Anyone still watching? >.>
Posted 13 years agoBeen a loooong time since I've really been on here. Life's been up and down. Got my son living with me again, which is awesome. Been really sick, which is not awesome. Trying to figure out my life and some direction. Still don't have a paid job. Volunteering twice a week at the local animal shelter, which is very rewarding and I love it. I've rescued two cats from there so far >.> and I want to take most of the dogs home with me, too. Damn rental housing. And lack of income. Anyway, things are mostly ok.
Been playing WoW a lot, though not so much lately. Started Diablo3 with Jase and the boy, which is fun for us all. Most days are very Meh for me though.
Trying to get back into art stuffs. Did a sketch in the few spare moments I've had out at the shelter. Uploading it in a sec. Got it pinned up on the wall out there so only took a photo of it. Sorry for the bad quality. Hoping to get a lot more practice. I haven't done ANY sketching for ... I can't remember, over a year? I really want to get into it again. Maybe more toward the realism rather than toony. Might do better at that.
Anyway, hope you all are well, or at least alive. To anyone still reading this, thanks for sticking with me.

Uncertainty
Posted 15 years agoAgain, it's been quite a while since I was online, and on FA in particular. Pretty much since my last journal. It's been really hard not having my son around. Plus I'm not going to get to visit him as much as I'd like to :( Just can't afford it. Will probably only be able to go over to him once in the middle of each school term, and pay for him to come here for each school holidays. I miss him so much. Money's getting quite tight and I'm in even more need of a job now. But still nobody seems to want to employ me. Having a HUGE gap on my resume due to being unemployed for the last 12 years seems to put me in the immediate 'NO' category for any job I apply for. It's so hard to get back into employment after raising a family.
I have a couple of business/hobby income ideas of my own, which I'm starting to work on. Will post more when (if) I actually follow through on them. Would still really love to take an art course, especially anatomy and such, but I really can't afford it any more.
Oh, and I had to put down my dog last weekend. That was so hard. She was old and her arthritis was so bad she couldn't get up off the floor a lot of the time. I held her while they gave her the injection, and felt her heart stop beating. I cried. She was 12 years old. I will upload some pictures sometime later (into scraps). I did a colour sketch of her the night before she died, when she was dozing on the floor. It turned out pretty well. Will upload that when I get the scanner working. I took her paw prints in ink in my sketchbook too. Will get one tattooed when I can afford it, plus 'Cleopatra 1998-2010' on it. She had such furry paws you can almost see more fur than paw print in the ink. I miss her. We dug a shallow grave in my parents' backyard, next to my favourite tree from when I was young - I used to climb that tree and do my homework in it.
So my depression certainly hasn't got any better. I just changed to a new medication, so I'm not feeling so crash hot right now. But it should improve in a couple of weeks. Life at home is up and down, complicated. Plus my parents are a little rocky at the moment, too. My mum has been going through menopause and it's making her insanely moody - so much so that she almost left home a couple of weeks ago. I'm worried about her, and their relationship, too. But she's trying some medication now, and has a doc appt (though she has to wait 6 weeks to get in to her doctor). She told me that as long as she hasn't killed dad in the next 6 weeks, she'll probably be fine. She was mostly joking. Oh, and my sister is drinking too much. Life, hey? It's certainly interesting.
...
So I'm not sure if it's a result of the craziness and uncertainty in my life at the moment, a desire to change things or what, but I am feeling that perhaps a furry make-over is in order. I don't know. Part of me hates the thought of moving away from my current avatar, but part of me thinks it might be time to put her behind me. I know I get cranky and down when I don't change my real life look at least once a year, so I guess having stuck with the same/similar furry avatar for so many years is starting to drag me down. I don't know.
But what do you all think? I still love my otter side (the water is my love) but I'm still very much a cat personality. I also sometimes shift into a bit of a spaniel mood occasionally and put my hair up in fluffy pigtails like ears ... >_< Perhaps, instead of combining my traits into one avatar like I had been with my feline/otter, I should have a few different ones? Perhaps having three avatars to suit my mood might work better for me ...
Thoughts?

tl;dr - Life is crap and I think I need a make-over.

