Having spinal surgery

A year ago January 9th 2024 I broke my spine slipping and falling on ice in Colorado which caused me to need a lumbar surgery in March of 2024, and then move to Nebraska in April of 2024 to live in a cheaper city and state with a better support system. Mid year 2024 I ended up splitting up with my long term partner of 7 years and now I live with my roommate and her two young kids.
I have been dealing with constant pain and nerve damage, as well as needing lots of physical assistance and mobile assistance with canes and walkers. As of Friday, January 31st, I have been in the hospital under constant supervision and extreme and excruciating pain as I will now need a larger and secondary lumbar surgery on Monday Feb 10th.
I am hoping it will help ease up my pain and nerve issues, or at least maybe help the disability case I currently have had open for the past year.
Here's to hoping it all goes well.

Posted a year agoWe lost a good one today, rest easy now, the suffering is done. I can attest to how awful the American health care system is, you didn't deserve to suffer.

Health concerns - potentially cancer
Posted 2 years agoI have had some concerning health issues/symptoms for quite some time now. One of them being my white blood cell count has slowly been going up for a while. At first my doctor and I chalked it up to the asthma medication I'm on and that they can cause that to happen. But then we added it to my symptom of black/blue liquid coming from one of my breasts. It started out as not very much but now about a teaspoon comes out of it with a gentle touch. And more recently I've developed sharp stabbing pains in the same breast.
My doctor and I agreed that I should get more testing done and last Friday I was given the results.
I have 3 flags for potential cancer in my testing. Along with the symptoms I've been having, the flags, and the history of breast cancer in my family, we believe this may be what it is.
My insurance is being reluctant on allowing me to get a mammogram under their coverage since I haven't had their insurance very long stating if I have these symptoms then it is pre-existing and isn't covered by them, I'm under the age of 40, and I had a full body CT scan and chest x-rays last year that didn't show anything.
Planned Parenthood is quoting me about $140-$170 for one out of pocket which I was going to pay for after I got paid tomorrow, but life really likes to fuck me over and I've had a new development with funding (8-11-23).
I had gotten a returned check fee that put me less than $5 in the negative. I called my bank and they informed me at the start of the call that I had a negative balance of $492. 84 because ALE charged my card on file for when we stayed in the hotel. ALE solutions received the final bill from the Best Western that we were staying in when our hotel flooded. We got charged an outrageous amount of $488.59 for the amenities we used that should have been a part of the costs of us staying, and the "damages" to the room. I offered the video I took when we left the room but ALE won't accept it saying I need to send it to Best Western and work it out with them. I offered the video to corporate BW and they also have denied accepting the video saying most of the charges are just over use of the amenities the hotel offered as they are not an extended stay.

Emergency Situation - still in hotel!
Posted 2 years agoMy boyfriend an I have been in a hotel since April 27th 2023 after out apartment flooded due to a burst water pipe in the boiler room of the building. Original post here. We have been having to pay out of pocket for everything we have needed, including having to have paid for the first few initial nights for a hotel before my insurance took over.
For 2 solid months we had been in a best western with no kitchen and had to eat out for every meal. On Friday June 23rd we were informed that the entire time we were supposed to be paying a Rent Abatement, but we had been using the money for our survival (eating out every meal gets expensive and before anyone says anything, YOU try eating off the McDonald's $1, $2,$3 menu or Ramen and hotdogs for every meal for two months and see how you feel).
We haven't been paid out from my insurance for my losses from the flood and we also haven't been able to go back to our apartment.
The new current estimate for my balance due is $2,685.00 for us staying until July 11th. They made us pay the $500 deductible on the 27th of June otherwise the balance would be higher (thank you to the kind souls who donated/purchased commissions from me for that bill).
We have to pay:
$1140 for the month of May
$1140 for the month of June
$405 for the month of July until the 11th
With all of this, we still have to pay:
phone bill of $95
car and renters of $174
all of the extra gas we've had to use going back and forth to check out the unit and for how far stores are from us
we also now have to buy groceries since on the 27th we were moved into an extended stay type hotel

Emergency situation- apartment flooded
Posted 2 years agoWe were forced to leave our apartment after it flooded on Wednesday, April 26th. We were originally told we could stay in the unit, but on Thursday the 27th we were made to scramble and find some last minute motel to be able to have a place for my partner, myself, our 2 reptiles, amphibian, and the 3 cats While the apartment management had a company come out to heat the apartment to over 100°F and run dehumidifiers as well. We were upgraded by the insurance to a best Western premier but we don't have a kitchenette so we cannot cook and rely on what restaurants and fast food joints are around us to eat.
Then came May 3rd when I was called at work and told that we had to pack all of our things and be out of the unit fully by may 4th. We had to pay out of pocket for a bunch if packing things like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and totes for our apartments to put our things in a portable storage container for 30 days. I had to take off work on May 3rd and roll over into May 4th and 5th while I try to explain and argue to my Adjuster what's going on with the unit since he wanted to originally do a tour of the unit and see all the damages. Since he was off on Wednesday May 3rd, we couldn't do a tour before being forced out of the unit. I took as many videos and pictures as possible but he has been adamant on doing a tour which will only delay how long it takes us to get our pay back.
Our renters insurance is covering some things for us and we will get payouts from it, but our Adjuster said that could be weeks if not over a month away or longer with the new changes of the whole bottom floor of the building, and we need the money asap. We had to throw out several hundred dollars of food thay we had just bought before this happened because we've been out of the unit for a week and things went bad. We also have to do laundry in the hotel which is way more expensive than our apartments were.
My Adjuster said he would work on getting us more long term housing with a kitchen so we do not need to keep buying fast food, but the available housing market in Denver and Aurora is pretty scarce and he said it could potentially be difficult and take a while to acquire it.
While in the long run we will be able to work things out, in the short term we are a sinking ship unable to stay afloat with my income, especially with having to miss work.
We are asking for any assistance and donations folks can offer at this time. Spreading the word is greatly appreciated, even if you can't donate potentially getting the word out to someone who can help does help us.

Ivic, our wonderful moderator from South Afrifur, was diagnosed with brain cancer in late 2020. Thanks to your support we were able to pay for his treatment and medication last year, but Ivic lost his fight against cancer on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 19:19 (GMT+2). Ivic and his family need your help again: the funeral costs are not covered by his insurance, so we are collecting money to cover most of the costs. The cremation alone costs about 20.000ZAR (1194,74 Euro). If donations exceed the amount of the funeral, we will transfer the excess amount to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

In spite of the interruption, the community continues to grow!"
