Please Help
Posted 9 years agoHey there,
I so rarely write journals that I hate to ask for anything, but I think this is a worthy cause. One of my friends, Valerie, is in hard times right now. She's been displaced from her home by her roommates along with her fiancé, and is now living in her car. Valerie suffers from PTSD which is triggered by groups, and cannot easily use most of the resources available in her state. Her fiancé is a veteran, and was also stricken with PTSD during his service. They are currently living in a campground, but are being forced to sleep in their car, as they have no tent, no cooler, and no stove. I'd like to make their time there a bit more comfortable, and provide them with some of these things. On my urging, she is taking small donations at her Google Pay (NOT PAYPAL) address mccreadyv[at]gmail.com to make this easier. Anything you can send, be it $1 or $100, would be enough. If you can't send money, then please at least post this as a journal, and increase the scope a bit.
Thank you so much for at least reading.

Ads and Other Shit
Posted 10 years agoRight,
This is insane. I've been an avid user of both furaffinity and adblock for years, but I've always kept furaffinity whitelisted. I like seeing community advertisements paid for by other furries, as they're relevant to me. When the 'powers that be' (I say sarcastically) decided to sell out FA to IMVU, I simply added a blacklist filter to anything containing *imvu*. If you don't know what the *'s mean, they're wildcard characters. They 'match' any character or set of characters. This means it will block /imvu/ or asdfimvuasdf just the same. I was still happy to leave the community ads, but corporate ads just piss me off.
Then they decided to change the way that works. They're all hidden now behind api calls. That means that if I WANT to see community ads, I HAVE to see IMVU ads. They're being shoved down my throat. That's not okay. I've simply removed my whitelist. I can't sit there and watch these fake 'furry' ads from some company that doesn't even know the meaning.
Now, we get porn shoved down our throats too. I'm getting numerous advertisements for all sorts of nasty shit (pardon my french here, please) and that's even less pleasing. I've now simply removed anything regarding furaffinity from my whitelists. All images not pertaining to submissions, avatars or the name banner at the top have been blocked.
I won't go into details on how to block them, because that's not really within the scope of my rant here, but suffice to say adblock plus should be your best friend. Please use it, and show them we don't want them here. I loved the community advertisements. The feeling of community in a website I enjoyed using. Now, not so much.
All for now,

The sexiest of laptops.
Posted 13 years agoHey,
Just felt like bragging a bit. :3
<bragging>
I finally got myself a new laptop. An Asus Zenbook UX31A. This thing is awesome. It screams. Gen3 Intel Core i7, plenty of RAM, 256GB SSD, an SDXC slot, two USB3's... And my favorite feature: a 13.3" 1920x1080 led-backlit IPS display panel. This thing is beautiful.
</bragging>
On a slightly more reserved note: I got a new laptop. It's kewl. The end.

Posted 13 years agoTo all EVE players.
Posted 13 years agoI've created a corporation in EVE Online for those of you who play.
We call it Frontier United Resettlement and Reconstruction Syndicate. Or for short, FURR Syndicate. We welcome all new and old furry EVE players to join us in Tollus for mining, missioning, and eventually fleet-supported lowsec ops. For those interested in playing, you can contact me for a 21-day trial (as opposed to the usual 14, an extra week of free gameplay, and you're only limited by the ship size you can fly. Up to a cruiser for trials.)
We're looking for members, so don't hesitate to talk to me about it.

kuraianubis is needing some money for medical bills and to pay off student loans. For this purpose, she's opened up a special commission queue just for relearning to use a graphics tablet (as she hasn't used one in a year.) They're a pay-what-you-want, and ten slots. Please get on over there and read her journal, and help out if you can. If not, at least tell others. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3703095/Thanks!
HAPPY! :D
Posted 13 years agoI has a happy. Just got a package in the mail. Open it up, and inside is a SHITTON of jumprings, new tools, and the beginnings of my latest commission. A chain garment made from around 10,000 rings in anodized aluminum and titanium. This is going to be FUN.
Merry Christmas!

