Free arts? omg! -- Edit:(slots filled)
Posted 14 years agoWell I've been kind of lacking ideas for things to draw lately so I thought I'd open up a couple of free request slots if people are interested. Just leave a comment below with what you would like, along with any links to character references.
First come first serve so the first couple of comments from people who are interested will get it.
I feel like setting a macro theme but instead I'll let people choose choose whatever they would like instead of limiting them to one subject. :P
I only decided on two slots at the moment so I don't overload myself with work, so for anyone else after these first two I may open up a couple more slots at a later date.
SLOT #1:
RyuujinGekijou
SLOT #2:
Xbuimonsama

Opinions of the 3DS
Posted 14 years agoToday I manage to get my hands on a new Nintendo 3DS and was actuallly quite surprised at how well it works, I wasn't expecting much from the 3D effects but it does work quite well, to a certain degree at least, trying not to lose the 'sweet spot' can be difficult at times, especially when playing the AR games.
People around the net have said that the system can cause some eye strain, and I can see why, it may just be because I'm not used to this 3D stuff yet but after barely five minutes of playing my eyes were already starting to feel weird, even after turning it off my vision still seemed a bit blurry for several minutes afterwards until they re-adjusted to things.
I tried playing again a little later though, only for a few minutes once again and things didn't seem as bad, so the way it affects your eyes could just depend on the lighting and environment around you.
The wifi options are MUCH better compared to the older DS that I've used which couldn't connect at all no matter how much I tried, this new 3DS picked up my wifi network instantly and was a breeze to set up.
The 3D camera was cool though not very clear, very low resolution but it's better than nothing, especially when using the AR cards.
I haven't played any of the games which are sold seperately from the 3DS yet since the one I ordered wont be arriving until at least tomorrow, but the games built into the system are just so much fun and incredibly funny, most notably the 'Face Raiders' game where you take a picture of someone's face, they start flying around the room, and you have to find them on the screen and shoot them down. XD
There are a few bits and pieces on the system that I haven't tried yet but will probably get around to them sometime tomorrow, such as the music player etc.
So yeah the 3DS isn't perfect but plenty of fun to play around with. XD

Mat, now on Inkbunny as well as FA
Posted 14 years agoI've was trying to decide for a while whether or not to set up a page on Inkbunny, but in the end I just decided why not? and set up a gallery there too. I'm still definitely going to spend most of my time on FurAffinity though since I prefer this site more than a lot of others, and I've just got so used to this site after spending so much time on it already. I mainly just set up the gallery on Inkbunny so that I can put my pictures in more than one place, that way people on both sites will be able to see my stuff.
Aaaaaanywho, here's the link if anyone wants to check it out: https://inkbunny.net/Mat
I'm still in the process of uploading all my old pics, so if you go there expect to see a bunch of my really old art until it catches up with this site. XD

Back home
Posted 14 years agoAfter spending the past two and a half weeks in hospital they finally decided I'm well enough to go home, I just got back a few hours ago. I'm still in a bit of pain and a lot of discomfort but at least I'm back home in my own bed. I'm being looked after by my parents who I can't thank enough for all they've been doing for me, I'm already planning on getting them a big thank you gift as soon as I'm well enough to get out or order something for them.
Now the main thing I need to do is stay here, rest, try to relax, and recover. It's still going to take a long time before I'm fit enough to do things like normal but hopefully the healing process will go fast without any problems, then I can get this bag removed from my belly.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and well wishes in this rough time, you're all so kind and I appreciate all your support, you're all such wonderful people and I can't thank you enough.

Merry Christmas and thanks to all of you
Posted 14 years agoHiya there everyone, I hope you all had a very merry christmas, were able to spend plenty of time with your friends and family, and were able to give and receive plenty of good presents. While i'm here I'll wish you all a happy new year too, have a great time.
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes too, your kind words have been of great comfort while I've been unwell, things are starting to go much better here and with any luck I'll be back home relaxing again by wednesday.

