Please be just a little more patient
Posted 8 months agoI know I can go long stretches of time without posting anything, leaving people to wonder if I'm OK. The answer is usually yes; it's just that I have many other interests and it's *extremely* difficult for me to stay focused on any one project. That being said, my next art post is coming soon. I'm not sure exactly when, but it should be just a matter of days now.

Gallery now folder-ized!
Posted 2 years agoI finally started using the folder system on this site, going through all my FA posts ever to put everything in its place. So now you can browse my gallery by character (at least the ones I thought I'd drawn enough to give their own folder) or by a few other categories.

Flappy Kylina
Posted 4 years agoMy friend SabreXT has made a Flappy Bird clone starring my character Kylina! I know a lot of you like it when Ky's shoes come off, revealing her sexy feet. Well, her shoes can come off in the game! It happens if her legs make contact with a wall. Only her body hitting a wall will end the game.

Fangs of Justice development update 2
Posted 4 years agoI've just posted my second development update video for Fangs of Justice (my video game) on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avEvMTy9r4A
In this video, I talk about the game's enemies having all been successfully ported from the old version, the new level editor in progress, and the features I'll be able to add to the levels when the editor is complete.

Forgotten Characters
Posted 4 years agoThere's a certain thrill about creating a new character. Coming up with the right visual elements to complete the design, imagining what role that character will play in your world, and plotting out storylines and interactions with other characters. Sometimes, though, it doesn't work out. Some characters are duds; others just fall through the cracks for one reason or another. Whenever I think about characters that have slipped into obscurity, Dival always comes to mind.
Do you remember Dival? Of course you don't. She was dead on arrival. I posted her shortly after I opened this account, then proceeded to do nothing with her. My design goal for Dival was to see how many items of clothing I could cram onto one character. Apparently, that's not a good foundation for me to build a character around, but I didn't know that then. I cast Dival as a villain in the webcomic I was planning, which was the original purpose of this account. I even put her in my avatars on both FA and deviantART, because I clearly thought she was going to be a major character in my stories. But when I abandoned the webcomic after only three pages, Dival lost any purpose she had, and I haven't posted so much as a sketch of her since. I guess I just never really liked her.
Another character who was similarly affected by the demise of my short-lived webcomic is Tommy's sister Amanda (Mandy) Gecko. I could no longer find a place for her in my world, and she all but disappeared. Unlike Dival, Amanda did have a visual design that I liked, but I've drawn so many gothy characters since then that she's gotten lost in the crowd. That being said, it is still canon that Tommy has a sister. But if she's ever seen again, she may look very different, and might even have a new name.
There are other reasons for some of my characters fading from prominence. Let's take Yofi, for example. I created her as my token chubby girl. Though I planned to use her in the webcomic, I mainly ended up using her in a series of pics in which some sort of mishap befalls her. The intention was usually just to make her lose a shoe, but I made her look so sad in these pics that people started saying that they felt sorry for her, which made me feel bad for putting Yofi through all this misfortune. Yofi had become a Woobie, to use the TV Tropes term. ( https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki......Main/TheWoobie ) After that, I didn't know what to do with her anymore. Also, by that time, I had established Judy Hippo and her daughter Bree as my new token chubby girls. They were better at that role, and on top of that, Bree was better at being a goth than Amanda was. Making it even harder to find a use for Yofi is the fact that she's an elementary school teacher, and most of my stories now revolve around kinky office shenanigans. There just isn't much overlap between those two worlds.
Why am I bringing up this topic? Because I want to talk about how exciting it is to revive a forgotten character with a great redesign or repurposing. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to pull it off recently, but I have done it in the past. Austra was salvaged from a video game I planned out when I was a kid, then shelved because I had no way of making the game, and it wasn't one of my better game ideas anyway. Now Austra is one of my best--and sexiest--characters. Rugor was originally a male character in an idea I had for a Mortal Kombat-like game. He was the big, brutish, all muscle, no brain, "ME SMASH!" type of character. Later I realized that I find that archetype boring, so if I had ever made that game, I likely would have dropped him from the roster. A few years down the road, I had the idea for a story involving a large, muscular female character who is mistaken for a male, and I decided to pull Rugor out of storage and gender-swap him to take that role. I quickly lost interest in that story, but I discovered that I liked Rugor as a female. It was around then that I began to flesh out her Ogmari race, developing them as fierce fighters and capable mercenaries. I also came up with the six fingers and toes thing. I like how that makes her unique among my characters. Austra and Ru are my two greatest redesign success stories.
Sometimes the creation of a new character can open the door for forgotten characters to get a second chance. I feel like this could happen with Lindsey. Since she runs her own company, she's going to need a lot of support staff, as well as a few "freelancers" to assist her with certain less-than-ethical operations, given the business culture at LLT. I could draw from my collection of existing but unused characters to fill these roles. It'll still take some re-imagining or redesigning to make it work, but it's fun to do.
Is it possible that even Dival can be fixed with the right redesign? I believe so. I mean, in some ways, I think Lindsey already *is* a better version of Dival. Nevertheless, making the original Dival not suck would be a fascinating challenge. If you've managed to read this far, thank you! I do love to discuss my character and world development processes at length, and I'm always trying to get better at those things.

