The Definition of Puttering
General | Posted 8 years agoI use the phrase, "I'm just puttering along." quite a bit.
Does nobody know the term 'puttering'? I get a lot of weird looks. When I was younger, it was described to me like a small boat, just moving along, it's little engine puttering to keep it drifting in the right direction. Of course, now I know that the definition is as follows:
Putter:
"occupy oneself in a desultory but pleasant manner, doing a number of small tasks or not concentrating on anything particular."
And y'know, that describes my life pretty well. Just a series of small tasks, but not really concentrating on any one thing in particular. I have model kits, drawing, writing, video games, and I'm not really excellent at any of those things, but I do them because they bring me enjoyment.
So, that's what I'll keep doing. Puttering along. I can't promise when I'll have drawings or writings or anything to post, really, but just know that I'm still puttering.

MFF Recap

Midwest FurFest 2016 was my very first MFF. My main goal: To hand out my new business cards for my writing! People thought they were ads for an escort service.. AS LONG AS THEY TOOK THEM AND VISIT MY SITE.
We came in Thursday, got settled into rooms, hung out. Friday was start of the con and I was amazed by how many people were there. So many fursuiters, a lot of great artists, and tons of cool people, including all my good friends. I roomed with Marjask, one of the most upstanding guys I've ever had the pleasure to know, along with roomies Brock and Keb. Most of our time was spent hanging out with SwiftJames, Padunk, Niis, and Bluey, with guest stars Anjuneko and DJ Nightfire. Great people, all of them.
Most of my time was spent wandering the con. I did get some commissions that I'll be posting shortly from Strype, Sererena, and Caltroplay. Great artists all of them and a pleasure to work with. I had told myself that I wasn't going to get any commissions... but I loved their styles of art too much to pass up.
Special thanks to Marjask for providing some of the best pizza I've ever had in my life. To quote, "Pizza so deep you can drown in it." Also thanks to Bluey for bringing along the Jackbox games, a great and hilarious set of games that are perfect for conventions (as long as you can get wifi).
The trip back was... interesting. We left pretty early on Monday, our flights being around 7pm. We had heard that lines and security were ridiculous, so we all wanted to get into the airport with time to spare. James, Bluey, Niis, Padunk, Anjuneko, and myself all hung out in the airport until individual flights came up. Thing is... there were a lot of canceled flights the day prior thanks to a snowstorm that blew through. Lots of flights were overbooked to accommodate. The first flight we saw, going somewhere else, was offering 120 bucks in travel vouchers to volunteer to take another flight.
Then we saw a flight that was offering 200 dollar travel vouchers... When we got onto our flight safe and sound, an attendant came over the intercom offering 500 dollar travel vouchers! After a while, another lady came back and told James and Padunk they had to get off the plane BECAUSE THEY HAD THE LOWEST FARES. I almost... ALMOST left them to their fate, but when the attendant said they needed one more volunteer, I decided to go with my friends. In return, we EACH got 700 dollar travel vouchers AND a free night at a hotel nearby, as well as some food tokens in the airport. AND I GOT BUMPED UP TO FIRST CLASS. I've never had such a comfortable flight!
Now I'm back home, writing more. Just got done publishing one book and about to publish another short story, so look forward to those on my site https://www.supernaturalromance.com

Now that all that business is aside, yeah, I'll be at MFF, pimping myself out as an erotica writer. I got business cards that will hopefully show up on time and I'll be hanging out with some of my great friends from here in Texas. I'm hoping to have a lot of fun, meet people, play some games, draw, do all that good stuff, and I'll be sure to post a journal about the shenanigans that went on when I get back.