The bag is on, and it's not half bad
Posted 14 years agoI was really scared when I went down for the surgery, especially when I saw all the equipment and the amount of people who would be involved. However they put me out and I woke up around an hour or so later in almost no pain at all, there was some discomfort but that's about it, though they did give me a morphene drip which i can activate whenever i need it by pressing a button.
The bag itself is quite neat, though kind of gross since it's partly transparent, so i can see the part of my intestine sticking into it and all the waste leaking out.
To be honest this was all probably for the best, since I got bvack from the operation I've been in almost no pain at all, though I can imagine the main wounds from my abscesses will still hurt when I move around.
Hopefully this is the first part of the path to recovery.
To make things better the doctors said that if things go well and if i can learn enough about how to empty the bag by saturday I may be able to go home for a few hours for christmas before coming back again, with any luck I'll be out of this place sometime next week. :D

Health update
Posted 14 years agoJust thought i'd let anyone who's been following my previous journals know that things have been both good and bad, the pain is sometimes easier to deal with, though i suspect that is something to do with the amount of painkillers they give me sometimes and the fact that i sometimes ask for more because the pain is just so bad.
The doctors came around today and scheduled an apointment for me to have a stoma bag attached to my body, i can't remember the name of the operation but they basically cut a small hole in my belly, cut part of my small intestine and pull it out through the hole, leaving my large intestine dormant to do nothing but heal. I have no idea how long it will take to heal, it could be several months, then hopefully they'll be able to re-attatch everything and things can start getting back to normal.
The appointment is scheduled for today, around an hour or so after writing this journal to be exact, so wish me luck.
One thing that's really depressing about all this though is that it means I won't be home for christmas, my family will visit me here but it won't be the same. On the other hand it's probably for the best since my body seriously needs to heal.

why me?... WHY ME?!??!
Posted 14 years agoI’m back at the hospital again, where I’ve been spending several more days doing almost nothing but resting in bed and having all sorts of tests and operations done. This time I’ll start from the beginning, so sit back because it’s going to be a looooong story.
Several weeks ago I discovered blood after using the bathroom, as well as a great deal of pain, so naturally I went straight to the doctors to see what was wrong. He said it was some sort of anal fissure (basically a cut on my back passage caused from poop stretching and ripping the skin). Barely a week later I went back to the doctor for a sick note for work, but this time he told me that it seemed worse than he first thought and sent me to see a specialist.
A week later the specialist had loads of trouble examining me and said there may be an abscess behind it which was stopping the fissure from healing, he sent me straight to hospital to have the abscess drained and a couple of days later I was back out and starting to get better… until the following weekend when I noticed some major swelling on one of my ass cheeks, the doctor sent me straight back to the hospital again and it turns out that the first abscess got infected and caused another to develop. This new rather large abscess was drained and had to have all orts of padding changed each day. A few more days of extreme pain go by and I have another check up, all was going well enough until I nearly passed out a couple of times in the hospital corridor.
After another day the nurse who changes the dressing and padding in my wound noticed that faeces was leaking out of the wound in my ass cheek, so once again I was sent straight back to hospital for more tests, only this time I went to a new and better hospital. They were absolutely appalled at the work the previous hospital did, and started to run a few tests of their own. It turns out that the first abscess inside my ass and the second on the outside may have joined together, basically giving me a second ass hole, and an extremely painful one at that.
I had another operation where they looked around to see what was wrong and to try and stop the faeces leaking out of the wrong hole. Things were going well once again, the pain was going away and so was the blood. The hospital called in a specialist just to make sure they didn’t miss anything and I had yet another operation a couple of days later… where they found several more abscesses and drained them too, including one that was right behind my ballsack, which caused me to be in even more pain than ever. The next day they arranged an MRI scan to get a better picture of just what’s going on down there.
At the moment they’re saying that I may have something called crohns disease, which is just a bad inflammation of the bowels which can cause a large amount of abscesses and can be treated through a mixture of surgery and medication.
I just found out that the surgery, which they’re saying I’m very likely to have at the moment is called an Ileostomy, where they cut part of my small intestine, push it out through a hole in my belly, and attach a bag where the liquid faeces can escape, giving the abscesses, inflammation, and the large intestine time to heal. I’ve been told that if I have this done the bag could be attached to me anywhere between 3-6 months
It’s safe to say that I’m currently scared out of my mind because of all these surgical procedures that may or may not still happen, I just don’t know what to do with myself. I just want to go home and be with my friends and family, especially at this time of year.
On top of all that I’m also bored out of my mind doing almost nothing but laying in bed day after day after day, I was just lucky to be able to get this wireless dongle thing working as best I can to temporarily get back on the internet.
More updates to follow depending on what happens over the next several days.

back from hospital again...
Posted 15 years agoTurns out that there was a problem after the last minor surgery which caused me to get an infection, most probably because they forgot to give me any anti-biotics. This infection caused me to develop a massive abcess in a rather sensitive place. So I needed to stay back at the hospital again to have it drained, and now every day for the next week or so I hve to go back and forth to the doctors to have the dressing pulled out and changed... which hurts like hell.
All I can do while I'm like this at the moment is lay in bed recovering, which can get quite boring after a while, mybe i'll try re-playing a good long RPG to pass the time.

