Changing over to a new profile
Posted 7 years agoHi!
So, I decided to finally log back into this account after, oh, nearly six years? I was delighted to find that people are still favouriting some of my art, despite the inactivity.
Anyways, I'm here right now to let those of you who've enjoyed my work know that I'm returning to FA, but doing so with a new account. This old one served me very well, but it is no longer representative of who I am (it's named after an OC in my comic who may have been my fursona once but hasn't been now for many years, after all).
I'll be putting up my art on the new account very soon, so if you do see some art that looks familiar under the username BethanyTurner, don't come here to report an art thief, please. It's just me on my new account.
Anyways, thanks for the faves, the comments, and all that. I hope to see you over at my new account: https://www.furaffinity.net/user/bethanyturner/

Eon's World - It's Aliiiiive!!!
Posted 12 years agoSo, after over two years without continuing the story, Eon's World (formerly known as Eon's Comic) is finally returning!
I have not been idle in my comic's long hiatus. I have used the time to improve my drawing skills somewhat, as well as work on a great number of 3D models for use in the comic (mostly ships, but there are some other things), and a handful of scripts. I kept telling myself that I needed more time for prep, but, frankly, there's always going to be prep work I could be doing, so it was time to knuckle down and get to work on the comic itself. After all, one way to improve my art is to actually work on the comic, right?
Anyway, I have done a draft of the first chapter, which you can begin reading here, if you fancy a preview: [link] If not, then the final (much nicer looking) version will start becoming available for view within the month. I've not yet decided whether the comic will be hosted on the original website or exclusively here on deviantART, but it will most certainly be available for view in its entirety here, if nowhere else (it may also go up on FurAffinity).
If you can't read my handwriting, I apologise. The final version will use a legible font. :p
UPDATE: The first chapter is taking longer than I expected, but I'm nearly through now. I'll announce it when the first page goes up. :)

What is it with all the bums...? o.ó
Posted 15 years agoSo I log into Fur Affinity, as I do most days, to check up on submissions by the folks on my watch list, and I find a string of practically identical icon-sized pictures of bums... For sale, apparently.
Really? People are selling pictures of bums? Pictures that are identical, except for the colour scheme? And people are actually paying for these? Okay, it's not much and I appreciate that we're still in a recession, but really? Bum icons for sale? Bum icons that probably take no more than twenty minutes to recolour?
I first noticed these relatively cheap themed commissions a couple of months ago, and it didn't seem like such a bad idea. For instance, "I will draw your character in chibi style in a box". That's not so bad, because most of those pictures were still pretty different from one another. But this new bums thing that several artists seem to have jumped on really does seem, to me at least, to be taking the piss; "I've drawn line art of a bum and I'll recolour it to match any character of your choice for the low, low price of $3.50." I mean, really?
That said, perhaps it's a stroke of genius and the people who've jumped on the bums bandwagon are making a small fortune doing nothing more difficult than simply recolouring an existing piece of art. In which case, maybe I should jump on too...

Valentines Day - since everyone else is having their say
Posted 15 years agoSomething has been bugging me recently.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that today is Valentines Day, that one day of the year in which card manufacturers and confectioners would like us to show our appreciation for our mates by buying their products as gifts for them. Personally, I think that, if you love someone, you should make an effort to show that you appreciate them as often as you can. It doesn't have to be anything big, little things will do, so long as you do them. The occasional big romantic occasion is always nice, but why save it for this one day of the year that's been arbitrarily chosen by corporations? It seems awfully artificial to me, and one must wonder whether a romantic act done on Valentines Day was done for the sake of love or for the sake of the day. I know which one I'd prefer.
But that's not what's been bugging me this time. No, this time it's the jaded, cynical, mob of single folk out there who, if you're fortunate enough to have found love, will do their damnedest to make sure you feel guilty about it today. I've lost count of how many journal entries I've seen over the week written by people who are feeling bitter over the fact that they don't currently have a mate to share today with, and it's really starting to irritate me.
If you're one of these people then, believe it or not, I understand how you feel; but we're not trying to make you feel miserable today, so stop trying to bring us down on a day that some of us would like to enjoy. Stop dwelling on the matter and you might start feeling a little less miserable.
In short, if you're pissed off because it's Valentines Day and you're currently single, you have my sympathy, but get over it.

