Posted 14 years agoThe hyena therianthropy thing is now somewhat fixed. I don't need to share that stuff in the furry fandom anymore. That doesn't mean I won't draw hyenas: just, it'll eventually be featured on DA, or in better place like ConceptArt, and obviously labeled "fantasy", because the Luka Sclayène character rather belongs to fantasy than to the furry fandom.
And, most of it, the big reason is "Luka Sclayène" will become my main artistic alias for comics and fantasy stuff. That means my comics will be signed under that name. Thus, I can't allow myself to use this name in such a website, with all the suspiscions of illegal activities I won't detail here that are floating around. That would simply ruin my project. It was a mistake to register here under this name.
I finally prefer to post lulzy pr0nz under an obscure alias than to post clean, elaborated art that deserves much better than FA with what all this very place is associated with.
After 12.25, this account will be purged.
And, most of it, the big reason is "Luka Sclayène" will become my main artistic alias for comics and fantasy stuff. That means my comics will be signed under that name. 4- Maybe the polar bear, for the environmental meaning.

7- Orca's, me opinion is they're maybe as intelligent as humans.

I found the French edition a week ago, 10 €.
Little downside: it's only about animals from North America, but the advice is quite general, and it'll have much utility for the fauna I'll have to invent for my comics - this with the complement of the palaeontography I used to draw some years ago.
If you find that book, you gotta buy it.

Posted 15 years agoJust watched Nicolas Hulot's "Ushuaïa Nature" this evening. The man does a great job to promote education to Nature conservation.

For the size, they'd be like what foxes are for canines. But brown hyenas are calm, about the opposite of the spotted hyenas, and they're omnivores: they gather what they can: small animals, worms, eggs, fruits, about all they can.
But there's a downside: they say they're really endangered, dunno why. It'd be a pity to loose them. Like for almost all issues about Nature conservation, I think education for the local people would greatly help for the situation to get better.

But this is how Nature works: the zebra couldn't escape hyenas and got nommed.
Well yeah, I took the hyena as animal side, but one must step back and accept this is part of their behaviour. Still, I love hyena and sorta identify as one, but uh, Luka is anthro and not a random hyena.

As Frank Pé and Raives say, if you wanna put much light in a pic, most of it must be dark, so the clearer areas will appear very bright. Renaissance artists anyone?

Between half an hour and several months.

- How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
My twisted ming has ideas popping up, now it can take much time to elaborate them, and most of the time I have to scrap it and testart from the beginning cuz I have new ideas added to the first ones. Or sometimes I ain't happy with the original idea and I have to scrap it or to modify it.
- Your favorite drawing utensils?
Mostly pencils on Bristol paper.
- Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
If I were colorizing my paw-made crap there would be various tones of brown and green, mostly bright ones, as dominant colors, cuz it's the Forest, and hyenas are brown... :)
- Your favorite style(s)?
Belgian & French school of comic-strip: Jean-Claude Servais, Lidwine, Lambert, Frank Pé, Loisel. Otherwise, Roger Dean. Also, the Nature is artistic enough. :)
- Are you satisfied with your current art?
Nope. Except one or two rare pieces, I tend to consider my stuff as utter shite.
- What kind of artist are you aiming for?
meh. I don't take my drawings seriously enough anymore. I hope to have something like 6 decent pieces for the Anthisnes con next Spring.

To the left. I generally begin a face portrait with the muzzle. A goddamn habit, sort of. pah

animal: side view. human: front view. Yeah, lame :P

Hands, feet, some perspective, and damnit TOWNS cuz it doesn't interest me. uh and cars and motorbikes and airplanes .

hyenas, dinosaurs, reptiles, wild Nature, twisted trees, weird plants, mushrooms and other twisted shite.

Traditional, cuz I'm too lazy to try digital :P

Depends on the subject.

Depends on the day. Sometimes the morning, sometimes the evening.
- Any tips for coloring/shading?
As Frank Pé and Raives say, if you wanna put much light in a pic, most of it must be dark, so the clearer areas will appear very bright. Renaissance artists anyone?