These past few weeks have been aweful
Posted 15 years agoIt's a long story and I Won't go into any of the gross details or what exactly was wrong but basically i've been back and forth to the doctor more times than I can count, and there's still a few more appointments left later this week. As well as that I also had to spend a few days in hospital for a bunch of basic tests and some minor surgery. I've been in loads of pain but ever since I got out of hospital things seem to be very very slowly getting better, though the pain is still currently quite bad.
There is a good side to all this though I guess, it does mean I get to take several weeks off work, which is especially good at the minute since it means I don't have to spend ages travelling to and from work in the snow :P
In any case I'm hoping that I'll be feeling better soon and will be up and running around again in no time.
EDIT Bad news, just found out that I have to be rushed back to hospital tonight, not sure how long i'll be there. T_T

Hatsune Miku hologram, just looked up some video, omg wow X3
Posted 15 years agoI've been seeing and hearing quite a lot of stuff in the news over the past week of so about the whole Hatsune Miku hologram thing, the pictures in the newspaper looked quite good so I tried looking up some video online, I know it's probably old news by now, but still, holy crap it looks freaking amazing. X3
Stuff I like to watch / listen to
Posted 15 years agoHiya all.
Well I haven’t updated my journal in ages, really need to try writing something here every now and then, and of course try to draw something too as soon as I get some motivation back which hopefully won’t take long. ^^
For now though I think I’ll just go ahead and post a few online shows that I like to either watch or listen to. Who knows, maybe if someone checks out a few of these they’ll enjoy them too, or maybe it’ll spark a bit of discussion about whether people think some of these shows are either good or bad etc.

It begins!! :D
Posted 15 years agoJust replacing an old journal entry again, and what better thing to do it with than this.
Just quickly skimmed through the first episode of the new digimon series, Xros Wars. I don't really know what was going on yet until I see a subbed version but at first I wasn't sure what to make of the show, it didn't really pull me in to begin with, however after several minutes it became quite good. The animation was beautifully done.
Also, for the macro fans out there, the first episode has a quick growth piece towards the end. :P
I would say more but I don't want to give away any spoilers, even though I'm not really sure what was going on anyway at the moment. :P
Oh and here's the intro if anyone wants to check it out. :D

Steam
Posted 15 years agoHiya all, I've been trying to use Steam for a while now after seeing some of the games available for it, but have been having a few problems and wondered if anyone here can help out.
I've managed to install Steam on the family computer easily enough and it works fine, though it's too slow to really play any games. So instead I've been repeatedly trying to install it on my own computer, it installs just fine but when I start it up I get the usual updating screen/status bar, once it reaches 26% or 27% it freezes and won't go any higher no matter how long I've tried leaving it.
After looking around I heard that deleting the .blob file and trying again will fix the problem, but it still freezes.
I also tried the Steam help pages but my antivirus/firewall keeps blocking it, telling me that the page contains a virus, so i'm not too sure what else to try to get this program to work.
Any suggestions? ^^