Questionairre meme... 3, I think?
Posted 16 years agoAnother questionnaire from Ulario Gryphon's journal. Eighty questions this time! :p
1. What does your FurAffinity name mean and why?
LordEon? Well, Eon Squirrel is both my fursona and one of the lead characters in my webcomic. At some point in the comic's story (back in 2003, I think) Eon received the title "Lord", officially when he was betrothed to a Princess, but unofficially because I had retconned the character to be more cat than squirrel, with some fox thrown in, and the surname "Squirrel" was confusing, despite still being the character's official surname. I used "Lord Eon" instead of "Eon Squirrel" on online communities I joined after that time if just "Eon" was unavailable.
I'm a lot less hung up about the whole "Squirrel" surname these days, but for a while, even in my comic, I avoided referring to the character using that name in case someone incorrectly assumed that because he's called "Squirrel", that must be the species he belongs to.
2. What fandom were you obsessed with when you joined and what are you into now?
I found out about this place through 2 Sense, which was a furry podcast, and I wanted a place to showcase my art to a furry audience, so I guess that would make it the furry fandom.
3. How many watchers do you have now?
29. A paltry sum, I know, but I appreciate them all. I hope to gain more.
4. Name 3 of your favorite artists on FA.
MissMab, MocHi, and skippywallaby.
5. Do you comment, fav, or both?
I comment more often than I used to. I feel that if I like a piece of art enough, the least I can do is say so. I do fave art occasionally, but it has to be something I really like for that.
6. Do you participate in clubs' contests here on FA?
I don't.
7. What is your most popular submission?
In terms of sheer views, 'The Beauty of Nature' is the most popular. I wonder if it has anything to do with the naked fox girl in it?
In terms of favourites, 'The Beauty of Nature' above shares the top spot with my most recent drawing 'Dawn Blackpaw' and 'Trippie'.
In terms of the number of comments, 'Darryl Fennec, Capt.' and 'Eon & Katsuni' share the most popular spot.
8. What are your favorite non-anime TV shows?
This question almost seems to assume that my favourite TV shows would be animé. I think my favourite TV series at the moment is Doctor Who, followed by Babylon 5 and The West Wing.
9. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
Backgrounds, scenery, and machines. However, the issue may soon be resolved for artificial scenery (cities, inside of buildings, etc.) and machines, since I've started using Google SketchUp to help with those.
10. Summer or winter?
Summer is miserably hot and I have hayfever. Winter is cold and dark. Can't I pick spring?
I love spring, with the new leaves just coming out, the blossom on the trees, daisies in the grass, birds singing, animals fucking. The last four springs I spent at the University of Stirling and it was always nice to see the baby animals appearing all over the sprawling university campus.
11. Rain or Sun?
Sun, so long as it's not too hot. I welcome torrential rain and thunderstorms in the height of summer, however.
12. What's your favorite type of music?
I don't have a favourite type. I have music I like and music I don't like. The type is largely irrelevant.
13. PC or Mac?
PC, but only because I've grown up with one. I respect Mac's for their movie and sound editing capabilities, but I don't have any interest in having one for personal use.
14. Anime or Manga?
Either will do. Both are just likely to be terrible with the occasional possibility of yielding something good.
15. Coke or Pepsi?
Coke. I don't despise Pepsi and I'll take it if it's the only stuff available (or it's cheaper and I'm feeling tight), but I prefer Coke.
16. Read or TV?
I'm going to say read. I don't watch much TV and the TV I do watch tends to be series on DVD boxsets, not TV as it's broadcast. The only real exceptions are Doctor Who and the occasional late night episode of Family Guy on BBC3.
However, I almost always have a book I'm reading.
17. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
I'm on an off periodically while I'm on the computer, which means all day, pretty much, right now. But I couldn't quantify the exact number of hours I spend here each day. It varies.
18. Name a hidden talent.
I'm rather talented with my voice. I can't sing well, but I can do a range of voices and impressions that I'm told can be rather convincing. I don't know if I have what it would take to be a voice actor, but that would be awesome if I did.
19. Flash or traditional cartoons?
Ninety-nine percent of both are crap. Occasionally you'll find something impressive from either camp, however. Bit of an Apples and Oranges comparison really though, since flash movies tend to be geared exclusively towards humour, whereas traditional animation covers a much broader range. A better comparison would have been traditional animation or CGI.
20. What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
Does Pizza the Hutt count as Fast Food? If not, I guess I'll say McDonald's.
21. What are your top 3 favorite books?
'The Lord of the Rings', 'Watership Down', and... I'm afraid I can't name a specific third.
22. Wii or Playstation?
False dichotomy. There is a third and even a fourth possible answer here: Xbox 360 and PC. Personally, I use the Xbox 360, but out of the choices offered, I'd going with Playstation. The Wii is a good party console, but it's not much fun for single player gaming.
23. Name 3 of your favorite bands/singers.
Tarja Turunen, Queen, and once more I fail to name a third one. To be fair, very few bands or artists can impress me enough with more than one or two songs for me to give them an abnormally large amount of attention.
24. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typist?
I've been tested and, apparently, my rate is above average. And I type one-handed, typically with one or two fingers, unless I have need of the shift key.
25. Do you like Denny's?
We don't have Denny's in Britain, but I know enough about them to avoid them like the plague when I get around to visiting the United States.
26. What is your favorite smiley?
By sheer usage, :3
27. What is your favorite type of pie?
Steak and kidney pie, the way my mother cooks it and the way my grandmother cooked it before her. I really ought to learn how to cook it myself some day.
28. Have you ever stayed up for 24 hours?
Yes, quite a few times, actually. The first was in 2006 during my last week at Stirling at the end of first year after my exams were over and I had a whole week where I was absolutely free to do as I pleased.
The next couple of times were during Star Trek Nights with a couple of friends during the seven-to-eight week winter vacation in 2007 and 2008. Essentially, these nights were an attempt to watch all ten Star Trek movies in succession.
Unfortunately, the first attempt in 2007 was sabotaged when my friend decided to start the attempt by showing me about half of season 4 of Enterprise before we got onto Star Trek: The Motion Picture. He was sound asleep by the time we reached Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and, no, not because it's arguably the worst of the TOS era movies (though it's got stiff competition from the long, boring, extremely dated special effects showcase that is Star Trek: The Motion Picture). The second attempt in 2008 was a success, however, with all ten movies watched in around about 22 hours.
