Vacation update
Posted 12 years agoVisiting Oahu was was quite an adventure. I did not want it to end. I feel my spirits lift when I was there. A weight that was taken on my shoulders. Many of the locals I've talked to harbor the spirit of Aloha. A philosophy I miss from the islands when I am back on the mainland.
Every morning, sometimes even around 4:30am, I am greeted with a view of surfers catching waves. They make it look effortless. I know it is not as easy as it looks. On the second of the last day of my vacation I was able to take a surfing lesson. This was the 2nd time I surfed and still too much of a newbie at it. Practicing the strokes and lifting your body on a practice board on the sand may feel easy once you get the hang of it, but finding your balance on the waves is a whole other matter, or at least it was for me. I wiped out on the board way too many times, I have the scratches and sunburns to prove it. XD However, int he end I was able to catch 2 decent rides. If given the chance or offer, I would like to try surfing again.
It was fun hanging out with some of the locals, immersing myself into their culture, philosophy, and their events like Lei Day. I do not remember much about the history of the day. All over the island there was lei making competitions, hula demonstrations, a music concert, checked out the vendors.
Aside from Lei Day and surfing, I ate sushi, drove all over the coastal towns of the island, received a massage, walked through the botanical gardens, swam at Weimeia (spelling?) Falls, saw a Polynesian dance show, saw a hula competition, swam at the beach, paddled an outrigger, and visited Honolulu Museum of Art. Yes, we even did some touristy activities.

Back from my vacation
Posted 12 years agoBack from my trip to Oahu. The three flights I took back were downright painful on my long sunburns on both legs down to just above my ankles. I can tolerate pain to an extent but the last two connecting flights had me whimpering. Should have brought painkillers with me.
Learned lesson; when going surfing double check to see I am using waterproof sunblock instead of the regular kind. XD
Took some painkillers and Banadryll tonight. That should help me.
Will write more about trip later.

Going on vacation
Posted 12 years agoDreading tomorrow's 12 hour shift. However, I'll be happy once my shift ends after 10pm.
and I drive down to Manchester, NH to catch the early bird flight on Sunday.
I am taking a long overdue vacation to the island of Oahu. I'll be gone April 28th - May 4th.
I am excited about this trip and looking forward to spending time with a friend over there.

~ Roy AdzakI was reading some posts friends wrote about themselves as an artist. It saddened me when they said they felt they don't deserve to have anyone watch their art. If they could see the admirable qualities and in this case talent in someone else, why can’t they see those qualities in themselves?
Art is such a large part of our everyday lives that we may hardly even stop to think about it. Art is something that is aesthetically pleasing to our eyes. Art is also subjective, meaning something different for every person. Art can be anything from drawings, fursuits, kigarmis, compositions, photography, sculpture, ceramics, stained glasses, a designed piece of furniture, architecture, dance, etc etc.
Art stimulates different parts of our brains and brings forth range of emotions. Art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. For some, we go through life not appreciating things around us because we are creatures of habit. Art is all around us, just waiting for us to enjoy and captivate us if we would just stop for a moment and look.
We enjoy art, collect art, and try to produce art. We admire those who create art.
Arists add their own unique perspective to their interpretation when creating art. We share a common thread, we identify ourselves with the artist. When looking at art, we are allured by its beauty and we lose ourselves in a small created world, where there is just us and the work before us. We feel a connection on some deep level, a stir, and we are drawn in, like a moth to a flame.
I admire all of you artists and fursuit makers out there and appreciate what you do. Never stop believing in yourself and your admirable abilities.

Posted 12 years agoLats weekend, I drove to CT for an early birthday surprise visit to see my great friend 
MellenCollie and her cool mate 
Kutal. We had a blast hanging out and I met some other furs. While there, one of them made a comment they have not seen me post anything for awhile. So, here's an update.
Work has been same old same old and I have incorporated using my work's gym every chance I can. Some days the work out videos have been kicking my arse leaving me tired or hyper (depends on the day) when I return home.
Only new thing that happened this week is my car's left rear barring blew on my way to work. It's fixed now and has been driving okay, knock on wood. Also, my supervisor gave me a birthday card today signed by my coworkers with some entertaining messages. My birthday is this Sunday.
I cannot wait to hang out with fur-iends at tomorrow's furmeet up in Burlington. Should be fun. ^_^
Other than that, that is all she wrote......

2013 Conventions

I found out on work scheduler I cannot attend many of the cons I want to attend to this year. Unless, I am able to persuade a coworker to take those shifts. The problem is, work gives only gives me 1 week in advance for the following weeks schedule. I wish it gave us a month in advance. =(
May 12th - 25th are red weeks (i.e. no vacation time available)
= No What the Fur or Anime Boston
June 30th - July 6th is a red week.
= no Anthrocon
(I was stupid and forgot to look at my scheduler to see if it is a green week. So I requested that time off for vaca. I was denied because they said it was a red week. I am a dork. XD)
October is blank for the month, which either means they haven't scheduled for that month or I might be lucky and use PTO for FurFright. At this point, I am not holding my breath at this point.
My dilemma is do I register for the red week cons and hope I can persuade coworkers to take those shifts or should I not register?

After the plunge
Posted 13 years agoThe Penguin Plunge was exhilarating! Dove right in, the water was warmer than I thought. I hate it when I psych myself up before an event or situation involving people. I get too nervous bringing forth more unneeded stress.
If no one has tried the Penguin plunger or the Polar Bear Plunge then, I suggest to give it a try. We only live once and the proceeds go to a good cause. The money we raised went to the Special Olympics and to the family of an ex-employee, who died in his mid to late 20s with cancer.
The water was warmer than the air temperature. Not surprising for lakes during the winter. I'm glad no one from my company took a picture of me wearing the embarrassingly ridiculous swim cap. ^_^
On my way to visit friends in central Vermont. Hope everyone has a great day and even better weekend.

Penguin Plunge
Posted 13 years agoI will be participating in the Penguin Plunge tomorrow with 31 of my coworkers including two of the company owner's sons (they are hot eye candy). I like contributing to a worthy cause.
I have not done this since freshman year in high school and I am little nervous. I know it is mind over matter and I am psyching myself out. I know I can do this. One of my customers today, after hearing I was going to do this, said I am brave. I am starting to think maybe it's a little foolhardy. There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity.
You can be brave by having courage to try something new and or have the result of looking foolish.

From what I saw of my friends video of the location, I think this will be a good con. Hotel is $89 and Registration is $40. I would suggest to go check it out. From what I heard, they have great people on staff.
They are looking for more artists, events, and panelists if you're interested in contributing!