Back from Confuzzled
Posted 15 years agoAs I mentioned in a previous journal I recently went to the Confuzzled convention here in the UK, here’s a quick description of what happened over the weekend. I don’t expect people to read the whole thing but I thought I’d post up my view of the con anyway. ^^
Friday
I set off for the convention at around 12pm, the trip took a little over two hours so I was planning to arrive just in time for registration, that way I could get my room key, put my bags away, and head out to enjoy the rest of the con. Upon arrival however at exactly 2pm there were apparently a few problems which delayed registration, leaving a massive line which snaked all around the outside of the building and was getting longer by the minute. Many people were repeatedly heading to the bar for glass after glass of beer which hopefully made the time fly by for them. :P
Luckily I was close to the front of the line, but since I was carrying a couple of heavy bags it was unbelievably rough on my back.
So registration finally opened almost two hours later sometime after 4pm, the doors opened and people moved inside only to wait in yet another line, luckily this one moved much more quickly and people were in and out within a few short minutes. I received my badge and goody bag which included the conbook, event timetable, stickers, sweets, a metal tag with a pawprint design, a fur covered glowstick, and a really cool black cup which changes to a picture of brock the badger doing science stuff when hot water is poured into it.
I found my room quickly, it was small but still quite nice, it had a large bed, a tv, a kettle, a bathroom, everything I basically needed for a short stay.
After taking a moment to get settled it was time to head out into the con. There were still plenty of people in line trying to register but most people who had already done it had flocked to the bar for more beer.
There were plenty of fursuit around, a couple that I recognised right away were Snirf and Timduru who were doing their usual crazy stuff.
The opening ceremony was also running a bit late because of the whole registration issue but people didn’t have to wait too long. Everyone crowded into the room where the con staff welcomed everyone, introduced themselves and the guests of honour.
Later that evening the dances began, though I didn’t go to any of them this night, I’m an absolutely terrible dancer, by which I mean I’ve never actually tried to do it. XD
At the same time there was a room which had some DDR mats set up for people to play with, I watched a few people do well on some songs which looked almost impossible, especially when they set the arrows to rotate.
This was pretty much it for Friday, at this point it was midnight so I decided to turn in for the night to prepare for the madness that Saturday will bring.
Saturday
On Saturday morning I ended up oversleeping a bit, which is actually normal for me most days. I ended up missing the ‘meet the guest of honour’ panel since I slept in too long but was awake just in time for the dealers den to open. There were plenty of good artists showing off their works and some amazing items being shown off for the auction. I was hoping to try and get a husky style tail to wear around the con but unfortunately couldn’t find any. I did get a traditional badge commission from a talented artist called Shema, and tried to get an engraved metal tag as a gift for Dragonien from someone else with one of his pictures on it, the tag is proving to be more tricky than I originally thought but hopefully the guy making it will be able to make the picture show up. I’ll more than likely check out the den again tomorrow and see if I can get a few more commissions
After lunch I headed off to the ‘cartoon workshop’ panel where we were shown how to draw furry characters in a cartoony style. I learned quite a lot from this panel, I’ve got so used to drawing in my own style that doing anything in a more cartoony way is more difficult that I would have thought.
A little later I went down to the ‘T-Shirt drawing’ panel where people were doing exactly what the title would suggest, even though there were only around ten people at this panel they ran out of shirts almost right away so a few people including myself were left to watch. Watching was fun enough though as everyone there was pretty lively and fun to hang around with.
Next came the really fun part, the ‘furrylimpics’, where teams of fursuiters were competing against each other in various games. The first game involved two teams throwing rings onto poles which were held by people in the audience. The next game was a big game of Jenga which lasted far longer than anyone expected, so in the end a time limit was added. The teams in the next game had to throw small bean bags into a bucket which was set up to lift a cage containing a plush labrat when enough weight was added, the teams had to lift the cage as quick as they could. Next up was a DNA themed balloon pop game where the teams were given a fake table of elements and had to pop the correct balloon which related to that element when it was read out. The final and funniest event was a space hopper race, the teams had to race from one end of the room to the other on a space hopper, it sounds funny enough but when the fursuiters started falling and rolling around as they raced it only made it even more funny.
A couple of hours later the pawpets started their show, I was surprised by just how popular they were, they put on a top quality performance full of comedy and mad science, at the end of the show the audience was cheering and applauding like crazy, everyone there seemed to really enjoy the show.
Once it was over everyone went back to the bars and nightclubs to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Sunday
Sunday morning started out with the ‘fursuit construction’ panel, where a couple of fursuit makers talked about the different styles and designs used in creating suits, including the different types of foam, fur, padding, and eyes, good ventilation methods, various types of leg styles, and more.
After that I went over to the ‘Science Experiments’ area where a several fun experiments were set up for people to play around with, there was some aqua sand (or whatever it’s called), the opportunity to be inside a giant bubble, a tesla coil, and much more. It’s hard to find something more funny than a fursuiter or a person with long hair touching the coil and seeing their hair/fur stand on end before they go and give someone a shock just by touching them.
The next panel I attended was called ‘Frankensuits’ where four teams had to quickly make the best suits they could out of scraps of fabric/fur, the results of this panel were great and so funny. The suits they all made would then go and take part in the fursuit parade.
The fursuit parade came next, it was a good chance to see everyones suits, and there were so many of them too, they made their way through the hotel, then outside along the path which leads to the hotel, and back again. There was a brief moment afterwards where everyone had a chance to take pictures of all the suits as they gathered together out in front of the hotel.
There were quite a few panels running after the parade but the one I decided to join was the ‘Origami Workshop’ where everyone followed the instructions to build different types of paper planes and animals, I was able to make the first plane alright but when it came to the paper dinosaur I really messed it up when following the instructions.
Before the origami panel finished however I had to quickly get down to the dealers den to pick up a few things. The tag I was going to get for Dragonien didn’t go too well since the lines on the pic I provided were too thin to show up, instead I got a couple of dogtags, a gold one with my name on it and a red one as a gift for Dragonien with his name on it.
The conbage from Shema is absolutely beautiful, it turned out better than I ever hoped, she’s a wonderful artist and if you have time go check out her page at http://www.furaffinity.net/user/shema
After the dealers den closed the ‘whose yerf is it anyway’ panel started, as you’d probably expect it’s their version of the popular TV show ‘whose line is it anyway’. The time just flew by here.
After dinner the art auction began, I was surprised by how much some of the things sold for, and I think everyone was amazed by how much the huge picture drawn by Tani DaReal on a tablecloth sold for, it beat the total for last years con auction and the year before all on its own, I think in the end it eventually sold for a little over £2300, after which the audience thundered their applause.
At this point it was late at night so everyone started going back to the bars and dances to party the final night of the convention away.
Monday
It’s Monday, it’s the last day few hours of the convention and most people are packing their things ready to go back home. First though there was a feedback session where people commented on what they thought of the con, what was good, what could have been done better, and any improvements that people could suggest for next year.
Once most people had checked out of their rooms around 11am they proceeded into the main stage area for the closing ceremony, everyone was able to give the staff, volunteers, and any other people who made the con possible another huge round of applause before going outside for a group photo.
After the photo everyone headed back out into the hotel lobby where they said their goodbyes and headed home.
It was a fantastic convention, it’s the first one I’ve been to and will definitely be coming back for future years. The panels, the staff, the guests, they were all so much fun to be around, the weekend just flew by. It’s a shame that it has to end so soon but if it didn’t the con staff would probably pass out from exhaustion.
So thanks to the people who made the convention so enjoyable, I hope I’ll be able to see everyone there again next year. ^^