Last winter, the epic DVD Night wasn't nearly as epic, since we just watched the first four Rocky movies. I was up for Rocky V and Rocky Balboa, but my two friends were weren't. Light weights. :p
29. Do you go on YouTube a lot?
I don't make a habit of it, no. But I find myself there an awful lot because of friends spamming my IM's with YouTube links.
30. Are you a member on any other sites besides FA?
If "sites" extends to internet forums, then yes, many. If it's just sites like this the only a few. I'm an active member on very few sites, however.
31. Do you cosplay?
No. I've only ever dressed up once and that was for a fancy dress party. I went as a Parisian, because it required almost no effort.
32. Fruits or sweets?
Sweets, easily.
33. Buttered, plain, or salted popcorn?
Buttered, I suppose. I prefer it with sugar or toffee, mind you.
34. Have you skipped school?
Not in any sense that "skipped" might conceivably mean, no.
35. Have you been on a plane?
Yes! I love flying! Take offs are awesome. :3
36. Have you swam in an ocean?
Only the Atlantic Ocean. I've swam in the Mediterranean, but that is technically and inlet of the Atlantic and it's a sea anyway.
37. Have you been ice skating?
No. I've worn ice skates and I've been on a ice rink, but I've never approached what anyone could call "ice skating". Plenty of slipping over uncontrollably though.
38. Favorite vacation spot?
Cornwall is nice.
39. Ever been on TV?
Not that I know of.
40. Favorite salad and dressing?
Eww.
41. What do you do to relax?
I do my (sprite) comic, I draw, I play videogames, I read, I watch movies, I sleep.
42. What is the last film you saw in the theater?
Sherlock Holmes. It was freakin' awesome. :3
43. Favorite Sandwich?
The open steak sandwich, the way it's served at a nice little pseudo Tex-Mex resturant in Stirling called Longhorn's. It's a toasted baguette sliced in half and spread with mayonnaise with strips of grilled steak and onions on top, served with fries and salad. It is my absolute favourite lunchtime dish at any restaurant, to say nothing of my favourite sandwich. And I'm going to have one (or two, maybe three) next week! It's making me hungry just thinking about it... >.>
44. If you could go anywhere in the world...
Canada and New Zealand.
45. Favorite time of the day?
Dawn. At university, when I was free to do so, I'd sometimes stay up late enough for it to start getting light outside and go for a walk to watch the sun rise. I liked that time of day (in early summer, particularly), because it was a quiet time of the day before many other people were up and about. I could take myself for a walk around the university campus in peace without meeting anyone. It was a good time to think and get some fresh morning air while it was still relatively cool.
46. What did you want to be when you were little?
For a long time, a comic book artist. Well, in some respects, I got my wish. I do make a comic, it just isn't hand drawn... yet. I hope to remedy that, however, by improving my art, so my childhood dream may yet come true. But it will never be something I make a living off.
47. What do you want to be now?
I'd like to become a philosophy lecturer, if at all possible.
48. If you could eat with one person, who would it be?
Right now? My mate. <3
49. What character would you hate to be stuck in a room with?
Mudflap and Skids from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. You know, those grotesque Autobot cars who probably don't have a single IQ point between them and have got way too much screen time in a movie that's already horrendous enough without them?
50. When is your birthday?
April 16.
51. Favorite type of ice cream?
Mint chocolate chip, typically. It's a holiday favourite of mine, especially if I'm in Cornwall. However, I've also developed a deep fondness for Mackie's of Scotland's vanilla flavour.
52. Last book you read?
'The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution', by Richard Dawkins. A truly fascinating read.
53. Which store would you max out a credit card at?
Forbidden Planet.
54. Do you buy / sell / both on eBay?
I bought a couple of items on eBay, but that was a long time ago now.
55. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
I'm not sure I can think of any one question that really annoys me enough to stand out.
56. Favorite all time movie?
The Lord of the Rings. The complete trilogy, all 10 hours and 48 minutes of it (I haven't watched any of the theatrical versions since I got the three extended editions). Not only is a visual masterpiece with a stellar cast who truly bring the characters to life, but no other movie can move me on an emotional level in quite the same way this trilogy does, particularly in The Return of the King. No, it isn't perfect and I do have my complaints, but I think Peter Jackson and his team did the best job anyone could have done of adapting a book like 'The Lord of the Rings' for the big screen.
A close second is Star Wars. No, not the original trilogy. All of it. The complete six-movie saga. I don't much care what you Lucas bashers think. I love it. Sure, it has its flaws, but they don't ruin the experience for me.
57. What was your favorite show when you were a kid?
The Transformers.
58. What are you listening to right now?
The quiet hum of my computer and the clatter of my fingers on the keyboard.
59. What is the last thing you ate?
Meatballs.
60. If you were a crayon what color would you be?
Blue.
61. What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Their face... most probably the eyes.
62. Favorite sport to play?
Pool. It's the only sport I ever kick any arse at.
63. Favorite Day of the Year?
I really like Christmas Day. But I don't think I could name a favourite day of the year per se.
64. Hugs or Kisses?
I enjoy both, but I think I like hugging more.
65. Vanilla or Chocolate?
Depends on the ice cream.
66. Favorite Board Game?
I haven't played a boardgame in years, but I guess I'll go with Monopoly.
67. Favorite smells?
The smell of rain in the spring... and the smell of my mate.
68. What inspires you?
Too many things to list. I draw inspiration from everywhere.
69. Do you have any piercings?
No.
70. How many siblings do you have?
I have one older sister.
71. Bacon Bits or croutons?
Can I have both?
72. Favorite Day of the Week?
I don't know that I have one at present. But at university, I loved Wednesdays because Wednesday was the day my mate and I always went out to have lunch together. And Saturday nights were good too, because that was when she and I would watch DVD's and cuddle at my place. And Monday was awesome because me and several of my friends, plus my mate if she could make it, would all go and have a great time at the Bad Boy Pub Quiz at the Med just off the campus. We didn't always win--thoughwe never did worse than third or fourth place-- but it didn't matter. It was fun.
73. Favorite phrase?
"Sexy awesome".
74. Favorite Restaurant?
Already answered that one. Longhorn's in Stirling. Excellent food, excellent prices, and very friendly staff. What more could a student want?
75. Favorite animal?
I love dogs. I can't see a dog without smiling. I've grown up with them, so they make me happy.
76. Favorite thing to do outside?
I like nothing more than to find a high place and just admire the view. If I have my camera handy, I like to capture the moment on film... well, digital card..
77. Favorite thing to do when it's raining?
Not be outside.
78. Favorite Disney character?
I don't think I have one.
79. Do you like coffee?
Mocha is nice, but coffee isn't something I drink often.
80. Tag 3 people
No. I'm sure if anyone wants to do this meme too, they will.

