Posted 3 years agoI haven't posted here on FA since September of 2020?! Eek. Mostly I have been sewing sea pancakes, and when I make the same thing over and over, I don't need to keep taking photos and posting. So that explains most of the absence. But I was just looking through some photos and I realized I have... let's see... 11(!) crochet projects that I've finished since my last post that never got posted here! I'm working on turning those photos into collages and then I'll be posting them :) Unfortunately, since none of them were super recent projects, I can't remember all the details of them. Like pet names/genders. So some of the descriptions will likely be short. But it's the photos that you're here for anyway!
Current Commission Status and Queue

I'm currently not taking any new custom orders as I'm maxed out on holiday work! I expect things to quiet down a bit after the holidays.
What's currently on my plate:
1. One large doll with accessory - mostly done, just needs the tail and a few details, plus the accessory
2. One medium tabby doll - mostly done, just needs the head and some little details. Holiday order!
3. One medium character doll - not started yet
Ongoing: I try to keep my sea pancake plushies in stock at all times on Etsy since they're by far my best seller. Demand for them over summer was at a nice pace, and now with the holidays, they're keeping me busier than ever! I've gotten faster at making them, too, which is super helpful. It used to take me more than a day to make one. Now I can make three in two days
I hope everyone's doing well out there!

Posted 7 years agoIt's been a year and a half since I posted a journal! Anyway, I'm looking for any input on what kinds of things people would like to see me make. I normally have a steady flow of commissions at any given time, but January and February so far have been pretty slow and I've just been making pre-made things for sale. I was thinking about making some more things besides cats and dogs. The axolotls I made last year were popular, so I was thinking about making another one soon. Are there any animal species you think would be interesting? Or also things like Pokémon.

It's the first time I'll be spending AC in this hotel. But I used to live near Pittsburgh, and I have vague memories of its lobby. In the past, I've stayed at the Westin. Should be fun to try something new :)
What day are you getting there?
Flying into Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 28th. Flying out on July 19th So I'll be at every day of AC!
Transportation?
Plane! Flying by Southwest this time.
Who will you hang with during the convention?
Roommates, and I'm not sure who all will be attending this year! Comment below if you're going!
Will you be suiting?
Of course!

As long as you're friendly and respectful! I'm not the best at small talk but there are so many people at AC who are always friendly, and there's the usual ice breaker questions like "where'd you travel in from, how many cons have you been to before, etc". My roommates and I talk every year about wanting to meet and hang out with new people. As far as I know, I'm the only one suiting this year, so I'm up for suiting with people! And all four of us love spending time in the zoo arting with people, especially in the evenings. Are they bringing back the old zoo again this year? I know last year they moved it to a larger room but we didn't like the room.
How can I find you?
You can keep an eye out for the suit, or we could make arrangements to meet up ahead of time somewhere! I think every year I say I'll tweet or post somewhere my whereabouts from time to time throughout the con, but I get so caught up, that never happens. I'll be checking here at least every evening or so during the con.
Can I visit your room?
Nah, it's out of the way and it's a quiet space.
Can I buy you drinks?
I don't drink. But you could buy me a drink from a vending machine c:
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Please don't touch me unless I'm in suit. I was more liberal with hugging strangers out of suit in the past and it didn't always end nicely. If I'm in suit, then hugs are great!

I'm not much of a party person, especially if there are a LOT of people and drinking.

There's this Thai place that I went to last year that was really good. I want to go there again. Called Nicky's Thai Kitchen. The crispy peanut tofu is what I got and loved so much. Other than that - every year I get french fries in the dealers den at some point. I also always end up at Subway each year, with various people. It's a quick lunch, you know.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc.
Maybe! I've eaten with new people in the past! But probably not for dinners. Dinners will be with roommates.

Posted 9 years agoI finally made an Instagram account that's just for crochet! I've been wanting to make one for awhile but couldn't settle on a name (I ended up naming it after one of my cats, lol). I feel like I would get a lot more activity/followers on a dedicated theme account, rather than continuing to post dolls mixed in with my personal account. FURSUITERS GOING TO ANTHROCON please look
Posted 10 years agoI wasn't sure whether I wanted to make this journal or not. I'm sort of hemming and hawing over what I want to do as far as suiting at AC goes. For the past three years, I've attended AC and stayed with three friends in the Westin. This year, to save money, the friends that always secure the hotel room decided to save the money since they live like 10 minutes from the con anyway, and we'll just drive back and forth each day.
Anyway, so. I'm trying to figure out how things will go with me and my suit without a hotel room to either store it in or change in and out of it in. There are the headless lounges, if nothing else, for changing. I'm not really comfortable leaving it or any part of it unattended in a room like that, though.
the point of this journal is- is there anyone with a room who would be ok with me suiting up in your room (with you there of course, I wouldn't want to poke around someone's room alone). And maybe storing the suit in your room at times? I feel like I would still carry the head around with me. Also, is there anyone who'd be interested in fursuiting with me? The groups that I've suited with in the past, I'm not sure if ANYone will be at AC this year. I keep checking people's pages and seeing notice after notice of "not going to AC this year". I don't want to be a sad sand cat all alone! ToT
I'm too shy to ask anyone directly, because I know how awkward it can be to have to say no if you're not comfortable opening up your room. I'm a small, quiet person.

