What a week, huh?
Posted a day agoWell, for me anyway. Got my novel being checked with a content editor. Got my blog updated again:
https://www.writing.com/main/books/.....try_id/1101591
and also got the final checks going for the audible version of the first year of "Life With A Werewolf"
https://a.co/d/ccvOitj
Things I plan on doing:
10 more stories for my collaborative short story profile. I'll probably release them monthly. The idea for that is, I give the writer a prompt, the barest instructions on the universe, and they write. They get nothing else. I'm not striving for continuity between stories, I'm striving for fantastic stories about survival and hope in this midst of techno-dystopian chaos.
When I submit my novel to agents, I'll let everyone know here and elsewhere what it is about. Suffice to say it has a good premise, but there's a few trouble spots that I need to iron out. And I've learned to not just toss work out there when it needs fixing.
Anyway, thank you everyone. Hope you had a good few weeks and that your weekend will be better.

I'm back!
Posted a week agoHello everyone!
I've spent the past 3 days in a virtual writers convention. I learned a lot! Mainly at first I learned how Zoom works on Linux (Hint: only through it's android like app). But I did learn. The entire publishing process, so to speak. Well from the front end anyway. From the end of submitting query letters, to pitching to agents, to even doing advertising for your work before hand.
I also learned a bit about Author websites, E-mail lists and the like. There will be a few more classes that I will jump into tomorrow, then I'll start working again on my other things that I've been putting off. Namely, Life With A Werewolf, other furry writings. Perhaps even doing a sequel to my techno-distopian dome collection.
Namely, I've been trying to learn this entire ordeal.
My goal has been to keep a foot in both waters: a normie writing publication, and a furry one. (Perhaps pen names would be best for that...hmm...)
But ultimately to keep creating in both markets. It's strange how different this side of the public life can be. And how much of that life is honestly in our own hands, but we must put ourselves out there consistently, and steadily in the same areas doing the same things. I'm going to spend the next 3 months probably figuring out how I can talk about my writing without feeling like a used car salesman. I figure it'll take about that long for me to figure out how to use Facebook advertising.

New Life With A Werewolf up
Posted a month agoHey everyone!
https://www.writing.com/main/books/.....try_id/1098098
Jason is getting his butt chewed. Or is it an interview?
Hope you enjoy this one. It's a slice of life thing. I'm going to try and start more zombie shenanigans next month, but they'll be more funny things here and there. Nothing crazy. After my thing in November, I'll start working on a new project. Probably what I'm tentatively titling "The Doveland Incident" from here, or maybe the "Action Couple" story that I want to turn into a series. Hmm....
Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry. Enjoy.

If I wrote about the Doveland incident, would anyone want to read it?
Just curious.

Just a quick announcement
Posted 2 months agoPutting Life With A Werewolf back on Fridays.
A couple reasons: 1) I feel like the quality of the writing wasn't as good.
2) Gives me more breathing room in my week.
That means I have a goal of posting a Thursday Writing Prompt on Wednesday.
So my Writing Prompt won't be so....prompt.
Yeah, I know, bad jokes. Throw your tomatoes at me as I exit stage right.

A couple thoughts on the new site format
Posted 2 months agoThere's a couple things that do bug me about the way the site is currently treating stories and poetry.
I do like that it auto loads the story for the reader. I understand a lot of readers out there don't want to download things, and I understand why. There is still some danger to it with viruses, plus after you read a thing once you may not care to see it again and it will be just sitting in your phone or hard drive till you remember to delete it. Not to mention, the painful act of having to use a mobile reader. Let's face it, a lot of big name mobile readers still are annoying to use.
But the way the site reads documents makes mine unreadable, it seems. I double-space all of my writing. I indent every paragraph. But the reader on the site doesn't see those, so it reads my document like a giant wall of text without any indentions.
I then have to go back through and put spaces between everything so the reader can at least see the text. Which is annoying to me and not as visibly pleasing as having documents already indented.
I don't know if there's code or something I'm missing. Writing.com lets me use the tag {indent} but I'm not sure that will work here. Lol, guess I'm saying...
HELP!
EDIT:
So, apparently some of my work has indentations some of my work does not. Some of my work has appropriate spaces between each paragraph, some doesn't. I must investigate further.

