snow insainty...
General | Posted 16 years agoFor those not in my local area, I live near Pittsburgh PA and I drive across the city daily to work. The trip is not so bad because I work a late shift and miss all of the 'rush hour' traffic that happens on weekdays.
Ok, I think snow is pretty to look at... but not at all fun to drive in. Where I work, they didn't offer to let ANYONE go home early Friday 2/05. So, by the time I got to leave, my trip home took about 4 hours insted of the normal 35 minutes. I had planned to get a few last minute supplies at WalMart as I had to drive by Robinsin Town Center. However, when I saw the SUV blocking the exit ramp, sideways, I decided that little Grand Am would not get up the hill. I figured that I may make it to Giant Eagle at home... maybe. I kept going. I had to sit in traffic for a really long time due to 'Accident at milemarker 55.8" (I think that was the number) that blocked all lanes. It was just after the Carnegie exit going toward the city. There was still snow laying all over the road and lots of people who obviously didn't know how to drive at all in it. Many cars were just sitting there spinning their tires after stopping. They looked like they didn't understand to put the car in low gear and tap the gas gently. While I was sitting in the barely moving traffic I got a phone call from a co-worker. She let me know that she was a few cars behind me in the other lane. My lane apparently moved more than hers so when I saw anything to help her out, I called to let her know once I was stopped again and not trying to drive.
After the accident that finally got cleared up, I continued through the city at a pace of about 20-25 MPH. Some people in trucks and SUVs were driving by faster but the last thing I wanted was to start sliding or something and be going too fast. So, I took it slow and careful only speeding up to about 35-40 inside the 2 tunnels where there was no snow to slide on.
When I got almost to the Fort Pit tunnel, I saw that the hillside leading up out of the city going South was just packed with cars and trucks mostly sideways and not moving. When I got near the Oakland exit, I was also happy Jon was not working becuause the ramp there also looked like a bunch of parked cars. There were lots of people pulled over and not moving between the city and Squirrel Hill Tunnels. I kept going slowly and got through. After the tunnel, the roads got progressively worse. When I got to my exit, I could not get off due to the snow. I went straight down 22 and found another road to turn around on. I never got to Giant Eagle at all. I am sure it was closed by that time.
Once almost home, I got stuck breifly turning at the traffic light to Gateway High School. After I dug my front tires out with my snow scraper and got going, I could not see a parking space to get into at home. I attempted to get into another lot on our complex and could not get up the little hill. I got stuck. This time worse. I called Jon cause I was literally at the end of our street and Flanowa cause he lives just up the street too for help. Between them and some random really nice guy in a white truck, we got my car turned around and in a safer position. I was parked as close to the curb as I could get pretty much at the McBeth and King Lear intersection. I left my car there for the night. I dropped off the rent check since I was halfway to the office anyway and went home.
Today I went and had to dig out my car so we can get Jon to work tomorrow. We have no snow shovel, I live in an apartment and have not needed one since moving here years ago. I used the dust pan from our broom and a small trash can to move snow away from around and on my car.
This evening, I was able to get my car out of the little hole it was in and go to Sheetz and GetGo for gas and foods. Everything else was pretty much closed. I ended up parking in the lot I tried to get into last night in a space I am pretty sure I will be able to get out of in the morning. I kind of parked angled and facing up a small incline so that when I start the car in the morning, I will be able to back down and then should be able to drive. Pretty much every 'empty' parking space in our complex was filled with snow and I'm glad I could park where I did.
My drive home from work 2/05 was really long and really scary at times. But I made it home and I hope everything melts soon. Now after the stressful driving and digging out my car, I just kind of feel so tired I could sleep all week. (for that reason, please excuse any typing errors today, I am too tired to try to edit)

Art has been created
General | Posted 16 years agoI just did a small badge-sized sketch. I don't think its perfect by any means. However, I'm still going to paint it and scan it and post it when it's ready. Then, later, the person whose character I made will get to have the art. So, I should have it ready in a few days, althought it might be a week before I can scan it.
old photos found
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, I was at my parents house for Christmas today. I found my box of old photos from before having a digital camera. There are many animal photos, including some of the kitties I posted pictures of when they were babies and with their mom before she died. (I miss the mom-kitty, I rescued her.) She has been gone around 10 years now, the 'babies'i have now were born June 20, 1998. Their mom died in the spring of 1999. There are more photos that I didn't even look at today. I plan to scan some when I'm there on Sunday again.
Fire is bad...
General | Posted 16 years agoMy friend
akirashima posted this on his journal but I wanted to help spread the word a bit to help people who need it... I kind of just copy-pasted the ready from AkiraShima's journal.... (You can tell AkiraShima wrote what's below and not me due to the use of words Ma-Lin just doesn't typically say.)
"last night as i lay down to finally go to sleep though i do as i normally do and look through my f-list here to see what others have done. and i noticed something fucked up
http://sunshadow.chipin.com/sunshad.....-fire-expenses
Yeah these guys lost their house and pets to a fire. insurance will rebuild the house after a time but still. This is FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH EPIC SUCK! i have no money what so ever to donate however maybe some of you do and maybe you guys could spread it around a bit more. Losing a house to fire is filled with suck at any time of the year but right now in this cold and shit it is epicly fucked... "

More new things
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, I added some new pictures today. Those from today were all taken with the camera on my cell phone cause i took the pictures at work. I need to start carring my regular digital camera to work instead of the cell phone. It takes much better quality pictures. Also partly because I am running out of memory on the phone. I don't have a memory card for it. The only way I get the pictures off of it and can delete them is by sending them by txt message to my e-mail address and then save them to the computer. Text is not free on my phone plan. So, I want to get the images I have off of there a few per month so I don't get a really high bill and then use it only for emergencies.
Today work was busy and frustrating. Then I finally got to go home. 2 good things happend, they gave us a small $ bonus for the holiday and they gave us all free lunch. (It was catered and quite tasty.) Now the best thing is that in about an hour, it will be Friday. Yay.

New pictures
General | Posted 16 years agoI just added quite a few pictures. I have many more and will add more at another time. I have quite a few pictures from the zoo and many of my pets as well. I will try to post only the best shots I have in any case. If anyone wants to see any particular animals at the Pittsburgh zoo, let me know because I have photos of pretty much all of them. Also... if
Flanowa wants and does not mind, i'll post some photos of him and Kyr and
Akirashima from the WPAFW 2009 Charity Auction.

General | Posted 16 years agoToday is Monday but I'm not at work becuase i had some vacation days to use up before the end of the year. So, I am home. Later I will probably be going to the art supply store with :icon Flanowa: (I used the thing this time) because I found some metallic watercolors at Pat Catans and he does not yet know where that is here so once he sleeps in on his day off we had planned togo out to Pat Catans. Unfortunately, I did not get to sleep in because I had to take my bf to work this morning even though i'm off. I expect Flanowa will probably call me when he is ready to go. Maybe i'll get some new paits or something too.
Learning things
General | Posted 16 years agoThank you to Flanowa who showed me how to do all of the important things here on FA. Now I can look for art and look at my friends art.