Plans for 2020
Posted 5 years agoSo I realized that until "Dark Warriors 2020" went up, I hadn't submitted anything here since July. So much for being more productive. I am still around, at least. And another new year brings another opportunity to create, imagine, and re-imagine.
I have had some ideas building up in my head these past few months, and I can't wait to put pen to tablet and get them out there. This year I plan to introduce new characters, new scenarios which utilize my characters in new ways, and maybe even a new alien race or two. If I have time, I'd also like to try some redesigns and a couple of feature journals.
And of course, I'm going to get back to work on my commissions. Not going to say much else about that, because talk is cheap and getting shit done is the only thing that matters.

A simple resolution
Posted 6 years agoI usually don't make New Year's Resolutions, knowing I'll never realistically keep them. But here's one I'm pretty confident I can keep: This year I'm going to be more productive. I believe I'm going to get a lot more art done, and make progress on my other projects as well.
Why am I so confident? Because I am not currently playing World of Warcraft. It was a simple realization: When I'm subscribed to WoW, I almost literally get nothing done. When I'm not subscribed, I can sometimes get myself to do actual work. Fortunately, the current WoW expansion is such a dumpster fire that it made it easy to unsub. And I think it's for good this time.
Speaking of World of Warcraft, I'm looking more and more like the South Park WoW hacker every day, so I guess I need to go back on a diet this year, too.

Streets of Rage 4 announced...
Posted 7 years ago...aaaaaand no stockings on Blaze.
To be honest, I really don't like the art style of SOR4 in general. It's hand-drawn animation that looks like it was done on a low budget. One of the YouTube comments said, "It looks like a Flash game." I couldn't think of a better way to phrase that myself.
Who knows? The gameplay might end up being incredible, but between the art direction and memories of other long-awaited sequels to beloved video game franchises of the past that ended up as disappointments, I'm currently not too optimistic about this one.

Fight'N Rage
Posted 8 years agoI'm a little surprised that this game hasn't gotten more traction in the anthro/furry community. Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. It's a classic-styled beat-'em-up featuring mostly anthropomorphic animal characters. Here's a link to the Steam store page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/6.....0/FightN_Rage/
As I've mentioned before in this space, I'm a HUGE fan of old-school beat-'em-ups, and the two best series from that genre were Final Fight and Streets of Rage. You may have guessed from the name that Fight'N Rage draws its inspiration from those two. It's a lot of fun and it gets the official LQCTim seal of approval. The only downside is that now I'm worried that when I finish *my* game, people will accuse me of ripping off Fight'N Rage.
Pfft. Like I'm ever going to finish my game.

