So holy moly, grapes and cannoli, after almost a year (or two, now that I think of it), I'm actually alive and posting a journal. As a result, things have actually gotten much better for me in a lot of ways. Where to begin? I guess I'll just be brief so as to not get lost in thought as I write this as well as bogged down in details.

So after I fell off the proverbial map of the world, I ended up battening down and getting my health in order. Long story short, I finally have my health back in some semblance of normalcy now, so I don't end up figuratively dying from eating anything/everything. It's been a long, rough year, to say the least, but it turned out for the better.

During my absence in the interim, I've been mulling over here and there about what I wanna do with my utauloid/furloid/whateverloid. I'm thinking of reviving it, though when I can actually do that, I'm not entirely sure. I wanna at least think of a way to belt out a redesign first off, followed by trying to draw my own character (as money is unforthcoming due to college and all that fun jazz), so I'm gonna try my hand at drawing. It won't be great starting out, but like it is, it's a start.

So yeah, brief summary and update be brief. I'll be trying my best to play "catch up", but I'm confident I can perservere!

So yeah, I've been gone since May. What happened? Well, a lot, actually.

1. Long story short, my dad got diagnosed with a brain tumor late July - early August. After getting a bunch of legal paperwork done, he went through the operation to get it removed. Thankfully, the mass was later determined to be benign, and so far, he's been acting like his usual self.

2. I recently dropped my gastroenterologist...about 2 or 3 weeks ago, actually. I did so because I recently got the results of a blood test (which was to monitor my azathioprine levels to make sure my liver or whatever wasn't turning into goop), and the results came back concluding that I was in "remission". For reference, this same doctor told me I had Crohn's disease - a disease that makes it hard for me to use the bathroom without any sort of internal bleeding or stomach pain. For me, it was a constant loss of weight and inability to completely vacate my intestines of any waste. So, while I'm sitting on my couch reading this latest blood work result telling me that I'm in remission when I'm still having problems and rapidly losing weight, I decided to schedule an appointment with my local family medical office so that I could figure out what's really ailing me. I'm not completely surprised by the gastroenterologist anymore, since his office stopped calling me and I haven't had the energy to be lied to again from a doctor that doesn't even take anything I say nowadays about my condition seriously.

3. As a result of my dad getting his tumor out, we've been working on cleaning our house and junk. I recently cleaned up most of my room (floor still needs work, but the closet and my new entertainment desk are all snappy and freshly cleaned), and I even bought a new bed, though I'll have to wait for it to come in since it's "on back-order". Oh well, the house is starting to be a little bit more maneuverable now (meaning I can actually walk down the hallways without having to sidle anymore). Now just gotta get the rest of my room cleaned when I get the energy to and I'm golden.

4. Also, I'm back in college now for the semester. Taking two classes (a History and a Communications course) so as to get myself slowly ready for if I can take 3 classes in the spring.

So what does this all mean for my activity here? I won't be able to work on my Utau stuff, so I'm (sadly) putting any work on it on hiatus (again). I may start writing again and posting whatever I feel is good enough up for anyone to read if they're interested. Otherwise, I'll just be ghosting through the next few months without anything uploaded unless I otherwise get the urge to.

Wow, it's been 3 months since my last journal. I'm really terrible at this.

So yeah, been mostly hanging out with friends and just collecting my thoughts and health after the Spring semester still, so most of my medical problems are pretty much non-existent (with the exception of two instances where I was pretty much lifeless and only wanted to consume more sleep).

Other than that, I haven't even really thought about UTAU in a while and, I'll be honest, I've pretty much forgotten how to even remotely do anything of the sort. So depending on whether or not I'll get around to relearning how to use Utau (how to get samples from UTAU, how to mix in Reaper, etc.) is currently up in the air.

On a different note, I'm still redesigning my 'loid. Pretty much how I want his clothes to look, but I haven't really been able to decide on whether to keep him as a wolf or to change his species altogether (I keep flip-flopping because of indecisiveness), so eventually I'll get him from mind to paper and it'll be by my hand. Won't be perfect, since I'm not a really good sketcher or artist, but it'll be a rough platform for when I eventually get a commission done. Again, assuming my memory isn't as frail as a rat in [insert any RPG game here].

Other than that, I've been happily playing Vanguard (we finally got my local hobby shop to do bi-weekly tournaments! It's not much, but it's a start!) and, so far, I've been really loving it! Even got to bust out a Link Joker deck and get 2nd place! :D

Haven't worked on UTAU since my last journal update. Been more focused on working on a workshop piece for English class and digging myself out of my house because of snow. Between that and a loss of energy keeping me from doing much, I probably won't be able to start or work on any UTAU projects until near the end of April.

