventually make new friends. I did it that way and oh boy I was the most socially awkward person wherever I went... but my determination to stop pushing people away from my life overcame all anxiety after a while and living alone became more enjoyable after realizing going outside and hanging out on a regular basis are very healthy things to do.
4. Do not live to pay your bills. You heard me. I will address this: I know a big part of moving out is to get a job and pay your bills, and this is like the scariest thing people constantly think about when they move out. I know, I actually had that fear on a daily basis, will it be enough this month? Will I get enough for this or that? Can I save up enough to buy myself something nice or should I just keep saving up? Do I buy the healthy but expensive food or do I half ass my meals so that I can get by?
Friends, if there's any bigger mistake about living alone, it's this one. In my experience, I spent an entire year being subconsciously terrified of losing everything any day, especially because I was literally alone in a huge country and it was my first time doing this. I didn't even have job experience or contacts and my family couldn't help at all since they were in a worse circumstance, but month by month, I kept noticing I was entirely capable of paying my bills and YET I was still terrified about the next one. That was extremely frustrating... I just paid my bills, why am I concerned about next month if this month isn't even over??
At moments like those I noticed I had entirely forgotten to enjoy life. I forgot to enjoy every minute of what I did. Yes, paying your bills is important but making your life miserable over it is just not worth it, I kept asking myself if I wanted to live with this disgusting sensation of "need to survive" for the rest of my life. I came to the resolution that I was better off being happy with that I had in the present. Too many times I was terrified of not being able to pay my bills but I was always able to do it. I was scared of a future that never came, instead of being happy for the present I had and it was honestly the hardest thought pattern to break, but it made me feel stupid to keep it up. My family feared the same thing for so long, my parents, my relatives, my grandparents, they all had the same fear and they all taught me to fear, but there I was, a product of their success, repeating the same story... once I became aware of this, I made a conscious effort to stop. And you wouldn't believe the magic that follows with that, I encourage you to try it.
Thank you so much for reading this far into my current story! I want you to know, by the way, that it's thanks to your constant support that I'm able to be here, I owe art so much, I can only repay you with love and more arts
