Charity art auction
Posted 16 years agoI'm auctioning off some commissions for charity, and I'm not the only one. If you're interested in getting some work done by me AND putting some money towards a good cause, read the following. I'm offering a full color single character (or more if the bidding gets high enough), and two sets of chibi commissions (ten and twenty, also with more if the bidding gets high).
<a href="http://mottenfest.deviantart.com/ar.....03">As Mottenfest and Blotch put it</a>;
<I>
I suspect most of you have heard, but for those who haven't, over 50 terrible wildfires have recently swept through Victoria, Australia. The fires have destroyed over 440,000 hectares of property, with over 700 homes lost, more than 60 people in critical condition in hospital and 181 confirmed deaths (as of a few days ago). Officials are predicting the death toll to rise to as high as 300 people by the end of the week, making this one of the worst disasters in Australia's history.
The chairman and folks who help put together MidFur (Australia's largest furry convention) and the Australian Furry Association are holding several charity auctions, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal at the auctions' close. A whole lot of different artists have donated artwork and commissions, and I urge you if you're able, to consider bidding!
Check out the individual auctions offered by many talented artists, here: http://www.ausfa.org/auction/index.php
I have donated an auction for a full color one or two character commission, adult or general. The winner will also receive the original artwork by mail, at no additional cost.
The bidding will take place over the AUSFA Forums, specifically set up for this event. Here's instructions on how to bid, but essentially you register on the AUSFA forums, and leave a post on the specific auction you are interested in with your bid amount and name. Bidding ends in 5 days, and remember, ALL BIDS ARE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. Payment after the auctions end can be made by PayPal or direct deposit, (details for which will be sent to the winners) and all proceeds are donated immediately to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.
Any questions about the auction the forums can't answer, you can email: AUSFA[at]ausfa.org
So, if you're interested and able, I urge you to bid! Do a little good, get something back, and having a fancy charitable tax write-off for next year!</I>
For info on how to bid, check http://www.ausfa.org/auction/viewto.....hp?f=7&t=9
Trades please?
Posted 16 years agoI wanna do some art trades. I've found that the more work i have on my plate, the faster I am about getting owed art done, and i figure the best way is to get on doing stuff for other people.
SO. I have no problem doing my half first, especially if i've had art dealings with you before (commissioned, etc.)
I'll do anything but loli/cub and scat. I'm nervous about guro but i need to practice drawing violent stuff if i ever want to make decent versions of some of my nastier characters.
Since i tend not to get a lot of journal comments, even on offers of free art, i suppose i won't put a limit on how many i'll do :P

Professional vs. hobby artists
Posted 17 years agoThe product of a wandering mind still working through coffee follows:
I've been noticing a few well-articulated postings by artists who are bothered by the fact that fans and customers don't seem to understand that the artwork they do is their livelihood. This is a very valid concern, of course. Even in Japan, a comic artist gets shit pay compared to the total amount of actual work they do on a given issue of a comic, especially considering the total sales and profit the publisher makes. Artists whose work winds up being made into an anime are lucky if they see even minor royalties; the creator of Sailor Moon was famously screwed over with the anime adaptation of her work.
But for me, art is a hobby. I have a day job, as unconventional as it is, and on the few occasions i've been paid for work, i was more than happy to charge little more than the cost of the materials due to mainly the fact that it's supplemental (and also since I don't believe my art is of a professional grade in the first place).
That said, I'm always open to commissions. See http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/500049/ for prices.

Primary fursona
Posted 17 years agoLike some folks on here, I'm hard pressed to come up with a character that is "me"; there's always some aspects of my personality I can't fully express with one character or another, and there' some things i like to emphasize more at times. That said, I've decided that, for the time being, I'm going to move Ferris the rust monster forward as my primary character and avatar of myself. Expect to see more of him in the near future :3
Help an Artist Friend!
Posted 17 years agoRensis-- AKA Mottenfest --is in a bad situation right now, financially speaking. You can find more information on how to help at http://mottenfest.deviantart.com/journal/22038913/
He was one of the first artists I knew online to be decent and even friendly to me, despite him having a long history of people being complete dicks. The fella has built up a major reservoir of good karma, so any way you can help-- commissions, buying his extra stuff, donations --would go a long way towards restoring universal balance.
He's also super-cute. People like to help super-cute things, right? Save the Rensis :0
If you were thinking of giving me something for the holidays or commissioning me, please consider donating to him, instead.