Anybody have One Night at Flumpty's 1 and/or 2?
Posted 10 years agoI know this is a longshot, but One Night at Flumpty's 1 and 2 are two of the better Five Nights at Freddy's clones out there, and I'd been meaning to play them, but I never got around to downloading them and now they're no longer on Game Jolt. Is there anyone out there who has one or both games and can hook me up? Or maybe you know some other place to download them (which hopefully isn't rife with malware)? Let me know.
EDIT: Never mind; they're both back up on Game Jolt now.

Beast's Fury is dead, and I'm an idiot.
Posted 10 years agoYesterday, Ryhan Stevens, project lead of the indie fighting game Beast's Fury, announced via the game's FA page that production on the game was shutting down permanently. And then shut down the FA page a couple of hours later. In the previous weeks, it had become obvious that the end was near, but I really should have paid attention to the warning signs way before that.
I was aware that a successful crowdfunding campaign does not guarantee that an indie game project will be completed--far from it. I was aware that much more high-profile projects, like Yogventures, had failed. And I knew that in its search to find a publisher, Beast's Fury had an extra hurdle to get over, which is the stigma that all things furry bear in the eyes of mainstream observers.
Perhaps the biggest red flag I ignored was the fact that it took *several* Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns just to get a demo out. Each time we were essentially told, "We're sorry, we made some mistakes with the money you gave us before, but we'll do better this time!" I forgot one of the basic principles of life: If someone is bad at managing money, DON'T GIVE THEM MORE MONEY. And yet I did. Over the course of the various crowdfunding campaigns, I donated an embarrassingly large amount of money to the project. I won't disclose that total here, but needless to say I am never, ever going to give any Kickstarter that much money again, no matter how much I like the idea.
Why did I give so much? I was yearning for a good furry fighting game, the character designs looked pretty cool, and I trusted the artists, animators, musicians, and voice actors who were part of the team. And I still trust *them*--they did a lot of good work while the project was still active. It turns out Ryhan himself was the problem. Here was a guy who had zero experience in the game development industry, with no proof that he could set a realistic budget or use resources efficiently. And he couldn't. Perhaps the most egregious example of this was the game's cinematic finishing moves. Don: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixBR5GTWr-8 Vincent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDoI1RpoA2k Yeah, they look great. But they required a *massive* amount of animation, and given how challenging they would have been to pull off, they would only have been seen in a tiny fraction of actual matches. Not only that, they also required each possible victim to be individually animated into each finishing move, which would have created exponentially more work if they had gotten to the point where more characters would have been added to the game.
People did express their concerns about the direction the game (and its funding model) was taking, but Ryhan was so thin-skinned that he took any criticism as a personal insult. He cited the criticism as one of the reasons he was shutting down the game. He had a short temper too--on at least a couple of occasions, I personally witnessed him in stream chats getting into arguments with fans of the game over pretty minor things. Ryhan's abrasive personality caused significant PR problems for Beast's Fury, not the least of which was his feud with the Skullgirls team and fan base. He even once admitted in a stream that he isn't terribly fond of the furry community. Publicly stating that you don't like the core of your potential fan base? Not smart.
I'm normally fairly responsible with my money. So in retrospect, it's hard to believe how financially reckless I got with Beast's Fury. It's depressing to think about how much money I sunk into this project. And what do I have to show for it? A bare-bones demo, a poster I'm now ashamed to put up, and a couple of T-shirts I'm ashamed to wear. You know what else is depressing? All the beautiful animation that LordDirk and Juco put so many hours into was all for naught, not to mention all the contributions made by people like SorcererLance, ChaosDraco, and Fox Amoore.
On the bright side though, I've been enjoying the heck out of an indie game that *did* make it to completion (and I'm pretty sure didn't rely on crowdfunding), and that's Action Henk. http://store.steampowered.com/app/285820 If you can imagine the original Sonic the Hedgehog as a racing game, that's kind of what it's like. But what really sold the game for me is the nostalgia factor. Henk is a living action figure who runs on tracks built from toys in the kind of rooms I wish I'd had when I was a kid. Brings back the childhood feels! And trying to shave milliseconds off your time to get the best medal on every track is pretty addictive. It gets the LQCTim seal of approval!
Idea: Paw-gram commissions?
Posted 10 years agoSo, I've had this idea kicking around in my head for a new kind of commission. I wouldn't open these immediately, since I still have other commissions I need to finish, but I'm wondering how much interest there would be in commissions based on my Austra Paw-gram pic from a few months ago. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16608968/
You'd be able to get any of my characters, male or female, wearing the Paw-stal Service uniform (cap, blouse, shorts, stockings, and heels) and sticking a foot in your face with some kind of message on it (or not, if you don't want).
Let me know what you think of this concept.

