Not to get into too many details, life is a struggle, and I've been…busy, I guess.
Work has been trying to kill me, quite literally—and nearly succeeded more than once—and I haven't had time nor energy for anything even remotely social, not even checking FA, for almost ten years now.
That's it, that's the low down, I've spent what little energy left over from managing chronic pain on my employer.
That said I do miss all y'all. I want to reconnect with all my friends in the fandom again. Not entirely sure how to do that—telegram nuked my account and I'd rather not get another one—but I figured maybe posting something here is a good first step.
Who knows, maybe a friend or two sees it.

It's cute when people think that SOPA / PIPA has anything to do with stopping the "problem" that is online piracy.
There has been several studies on the subject of piracy, and they universally* show that if piracy has any effect on sales at all, it is an increase in sales. Basically it acts as free advertisement.
Their problem with modern technology is its accessibility.
Anyone can become a producer for very little money, thanks to the ever increasing power in personal computers. Today you can fit virtually everything you need to make music in a backpack. Anyone, anywhere can create anything, for cheap. Technological advances in video cameras have led to even having motion picture production being a thing for hobbyist and professional alike.But people made independent productions 20 and 30 years ago too, so what changed?
The internet.
Thanks to increasing availability and bandwidth allocated to the common man, you cannot only produce anything, anywhere, you can also distribute it, to anyone and everyone, instantly. No longer do you have to sign contracts with distributors to have your latest songs and films available to the masses. You just hop onto YouTube and click Upload and your content is available to millions of people within minutes, for free no less.
Their problem isn't with John Doe downloading the latest Hollywood movie, it's with people like those who operate TWiT and Revision3. Original content creators who don't do things according to the old ways, who don't go through the "proper" channels to release their content.
John Doe will tell his friend Bob Johnson about the latest and greatest pirated movie and probably end up watching it together over a massive overpriced (albeit delicious) tub of popcorn. However, you and I, who might not care about the latest and greatest Hollywood feature film, we'll be enjoying original content from our favourite content provider. A content provider that is hitting the entertainment industry where it really hurts.
There are only so many hours on a day, and it's all about how we choose to spend them. The more hours you spend watching original independent content online, the less you'll be spending it enjoying this weeks pop hits on the radio.
It's not the pirates, the consumers, they want to get rid of. It's the people who provide alternative sources for entertainment.

I don't usually do these, because I don't want to promise things I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to keep.
1) Money: Acquire a steady source of income (not necessarily employment).
2) Film: Direct and produce at least one short film of ten-fifteen minuets, regardless of quality and publish it somewhere.
3) Photography: Shoot on average at least one roll of 120 per month, preferably two (considering I shot a total of three rolls during 2011 that might be stretching it).
4) 'cello: Learn to play something, anything. Melody, scales, anything.
5) Residence: Move the servers out of the bedroom. Also redecorate and paint the bedroom (moving out would be optimal, but I try to be realistic).