No new art for a while- computer problems
Posted 17 years agoMy desktop, Checkers, is getting steadily worse in terms of active memory problems; issues of both age and the low starting RAM seem to be catching up with the little frankenstein 'puter. I was already looking into getting more RAM for a combined belated b-day present and hanukkah gift, so hopefully some overall improvements will get things up and running again.
Unfortunately, I can't say how long it'll be until certain owed art will turn up, due to this. Although I do traditional work, digital cleanup is a major part of the process, and unless I can get to a friend's place for the time it would take, nothing's coming.

Mythical animal anthros?
Posted 17 years agoThere's plenty of dragons, and a few phoenixes, pegasi, and unicorns (and winged phoenix unicorns) here and there, and all kinds of hybrids...
but what about other mythical or fantasy animals? Does anybody have an anthro cockatrice or cerebus? I know a couple people have kilins or chimeras....

Commissions under $5!
Posted 17 years agoI'm gonna have to start paying off student loans soon, so pretty much all my meager income is going to that. The less i have to spend out of that on bus far and snacks, the better. So, I'm dropping my commission rates even lower. I take Paypal, as well as check or money order by mail.
Single character full-body sketch: Seventy-five cents (plus or minus .25 for complexity)
Single character full-body inked with monochrome color: $1.50
Single character full-body full color: $2.00
Additional character (sketched or inked w/ monochrome): Fifty cents
Additional full-color character: $1.00
Prices are negotiable based on complexity. I am open to drawing nearly anything, feel free to comment here or note me.
Sketched examples:

I will put more effort into commissioned work than i will for stuff I do for myself, so anything you receive will be noticeably better than my usual work.

Warcraft
Posted 17 years agoSo, i've been playing WoW.
For money.
My part-time job as a sort gaming consultant/misc intern includes giving tutorials and assistance with WoW and Second Life. Problem is, doing it for money makes it kind of boring and tedious... and it's hard to tell if that's just because it's as a job, or if it just doesn't satisfy want i'm looking for in a game.
That said, I managed to get a wolpertinger pet for my troll priest :3

Give me your strange, your weird, your awesome places.
Posted 17 years agoI've started up a new blog to track all the places I should, might, and must visit during the cross-country road trip I've been planning to make as long as I've been aware that I could possibly get a license to drive. Check it out and make some suggestions!

I give you a mission
Posted 17 years agoGo out and find three artists on FA who you are not currently watching, and watch the heck out of them! Favorite their awesome illustrations/stories/whathaveyou, leave friendly comments, and such. Do it by browsing new uploads, looking through the favorites of other artists you like, or whatever other method you can come up with.
Then post something to this effect in your own journal for all the lovely folks who watch you :D

Need dino images
Posted 17 years agoI need some good, attractive images of a few dino species. I'm fine with just being pointed existing work, but if someone is looking to draw non-anthro dinosaurs, that's cool, too.
I'm looking for the following genera and species-
Caudipteryx, preferably a very ornate-looking one.
Dilong paradoxus
Mamenchisaurus, any species
Microraptor gui, really showing off both pairs of "wings" if possible.
Omeisaurus, any species
Psittacosaurus, preferably the P. sibiricus species with the quills.
Shunosaurus, either species
Sinosauropteryx
Tsintaosaurus spinorhinus
Velociraptor mongoliensis, as realistic as possible! No Jurassic Park-style horse-sized raptors.
Yangchuanosaurus, either species
This would be for my D&D game, so i'm especially looking for illustrations that make them look freaking incredible. Anything that seems almost like a dragon is a plus :3

SHUT UP ABOUT PORN!
Posted 17 years agoOh my heathen gods, have any of the people complaining actually bothered to check? Explicitly pornographic content makes up less than a third of the average uploads if you're sane enough to recognize that a nude figure isn't necessarily porn.
You know what? I like porn. I'm a horny pervert, and I've had days where I had to go to other websites because not enough porn was being uploaded on FA. You wanna complain about there being too much of something, complain about something that is actually common!

Do you take commissions?
Posted 17 years agoI'm looking to commission an artist or two for some work. Since I'm watching and am being watched by an awful lot of artists, I figured posting this might be better than going through ever single one of you to check prices and availability.
I'm looking for someone to do finished pieces (pencils is okay if it looks finished), $20.00 USD and lower if possible.

