While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Posted 7 years agoI wanted to express what went into my recent performance at EF in Enter the Arena (the dance competition) Because a lot more thought went into it than what one may see from a 1:30 minute dance set. I had been wanting to create a more contemporary dance to this particular song for at least 2 years. In fact I can pin point exactly when I got the idea. I've always known this song, my father gave me that appreciation of great classic rock. Fast forward to 2016, the gorgeous film of Kubo and the Two Strings came out and to close out that artistic master piece the credits rolled with Regina Spektor singing a wonderful cover of George Harrisson's "While my Guitar Gently Weeps"
So of course over the next week I replay it over and over and discover other covers through out the past years and I think about the lyrics and they relate to myself so much. Its about an individual who has come into perception of state of their world. They see how everything is connected, they see how small they are in the scheme of it, they see how much potential love there is, they see how much beauty there is in life, they want to make some kind of change, and they have a tool to help them.
I can't play guitar, I don't sing well, but I knew I could feel the song and translate it into my own vision through dancing. I found Santana's cover and felt just so calmly at ease with India Arie's soothing vocals and the Spanish guitar was so familiar to my heritage this song was perfect.
Harrison wrote this song after an enlightening escape to India. He'd been around the world with the Beatles and was understanding the world. I wish to continue connecting with all you beautiful souls across our planet and help make it a better place. I have so many other wonderful things to reflect on but I mustn't start making vague and tearful writings right now and keep this simple.

Moving to Ohio!
Posted 9 years agoFinally starting a new chapter in my life. A big one! And a successful one by the looks of it.
So after about 6 months of waiting, form filling, government queuing... Dash now has a Job set to start as a ****. OF course this news prompted me to search around and I got accepted as a Postal Carrier for the City of Columbus!
My thighs are gonna be so toned working for USPS. In a year I'll be at a dance comp and either I'll jump high enough to grab onto the overhead lighting rig or I'll stomp and bust a hole into the stage floor XD.
I'm super excited. The move is going to be tricky and we probably can't take everything as we wont be able to afford the space. But after a month or two of settling in we'll really feel stable for the first time in years. I'll actually be finishing my months with a profit and not live paycheck to paycheck. Finally I can save up again and travel all around like I've always wanted. We never even had a honeymoon :( gotta make up for that. I'm thinking Hawaii.
In other news, FWA 2016 was amazing. I've met several completely new friends and I think we really connected its just wonderful. Its super resparked my desire to create more content and video. I'm already planning a weekly or biweekly youtube series called Dash and Mangy in the morning. It'll just be a 5-7 minute talk session of us going on about whats up in the fandom and elsewhere. Then maybe throw in some extra featurette.
So yeah!

Posted 10 years agoI've been so busy lately, I honestly didn't want this con stressing me out, maybe that was why i feel asleep kinda early on most nights. ^^'
I really did enjoy my time though, and the con did successfully allow myself to mellow out.
Wow, MFF sure has grown. Over 5,000 attendees. There would be friends that I'd cross path with only once for the whole con. It makes me want to run panels just so people may know where I am for at least one part of the day.
The British invasion!! Oh so nice to see some many of the British crowd again. I just have to name drop them because I really did appreciate being in your company once again.

Thanks for the laughs and the chats.
I also got to finally see Chicago even after this being my 3rd MFF. Happy I did. I didn't have the funds to do Willis Tower but thats fine. I also visited the Lincoln Park Zoo. That was a great experience. Almost all of the animals were especially active at the time. Many of the enclosures were doing enrichment studies so they were tossing in scrap objects with food in them. Oh and Umami Burger... MMMMMmmmmm, this was the best burger I've ever had. EVER. The juiciness, the presentation, the sauces, the meat.
I believe I want to go back just to have the opportunity to try it again.
Vine panel had a good turnout, Thank you for all the help Cosmic and Dash <3 We may have been a little unprepared but hey, I aint getting paid for this.
I think I made a good decision by doing one dance event and not all of them.
I had a good time getting drunk while cheering on floor wars, and of course Athena you were lovely company to have to commentate with during that.
As for the Dance comp. I was nervous going into prelims, the fact that not making the cut the previous year was still in my head.
Thanks Rahne and Kwik and everyone else for their encouragement. Getting a unanimous vote after the first round really lifted me up. Then when it came to the show, I'm glad I pulled everything on as well as I did since I really didn't get much practice time in. I forgot most of my Beyonce moves near the end. :P
3rd place for me, 2nd place to Strobes (there was so much character in that performance) 1st to Kiyo, I knew you'd pull it off. I congratulated you when you got back stage because you had already placed 1st in my eyes.
For next MFF I will skip on the Dance comp and try for Floor wars.
Very successful con. I'll definitely try to attend one more time next year, but then I dont know.. Its sooo big >.<
Next con on the forecast is FWA 2016!! My mission is to party party party. I think I'll have to hook myself back on monster just for that con so I can keep going.