Valentines Meme, Eon Edition!
Posted 16 years agoSo, I took a look at MocHi's journal and decided to play the game myself.
1. Are you single or taken?
Taken.
2. Chocolate or flowers?
Neither is permanent, but chocolates taste better than flowers.
3. Will you do anything special for Valentines Day?
No. I'll not be seeing my mate until after Valentines Day. And even if I were seeing her on Valentines Day, I'm not sure I'd want to do anything "special" on that day simply because it's Valentines Day. I don't need a commercial holiday that only exists to sell cards and tacky gifts to tell me when to show my mate how much I love her.
4. Do you like anyone?
Sure! I like loads of people! Oh, wait, you mean do I fancy anyone...? Well, my mate, sure. But is it still fancying them in the same sense when you're officially a couple?
5. Does someone like you?
Assuming by "like" this question means fancying someone, I sure hope so. I have no reason to think otherwise. :3
6. Were you dating anyone last Valentines?
Yes. In fact, the weekend of last Valentines Day was when we officially became a couple.
7. What would be your dream Valentines date?
That's between me and my mate. >:P
8. Do you make a big deal about Valentines?
Not particularly. Last year was the only time I'd ever been on a "date" on Valentines Day, and that was just sitting around my flat at university watching episodes of Mai HiME and Doctor Who, with some cuddling... a lot of cuddling. ^^
9. Have you ever had a secret admirer?
Not that I know of.
10. Would you ever write someone a love letter?
Not now, but I did write one once when I was, like, fifteen. I'd prefer not to try to recall what I wrote in it. Nowadays, I think I would much rather draw something.
11. Do you believe in Cupid?
Do I believe in a cherub who flies around shooting people in the arse with magical arrows that make them fall in love...? Is this a serious question?
12. Do your parents give you presents on Valentines?
No... I'd be concerned if they did...
13. Do you still send out Valentines cards?
Cards, plural? Who would I be sending them to other than my mate...? Or is sending them to people other than the one you love/fancy an American thing...?
14. Do you like candy hearts?
I'm not sure I'm familiar with them.
15. Is Valentines day depressing?
Only for single people who feel the need to dwell on it.
16. How do you feel about PDA?
I can't object. I'm guilty of it. Very guilty...
Wait! What! Not that guilty!
17. How is your love life?
Happiest it's ever been. :3
Well... It'd be happier if I could see my mate more often, but hopefully that will be remedied when I go back to Stirling for my masters in September. And I am seeing her next week. ^^
18. Have you ever been dumped on Valentines?
No.
19. How many roses would you want?
I don't want any... unless you're referring to Cadbury's Roses. Then I will have the entire box/tin except for the ones with nuts or fruit in them. >:3
20. Will you have a boyfriend/girlfriend next year?
I have no reason to think that I won't. :3