Posted 14 years agoHey there, all. I've decided that I'm going to have a stock of some of my more 'generic' weaves. The Half-Persian 4-1 in a couple sizes, Jens Pind Linkage in the enameled copper, and a couple other things. I've also added jewelry-grade copper to my list. It's beautifully colored - a soft pink - and of course, there is always a healing effect when copper is introduced. It's great for joint pain. I have one weave in the pure copper already set up for order, just give me a length. I can have more made quickly, and I can take commissions, of course. My mate and I are going to be getting an actual commissions page up soon, with /GOOD/ pictures and price estimates for different weaves and materials. Here's what I have made for immediate sale.
Pure (Healing) Copper Bracelet - Vipera Berus Weave - 20ga 3.0mm with a hand made (same material) hook-in-loop clasp.
Argentium Sterling-clad Copper (non-healing) Bracelet - Half-Persian 4-1 Weave - 20ga 5/32" with a dark grey lobsterclaw clasp.
Galvanized Steel Bracelet - Jens Pind Linkage 3 (JPL3) - 16ga - No clasp yet due to large wire size. Just let me know what kind of clasp you like, and I'll throw it in for free. (Within reason, please.) Remember: This one is /Galvanized Steel/. It will /not/ rust, but don't get it wet. Damp air won't hurt it, but soaking it will. It will get a very hard white coating on the outside - called scaling - that is quite unsightly and uncomfortable. However. Unless someone has an allergy to Zinc, it's very unlikely that they will have an allergic reaction to Galvanized Steel, and it's good for normal wear. It's not easily damaged by anything, and is very strong.
Jewelry-metal clad Copper (non-healing) Bracelet - Jens Pind Linkage 3 (JPL3) - 20ga 2.5mm - I have quite the stock of this chain; enough to make a couple of bracelets or even a necklace (possibly two.) If you're interested in anything made with it, let me know. It's quite pretty, but know that the jewelry-metal coating used on it /will/ eventually wear off. With care, it can take quite a while, but it will eventually start. The worn product is also quite cool looking, and has a very old-style feel to it when tarnished. I can put gunmetal grey lobster claw clasps, or hand-make a matching hook-and-loop for it. Your choice.
More general stuff:
Bright Aluminum Keychains - Jens Pind Linkage 5 (JPL5) - 16ga - These are really cool. About 2.5" long or so, made from a really neat weave called JPL5. It's an offshoot of the JPL3 weave above, and is quite beefy, even though made from aluminum. I'll ship these with a steel keyring included, but it's easy to remove and put on your own if you like. These I have a set price for. They're $5 each.
Stainless Steel Keychains - Various Weaves - 16ga 1/4" - I can make multiple of these VERY quickly, so if you're interested in any of the following weaves for keychains, just let me know. These run about 2.5 - 3", and are between $5 and $8 depending on the ring-intensiveness.
Pictures of the above will be going online slowly in the next couple of days, so check back!

Commission Information
Posted 14 years agoI've decided to start doing commissions for chainmaille pieces. Prices will be decided on a per-order basis, given how hard it is to price custom physical items like that. Prices depend /heavily/ on the material, and not quite as heavily on the weave. To put it in perspective, a Half-Persian 4-1 bracelet made from sterling silver-plated base metal like the one on my page would go for anywhere from 35 to 50 dollars depending on final length, while the /SAME/ size bracelet out of the same size rings in stainless steel may be 10 dollars cheaper.
My most common weaves are as follows:
Half Persian (Both 3-1 and 4-1)
Full Persian 6-1
Box Chain
European 4-1
Firewyrm
Byzantine
Byzee Beez to Butterflies
Jens Pind Linkage
Spiral 4-1
I can do most weaves from the Spiral, Euro, Persian and Hybrid categories, so if it's not listed, please ASK!
My most common materials are:
Stainless Steel
Galvanized Steel
Copper
Enameled Copper
Silver-plated Copper
Aluminum
Anodized Aluminum
I can work just about any material as well, but please ask. Some things, like solid fine or sterling silver wire, can be /VERY/ expensive, and not cost effective. Just ask, and I can get you a solid quote for materials.

Random Stuff
Posted 14 years agoWell, I now have two permanent bracelets on my left wrist. I hadn't really realized how awesome it feels. XD Pics of the new one in my gallery. In other news, I'll be gone like... all day on Sunday, so if you were expecting to talk to me then, don't. Taking a trip almost two hundred miles out of town, and I'll be there all day. I've gotten a bit more refined with my prices for commission work, but people'll still have to shoot me notes to get prices. My criteria are so convoluted that I couldn't post it in a journal if my life depended on it. XD
All for now!

The news, and an idea.
Posted 14 years agoI think things may be turning out for the better. One of the people I do chainmaille with picked up the paperwork to get us a booth (A REAL ONE!) at the local Saturday market; I may soon be moving in with my best IRL friend; and things seem to be working out for /once/. I'm in the process of figuring out some prices for chain work, which is turning out to be more difficult than I expected. Anyone have any ideas? I know I want to do a per-inch cost, as well as a total-rings cost, then per-hour for the work itself. (All three are relatively low, so total cost doesn't end up too high.) It also needs to be dependent on material used, as well as the size of ring.
Like I said. More difficult than I expected. I was thinking I'd base my prices on something like copper. It's the easiest to work with, (also easiest to mar) and pretty cheap. Then from there I'd do percentage increases based on how expensive/hard to work the material is. So say for me, stainless steel is two or three times as hard to work as copper, but is cheaper by far, so it'd be twice as expensive or so. Aluminum is around the same price as copper, and slightly harder, so 1.5 times or so. Something /like/ that. These aren't finalized numbers, o'course.
Anyone has any ideas, go ahead and comment on this, please.