Life sucks sometimes, but just gotta roll through the punches is all. :|

Will try to be a little more active on FA in terms of UTAU, though. :)

That said, I've decided to drop my previous project. I was spending way too much time on it and getting little work done on it overall. Instead, I will be going back to the 2nd Vocaloid Song Medley cover. I thought about it long and hard and, as much as I wish I could, I can't seem to find the 50+ banks that I'd like to use, so I'm going to follow two rules for this cover:

1. Use furloids only. No offense to anyone who has a non-furloid, of course. Just a personal preference of mine (for now, anyways).

2. Only use banks that I have heard of or users that I know of (aka furloid users on both Soundcloud and here on FA).


After things calm down a bit at home here (which should be this weekend), I'll start working on the cover.

Still floating around FA these days. Haven't really gotten the time to work on another cover due to college. I'm doing a lot better health-wise, though I still do have a small rough patch or two crop up every so often. I'm thinking of taking the spring semester off to wind down from the stress of everything that's happened this semester, so i'll have plenty of time to actually clean around the house here and there as well as working on another cover or two at a leisurely pace. I'm still planning on doing a Vocaloid Song Medley cover, just I haven't had the time to sit down and really get all the furloids I needed for it.

That said, I'll be gone for about a month to finish up a class project as well as focus on final exams, then I'll begin winding down with a copy of Smash on the Wii U and actually playing Bayonetta 1 and 2 for a change.

I'm also gonna save up a bit and commission someone to do some art for Gregory's new look. I haven't yet finalized it, but I've been thinking on his design a bit and I'm definitely liking it so far (even though it's only a few lines of text).

Been dealing with flare-ups a-plenty these past two months (more-so late last month and pretty much all of this month so far). Haven't had the energy to work on any covers or duets or anything, let alone the backlog of overdue work I have for my measly two college classes. I can't enjoy playing video games nowadays and overall I'm just sitting miserably in my chair, constantly sick and unable to do anything about it except pray that these series of flare-ups clear up.

If they do pass and I feel a bit better, I'll try and do a cover or two to show I'm not dead or anything. It's really miserable when you can't enjoy anything because of being sick all the time.

Yep, that's right. In my effort to help newcomers to the Utau scene, I'm going to make a Vocaloid Song Medley cover. However, I only know of whatever FURLOIDs that are on the Utau wikia page. If you have a bank or know of a bank that doesn't get used very often, please leave a link in the comments below so I can use them! There's plenty of space for a lot of banks! I will do my best to find out these banks myself, but I can only do so much as one person! ;^^

After thinking about it long and hard, I have decided to put my Utau on the back-burner for a while. While I do think I've done a pretty fine job on him from my perspective, I feel that he still seems to be lacking something that I just can't figure out. Henceforth, all production on any new VBs for my Utau, Gregory Greenfield, are temporarily halted until sometime in the future where I feel comfortable working on him.

Another thing that I will be doing is redesigning Gregory Greenfield. As much as I love how he looks now, I do not feel that he really stands out as a Furloid, especially considering there is nothing about him (I feel) that really screams "I'M AN UTAULOID". As a result, I will begin plans on a redesign for Gregory Greenfield, which may include a different name/personality/persona/etc. that will help him to stand out.

In the meantime, I will be making covers using other people's Furloids. I will make note of which Furloid I am using and who the owner is in the credits portion of each cover I do from now on.

In regards to my current voice bank, Gregory Greenfield Power Perennial Re;Vival, I will continue to allow it to be downloaded for people to use, if they so choose to. Please note, however, that as of 7/7/2014, all visual aspects of Gregory Greenfield (current artwork and appearance) will be considered out-of-date.

I'm going on a hiatus for an unknown period of time. I feel like I seriously need to re-evaluate why I bother doing anything Utau related when it gets me nowhere.

So for the past two weeks or so, I've been in a sort of cycle of rejoicing and depressing since my semester ended. At first, I was happy that I got done with the semester since I was able to start playing all the video games that I had piled up in a "to play" pile (on a related note, I started playing FFX HD remake and I now am at the point before facing Sin for the first time and I have 4 Celestial weapons fully powered up with another 3 to go before I grind for sphere levels).

However, after this small window of happiness, I realized that I was all alone in my house (since I don't have a license to drive and I'm deathly afraid of being in the driver's seat) and unable to see many of my friends. Although I still talk to them, I don't get to go anywhere since I'm somewhat bound to my house out in the middle of nowhere and unable to go anywhere without getting a ride from my family or whatever friends are able to get me.