But this could require getting props or mirrors or money for dance studio room for proper choreography practice.
And I am one poor mongoose.
So I was hoping to sell this Mangusu Poster to raise just a bit of money.
It will be signed by me (as Mangusu) And you can do what you want with it!
Hanging it up in your room and marvel at it.
Draw a mustache on it. Draw a dick on it.
Play pin the crown on the Mongoose.

Draw a target and have target practice.
Use it for wrapping paper.

Mongoose Life Update (Vines, Rings, and Atlanta)

I'm trying to keep this journal updated at least once a month.
So at the moment, things are looking good.
Biggest news of all. I got engaged to my one and only.

Dash is back in aus but he shall return forever in my arms and apply to live permanently in the US.
As for upcoming cons. I have my eyes set on returning to FWA.
I already got the room secured, will reg in a couple days, haven't worked out travel just yet but I know I'm driving up.
If any of my close dancer friends are trying to come up with a group routine I really wanna be a part of one.

I am distancing myself from dancing just a little since I've always found myself basically more of a performer than a skilled dancer. I'm just better at putting on a show than showing off a feat. In some time I think I'll disregard the dance comps and try to create routines for variety shows. they're less stressful and allow for more time/props/participants . I'd also like to judge a few more competitions, any of you running comps, give me a call :)

I can let you know my basic plans.
First off, I'm so excited for Our World federation rooming situation. Got 2 brits, an American and an Aussie.
As for planned panels. I shall be competing solo in the Fursuit Dance competition.
I will Attend floorwars, but unfortunately I did not sign up for it.
I am going to be in the Fursuit parade and most likely marching near other Phoenix Wolf suits as we have an obligatory photoshoot at the end.
Then the rest is pretty much Drink drink drink!
Oh and Dash has a really nice Career with animals panel that you should see.
I saw there was a adults only charades... that would be fun, hopefully I wont be passed out drunk.
If there are any other events you think I should attend of if you'd like a bit of support from me for your gig let me know. Other wise I just play it by ear and grab friends to mingle.
Dont think theres much else to cover! Dont forget about my coin trade madness!

Over the hears i have casually collected foreign coins I come across. Ive got a few nations and I want it to expand! I love world culture and having a foreign coin feels like a token of international connectiveness. Even if I havent been to that country.
So in effort to get more DIFFERENT coins I offer a trade! If you can find me and give me a coin from a nation I dont have I will pour or buy you a shot. Because booze. Let me lay down the basic rules.
•1 coin trade per person
•must be 21 years or older. Sorry Minors
•disqualified if i already have the currency.

Quick Mongoose update

Working full time right now for a cable company doing video support. So I will be much less active socially these days.. thats just a heads up if you're trying to get a hold of me. I may not be available but I will do my best to answer all messages should I get any.
Also, my muse for the moment is the Vine app. So follow me there, I've got quite a few ideas I'm trying to put out on it at least once a week. trying to make most of them fursuit videos from this point on. Let me know what sort of stuff you'd like to see!

Extraordinary Mongoose updates!

I've been rather slow lately. And also coming off the *coughspatterhackcough* flu *phlegm*
So wrapping up my final month in Australia and attended a local con called Rivfur!
For its super compact con size it was actually a blast. Strangely most of the attendees were not from brisbane even thought it was city center.
got to debut his new PWF Tiger Fursuit! (weird two animals proceed its name) With extreme success. Our pictures in the park got like 300 overall twitter favs o.o' (all cause i climbed a tree XD )
Also enjoyed the Brisbane Royal Ekka fair the following days. It was like a festival with production value somewhere between Disney and a Carnival with so much local culture.
In other news. We've secured a room for MFF in the main hotel! WOOOOOOOOO. Oo.
Gotta come up with ^several^ new dances now o.o
Gotta try real hard.
I miss so many people

However we haven't found rooms yet.
Anyone out there got space for 2 fursuiters?
If not we may just book a spot in the Hilton, anyone have experience with it? Its nice that its connected by sky bridge. Does the bridge ever get closed?