The Fursona Meme, Eon Edition!
Posted 16 years agoWrite down what species of animal your fursona would be within each category, if your fursona had to be a species from that animal type. If/when you reach the category your fursona is already put an alternative animal. Links to pictures are useful and fun but not necessary. Then tag five people.
1. If your fursona had to be a primate, it'd be...
Definitely a ring-tailed lemur. They're adorable!
2. If your fursona had to be a feline, it'd be...
Most likely a wildcat.
3. If your fursona had to be a canine, it'd be...
A fennec fox, uncontested.
4. If your fursona had to be a hoofed animal, it'd be...
That's a little more difficult. I'm not a particularly huge fan of equines and such. I'd want to pick something graceful, so maybe a gazelle.
5. If your fursona had to be a rodent, it'd be...
A kangaroo rat/hopping mouse, because Jyrass is awesome. :p
6. If your fursona had to be a reptile, it'd be...
I think I shall go with the Bermuda rock lizard. They're cute little lizards that you find crawling up walls. :3
7. If your fursona had to be a marsupial, it'd be...
The Tasmanian wolf.
8. If your fursona had to be a fully aquatic animal, it'd be...
Eh, I'm going to be unimaginative here and say bottle-nosed dolphin.
9. If your fursona had to be an amphibian animal it'd be...
Probably the whistling frog.
10. If your fursona had to be an avian/bird, it'd be...
White-tailed tropicbird, also known as the Bermuda longtail.
11. If your fursona had to be a creepy crawly, it'd be...
Do I have to pick a creepy crawly...? *shudders*
Okay, I'd be a bee, because then I could eat your dreams and turn them into pain.
12. If your fursona had to be a real or unreal hybrid, it'd be...
50% wildcat, 25% red squirrel, 25% fennec fox... Oh, wait! That's what it is!
13. If your fursona had to be a mythical creature, it'd be...
This is a surprisingly hard one, but I think I shall just go with dragon.
14. If your fursona had to be a Pokemon/Digimon , it'd be...
This should be two questions. For Pokémon, I'd pick Flareon, and for Digimon... I'd pick Patamon, most probably... maybe Tailmon...
15. If your fursona had to be a vehicle, it'd be...
An Iowa-class battleship.

