Update
Posted 10 months agoBeen a while since I've been in here. Dragoneer's passing was most unfortunate as most are. It's why folks like Luigi took a stand. Dragoneer would still be here if insurance had helped him instead of putting him in the ground. It has helped reckick putting the Memorial Center back together on Second Life. Will probably put it back on Zeta Valley.
Aaand here we go again! LUA #14!

A Sensative Topic I'd like to discuss...
Posted 5 years agoStarting in 2017 with the passing of my great friend Foxkin Impfondo, I created a memorial for those in the fandom that have passed in OsGrid OpenSim(set up on Dragon Valley for those that visit there). That said, I've been trying to stay on top of those in the fandom that have passed so I can add them to the memorial as I'm pretty sure WikiFUR doesn't have everyone listed. If anyone knows of anyone in the fandom that has passed, please comment their name/dob/dod/cause i'd appreciate it. I'll post pictures of the memorial sometime today.
Thanks folks, Logan
Thanks folks, Logan
Moving
Posted 5 years agoNo, I'm not moving in real life(not yet anyhow), but my webcomic LUA(Logan's Untitled Adventures) will be moving to once a month instead of once a week until I can get patterns down(trust me, I'd love to release these once a week). What will this mean? This means that on the first of every month there will be a complete episode of at least 20 pages. I originally wanted LUA to be set up as one adventure per episode no matter how many pages that took to play out. The episode that will be released on 4/1/2020 will be #15: Yoron. I won't spoil it but will say the episode will not sum up Yoron, but open a door to more adventures. It should be interesting to see what my mind comes up in terms of adventures :D At some point I'll also be redoing the earlier pages so they make more sense, and those will be released whenever. I'll also be shutting down the Instagram account for LUA as no one seemed to take an interest in it. If I could somehow make Patreon and Facebook work for the FNR Comic Co, that'd be awesome. In the meantime, updates will remain on here and DeviantArt plus Facebook, but I'm iffy on Twitter.
That said, that'll be the last change I make to LUA as I want to tell a consistent story, instead of rubber-banding everyone.
I appreciate everyone who's allowed me to post their comic to LINE/WebToon and there's always room for more.
Talk to everyone then,
Matt

FNR Comic Co.
Posted 5 years agoGreets folks, you've heard me speak about this on and off and I'm here to speak about it some more.
Right around the time, I moved to LINE/WebToons I started the FNR Comic Co. The goal is for everyone in the fandom(Fur/Neko/Otherkin) to have a place to put their webcomic where it can be seen. LINE/WebToons has going for it their website and a mobile app for Android/IOS. Both of these are used by visitors from around the world and only makes that much more sense to put your comic on there, instead of say, here or Patreon or another webcomic host. I had the first episode of LUA up and had 20 views even before I started advertising that I'd moved my comic. This is the real deal I think(Those that know me know I wouldn't put 110% into something if I didn't feel it was).
That said, I know some artists have their comics on LINE/WebToons already and that's cool. This call-out is for those who either aren't on there already or are willing to consolidate their comic into the FNRCC. That's not to say FNRCC owns your comic, you own your comic: it's yours. FNRCC is just a vessel. With that said, I know one of the things the crosses folks' minds when they read this is what I get out of it. I don't make any money off this, so what then, right? Well - Recognition and a solid place for fandom comics to grow are my top two. I don't want to see sites like Gene Catlow go out because of financial constraints(yes Al passed away but those running the site did just let it go). Thinking about it now, I guess if you were going to put a financial mark on it, it'd be this: IF your comic becomes featured, you'd get a monthly stipend. I would probably take a small percentage of that but that's about it. LINE/WebToons decides who's comic gets featured and who's doesn't. I don't have a say and neither do the artists. The monthly stipend for a featured comic is $2,000usd. I'd take 5% of that, but that part of LINE/WebToons is a potential bonus that's there if it's there, but not if it's not, and detracts from the main goal which is to provide a publishing house for comics.
If I've scared anyone off, oops. If I have your attention, note me and we'll talk.