Computer frustrations
Posted 10 years agoSo, late last year, I decided to buy myself a new computer, since the one I was using had frequent freeze-ups of which I could never find the cause, plus there were new games coming in 2015 which were gonna need more pixel-pushing GPU power. I ordered a reasonably-priced model from a lesser-known company. The specs were modest, but I planned to upgrade it a few months later.
The new machine had its own issues. Its graphics card, which I thought was slightly better than the one in my old computer, was actually *much* worse. So I had to upgrade immediately. And when the new graphics card arrived, I found it required a power supply unit more powerful than the one the new computer came with. So I had to order a new PSU and wait a few more days for that to arrive. But when it did, and I finally got everything hooked up correctly, it ran wonderfully.
Until about a month ago, when the computer suddenly went dead. I called tech support, the guy had me test the PSU, it failed, and I had to send it back to the manufacturer. While waiting for the replacement part to come, I hooked the computer's original PSU and graphics card back up. It didn't work. I started to get a bad feeling that the power supply wasn't the problem after all. Three weeks after sending the new PSU back, I finally got its replacement. I connected it and... the computer didn't work. Not only that, I discovered that when I had called tech support earlier, the guy who told me how to test the PSU was wrong. So I wasted three weeks and $27 in shipping costs sending back a perfectly good PSU. Worse yet, I *still* don't know what's wrong with my computer. It's probably either the power switch itself or the motherboard. But I'm not sure how to test the power switch, and I have no idea how to disassemble it if necessary.
The logical part of my brain tells me that I will eventually get the new computer running again, but I can't shake the feeling that I won't. I've been using my old computer again for the last month, but the new one had a bunch of new stuff I'd been working on. There's at least one commission I'm sure I would have had done by now, but I can't access the file. It's an extremely frustrating situation, especially since this is a real busy week for me and I haven't had time to work on or research the problem. So, to those waiting for a commission or art trade from me, I apologize for this added delay on top of the usual slowness that comes from my incredible laziness.

Posted 11 years agoMortal Kombat X: PS4 or Steam?
Posted 11 years agoI'm a huge Mortal Kombat fan. So much so that more often than not, my decision to buy a new console has been driven by the next Mortal Kombat game in the pipeline. I bought my N64 in anticipation of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, I bought my PS2 for Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and now that Mortal Kombat X is on the horizon, I'll be facing that decision again in the next few months. I've narrowed it down to this: I'm either going to buy a PS4 or get MKX on Steam.
If I get the PS4 version, I'll at least know that I'm experiencing the game as the creators intended because the hardware is standardized. There will likely be less bugs/glitches/other issues because of that. Also, I'm already on PSN, so I can continue to use my account. Finally, a PS4 will be less expensive than a new computer (if necessary), and may be less expensive than upgrading my computer.
But these days, I find that I greatly prefer staying on my PC and playing games through Steam to firing up a console. And my PC is always online, whereas it's a pain in the ass to get my PS3 online (I don't know if this is true of PS4). But I want at least the same quality of graphics that you can get on the PS4, and I don't know if my PC (which was pretty current when I bought it in August 2011) can handle that. There's a good chance I'll have to upgrade my PC or even buy a new one to get the graphics I want, and that could be very expensive.
Xbox One is not under consideration because I wouldn't be able to use my PSN or Steam accounts. And I'm not buying MKX for last-gen consoles.
So, any advice on what I should do? PS4 or PC?