Life With A werewolf delayed
Posted 3 months agoSorry, delaying the writing.com update this week. Not anywhere near satisfied with this update. Would rather punch it up a few times than give you something I feel is subpar.
This is what kills writers....
Posted 3 months agoNot a journal I wanted to write. But, things are well, they're at a point. Not just for me, but for a lot of writers I've seen online, here and in other places.
Writers write. It's what we do. We also share to the world with you. Most of us don't do this for fortune, fame, or to win some sort of game or prizes. What we're looking for is...you. Interaction. A comment of some kind, a message, a mention. These are like hands reaching through our screens, our keyboards out to us to shake in greeting. They're a way for us to meet you.
Most writers are introverts. It just comes with the territory. I, myself, write because these are the scenes that I see playing out in my own head on a daily basis. It's something I can't quite stop. I'm not a normal person, and pretending to be normal feels like putting on wet jeans. So, I write. Like many, when I post here, or elsewhere, I'm not seeking praises, I'm not seeking condemnation definitely. I'm seeking interaction.
I want to know what you'd do in a similar situation. I want to know what you liked or didn't like. I want to know if it inspires you, or if it reminds you of something. I want to know. It's why I posted it.
There seems to be far less interaction with writing in general in the past ten years. I don't know if it's post Facebook hangover, if it's because people these days, after so many comment section wars have become weary. Or if it's because writing, in general, has become passe' and is going to be forgotten about in less than a generation. All I know is that interaction with writing has dropped. And for an introvert who seeks communication with the outside world through writing, that's becoming a problem.
So please, if you read writing you like - whether it's mine or someone else's, let them know. If you don't like something about it, mention it politely. If it reminds you of a family memory, tell us. This isn't TMI as we used to say, we genuinely would like to know - it's why we posted it for free in the first place. Don't forget, if we didn't want to know there's that little checkbox at the bottom of this site that says "Disable comments".
Writers write. It's what we do.
We see worlds and creatures with dangerous goals
heroes in horrible situations
villains at their nadir
and we post it all for you.
Fame and fortune would be nice
but a simple comment will do.
A word or two about what you think
or the memory it sparks within you.
We seek to know you more
to reach through the screen and keyboard
to touch some part of you inside
to inspire, to enlighten, to emblaze
to help you feel more alive.
But we can't know what we're doing
whether good or ill
is accomplishing anything
if all we hear is nill.
So please let us know
a comment, a mention, a word to go.
It helps us along the way.
Your simple comment,
your memory you share,
your brief bit of insight on 17th century colonial literature
could actually keep one writer going
for one more day.
So when you read someone's writing
whether it's mine or anyone else's,
please give us a simple mention.
It could be nothing, who's to say?
But your little comment,
your memory and bit of trivia,
could be the reason one more writer chooses to stay.

A few changes...
Posted 4 months agoI miss writing for the Thursday Writing Prompt. I'm working on this novel, and between the novel and my werewolf story, I haven't had time.
Since most of my updates for the last month have been late anyway, I'm making a change.
Life With A Werewolf will be updated Tuesdays now, not Fridays.
This is so I can write and interact more in the Thursday Prompt. It's also to give me a bit of breathing room on other projects I'm working on.
Thanks everyone!

New Life With A Werewolf up
Posted 5 months agoHey everyone!
The new one is here:
https://www.writing.com/main/books/.....try_id/1091885
First one in this arc is here:
https://www.writing.com/main/books/.....ry-Lane-Part-1
Starting next week, I will be posting on FA, from the beginning, the entire Blog of "Life With A Werewolf". THIS WILL NOT BE A DUMP. I have almost 130 entries, and that is not fair to dump that much at once to the readers, to other posters, or even to FA poor servers. So, I'm hoping to post two to three a week at most until I'm caught up.
Also:
Yes, the guest writer anthology has been cancelled. I have a few stories I will post, but I'm going to post the side stories on Kindle. Probably just charge either 99 cents or free for them. Haven't decided yet.
Thanks everyone.