Now, all that depressing depress gobbledygook aside, I've been working on and off on a new cover (won't say what it is for now), but this time I'm gonna be tweaking the USTs I'm using manually instead of auto-correcting them. Essentially, this will be my first time experimenting with pitchbending and UST editing. Hope you all look forward to it!

Also, as two additional side notea, I'm still looking for:

1. Someone who is proficient at making MMD models. If you happen to know someone, let me know! :)

2. People who have used the utau growl resampler. I can't seem to get it to work properly, so if you have used it, I'd like to know how you got it to work for you.

So recently I was asked by a friend of mine what kind of short term goals I had planned over the course of the summer. I didn't really answer them since I didn't really have any idea of what kind of goals I would set for myself (since it was kinda out of the blue that they asked me). However, now that I'm sitting a home, I decided on a few things that I want to get done before the summer is over and I go back to classes in the fall. So without further ado...

Makoraias' List of Short-Term Goals for the Summer 2014:

1. Get a new VCV bank recorded for Gregory (probably a Hardcore or a Whisper bank).

2. Finally find out that someone used Gregory in a cover (a duet or solo, either one). :D

3. Record a CV bank of both my bro and my dad (just to start off).

4. Go to Otakon with enough money to throw at the vendors there for marvelous stuff there. :D

5. Finally make a ref sheet for both Grace and William.

6. Get actual voice providers for both Grace and William.

7. Get the 3DS ver. of Super Smash Bros.

8. Go swimming in a pool for the first time in years (haven't swam in like 3+ years).

I originally used Audacity since it was very easy for me to use, but I have since moved to REAPER. It's still a little difficult with using it to mix stuff together, but I still like it none-the-less.

I currently do not make any videos and I doubt I will ever make videos. I used to on my youtube channel, but I decided that since no one really watched them (the most watched one only have like 20 views) and decided to take them all down.

No, I do not. I don't believe I have the skills to produce anything really relevant.

No one, since I don't really listen to UTAU music much these days anymore besides whatever I see on Soundcloud or here on FA.

Not really any particular bank, but basically any bank where the samples are rushed and don't flow together. This goes for any format of a bank - CV, CVC, or CVVC. If it's rushed and doesn't sound right, I won't like it.

I'd easily have to say mine. I don't really often work on my banks since I'm almost always busy with real life stuff or just not feeling motivated to do anything. I just also feel like Gregory is just awkward sounding considering my voice sounds extremely dull and flat compared to the other FURLOIDs.

Now with that out of the way, now that i have a few days to myself since i'm snowed in (like...knee-deep snow with another few inches coming in the next day or so), I'm working again on a new cover. I'm going to be using 3 voices total this cover, as well as make it the first time I'm not actually using my bank at all in this cover.

So hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Went with my family to a nice Victorian-esque hotel for a night and had a wonderful Christmas buffet dinner. Sitting in another hotel for the past two days since we decided to extend our vacation for a few days.

Watched Frozen at the local movie theatre today and it was a very good movie. Animation was crisp and story was solid (at least, to me it was).

In UTAU news, I'm working on another cover (gonna keep it a secret for now). I'm thinking of working on it and (maybe) getting it done before I go away to MAGfest in a week. Also have an idea for something (also gonna keep that a secret :P).

So Christmas is tomorrow. Wow, time sure flies when you're not keeping track of it. Going away for Christmas to spend time with my family (we rarely get the chance since we're all busy most of the year and don't really converse with each other) and will be back around the 27th.

In Utau news, I'm still working on and planning on releasing a new cover for a song before New Year's, so there's that. Going to be working on it in-between my "vacation" with my family and hopefully it'll be up in the next few days. Also, I've decided to indefinitely postpone an English bank since I'll be busy with college this Spring semester. I'll eventually get around to it, but I just need to focus on what's important right now - my studies. That and when my computer lost all my data due to having to rewrite a RAID 0, I kinda lost the inclination to re-record all my lines. Don't worry, it'll happen. I'm just not sure when. That aside, I'll also be going to Magfest January 2nd to 5th. I'll probably get a bunch of stuff and maybe even find an artist there to do a piece for William and Grace so that I can officially have art of them.

Been a while since I made a journal, so...

Now that I'm done with college classes for the semester, I will start up on working on my Utau again. I'll have to learn how Utau works again and figure out how to use Reaper, but I'll get it done in the next few days.

Also, I'm planning on making my own Utau MMD model as I can't really afford to get someone to make one for me. Gonna try using Blender for it and see what I come up with. Not gonna promise it'll be done by summer, but I'll at least have something done.

Finally, I'm getting back into the whole gaming thing again. Started playing Dark Souls and re-playing Skyrim again...assuming my laptop cooperates with me (have had so many problems with it thieves past few months than the other two years I've had it).