First Convention
Posted 15 years agoYep, towards the end of next week I'll be heading off to my first ever furry convention, I'll be going to Confuzzled up in Manchester, it's only a short drive away and from the looks of all the pictures and videos from last year it should be fun.
I'm excited about going, it'll give me a chance to see and meet plenty more furs from the UK, though naturally i'm a little nervous since i've never been to anything like this before.
While I'm there i'll try to take a few pictures and video to show off once i'm back. :D
On another note, if you haven't seen them already, be sure to check out darkblazez comics, they're awesome, and he should know just how good they are. His latest ones even feature a certain big red dragon too. ;) check out his site here http://www.stcomic.com/

request sketch results
Posted 15 years agoAlrighty, earlier I wrote everyone's name who commented in my last journal about the request slots onto some post-it notes, put them in a hat and fished out a couple at random just to make it fair.
The names that came out were
sabledrachen and
KingDead so i'll be getting to drawing their requests later today.
Some of those requests though were really cool, I'm sooooo tempted to draw some of them anyway at some point, but for now i think i'll just stick with the ones that came out of the hat and probably open some more requests soon, so if your request didn't come out there's always a chance it will if you want to try again next time. :)

2 free quick sketch request slots. :o
Posted 15 years ago(EDIT): request slots have been filled
I've had a bit of free time lately and been tempted to draw something macro/micro related, but my mind is blank at the moment.
Soooo, since I still have a day off work tomorrow I thought I may do a couple of quick request sketches if anyone is interested.
Just remember though that it's only going to be a sketch, so try not to expect something amazingly detailed. :P
I'll only be taking two sketch requests for the moment, however if this goes well enough I may try to do this sort of thing again when I have some more free time.
Try not to make the requests too adult, nudity is still ok though. The theme should also be macro/micro for this couple of requests.
If anyone is interested just leave a comment saying what you'd like including a description or link to a pic of any characters. I'll pick a couple at random tomorrow which stand out and start working on them in the afternoon. :)

New Digimon? :o
Posted 15 years agoI needed to push an old journal aside, so this should be a good replacement. :P
While I was browsing the net for anime info/news earlier I stumbles across a bit of recent news about what could be a new digimon series. I have no idea how reliable the info/picture is though, but fans of digimon may want to keep an eye on it to see what happens. After all it could be great to have another series right? :D

Plugging an awesome artists auction.
Posted 15 years agoWell I needed to push my old jounal aside with something, so what better way than to help someone out by plugging their art auction.
Crux is holding a valentines art auction over on Furbuy, if you're interested in checking it out here's a link to the guys post http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3364562/

New equipment has arrived! :D
Posted 15 years agoSince my old equipment wasn't compatable with Windows 7 I was forced to upgrade to some newer stuff. Finally got it all set up not too long ago and was surprised at how much better it all runs compared to my old equipment. The scanner is faster, has more options, and even edits the pics a bit to get the best quality as it scans.
The graphics tablet was a bit of a pain to install due to some driver issues but got it working in the end, it's more sensitive, has more options, and the pen looks like it's built a bit stronger than the old design.
Also had to get an updated version of photoshop elements too, it seems to run about the same as the older version i had, but it also has odd difference here and there which will take some getting used too. :P
I know i'm probably a bit late saying this but I hope you all had a great new year and that 2010 is a good year for you all. :)
