Commission Rules/Terms of Service
Posted 14 years agoCommission Rules/Terms of Service
Updated 11/2024
Before we discuss your commission any further, please take a moment to read all of this very carefully – sending payment means you acknowledge and accept these terms.
Rule Number 1: Subject Matter
The most important point regarding your commission is what you’re having me draw. I like to make character art mainly, typically centered around subject matter I enjoy drawing (nature and fantasy mostly), with emphasis on artistic nudity. My gallery is populated by faeries, elves, bellydancers, pretty ladies in lingerie, and lots of happily naked or nature-clad creatures from the faerietale world. Swords, sorcery, dragons, dryads, angels, mermaids, unicorns, and yep, even little ponies - these are my favorite things to draw, and I'm always delighted to show you what your character would look like transformed into a magical being (if they aren't one already!). I also enjoy scenery practice, both exterior and interior, and some clothing design. Again, in Fantasy themes. Play to my strengths and the work you get from me will be my best!
As a general rule, I don't draw anything modern - be it clothing, vehicles, buildings etc. Basically, if it wouldn't fit a medieval fantasy or faerietale setting, it doesn't interest me and my heart will not be in the work.
Clothing is usually where this rule comes into play, and I'm pretty picky about it (I usually just prefer to not draw it at all, if I may be honest. lol) If you're unsure about an outfit run it by me. I may say no but I may also offer an alternative. I do my best work when I'm excited about what I'm drawing so this isn't done to exclude anyone or be a stick in the mud, it's just a way to ensure I'm always putting out my best work for my commissioners.
The one exception to my rule regarding modern styles of clothing is lingerie and burlesque attire. I will also accept some historical attire (moreso women’s) if I’m feeling up to it and good refs are provided.
Things I absolutely will not draw or include in my work: Scat, Watersports, Vore, Size play, Hyper, Inflation, Cub, Incest, Macro, anthro/feral pairings, feral nsfw, and probably a few other fetishes I'm forgetting. I also really hate drawing buttholes so if you like them front and center I'm probably not the artist for you. :p
Things I'm okay drawing but get asked about a lot: Herms, Pregnancy (as long as it's not done in a fetishy way), light bondage (nothing painful), and raunchy sex between consenting adults of all genders.
If you're unsure about something else, ask.
Rule Number 2: Payment
The money I make from commissions pays my bills, this is my full time job. Full payment is expected up front. All payments are taken via Paypal as USD. Once I send you the invoice, you have two days to either send payment or notify me of a change in plans. I understand that sometimes transfers take longer than expected, I just ask that you keep me updated and informed. If two days pass and I haven't received payment or any communication from you, you will forfeit the slot and I will relist it. It may or may not get snatched up before you come back and realize it's not reserved for you anymore, so its beneficial to you to pay attention and not disappear for days after you ask for a slot.
I don't hold or reserve slots before my commissions are open, as a general rule, though I do sometimes make exceptions for commissioners I trust, usually ones I've worked with many times before.
If you change your mind and decide not to get the slot, or can't because of an emergency, that's fine, but again, communication is appreciated! Life happens, but it only takes a few minutes to send me a note letting me know what's going on.
Rule Number 3: References
A good ref sheet is crucial if you want me to draw your character accurately. I generally prefer a professional ref sheet (if you don’t have one, I offer them as a commission option!) but if all you have are a few images, those will work too, provided they are full color and all necessary markings can be seen. If you have a written description only, I may still cut you some slack and draw for you anyway, but in return your character better be *really* simple, otherwise you don't get to complain if I don't get everything exactly 100% perfect! ;) Please note that SecondLife screenshots are not my favorite thing to work with, so if you use them, try to make them as clear as possible. No crazy lighting or special effects, or poses that make it hard to see markings.
Rule number 4: Turnover Rate
I work extremely fast! I have a very tight schedule and I stick to it, so when I say a piece will be done within the month, I mean it. ;) I usually start with whoever is at the top of the queue first and work my way down, but sometimes I work out of order if I'm more in the mood to draw a different subject that day. Each piece is completed in about 3-6 hours, sometimes in one setting, sometimes not. If you'd like to see WIP's of your piece, I share these with my Patrons on a Discord server. A monthly pledge of $5 gets you in - www.Patreon.com/LuthienNightwolf
Rule number 5: Sketch Approvals
As of November 2024, I will no longer be offering an approval stage for any commission (some rare exceptions may apply and if needed we will decide that while discussing your commission). This interrupts my work flow and invites unnecessary requests for minor nitpicks on something that isn’t even finished yet. If you aren’t comfortable trusting me to complete the work without assistance I understand, you may choose a different artist. :)
Rule number 6: Customer Satisfaction
My perfectionism and attention to detail mean I rarely make grievous mistakes on art, but I am human and it is possible. In the unlikely event I’ve missed something, I can’t attempt a fix if you don’t let me know. Please be nice about it.
Remember though, I’m a traditional artist, so I will have limitations on what I can and can't fix. I work with markers and colored pencils, neither of which erase. Sometimes color matching is difficult, particularly with very pale colors or complex markings involving subtle gradients. Characters are often not designed with traditional artists in mind. I do my best but I’m not the eyedropper tool, my version of your character may not be the same on paper as what’s on a screen.
In the rare and frankly unlikely event that the piece is completely ruined or I've totally messed up, and the fault is actually mine, I will either attempt the necessary fixes, or I'll offer you your next piece at a discount. I will not give refunds, as some people try to abuse this to get free art. If the mistake is not my fault, however, (due to improper/unclear references given or last minute changes of heart) I will not redo the piece or give discounts. It will be between you and I to discuss our best options at this point, and this will be done on a case by case basis.
Rule number 8: Reposting
If you commission me, you absolutely have my permission to repost the art I create for you wherever you like - I do kindly ask that you put some kind of credit in there though somewhere, so that others can find me. :) If you are NOT the commissioner or the intended recipient of the art, and you'd like to repost something you see in my gallery (such as on group pages on FA, Facebook, or the dreaded E621), please ask my permission first, as well as the person who owns the characters in the image - its just a common courtesy for everyone involved.
I realize this request will likely be ignored by the vast majority of people, and that is why I only upload low-res images. This cuts down the risk of companies stealing my art and using it for tshirts and things of that nature. (Yes, they can still do it, but it's going to look like crap.) If you want, I will give you a high-res for your own PERSONAL use, but please refrain from posting that, as it keeps my art, and your characters, from being stolen and plastered all over some knock-off company's cheaply made products.
In return, I also reserve the right to repost any art that contains my characters, whether it was commissioned by/for me or not. Please keep this in mind if someone approaches you and asks you to include one of my characters in a piece they are buying from you - if you have a problem with me reposting, kindly decline to include my character.

Regarding the Sale of Prints
Normally, I don't sell prints of any artwork that was commissioned by someone else. If you are interested in getting a print of someone else's commission, I will only make one for you if you have that person's permission. NEVER, under any circumstance, may you sell prints of the work I've done for you...the character is yours, but the artwork is still copyrighted to me. You can give it away as gifts all you want though.
Usage of my characters
If you'd like to include my characters in any art (whether it's commissioned pieces or gifts), please ask me first. I have rules for each one of them regarding what kind of art they can appear in and who they can be paired up with, if at all. You can find the link to a full list of my current characters on my profile page.
Want me to draw your character with one of mine? I'd love to! Again, barring a few rules specific to each character, I will happily draw our characters interacting in a commission. You may even help me flesh out their story a bit!