A short intermisson
Posted 10 years agoJust a heads up, I will be out of town from February 1st to the 8th! I'm leaving behind this Massachusetts blizzard weather and jetting down to sunny Florida!
Anyway, that means my Etsy shop is on vacation mode and I will be unable to ship anything out until I return. I have been making pre-made dolls lately, to put in my shop. Posted 11 years agoI know I've been a bit scarce here lately, but I should have a new piece to post soon! I've been working on an order for a Quest Ram, from Minecraft. It looks really nice so far! Rams are fun to make.
If I don't have any new orders after this ram, I'm thinking I'll make a few things for Etsy. After working on this large order for so long, I'm in the mood to whip up something quick. Maybe a squid or two, but specifically the posey kind with wire in their arms. I like those. I was also in the mood to make another ringtail lemur. I want to make another one of those every time I look at pictures of the original! Or a spotted hyena, that was popular.

POST-AC
Posted 11 years agoHeyyy friends. Anthrocon ended a week ago! I guess I could make a post about it!
This year's AC was a bit lazy for me. I kind of regret not getting out and doing more things, but at the same time, I did really enjoy the things that I did do. I really loved just goofing around in my hotel room with my roommates (vombatiformes, arpad, and scriber). I set my alarm for Saturday but it didn't go off, so this was the first time I've been to a con with a suit and wasn't in the parade. (I woke up at 1:45pm, when housekeeping knocked on my door! I didn't say anything or answer the door, I just pulled the covers over my head and pretended to still be asleep. So housekeeping came in, apologized, and left.)

This year's AC was a bit lazy for me. I kind of regret not getting out and doing more things, but at the same time, I did really enjoy the things that I did do. I really loved just goofing around in my hotel room with my roommates (vombatiformes, arpad, and scriber). I set my alarm for Saturday but it didn't go off, so this was the first time I've been to a con with a suit and wasn't in the parade. (I woke up at 1:45pm, when housekeeping knocked on my door! I didn't say anything or answer the door, I just pulled the covers over my head and pretended to still be asleep. So housekeeping came in, apologized, and left.)

Posted 11 years agoHey guys! Just a little update on what I'm up to. I am currently in Florida (instead of at home in Massachusetts) because my dad has an annual work conference down here, so he wanted to bring me along for fun (I would not call the conference itself fun; it is brutally white bread). Next week will be spent in Orlando.
I'll be back home on May 17th, and then I will have A WHOLE MONTH at home to be productive! I brought supplies with me to work on my current order :) Etsy shop is on vacation mode until the 17th! On JUNE 17th, I fly out to Pittsburgh to spend time with my best friends in the whole wide world, vombatiformes and arpad! That will culminate in the three of us going to Anthrocon.

Shop Name? So indecisive.
Posted 11 years agoI have been trying to decide on a new Etsy shop name forever. I am so indecisive. You can only change your name once, so I don't want to pick something stupid. The original name, SandyKatKrochet is stupid.
As of right now, the shop consists of all crocheted animal dolls. In the future, it might also include patterns for animal dolls, and possibly needle felt animal dolls (if I ever get around to improving on that).
A few months back, I had thought about just naming it "Feral". Easy to say, spell, remember. Trying to tell people, face-to-face, that my shop name is Sandy Kat Krochet, with Ks, is a nightmare. So I tried to change the name to Feral tonight, and Etsy just told me that the name is already taken (I thought it wasn't, because https://www.etsy.com/people/feral is an inactive link). Oh well.
I found this little article:

with some good points to think over. Maybe Feral is too generic.
My mom keeps suggesting things with "creations" or "designs" or similar in the name and I do not want that.

Posted 11 years agoJust a little note to say that I'm back from my travels, and back to work!
I had a good time in NYC - went to a couple shows (Cinderella and Matilda), went to the natural history museum, bought some excellent new shoes (Dr. Martens Shoreditch), ate many desserts from the nearby bakery, and by the second half of the week, I caught the plague. Oops.
I feel a lot better now. Just a little tired.

Posted 11 years agoI'm going to be out of town for a week, from Feb. 22nd to March 1st! Gonna take over Manhattan. Eat delicious desserts at Fluffy's. Go to museums and/or Broadway and/or other delightful activities, such as shopping.
