3DS ^.=.^
Posted 13 years agoHope everyone had a great Christmas! In addition to a few games I got a 3DS, and in fact I am writing this journal using it. I might also toss in my friend code sometime if anybody cares.
Happy New Years!

Uploading a Couple Photos of my Color Theory Projects
Posted 14 years agoYep. The two paintings that I really like. I still have two more projects to do for my class so I may be uploading one or two more within a couple weeks.
*Update: I have moved these to my scraps.
**Update: I decided to keep the images in my main gallery since they are finished projects.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Posted 14 years agoSo recently I got Steam and bought Machinarium (see last journal), and for this Halloween they were having special sales for certain games, and among them Amnesia was on sale for 80% off. Being a fan of horror games I immediatly bought it and began playing it eagerly for all the great things I've heard about it being super scary.
I was a little freaked out for the first half hour of the game - it was great! The part with the Kaernk (invisible water monster) was especially nice.
As I progressed through the game though I swiftly learned how to avoid the monsters and not die - in fact, I just kept getting better and better at it to the point where the harvester dudes became an utter joke to me. They announced their presence loudly, are slow to react, are dumber than bricks and have an eyesight about as good as a gnat.
'But that's ok', I thought, 'surely they will throw some bigger, meaner, more terrifying enemy my way that is harder to predict!' So I kept playing and continued to waltz around those retarded zombie-like gatherers, and the game just kept throwing the same curve ball over and over again. Go around conspicious corner or collect key object, provoke gatherer, run and hide - rinse and repeat. After a few hours of gameplay I came to the grim conclusion that this was all I was ever going to get. At that point the game lost all scary factor for me.
So what gives?! I thought Amnesia was supposed to be one of the scariest games made in recent years! I honestly felt like I had more tense moments in games like Dead Space, even though I laughed at its lack of scary value. Do gamers simply have poor concepts of what truly makes a horrifying game, or am I just some sort of psychopath that isn't bothered by dead bodies, ghostly peals of fright, and groaning and growling boogiemen?
Don't get me wrong though - I enjoyed Amnesia, and at 4$ it was still a total steal. But it was simply a one-trick pony and not remotely the level of scary I was expecting it to be. I was expecting to be super vulnerable and easily killed by disturbing cosmic horrors of incomprehensible nature - both in form and action. What I did not expect was slow 'zombies' that despawn completely by simply sitting in a corner or in a wardrobe.
I guess what this boils down to is that Amnesia is too easy and too predictable with too little variety to be the kind of scary that I was hoping it would be.

Machinarium
Posted 14 years agoIt's only taken me up until now to actually buy and download it - and I call myself a gamer >.=.>
For those who have neard heard of it Machinarium is a Flash point-and-click puzzle-adventure game made by Czech indie game company Amanita Design. It's brief but delightfully quirky and witty and backed with beautiful art work and musical compositions.
I could go on on a long critique but the bottom line is that it's one of the better indie games you will ever come across. It's only 10$ and I highly recommend it.

And before anyone says anything, yes I'm aware that I'm two years behind on this. Oh well, never too late to discover a great game.