The Future of LUA
Posted 5 years agoSo thinking about things and chatting with some folks, I've come to realize that I'm too derpy to coherently self-create a webcomic(Derpy still has nothing on me :P). That said, I've asked a writer friend of mine to write a 20-page treatment and go from there. If all goes well, LUA will move to once a month instead of once a week however episodes will be 20 pages instead of the 3-5 I've been spurting out. Just think: there actually might be a story in there somewhere :P

Thoughts for 2/29/2020
Posted 5 years agoLUA #14 will be published on LINE/WebToons here on Monday and thought I'd share some thoughts. I apologize in advance if I lose anyone, raw thought tends to do that I think.
Moving forward, I'm currently sitting at 3 subs and 615 views with 0 faves. I think the slice-of-life type of comics is becoming saturated as a whole but I don't know of any other type of story to tell. When I started the sketch test, that was supposed to be drama but in the end, turned to sarcastic comedy. It's been suggested to me by some folks that to remain consistent I should hire a writer, which would be fine if I could find one that's off-the-cuff as me but not wanting to oversexualize everything. I'm also trying to get LUA into an episodic format, meaning when I draw it up, the page count and content make an episode instead of a run-on(which even with #14, you'll see what I mean). I seemed to have no issue with it when I was doing the sketch comic but struggle with it still 76 pages into the colored comic. It shouldn't affect me as much as it does and not sure why, I see other comics on LINE/WebToons follow a similar structure without issue.
I am proud though that I've been able to center a holiday into the comic, instead of doing a page specific for said holiday. I struggle with wither I would do Japanese holidays, American holidays, or both since the comic takes place in Japan but I'm American. Something else I've been struggling with is wither or not the Japanese should be written in Kanji or spelled out. I know when you speak to a Japanese person they obviously don't talk in Kanji, but this is a comic that gives a visual representation.
In a way, I think I've set myself up to fail with LUA. I've set the bar high of what I want to pour into the comic, and the end results have become mediocre(step up from poor with the first run before I got to Wacom), which I blame myself for. I wanted to create a comic that had involved Furs and the only way I saw that was for Logan and Sara to have been transformed, instead of being that right away. I also wanted the comic to be based in Japan where that sort of thing is considered normal and share the sites. Again, the results feel very mediocre. In part by my lack of style, but also in part from doing everything off-the-cuff. I mean the situation involving Mobius giving Logan a drink that gave him boobs was thought up in the shower because I was having writer's block. I do feel a do-over is coming, just not sure at what point and to what degree. I'm trying to straighten out the story so I don't have to, and may lead to changing the upload schedule to once a month instead of once a week(which I wouldn't have a problem with).
So many thoughts it makes your head implode :D

Moving Forward
Posted 5 years agoMoving forward, Logan Sara and Jake are about to take a trip to Yoron at the university's expense so more than likely another 'experiment' or two. Other than knowing I want Logan, Sara, and Jake there plus Arielle the live streamer and our pair of equines, I'd like to open the floor to anyone who wants to toss their OCs into the mix for either background(non-interacting) or foreground(interacting) characters. I'm not heavy on price so anything more then a buck to paypal works. Non-interacting characters will most likely be tourists in Yoron, passengers on the plane, etc.. while foreground characters will be shop owners, another rep from the university, etc...
I won't begin working on this until Thursday or Friday so there's a day or two to think it over. If no one wants to toss an OC in here that's fine, just means most will be background while I conjure up a rep for the university.
Stay Frosty,
Matt

Project Concluded
Posted 5 years agoSo I started an experiment this past week to see if folks would've rather stomached my rought sketchs of LUA, or enjoyed reading my refined color and folks prefered the color(when you're attempting to drive traffic to one comic and they go to the other, then ya know). I've taken the rough sketches down as their no longer needed and will upload them on here and DA.
Thanks everyone,
Matt

We're Back in the Car Again
Posted 5 years agoBut at least we're out of the tree. It's nice to have FA back, it really is ^_^
Thinking back on some things I think it would be best to consider whatever incarnation of FurNation I come up with as an artist archive(yes, even I started to miss the point - thanks for keeping me grounded Jenn ^_^). No more, no less. I'd like to think of it as the Wayback Machine but for art and the fandom, and less intrusive. That said I'll be pulling my comic art back over here and see what happens. I won't say it because i'm not one, but I make mistakes.
Let's see what else 2020 can throw at us :D

FNR Comic Co.
Posted 6 years agoSo this has come to pass. I've opened up a comic co. for those in the fandom that mak comics/webcomics. I've partnered with LINE WebToon to make this happen, and before anyone asks, yes folks do visit as it's different then what's on the site currently. This is more for exposure and truncating everyone into one place(no one makes any money on it either, that's what patreon and such sites are for). I would be handling everything from getting the pages up to making sure folks view them, and making sure everything is compliant with LINE WebToon's rules and regulations. If anyone wishes to have their comic listed that I haven't contacted about yet, note me.
I feel this and FNR will be my two biggest contributions to the fandom and will pay off for everyone in the long run.
Thanks,
Logan ^_^