Depression and life changing events
Posted 15 years agoI'm not really sure what to type here. I'm not very good at talking about my issues. But my prolonged absence deserves some explanation to those of you who still watch me (which I greatly appreciate).
I have depression. It's been up and down, but most recently it's been very down - mostly due to added stresses in my life. I'm working on it, seeing a doc and all that jazz. But it's meant for rather hermit-like behaviour on my part. I was kinda getting over it a bit, then things got crazier in my life.
As things stand, I'm about to lose my son for a while. He is moving away with his father who is going to move in with his girlfriend to support her while she fights for custody of her kids with her abusive ex. The girlfriend and her kids are lovely, and my son will be enrolled in their school (which sounds good, much better than the one he's currently in). He enjoys being part of a bigger family, and some of his behavioural issues have eased a bit having spent time with others.
But he will be a long way from me.
I plan on saving up to visit with him one weekend a month at least. That's gonna be hard enough, since we'll be getting a cut in family payments because of the change in care arrangements. But I will manage. My family is gonna plan a holiday over to that area in the school holidays so we can all go over for a week or so, which will be nice.
But, yeah ... lots of changes, LOTS of additional stress. As a parent, you don't expect your kids to be moving away until they're about 18 ... I was hoping not to have to think about it for another 8 years. But at least this is only temporary, until her legal issues are sorted out. Gods only know how long that will take, however.
So, my dearest, most wonderful watchers ... you have my apologies for my inactivity and my deepest gratitude for sticking with me.
Thank you.
PS: I have thousands of unread journals and submissions ... I will be nuking the journals and very slowly going through the submissions. I hope I don't miss anything that was important to me >_<

Lauren is in desperate need of help. She is homeless, jobless and now has an enormous vet bill for her lovely dog. She has a tip jar linked in the header of her journal, if you can spare any amount at all.
ALSO
I am going to run a multiple artist auction to raise money to help her out! I have a few artists interested already, but would greatly appreciate more offers and volunteers. I'll wait 2 days before starting the auction, to hopefully get as much interest from contributors as I can. If you want to help, please note me!
MY OWN EFFORTS
All (any) forthcoming proceeds from my $1 sketches (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1200402/) will be going toward helping Lauren. Also, I may offer a few digital portraits (such as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2232419/) for $10 each, to raise more funds.
IF YOU CAN'T HELP OUT, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
Alive and back into it - much apologies
Posted 15 years agoSo I've finally managed to drag myself out of my slump. Did some sketching over the weekend with my cousin and it helped to be able to draw with someone else. Unfortunately I don't really know many people, and those I do don't do art stuff. I don't see my cousin enough, either.
Anyway, the sketching with her helped refresh me so I'm back into completing the people on my $1 sketch list. I'll be taking more slots on that, too. Still have many pages of my book to fill. Would appreciate any pimping you can give. See http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1200402/ for the details of the offer.
Hope everyone's been doing fine - I have barely read any journals, and only given a cursory glance to art over the last couple of months. It's not because I don't care, but because I wasn't in a good state of mind. Still love you all. Thank you for the continued support. You're all wonderful.

absence
Posted 15 years agoYes, I've been away from FA for quite some time now. Life's been kinda crazy. I've mostly been doing the mothering thing and also working out plans for my wedding in November. So much to organise. Hopefully I'll be back into things here shortly - your sketches WILL be done, and soon. Sorry about that!
So many journals and submissions! I nuked the journals - sorry if I missed something. Will slowly be going through submissions though.
If I've missed anything important, just let me know.
Love you all!

sketching and pimping
Posted 15 years agoIt's amazing how much of a difference a few days break in sketching makes to the quality of the work. With the time off for my back pain, it was really hard to get back into the groove of sketching again, and it really showed with how bad the first couple of sketches for KanaKitten were. Now I've been doing a few though, I seem to be getting the hang of it again. I'll really try not to have a break again if I can help it - at least a sketch a day is my goal. Preferably 2 or more!

travarisrhade is in a really bad place at the moment - homeless, jobless, broke - and needs any suggestions or help you can offer. Please, do whatever you can to help this wonderful artist and person. Nobody deserves to be doing it that hard.

Reminder and apology
Posted 15 years agoJust another reminder to everyone to check out my $1 sketch offer journal - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1200402/ - I'm almost at 20 sketches so far but still have plenty of room for more ^_^.
The apology is kinda related - I'll be a little slow this week doing the sketches on my list as I have really really bad back pain at the moment and it hurts to do anything. So I'll be resting as much as I can. They will still get done, just might be a little slower.
Love you all!

