Moving Forward Together

Please support a local artist or really any artist, times are tough. I'm working with a local privately owned art gallery to try and create a cooperative existence between them and our taproom to attract more business. I hope we all come together and see each other on the other side.
Lifestyle:
Change can be difficult, it can be scary not knowing what comes tomorrow and I think any honest person that's come to terms with that would tell you the same. But in my experience some of the greatest personal growth I've experienced has come from these times of adversity. If something scares me, it becomes even more important that I go boldly because somewhere beyond that change and the challenges that come with it is something great. A better version of myself that has learned and grown in a way not possible without that change. Take this time to keep challenging yourself, I'll see you on the otherside of this pandemic.

So I made a big step in a direction I never realized I needed to break out into. I wrote my final essay in ENG 102 on the benefits of being a member of a subculture: the furry fandom. There was a surprise presentation we had to give the last day for a significant grade - shit. I had never mixed the fandom outside of my friends and conventions. Standing in front of the class and admitting I was someone that I had been hiding from *nofurs my entire life? They knew I had been a barista, that I was a an outdoors-man, that I was a fireman and chased the carnage in the flames when others would turn away. . .and now I would tell them I was an arctic fox? I was absolutely terrified.
But I stood in front of the class and told them all about the colorful fursuits, the ears and tails, the diversity of the arts and culture, and mostly of the amazing people I've met in the fandom and they smiled. I didn't combust, they didn't burn me at the steak and I maintained (at least most of) my pride - and gained something too. I don't remember the last time I was scared to do something social before. I am very much so a fearless socialite and it surprised me to feel that way and see myself in that light. I think I could do it again much easier now that I'm aware I had so much anxiety built up around coming out as a furry.
It's important to view things from every perspective if we want to grow to our fullest. <3
*nofurs: non-furry (harry potter can do it why can't I)?

Posted 11 years agoThanks! to friends for a great year, to everyone who pushed me further than i might have pushed myself, and to those who have been right here with me the entire way. I'm stepping down from the mountain of coffee I've been climbing, and moving forward to greater things. Saving espresso shots -> Saving Lives and I couldn't be any more excited, nervous, and proud. Im still only a part of the way to my main goal of Fire Fighting, but one of the most important steps starts here as an Emergency Medical Technician: Field Experience along side the Seattle FD. It was a year ago I decided where i would be today, and as I move forward I only hope the journey this time around will be as enjoyable, inspirational, and successful. <3