Epic Fail!
Posted 16 years agoWell, no one responded to my last journal. I guess it was way too presumptuous of me to think my art was well like enough for anyone to provide an answer.
Still, I'm not disheartened. My new year's resolution is still to draw more. I've got another pic in the works, and hopefully it'll be up today or tomorrow. It depends on a couple of things though... I'm interested in using Google SketchUp to create a background for it, but I'm not sure how quickly I'll be able to learn SketchUp. Though it appears to be a damn site easier to use than Blender, and I only need it for a reference really.
Although I don't really consider myself to be a fan of 2, the Ranting Gryphon anymore, some of his advice is still useful, and I really do think that getting your art appreciated (certainly in the furry community) isn't so much a matter of quality as it is quantity. So, more drawings! Naturally, more drawings should also lead to better drawings... one hopes.

This was my idea... okay, I lie...

A pox upon bandwagons and jumping thereon!
Posted 16 years agoI only very begrudgingly join sites like Facebook and only ever under much family and peer pressure. And when I do join, I'm only ever on there once in a blue moon, and most of my photos still aren't up there. I'm also on Twitter, though I usually forget to say anything there.
Very seldom do I find a social networking site that interests me sufficiently to want to sign up of my own accord. This is one of those occasions.
Damn you, MocHi, but formspring.me looks like a lot of fun:

New Year's Resolution Review
Posted 17 years agoSo, one of my New Year's resolutions was to draw more. Since January 1st 2008, I have drawn exactly two pictures (not including Blue Gas Giant, which was entirely created in Paint Shop Pro, and therefore not drawn).
However, I am so very pleased with my latest drawing, 'O Canada' that I may just manage to fulfil that resolution yet. So, watch this space, there may be more art soon.
Maybe...
Hopefully...
I do have five weeks free yet to do whatever I like before I go back to university still, so I've not got any excuse really. >.>