Questions about your fursona
Posted 17 years agoFor everyone watching me with a fursona-- or a favorite anthro character they've made --what led you to decide on that fursona?
Did you already know about the animal, and felt that it was an appropriate choice for your avatar/character based on personality and other characteristics?
Did you find it appealing but didn't really know that much about it at first?
Have you learned more about the animal you chose since you developed this fursona/character?
Did you ever change your mind about using a particular animal because of a characteristic it has that you later learned about?
I find it strange that so many anthro artists are so fond of red foxes; while they are indeed lovely animals, I always found their temperament disturbing, and I personally consider their tendency towards killing animals that they don't eat to be murderous. I recently had a prolonged argument on DA with some other artists who attacked me for taking this position, despite the fact that I was able to cite published, peer-reviewed research as references for my position, and their responses were almost entirely unsupported by evidence and clearly emotional.

Posted 17 years agoI'm inspired to do a set of drawings or characters based around the five Discordian elements, but am unsure precisely what to draw- humans, anthros, giant robots, some mixture of all of the above...?
For those of you who I haven't been exposing to the ludicrousness that is my religion over IMs, the elements are:
Sweet (associated with the season of Chaos and the apostle Hung Mung)
Boom (associated with the season of Discord and the apostle Dr. Van Van Mojo)
Pungent (associated with the season of Confusion and the apostle Sri Syadasti Syadavaktavya Syadasti Syannasti Syadasti Cavaktavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavatavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavaktavyasca)
Prickle (associated with the season of Bureaucracy and the apostle Zarathud)
Orange (associated with the season of the Aftermath and the apostle the Elder Malaclypse)

DIPLOMA GET!
Posted 17 years agoOh hai. I has diploma.
Also mini diploma, for carrying in the wallet. It's a brilliant little thing, very handy for job applications. Granted, I just wrapped up one job on campus, and will be starting another on the 18th...
...where I will basically be paid to do stuff on Second Life and WoW.

About upcoming/owed art.
Posted 17 years agoI'm still offering free request to all my watchers, but i can't guarantee when I'll get to them, it may take some time. In all honesty, there's some folks who watch me who i'd rather NOT do drawings for; but if i ever want to create professionally (although i'd rather be paid to write than draw), i have to be willing to work for or with people i might really dislike. That said, one thing: if you are on this list and do not reply to this message, you will be passed over automatically and may not have your request sketched. I've no patience for so-called fans who are only here to collect free requests and never comment on anything else i submit.

Posted 17 years agoI'm really feeling like I'm on Mars today.
The problem with me and my father isn't emotional or physical abuse, distance, lack of love, any of those millions of issues that get brought up in the sympathetic backgrounds of TV and movie characters.
It's that our brains work differently. I can't ask a direct question of him about some vague instructions he's just given me without receiving a sarcastic response, because he can't comprehend that i am genuinely confused by his instructions and perceives my response as laziness or my own sarcasm. We get into arguments because i won't understand one word he says, and he feels that i'm focusing on minutiae and not paying attention to the whole: meanwhile, i can't comprehend the whole without understanding the parts. I didn't like something he cooked today, and when he spoke aloud saying that <i>he</i> liked it, i responded with the perfectly reasonable statement that he and i have different tastes, by way of agreement. He took offense to this, and he and my brother began questioning why i said that; it became apparent that he only intended to speak to my brother, and for some reason i wasn't allowed to be involved in the conversation. There was more nonsense to it, but i can't even make proper sense of it.
Or, you know... what passes for proper sense with my brain function.
It's not that he's a bad father, no matter what some folks who are probably reading this might think.
It's just that he's neurotypical, and refuses to believe that i have AS, because he thinks he knows what all autistic spectrum disorders look like.
and here i wondered why i was so fond of Data as a character, growing up.
In other not-so-news, people on the bus are jackasses. I'm the only person under fifty i've ever seen give up a seat for another passenger-- especially elderly or disabled passengers, about whom there are posted signs requesting you do specifically that --on the #5 or #6 bus in FIVE YEARS.
...and despite it all, there's the part of me that wants what's best for these people. I don't want to see them hurt, and would take a knife for them, even the bratty Catholic schoolgirls texting and whining from the foremost seats.

Son of free requests, & my internets
Posted 17 years agoThe ISP at home has yet to re-set FA's DNS since the move, or whatever the explanation is; basically, I can't connect to Fur Affinity from home because my internet provider is pointing to a server that doesn't exist anymore instead of the new one associated with the furaffinity.net domain. In other words, I don't know when I'm gonna be able to connect to FA from anywhere other than work, which means no NSFW images will receive comments, and i won't be posting any such images....