Well, yes and no. I draw once in a blue moon, really rarely, and it's usually just in my sketchbook. Nothing exciting, you're not missing any prime time orca boobs or anything, but it's happening slowly. I've cut myself off of normal Tumblr, Youtube, and many video games (except Pokemon Moon, that game is fucking awesome), which is giving me more time to work on my writing, website, social media, advertising and, yes, ultimately, drawing. I'm going to take it at my own pace, but it is something that I still want to do. I want to get better and share with you all the nifty ideas floating around in my head. And more orca boobs.
So, look forward to it I guess!
The big thing is that this writing thing... it's paying. It's not paying a lot, not enough to live off of, at least not yet, but it's promising. It's looking better the more that I write. It's how I'm going to make my living in the future. I'm not going to be taking commissions for artwork, but I may take commissions for writing in the future (If you're interested, let me know). I've got a good thing going here, and furry stuff is just not as important to me as it was five or ten years ago. So, that's what's going to be going on moving forward. I won't offer freebies very often, so don't expect that. Selling these stories through sites like Amazon and Smashwords is where I make my cash! So, I hope a few of you might be interested in checking out my stories. You can see samples of them through Smashwords, just follow the links on my site to check them out.

General | Posted 9 years agoYep, still writing! I'm making money off of it, and I'm getting a lot better at it. You'd be surprised, but yes, people actually do pay 3-4 bucks for some smut, and when a lot of people are willing to do that, you get a decent income.
That's why I haven't been drawing. I've already made more in writing in the past year than I ever have on commissions in about 10 years of drawing. I do still want to draw, and I still want to have my characters come to life, but they may do that in a written form instead of a drawn one more often than not.
Will I post my writing here? No, of course not. It's all up on Amazon for sale at the moment, and as I continue it will be available in more places down the line.
Why am I writing this? Because I want people to be aware of the change. I haven't drawn anything in months, and it's likely that that trend will continue.

Creating a Routine

Life's been busy since TFF. About three days after the con, I hit the road (sky?) for Japan. I've been here for 3 weeks and only have a few days left! This has been my third trip to this country, and I've seen a lot of new things, and a lot of things that I've seen before (namely Akihabara, nerd mecca). It's been a lot of fun, but I'm ready to get home.
Unfortunately, a short while after I return to San Antonio, I need to go back to San Diego! My grandmother has been placed in hospice. This is something we've seen coming for a long time, but visiting her has become a 'now or never' sort of thing. She's a great lady and has been incredibly generous and kind to her whole family. We're all going to enjoy her life as much as we can. I also need to get the rest of my belongings that I left at my sister's place. Turns out when you move around a lot, you end up having little pieces of yourself all over the place. Time to gather all those pieces into one place.
Once I come back from that trip, I'll be working hard on establishing a routine. I've been working steadily on building a library of short stories on Amazon (links below). These stories will, I hope, become my main source of income. That means I'll be working on them a lot from here on out. New stories monthly, that's the goal, and I hope that the quality of these stories goes up, and attracts more people to my work!
That includes you guys. Of course, I will keep drawing, since I love it, and I've done it for so long. I still have stories about my characters here that I want to get out into the open. Whether they come out in illustration or writing, you'll see them here. However, the less I make on stories, the more I have to write, which means the less time I have to draw. Yes, that's a passive-aggressive way of saying that if you want to see more art, go support my writing!
A very simple thing you can do is to review my work on Amazon. If you're willing to write a review on Amazon, I'll be willing to give you a copy of the story for FREE. Mistakes Were Made

Mistakes were made. Changes happened. Priorities were set straight.
Dr. Bored was my name for over 10 years. It's time for a clean slate. I'm not out to impress or disappoint anyone, or beat or lose to anyone, or be better or worse than anyone.
I'm not here to say that I wasn't Dr. Bored, that I didn't make the mistakes that I made, that I didn't burn some bridges, or that I didn't hurt some people. That said, if you're looking for some fancy apology, you're not going to find it. Know that my intention is to stand by my actions and my self, because I'm the only self that I have.
I am not a knight in shining armor.
I'm just a guy that likes to draw orca tits.
So that's what I'm going to do.