Want some (almost) FREE ART?
Posted 15 years agoI'm still accepting $1 sketch commissions!
I've been through a few of the ones on the list so far, and have more to go - but still have plenty of slots open to fill my 120 page sketch book!
Please check out my $1 sketch journal - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1200402/
Thanks also to everyone who's +watched me or +fave'd any of these sketches (and there's been a few of you) - it really means a lot to me.

jayven and I have set the date for our wedding and are making some firm plans now! We've picked out rings, I'm considering dresses (or the corset option I first thought about) and we're throwing together ideas for our small, backyard shindig. It's really exciting! Well, it's not like it's my first wedding or anything, but it's HIS first wedding, so I want it to be real special for him. I hope it will be. I'm sure it will be. *gets a little nervous*

$1 sketches!
Posted 15 years agoSo I've been down lately, and annoyed with the fact that my muse seems to be awol. Also I know I need a LOT of practice with my drawing. So I bought a new A4 sketchbook today. 120 empty pages I need to fill up.
This is where the $1 sketches come in.
It has a dual purpose to both improve my skills with a variety of subjects to sketch, and to help pad my paypal balance a little so I can afford to help others out.
I want your refs! As many sketches as you'd like done, I don't care. But keep in mind that they're not the best. Well, I guess that's putting myself down more than necessary. Ok, so they'll be not necessarily as good as you might hope for, but I need to improve and for that I need practice.
No corrections will be made to these sketches, unless it's something obvious in the refs you give me that I've left out, so make sure you have good visual or detailed text refs (visual preferred). Just $1 per sketch. I have 120 pages to fill! Please help me out ^_^.
My paypal is tmaralee at gmail dot com.
Please comment here with how many sketches you'd like and your refs - don't use notes as I might lose track of them.
Oh, and keep them clean, please. I have a young son who watches me sketch often. Nothing more than tasteful nude for both refs and sketch subject!

Posted 15 years agoAlive
Posted 15 years agoWell, that was a long afternoon sorting through submissions and journals.
Went on holiday for a few days. Had a lot of fun. Haven't done much in the way of art, because my muse is awol again. *shrugs* Sorry. Anyway, I'm still alive, if anyone was wondering, or cared. *waves* Hi.

absence and contacts
Posted 16 years agoYep, been away for a while. Had over 700 submissions and 300 journals to go through to catch up today. My art has been non-existent. I think my muse is off on holidays again. Bitch. Could have at least taken me with her.
Anyway, if you need to contact me or anything, I'm on twitter (under the username tmaralee) and also on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/tmaralee). Going to try and get into the creative mood again, because not doing any art stuff is driving me nuts.

100 sketches?
Posted 16 years agoI'm considering doing those 100 sketches that so many people are offering these days, but I know I won't get even close to that number. However, if I offer them for only $2-$3 per character sketch, how many of you would be interested? Would you spread the word for me? Is it worth it?
Thoughts please ^_^.
[Edit: Oh, and I'll be away for nearly a week, so don't stress if you don't hear from me. Thanks!]

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1072475/ - I love it when an artist makes good use of black card, and this is quite effective. Minimal shading needed, and a lovely feel. The warmth of the fire is reflected well in the orange glow on the face and arm.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1388103/ - Naughty, teasing pose, with very well done anatomy. It's dynamic and full of vibrant colour. The green bamboo really compliments the image.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1593865/ - I love the feel of movement in this. It evokes a feeling of enjoying the breeze as you move with it. Nice outfit and good colour selections ^_^.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1544400/ - PILLOW! I love these so very much ^_^. It's a unique concept and I love how you get the character into this squishy rectangle of goodness ^_^
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1841313/ - Awesome subject choice, yay for Harley Quinn! Nice and curvy, cute yet mischievous pose, good colouring. It's got some great character.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1416964/ - One of your early works it seems, and quite well done. Dynamic pose and the frame break makes it even better. Very smooth shading.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2703617/ - I'm a big fan of simple yet expressive, and this comic (and specifically, this example) encompasses that very well. Beautiful expression and effective communication with just a few simple lines ^_^.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1405010/ - Very nice concept, the blue is just the right shade to my eyes and the lens flare adds to the stellar feel.
(Only two unique pieces of art for me to choose in your gallery, honey. Sorry.)

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1072475/ - I love it when an artist makes good use of black card, and this is quite effective.

Sorry.)