How I became a Mongoose.
Posted 11 years agoI'm just bored and thought I'd write a little story of my furry Origins.
Right so way back in my middle school days I was a blossoming little fruity nerd. My favorite tv shows of the time were Sailor Moon, Invader Zim, and Rocko's Modern Life.
I had no clue what furries were, neither did my friends, but we certainly appreciated animals. So this one friend decides shes gonna write her friends into her fantasy novel and give them animal qualities. She asked what sort we wanted to be. Being a weirdo like myself I already knew I didn't want anything obvious. First thing I thought of was to quote Gir from Invader Zim which had just come out at that time in 2001.
"I wanna be a mongoose"
"No Gir, you'll be a dog"
"can I be a Mongoose Dog?"
And it stuck, I was a mongoose.
I wasn't even sure what a mongoose was, I knew it was like a weasel.
After research I instantly loved the mongoose, it was so much like me. Small but feisty, exotic, flexible, quick, observant, and even aggressive.
Later once I was a furry I had to define it even more. You can't just be that animal, it needs to be specific. So I took it a step further and decided I was a Ring Tailed Malagasy Mongoose. Cause they're the(successfully gayest) prettiest of mongooses.

Posted 11 years agoSo drove over to the Surfer's Paradise to spend a weekend at convention Furry Down Under. Definitely the best furry convention in Australia and probably the entire Southern Hemisphere. Unless FWA becomes Furry Weekend Argentina.
Right on the beach, you can get some sun and fun if you'd like to walk out for a moment in those earlier hours of the day when panels aren't quite your thing. I wish I went on the trip to the Arcade when I later saw how massive it was. Lots of cool stuff and quick eats in walking distance from the hotel. Bottler on the corner if you ran out of party fuel too!
So enough about that perfect location.
I enjoyed how straight forward the convention seemed. It was small and designed simple for its size as well. I had a lot of fun with the impromptu panel invitations. I got to be a fashion designer for Iron Artist and Furs Against Humanity contestant. I was really impressed how that FAH panel was organized actually to make the game able to be fun for a whole room of people. Props Logan Husky.
Big shout out to Oz and Mozee for the time spent at this con. Suiting in Mart was hilarious, its been so long since I could embody a hilarious character.
And the Dance Comp.
Impressed. I was impressed at the entertainment pool this little con could bring together. There was hardly a dull moment for the dance competition.
I got the opportunity to Dance in Apollo's suit again and came out with 3rd place! 2nd was Blu who moves his arms faster than a speeding bullet and 1st was Skittles from Brisbane who had a most impressive MJ-dubstep routine.

I think I'll write up a journal about Fursuit Dance Competition tips later. I can't teach people how to dance but I certainly know what works well in these competitions.

Whats your opinion? Are the prices alright? too much for the quality?
Personally i'm thinking to add to the cost a bit as the time of labor is way higher than the pay rate currently.

Heart is leaping from time to time just fantasizing all the possibilities, discoveries, worries, friends, and everything waiting for me down under in Australia. I shall be off for quite a while, up to a year. I'll miss you all, all you wonderful people who put up with me.

Posted 12 years agoOver the past few months it has occurred to me that I may have one or two individuals seeking to communicate with other furries by using my name and image.
I'm not angry, its just causing lots of confusion.
I've been getting notes and shouts on my page from people I've honestly never met and their words seem as though I've been talking to them for weeks.
So at least this impersonator is nice ^_^' But its just not fair to falsify that information. Its not fair to everyone. Who ever you are, you're kind enough to hold conversations, you don't need my name to initiate them.
So how can you be sure you're talking to the right Mangusu?
Well for starters, I don't really socialize on facebook. At all.
I have my personal page for family, workers, and close friends. Why make a furry one? I have FA and Twitter already. I try to keep my social networking as casual as possible. Its too stressful to be checking so many pages, im far too busy with art/working/gym/sleeping/cooking/loving/drinking/discovering/wondering/wandering/pondering/drinking/
So yeah.. hard to squeeze all the internet into all that. ^^' I try.

So I've decided to let the character go to a new home.
Its been a crazy ride with how much this suit has done for me and how much effort I put into it. But lately I've felt tied down with it, and I can't perform the best of my abilities. He was really never meant for dancing. I don't want him to retire like Tac was, I still want to see MonsteRoo at cons. So by selling him he can continue to bring excitement to the fandom.
We've fixed him up for selling shape. With a new liner in the head (before I just had my face against the foam XP)