Recording a game without using FRAPS?
Posted 11 years agoThose of you who have been following me for a while have probably seen me make mention of the game I've been working on from time to time. I'd like to get some high-quality footage out there of the game in its current form, but the problem is that FRAPS, the most commonly-used software for recording gameplay, just doesn't work on my computer. Can anyone recommend a good program I can use for recording high-quality game footage? I don't mind if the software isn't free.
New Year's Resolutions
Posted 12 years agoI've been thinking about what I want to accomplish art-wise in the near future, and I've come to a few determinations about that. What better time than New Year's Day to announce them? Think of these as my resolutions for 2014.
1. The Lizard Queen Chronicles comic will resume this year. After all, that's what I started this account for in the first place, and I think that's still the best way to present my characters and stories. I'm not going to abandon the other things I like to draw, but I feel like the comic needs to be the central focus of my artwork.
2. I need to work on creating more interesting male characters. I love my ladies, but I'd like to have more of a balance of genders. I have few male characters, and the ones I do have tend to be dull and/or underdeveloped. I think the issue is that I tend to create characters based on sex appeal, and when I do, they're going to be females. I need to learn more about what makes compelling characters and apply that to my own work.
3. I'd like to do some Livestreaming this year. I'm not sure just what I'll be Livestreaming--the comic? Commissions? Random things I feel like drawing? Maybe a little bit of everything.
4. This isn't really a resolution, but I think I'd like to continue the story of Yofi losing her boot in the elevator doors. Feel free to post your ideas and suggestions if you have any.

One of my all-time favorite games is on sale for under $3!
Posted 12 years agoI tell ya, I am lovin' this Steam winter sale. Just this month, I've gotten so many games for under $10--Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Shadow Warrior (the new one), Skullgirls, Dust: An Elysian Tail, and more. So today I check the Steam Store and I see that they're having a flash sale on Wizardry 8! Instead of explaining why I love this game so much, I'll just link you to the deviantART journal I wrote on the subject: http://lqctim.deviantart.com/journa.....OWNS-250570238
The game can be bought on its own for $2.49, but it's also available in a bundle with Wizardry 6 and 7 for $2.24. At that price, you really can't lose. Keep in mind that this is only an 8-hour sale, so if you're interested, you have to act fast.

Thought on Portal 2
Posted 12 years agoOkay, I know I'm late to the party on this, but Steam recently had a sale on a bunch of games, so I finally played Portal 2. And the songs GLaDOS sings at the end of each game are great, but damn it, Cave Johnson needs his own song.
Ideas for Halloween pic?
Posted 12 years agoI want to do another Halloween pic this year. Here are a few I've done:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1628293/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9157438/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/872773/
The thing is, I need an idea for this year's Halloween pic, and I'd like to see what ideas you guys have. Would you like to see one of my characters in a particular costume? Dressed in goth clothing? Perhaps I can draw another one of my characters as a zombie? The ideas don't have to be limited to those, either. As per my usual disclaimer, I can't guarantee that I'll use any idea posted here. But I want to see what you think!

Finally, after 23 years, a sequel to River City Ransom!
Posted 12 years agoRiver City Ransom was one of my favorite NES games when I was younger. As I've mentioned before, I love beat-'em-ups, and the addition of RPG-style elements was pretty innovative. I've wondered why they never made a sequel, or why nobody else ever tried to do something similar. So I'm very excited about River City Ransom: Underground. It's being made in the same style as the original, but with a larger city, more diverse movesets, up to 4-player co-op, and the characters even have different bodies from each other now! Best of all, it's officially licensed by the creators of the original game. It's an indie game, so of course they need to raise funds through Kickstarter, but I'll be contributing. The page is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....om-underground . Hopefully they reach their goal.
Now, if someone would just do an updated version of The Combatribes...

Furry fighting game needs crowdfunding
Posted 12 years agoAs a guy who's trying to develop a furry video game, I thought I'd try to help these guys out, who are doing the same, but maybe on a more ambitious scale:
beastsfurystudio
They're working on a furry fighting game called "Beast's Fury", but they need to raise money, so they've got an Indiegogo set up: http://igg.me/at/BeastsFury/x/817888
Let's try to get this project off the ground!