From this Day Forward...
Posted 6 years agoHappy Newd Deer - I think this is going to be a good meme for the fandom but anywhoz. I'll be removing my files off here as this account will now be used to follow artists in the fandom and be used as a recruitment portal for my resurrection project: FurNation Reborn. I know FurNation has a lot of baggage that comes with it(I've heard my share of horror stories) and I'm in a position where I can fix or mostly fix these issues. The first one I heard was there was too much staff and they ruled with an iron first. I wasn't able to find any recorded instances, however, to simplify: staff will be myself and my friend. We've both been in the fandom since it's early conceptions and heck, we're even the same age :D
Another thing I'd heard was that throughout its history, FurNation's servers were really unstable. Again I wasn't able to find anything concrete. It is very possible that the servers back then just weren't able to handle the amount of web traffic or security needed to keep an art site going - even today most web hosts are for light traffic for personal websites. For this reason, another friend of mine has generously donated a VPS to use for this. I've been assured that this VPS takes up an entire slot in a data center in Sydney and the specs for the server itself are a single CPU Intel Xeon six-core with 128gb of ram, gigabit net, and unlimited webspace. I've also been told the center in Sydney has the ability to withstand a 5pf(petaflop) DDOS and still keep going with redundancies. On top of that, since the domain goes off to the VPS and isn't tied to anything, I can reroute the domain or give artists other ways to get to their files. I personally have been networking servers since I was like 10 so I know my stuff ^_^
Another thing I'd heard was about file limitations and censorship, and I have seen this on certain artist's sites in the archive. File limitations are non-existent as far as storage goes, however, the upload forms are set to allow a good amount of HTML and Image data through. This isn't YouTube so I don't expect to see anyone trying to upload video, but audio is allowable. As far as censorship goes, as long as there's no kiddie porn, it's fair game. Art is art and it comes in several flavors. Some appeal to some while some don't - that's just the nature of the game. If I recall correctly, most sites in the archive are NSFW and that's perfectly fine since it's clearly labeled. Something else that was pointed out was that some used their webspace for art and poetry/stories and that's fine, no limitations on poetry/stories/fanfiction/etc..
The last major thing I'd heard about was art theft. I don't think it was a major issue for FurNation until after it came back when it want down in 2009 - because that was around the time folks on DA were complaining about it(and still complain about it). To address this, I have code in place that disables right-click(no, it's not javascript). Images are put into CSS pop-ups on the page(so they don't open a new window) and they're watermarked.
Yes, yes, I know, I talk a good game. It's all talk or speech or whatever so the only way I can prove what's what is to point furs to the site, have em sign up, show them how to protect their images, and go off from there. The site is free, will always be free. No ad-banners either. I might toss a link somewhere on the main page to donate to but it's not necessary or receive special treatment. Under no circumstances will the site try to change to keep up with the times. 90% of the social media bs that was bestowed on FN has been passed off to Discord where it belongs(or back then it would've been IRC, but no one uses IRC or forums or any of that stuff anymore).
I started work on reviving FurNation back in August of 2019, working in tandem with my webcomic or whatever else goes on around here and there's still a lot of archived pages to go through. I'm posting this now because the site's mainly done and open to registrants - the links on the front page work, the login for the sites work, and the registration form works. The archived pages I'm going through are secondary really. I wish some of these artists would come back but that's a modern miracle not even this fox can perform. If there are any qualms about issues while FN was up and going that could be a deal breaker for you, please PM me so private matters stay private. I'll leave comments up for discussions.

New Page is Up!
Posted 6 years agoPostyBirb
Posted 6 years agoSo I was searching how to setup webhooks so that I could post these from discord but then a thing popped up saying I could do it with PostyBirb, so here I am using it :D
It doesn't post to Furzu yet(I did note them about it) but it does take care of DA, FA, Patreon, and Twitter so I'm happy. Monday's comic post will be dark since it'll be for New Years and be a reflection from me personally. I am looking forward to 2020 however in terms of keeping my webcomic going. Ok so before I trail off, that's that.

