Like, a tiered auction for a purely digital image stating "if it gets to $X, I'll boost the image to 300 dpi."

... DPI is device-dependant, idjit... A 17" PC screen at 1920x1080 is always, always roughly 135 dpi, a 19" at same resolution is 120 dpi, and my phone is over 450 dpi.

When viewing the same picture, different, big, small, whatever.

The only case when dpi really matters is scanning or printing.

Scanning a 4"x3" image @ 150 will give you a 600x450 raster, while @ 300 it will be, guess, 1200x900.

Now printing a 1200x900 image saved at 150 dpi without tweaking will give you a 150 dpi printout of 8"x6". Boosting the dpi to 300 on the same image will result in a twice as sharp, half the size printout (no matter whether it is saved at 300 or only printed).

Resampling the image will change its size/resolution. But resampling it to twice the linear size with twice the density won't really cause any print quality improvement, either. Granted, there are different filters which will smooth it, but guess what? Every single printing system these days implements them, too, unless you specifically tell it not to.

Ok, folks, I am feeing crazy, so here goes:

Looking for unusual characters to have fun with. And unusual can be anything... Twisted, eldritch, creepy, fugly, freaky, alien, just definitely not your average cute humanoid or "taur", that's for sure.

Gonna run until I have enough to choose from. Maybe fifty or so.

Or at least, untilI have five I really (dis-)like.

For those who have no such characters themselves, you may invite a friend. If they mention you invited them and they win, you'll get a prize, too.

So rules are simple:

1) Check me ottah refs and rules;

2) Post your references;

3) Include an idea of what you'd like drawn (no promises, I might get my own ideas);

4) (Optionally) mention who invited you;

5) (Optionally) link an artist who you think does it well (not insanely expensive and with relatively fast turnaround). Again, no promises, but I'll consider that.

I will keep a list of this craziness with a rating of how much I'm intrigued by each character. If you don't get any points, don't get sad, it just means you likely have higher chances with a less batshit girl ;)

Ok, one more thing I think should be added there. Try to mention at least one thing about these species that makes them special. Is it just their colors, or do they have any interesting traits?

Ok, to clear some confusion.

What I am looking for is a bunch of species to pick from -- so my eye will be likely towards fancy and/or exotic in the first place.

It is not just one species for each letter. I actually expect to have a bunch to choose from.

It is not one per person, either.

And character references are not /quite/ what I am looking for right now -- though feel free to post them under the species. It is often more fun if it's /someone/, not just a generic yeti :)

So here it is:

Give me different species on each letter of the alphabet. I'll consider getting art with them. If you have a character of them, you may post the ref, too. No promises on which species or characters I will use.

HUGE preference to natural/traditional myth species (i.e., movies/games critters like pokemon are much less likely to get picked, and if too many of them will get posted, I'll become annoyed), though if something catches my fancy, I will def grab it regardless.

Rules:

1) NOT limited to one species per letter.

2) If the species you might wanna ref are already posted, reply to the first post, not to the letter.

3) Does NOT have to be an existing character. Just species you would like to see, species there isn't enough art of, whatever.
