Life gave me a big ol' kick in the teeth this month while on break and I wasn't able to get very much (rather, as much as I would have liked) done. Things are slowly starting better themselves and soon I'll be right as rain. I'm back in Chicago and ready to start the new semester!
On the plus side, a problem roommate moved out! On the down side, one of my days is 12 hours worth of classes (8 in one, 3 in another). Fun stuff!
A big thanks goes to those in Discord who helped me get through the most emotional and stressful parts of last month, as well as those who sent condolences. Y'all are the best!

Now to get back home and sleep. Then it's onto personal projects I've been putting aside for a while until the 25th when I have to head back.

It's already the 5th in my state and I'm already celebrating, haha.

I'm Hispanic (and live in a city with a very small Hispanic population), so I'm thrilled to be spending it at home this year! I just got in and already I've snuck into my parents' kitchen to start making Capriotada (Mexican bread pudding) for them, as well as starting some tamales for dinner later! My tio is also making "red chicken" and bringing over his new guitar. Exciting!
I'm also planning on getting some festive art of La Muerte (http://toyhou.se/791523.la-muerte) because that's my own little way of celebrating and tbh he speaks to my Latina roots, haha.
I want to call my relatives in California as well! It's been ages, and I've been a pretty socially neglectful college student. ; v;

I'm taking on a mini project to fix my coworker's props (foam falling apart, handles on pins need re-gluing, etc) and one of the things I'd like to fix is the clothing on his Ded Bob puppet, which has a bit of off-white faux fur along his jacket that's been soaked in sharpie from traveling in a box with other assorted things that had it on them.
Is there any way to save it? Or will I have to replace that strip of fur? Re-sewing a new piece wouldn't be too much of an issue, but I want to see how much I can salvage first. Any advice is super appreciated!

I need goat stuff. Lots and lots of goats. I'm gonna be decorating my renfest outfit with it, so think small! Patches, figures, accessories, etc. Even old bells. It has to be "period accurate" so no plushies (as much as I'd love to see them anyway because goats are the best) or obviously plastic items, please!

If you'd like to be amazing and 'donate' some to the cause, I'd be more than appreciative and would be more than willing to pay shipping!

In a strange turn of events, I'm going to be participating again this year!

I'm so excited, but at the same time I feel like I'm going to hurl. After things went irredeemably south following my surgery last year, I lost contact with a lot of people. Something about being so sick made me socially reclusive. It's been so long since I /myself/ contacted the crew that their reassurance and messages to my dad telling him how much they miss me is a weird mix of relief, unbelievable gratitude, and guilt. Those guys are like family to me. I can't believe those nerds still love me.
There's a guy who I also might run into that I have a major thing for who I may or may not have blown my chances with because I got sick around the time we were supposed to plan to go on a date and I haven't explained a thing about my sudden silence

Recently I started thinking about how old I am vs. how long I've been in the fandom. I attended my first furcon the same year I discovered furries; aaaaall the way back in 2008! I got a way too baggy suit that I loved for years from Furbid with money I had saved and asked my parents if they could take my brother and I to FWA. They talked to Kiran Lightpaw about the whole thing (because they were unsure about furries at the time, understandably) and he was amazing enough to give them badges to accompany us.
Though my folks haven't gone in years, I've been going to FWA every year since, and it's usually the only con I'm able to attend due to schedule conflicts.

I'm 21 now, so back then at the start I was... 12? Neato. I named myself after a Fullmetal Alchemist character, wore the absolute best (worst) hand drawn badges I could make, and suiters like Tilt Longtail and Neopan Tyger, and Duke were my jam, lmao. That's not to say I don't like them any more, it's just they were pretty much the only names I knew. Now I have so many idols and inspirations that by the time I finished writing a list of them I'd probably remember several more. So many things have changed, for better or for worse, but I don't think I'll give up on the fandom just yet despite everything.

So, how long have you been in the fandom?