A tale of two Tablets
Posted 6 years agoMorning everyone, how're we doing? As many know my birthday was on the 14th but what no one knew was that I'd received a Wacom Inteos tablet. What does this mean? This means update time! I'm going back and redoing my comic's pages to reflect the new style and use of the tablet. the comic will be presented in b&w with the option of purchasing a pdf of the comic in chapter format in color for $1. This also means I'm going to be removing the old pages from here and DA, and replace them with the new b&w pages.
Thanks to everyone that's followed me thus far, i've really appreciated it,
Matt

Not sure, but here ya go...
Posted 6 years ago For those that know me(and some that don't) I started drawing again as a means to an end. The means being something to fill a void in my life and end being the depression/fallout from divorce. Neither one of us regretted our decisions and even today we're better friends then lovers(rare among ex's). Since the scrapping market's in the toilet and getting an actual job would send me back to CPEP, I started drawing on a whim. I wanted to see if I still had it - any of it. While I'm content for the time being that I can still draw, I struggle because it's not where i want it. Don't tax me just yet - I know when it comes to art practice makes perfect, because your hands are muscles and become tools to accomplish something. Memory falls into play with this also. I saw vast improvements when I started doing Inktober because I was literally traditionally pulling ideas out of thin air, sketching them, then inking them(something I'd never done before) but then see myself struggle with perception when it comes to taking characters to make a web comic.
This of course all leads to my next point. I just posted LUA #16 wich will be the last page for a bit while I move. My father's almost 80 and his health is starting to go, so I'm moving back home to help take care of things. I also see this as an opportunity to work on my art full time(well, full time minus what I do for Jenn) so that I might be able to get it where I want it. It'll also help me experiment with commissions to see if that's something I can handle and at some point I'll get ref sheets up.
If any of this is confusing I apologize, their my thoughts for the moment and while their perfectly fine in my head, when they translate to text they tend to be a jumbled mess.

Don't be Alarmed, no need to adjust your computer screen...
Posted 6 years agoIn wanting to connect with those in the fandom no matter what they are or what their into or where in the world they are, I've started following folks on here DeviantArt and Twitter since that's where I'm at the most. I find what others are going through more interesting then my own life since the biggest thing I have going for me is a move to AZ next month and my webcomic. If you're active on these 3 platforms great, if not or don't want to follow back I take no offence.
Stay frosty,

Thoughts on everything
Posted 6 years agoI thought creating a FA would be different but when I think about it, I really don't have much of a use for it since LUA gets more attention on Comic Fury then both here and DA put together. That said, i'll keep it going until it doesn't become relevant anymore. Yay trend follower.
FurRing Revival
Posted 6 years agoFor those that remember FurRing from back in the day, I've revived this project. https://furring.netlify.com With the rise of Google many sites in the fandom face the same thing now as they did then: exposure. I'm going to try and reach out to some of the sites that were on the original ring and see if they'd like to rejoin. If anyone else is interested, fill out the form on the site.
The Fox is out of the bag
Posted 6 years agofolks over on DA know more about it then overe but if anyone's guessed by now, I've lent my webmastering talents to
Panda-Jenn and her comic Simply Panda Jenn(wich I'm glad has returned). On the heels of that, I've also started posting LUA to Comic Fury since even before the news was broke that the comic was back up people were visiting and reading what's been posted and to a degree that's trickeled over to LUA which is nice to see.

Helping Hands
Posted 6 years agoI've been spending alot of my time lately helping my friend
Panda-Jenn get back on her feet, which in turn has kept me motivated to keep LUA going. Jesonite from DA was having a live session with some art friends on picarto this past week also and they were already well deep into conversation before I got there, but one of the points Jeso made was keep going - keep drawing - skill, technique, and style will follow - so I threw my update schedule out the window. I could've stuck to one but I enjoy drawing and want to share LUA with everyone so I was slipping back into an update pattern I had for YouTube wich was do all the work ahead of time and set it to upload when it's supose to, wich was a schedule I really didn't want to get back into. I do see my art improving (at least from sketching point of view) so even if I'm refrencing material based on what I've sketched, it's slowly coming full circle so I know how to draw that stuff without needing to refrence anything.
Funny story, every now and then my mouse gets clogged up with dirt(especially around the mouse wheel), oils from my fingers, etc.. and this last time when I took it apart the mouse wheel literaly disentegrated on me. I say it's a funny story since I mouse-and-keyboard everything from lack of a tablet. Before I took the mouse apart I was having trouble with shading because the mouse would shoot off the screen from lack of feet. After taking it apart and replacing it with a mouse that has feet, my problem with shading hasn't changed any really so that will be an area I'll be working on also. I'm not sure if having a tablet would do anything however I'm always open minded so if one landed in my lap I'd use it(or try to use it).
I appreciate everyone that's stopped by to look at what i'm trying to do,
Logan

Welcome Party
Posted 6 years agoWelp here I am, testing the waters on FA to see how it is over DA(there are benefits right? since DA is for everything and FA is for the fandom). Anyhow I'll be using both actively so we'll see how it all goes ^_^
May the Fur be with us all,