Fetishes. It's going around. :p
Posted 18 years agoWarning! This journal entry contains adult content. Read at your own risk. :3
I saw this in a couple of other journals, and I thought it might be interesting to answer it myself. I daresay I’ll come across as rather boring though.
Abasiophilia (Casts, Braces, Wheelchairs)? - Er... no.
Age Play? - No.
Adult Baby/AB Parent? - Absolutely fricking not! Argh! >.<
Algolagnia (Pleasure derived from physical pain)? - I’m allergic to pain and I find no pleasure in giving it.
Amputee Fetishism (Amputation/Deformity)? - You have got to be kidding. No! NO!
Anal Sex? - It’s a curiosity of mine
Andromimetophilia (Androgeny)? - I much prefer females that are distinctly female, to be honest.
Arse (Ass Play, Worship)? - Er... no.
Asphyxiaphilia (Breath Play, Choking)? - No. Isn’t that like pain again, anyways?
Balloons? - Where do balloons come into sex...?
Bestiality/Zoophilia? - That’s an unequivocal no.
Beating (Flogs, Whips, Canes, etc.)? - Again with the pain! I already said no!
Biastophilia (Committing Rape/Sexual Assault)? - There is nothing hot about non-consensual sex. Besides, doesn’t this fall under pain again?
Biting/Teeth? - Gentle biting is fun, so long as it stays away from sexual organs.
Blood (Drawing Blood, Cutting, etc.)? - I’m not a vampire.
Body Hair? - A very small amount doesn’t bother me.
Body Modification (Tattoos, Branding, Piercings, Scarification, etc.)? - No.
Bondage (Blind folds, Gags, Restraints)? - No.
Breast/Nipple Torture, Clamps, etc.? - I already answered about pain, didn’t I?
Candle Wax? - Pain again.
Chains? - No. Doesn’t this come under bondage?
Chastity Devices? - Where’s the fun in that?
Chinese Balls/Ben Wa Balls/Anal Beads? - I don’t even want to know what those are.
Cling Film/Plastic Wrap? - No.
Cock and Ball Torture, Clamps, etc.? - Pain again.
Collar and Lead/Leash? - Might be amusing, but I wouldn’t get off on it.
Confinement/Caging? - No.
Coprophilia (Shit Play/Scat)? - *throws up in disgust*

Posted 18 years agoApparently my flatmate was right when he said that, even though everyone is probably suffering network difficulties, very few of us are actually complaining about it, which is why nothing is getting done. Obviously everyone seems to think that the ever elusive someone else will save us all the trouble.
Not so. The following is an email I received today in response to my complaint yesterday:
Thank you for reporting the recent problems with the Residences Network. Often people complain amongst themselves without reporting faults to us which isn't helpful, so we appreciate that you took the trouble to let us know what was happening.
My team have identified a problem with the routing of network traffic from the VPN gateway to the web proxy servers. We do not yet know the cause of the problem and therefore it is not yet permanently fixed. However, a workaround has been put in place which we believe has considerably improved the performance for users of the web, and we will be closing your call as completed. If you are still experiencing difficulties please inform the Information Centre (infocentre@stir.ac.uk, ext. 7250). When contacting them please be prepared to say exactly what you were trying to do and what the result was, any error messages, etc, as this level of detail helps us to work out what is wrong, and to fix it faster.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused by this service failure.

The moral of the story is that if there's a problem affecting you, don't wait for someone else to complain about it. The chances are they're thinking the exact same thing.

Posted 18 years agoSince some time late last year (around December, I'd say), it became apparent that the University of Stirling's 'virtual private network' (i.e. internet access in the student residences) was suffering some problems with bandwidth. Too many users using too much of it, with the unfortunate effect of web pages not loading, MSN Messenger signing out unexpectedly (or refusing to sign in in the first place), or the network itself going down, leaving the entire campus unable to connect.
The ICT department assured us that this problem was going to be fixed. Students using the internet to transfer large amounts of music files on peer to peer programs or playing online games would be temporarily banned to discourage the practice and free up bandwidth for the less demanding students. Why do this? I don't know. If I were in their position, I'd try and provide more bandwidth before I ban some people for using too much.
Well, this all happened late last year before I went home for Christmas, and I had hoped that by this time the problems would have been solved. They haven't been. Indeed, over the last week especially they have simply gotten worse every day (or so it seems). In fact, right now this is the best connection I've had for several days. Web pages are loading without failure, MSN is up and running, and has been for about ten to fifteen minutes now, with just one minor hiccough when I signed in. It is a complete reversal of the situation last night, where in the end I was unable to load a single web page, to say nothing of signing into MSN Messenger. I'm lucky I was able to update my website just before these problems started.
This past week has been very frustrating and the ICT department hasn't been that helpful, although the lady at the help desk was good enough to file my complaint for me today, whereas the other day, the lady at the desk simply brushed me off with the same information about bandwidth that we'd all been told via email twice already. And to add to insult to injury, she gave me an email address I could complain to. Yeah, great help there... if I could actually load hotmail.co.uk. At least today, I was asked to describe the problems so that they could be recorded and filed as an official complaint.
Isn't it ironic that the network is okay right now? I hope it stays that way, because, as sad as it sounds, most of what I do revolves around internet access and the internet is how I stay in touch with most of my friends too.
