Novel Project: Undercurrent
General | Posted 13 years agoI am now working full time on the novel Undercurrent (officially untitled; this is a working title I may or may not ultimately use), a dark fantasy/horror/adventure story. I am seeking beta-readers for the prologue and chapter one, and more as I refine the drafts. Although I have written for over fifteen years, this will be my first serious attempt at publishing, and I will need all the feedback I can get.
I have posted an excerpt from this story here. Take a look, and if you like what you see and are interested in concritting complete chapters, drop me a note and let me know.

Updated DeviantArt
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter much neglect, I've updated my DeviantArt - http://lunaticmoth.deviantart.com/
There's a lot more there than here, because I tend to limit what I put on FA to fantasy creature/animal themed subjects. You'll find more (still mostly fantasy) short stories, flash fiction, and bad poetry there.
I don't have many watchers, yet, either on here or DA, but I hope to have more material to put up in the near future.

Don't Kill the Messenger
General | Posted 13 years agoThere's a really irritating trend on art sites, when people don't like the content in a particular submission, of hating all over the artist about a COMMISSIONED piece of artwork.
Calling the artist "sick" and pointedly telling them you are unwatching them and screaming "ugh what the fuck" at them in comments is stupid. First of all, people who do art for a living are making a living. To an extent, they are slaves to what their commissioners want. Yes, they could choose to reject certain types of content, and many of them do, but every time you do that, your pool of potential commissioners gets smaller, and it's just not an option for some people who have rent/a mortgage to pay.
Secondly, you are free to unwatch people. If you're a mature adult, you do so quietly. If you make a POINT about publicly telling the artist you're unwatching them because something they drew offended you, or worse, complain to the management because you don't like the exact way the artist handled their commissions (they don't answer you immediately after you note them with a complaint, they don't put a vague enough thumbnail or a scary enough warning on hard vore, they draw too many pictures of pooping elephants and that's all you see when you search for "elephant" on the front page), you're no longer acting like an adult. You're just whining in public. You're That Guy who starts yelling at the cashier in a grocery store checkout line because Oh My God, they're out of quarters and are trying to give change in dimes, and you aren't budging until someone gets you change in quarters. No one cares about your petty sensibilities and more importantly, you're holding things up making everyone else wait for you to be dealt with. Stop being a little brat and move on.
Finally, once again remember that the COMMISSIONER is responsible for the content of the art you don't like. And if more people wanted PLEASANT art with butterflies and songbirds, most artists, even porn artists, would go for that and make money off of that. Unfortunately, the fact is that people with strange fetishes tend to commission more and are willing to pay more for their commissions than people who want frou-frou, largely because they know what they want is unpopular and many artists won't do it. That leaves artists who need commissions to pay the bills with little choice but to take the really awful stuff or risk going without health care, or phone service, or good food, or electricity, or worse.
So the next time you see an artist take a commission you think is utterly repulsive, instead of yelling at the artist for drawing it, think about maybe encouraging people who DO want happy colorful not at all objectionable art to consider paying more for it than they already do, and maybe up the frequency of their commission requests to people who draw a lot of weird stuff. Or here's an idea: contribute! Why don't YOU commission the artist to draw something NICE? You'll take up a slot that would likely have been filled by a weirdo.
When the "vanilla" commissions start to outweigh the OMGWTFBBQ commissions, chances are that artist who drew that thing you hate will stop drawing it so much.

Free Time
General | Posted 14 years agoNo job = way more free time than I know what to do with.
I don't post here often, because I'm not a visual artist and there's not a lot I care to say to the Internet as a whole. I have a handful of people who've watched me for some reason. Of those people, does anyone read stories-that-are-not-porn? This can include stories that have sex in them, but the sex is not the focal point of the story.

The single worst news headline ever?
General | Posted 15 years ago*falls over laughing* Some part of me wants to believe that this COULDN'T have been unintentional.
Sadly, I think it was.
"A furry dilemma: Sleep with your pet, risk catching his bugs."
As seen on CNN. Oh, CNN. You will never fail to amuse the public with your blunders.
(The story is actually about catching fleas and mites and whatnot from letting your pets curl up next to you at night.)

Fursona meme thing.
General | Posted 16 years agoFURSONA MEME:
For the purposes of this meme I'm using my Pumacal character, as my moth-lady character is really just me with antennae.
1 - Do you and your "fursona" look alike?
Somewhat. I usually have long hair, and by definition my character's fur is short. However, she does have long ears, so maybe that counts. Colorwise we're nothing alike.
2 - Do you and your fursona share attires?
She's usually naked. I'm not.
3 - Do you share the same sexuality as your fursona?
Yes! We both have an affinity for Hyenas and Lynxes. And Badgers.
4 - If you hadn’t already made your fursona look like you, if you would to change how he/she looked like to make him/her look more like you, how would you think he/she would look like?
I...why would I want her to look more like me? She's there to be sexy.
5 - Did you work hard to develop your fursona? What is the (brief) history of your fursona?
I think my badger worked harder than I did. There are several versions of this character, two of which are pumas proper. But the idea of a pumacal was just too good to pass up.
6 - Do you and your fursona share relationship status?
Not really, I don't think. Hers changes a lot, though.
7 - Do you find yourself jealous or upset if you get paired with someone you don’t like or your partner does?
Do I get paid?
8 - How would you like your character not to be used?
I wouldn't want to see any hardcore vore with her. It would just be out of place.
9 - What’s your fursona’s specialty?
Being sexy. I don't know, I don't have much of a personality for her, yet.
10 - At a score of 1-10 how much are you and your fursona alike?
5. Like I said, I don't know her personality quite yet.

Wondering
General | Posted 16 years agoI keep thinking I should try to draw again. I should make more music. I should write more (I have been doing that, at least).

Holidays
General | Posted 17 years agoSo I know not that many people watch me, as I'm more of a lurker than a participator, but for what it's worth, I hope everyone has a very happy holidays and new year! Give aggro badger CANDY. He likes it. ^_~
Hot-loving polecats do it in prarie dog holes!

This is pretty spectacularly funny. An essay on black-footed ferrets winds up in a smutty romance novel:

Not that anyone reads my FA journal. There's nothing there.
General | Posted 18 years agoSo, this is the stupidest thing ever, but since I don't really produce art, and am jealous of all the attention
aggro_badger is getting, I might as well offer what meager pickings I can:
Give me two characters, or at least two animals. If you give me a character, tell me about the character. Don't OVERWHELM me with information, but give me an idea.
Then give me $5. I will write a story about them for you.
It will probably be a short one-shot story that has nothing to do with any great big epic tale you have mapped out already for them, but it will be a good story. I like to pretend I'm a better writer than most people, and that I make up better stories than most people. Maybe you will agree!
If by some bizarre chance this actually works, I'll create more detailed commission information for general reference.
Message me if you're interested.

General | Posted 18 years agoRight now I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this account, if anything. At some point I may post stories and music of some sort. I don't draw worth a yank, but maybe some doodles, too.
More later, when I figure out what I'm doing.
