Q: WHAT’S ALL THIS THEN?!
A: Just a little marketing idea Riffraff thought of, and I agreed to. A great way we could get more book sales and word of mouth for “Shadows in Light” would be of course to write short stories for people kind enough to commission some, with the caveat that people use some or all of the payment to buy a paperback or two (or more), which would then be deducted from the story price.

Q: EXPLAIN PLEASE, SLOWLY.
A: As an example, let’s say someone would like a short story from me. Commission requests would be done as usual except that the commissioner has the option to buy books to keep (and of course re-sell if they like), in lieu of a full cash or Paypal payment instead.

Q: FOR EXAMPLE…?
A: Commissioner A would like a short story that together we estimate would be 2,500 words in length. Commissioner A agrees on an “out the door” price of $50 – with an additional agreement to purchase two books for a total of $40 extra (the book is $18.99 but there is tax involved, so it is rounded to $20) The books can be purchased in any way, even on a gift card, if one exists, and Commissioner A would receive a finished story. The books then belong to Commissioner A to do whatever they would like with them. They can be given away as gifts, re-sold to recoup most or all of the money spent, etc. That is entirely up to Commissioner A.

Q: SO IF I WANTED TO, I COULD PAY FOR A STORY COMPLETELY IN BOOKS?
A: You may. =) You could want a short 1,000-word-story for example, and buy maybe 3-4 books, at $60-80, and then re-sell the books again, and get a free story that way.

Q: IT SEEMS LIKE THERE’S A NEW RATE LIST HERE.
A: Yes, for the time being, the price per word is a discount now at .04/word (usually .05), and prices will be further discounted if books are used as payment. So, 2500 words for example would normally go for about $125, but if Commissioner A wants to use some book sales as payment, it’s lowered to $100 automatically, and the Commissioner may buy 1 book – and pay only $80 out of pocket, 2 books and pay only $60, etc.

Q: WHAT IF WE REALLY DON’T WANT THE BOOK BUT WANT THE STORY?
A: Obviously, we’d love it if you supported us with book buying too, but if not, the usual .05/word rate would then apply.

Q: WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE BE AWARE OF?
A: We’ll throw in one more discount too. If you really want to read the book, and find yourself absolutely loving it, write a short review, point us to a review you wrote, (on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.) and we’ll send you back 10% of your total purchase price. So if you spent $100 in total altogether, with books, we’ll Paypal back $10 to you for the review. Of course, this all is entirely on the honor system. I’m trusting we have many kind-hearted furries who want to help out.
