It was cute at first, but the fur shortage is annoying
General | Posted 14 years agoI just got off the phone with CRS craft (I get at least 50% of my fur there) and parts of a bulk order of mine are still backordered after 3 months.
The good news is, CRS said "next week". The bad news is, they have said that before, and I ended up waiting another month.
As you can imagine, this can be rather frustrating. While waiting for very common furs we have started lots of projects prematurely to have a head start when the materials arrive. So I have like 6 unfurred heads staring at me all day. I would use DF, but there are just so many colors, and textures they don't offer. Not to mention most of the projects have something finished (paws, tail, body) in CRS stuff.
So, I figure I would at least ask around, and have a back up plan if we run into more delays.
if you have any furs hidden in the closet, namely these.
-CRS brown heather
-CRS bone
-CRS nutmeg
If you have any of those, and you don't need them for your own project, I would be willing to buy it off of you.
I am also looking for matching dye lots of some of my older fur I had bought in bulk.
Feel free to leave me a comment, or email me.

Need fursuit repair at FWA? Just call. Also, updates..
General | Posted 14 years agoHey all!
I will be available for repair work at FWA for a few hours every day. I will charge a rate of 30 bucks an hour for non-TCF suits. TCF suits can be repaired for free.
The services include.
-Touch up airbrushing
-Machine sewing
-Re-gluing
-Minor fabrication (new buckram for eyes, spare claws, etc)
-Zipper repair
If it is something not listed above, I may be able to help. keeping in mind I will only be taking on small projects, and if it is too big of a job I reserve the right to turn down work.
It is all first come, first serve. You can wait as I work if you like.
As mentioned, it will be for no more than a few hours a day, so call to find out if I can help.
Add this number to your phone. It couldn't hurt to have it on you if you had a fursuit emergency at a con.
407 504 9416
Other things to keep in mind. Many makers have different techniques that may not be compatible with the materials I bring. Though I stand by my work, I could very well be voiding your suit's current warranty. Be sure to ask your maker before hand. Almost every maker I have met is willing to repair your suit. I would recommend you talk to them if you have time to before the con. as they know your suit in and out, and better than I ever could. Think of me as an emergency service.
This can be a rather touchy subject for some makers, as you can step on toes for more invasive repairs. I wanted to mention that point, and for the record state that I respect trade secrets. If you are a maker, and don't want me to fix your suits, or just have general concerns, give me a call or email. We can chat about it, maybe set up some rules, and make sure we nip concerns in the bud before they become problems.
I plan on doing this on any cons I drive to. In the future I will most likely have a dealers table. This was just something we came up with a little late to set up a dealers table at FWA.
On the day to day stuff.
Thanks again for all of you who helped put me passed that oh so ego inflating 3000 watcher mark. I will try to not let it go to my head. I have an admitted tendency to get a little cocky when I get attention. First off, I admit it. Second off, I am my own worst critic, and soon will knock myself down a peg.
So, let me ride out this high for at least a few days. As I need a little positive re-enforcement from time to time :P
Especially because I will need a good attitude this month, as we are entering our 6 day work week for FWA production.
What that means is that for the next month until FA I will be a little harder than usual to catch. Emails will take a little longer, comments with questions may not get an answer, and I will inch closer to type 2 diabetes with my intake of fast food and energy drinks.
Very important here.
If you need me quickly, you may have to call me.
I have a line that is 24/7
407 504 9416
I can get texts, and I will do my best to stay on top of that. Just make sure if you leave a message that you leave all of your contact info, including who you are, why you are calling, and how/when I can call you back.
To minimize shipping costs I will be taking suits with me to FWA.
I think that's it.
I hope to see you all at FWA this year,
Have an awesome day!

Admittedly, I missed a few emails last week..
General | Posted 14 years agoThe week after cons are always a tad more busy than normal for my modest inbox. After FC I had, oh.. about 50ish to get to.
Mostly quotes, questions, and keeping up with existing customers.
I will be the first to admit I am not amazing with emails, I get to them after the work day, and allot around an hour to get everything caught up. Not to mention I tend to check emails on my phone when I am not in a position to respond fully. During busier weeks it is not as easy to find the time to sit down and answer every inquiry. So, before, during, and after cons we really do work more hours than usual, and the time simply is not there in a day. With such an emphasis on production, it's easy to overlook a few emails here in there.
I think the easiest way to confront a problem is to just admit it, and go from there.
We are going to bring back the website. This will at least cover many of the FAQ I get. The main reason we took it down in the first place was because we had more than enough business. To top it off I initially wanted to be there for every question, and be the maker you could talk to anytime. Make sure that there was a one on one kind of connection, even for the simple stuff. At first it was fine, but as we became much busier as we grew this became almost impossible. And yes, it was a little short sighted to think I could handle every little question personally. But that's a big part of what I set out to do, and had I the choice, I would continue to do just that.
One other thing I intend to do is get a part time office helper. Just somebody to make sure everything is up to date, and all the details get the attention they need. I already have a person ready to go on this one, I just need to work them into the system.
The last thing I want to do is apologize to anyone that has trouble reaching me.

Fuck you, Breaking Bad
General | Posted 14 years agoI was doing the thing where I was waiting for the new season to premier before I finished up season 4 of Breaking Bad. That way, if it left of at some unfulfilled cliff hanger I would not have to wait to see what happened.
I cheated, and in a fit of desperation I continued on watching while I worked tonight.
I regret that choice.
I, of course, got all the way to the end without even realizing it. The went to click the next episode.
None to be found.
So, yes, I will not have to wait as long as the rest of th world to see what happens next, i will still have to be not only mad at the network for only creating 10 episodes a season, but mad at myself for watching the all too quickly.
Ugh...
I still can't believe I did that...

now with more updates!
General | Posted 14 years agoI noticed that I have really neglected my FA for too long now. As I write this I am only one watcher away from 3000. I think it's time I started sharing a bit more of what goes into making costumes on a day to day.
On that note, I also noticed that with my current posting frequency I am only posting some finished suits, and have been skipping over all the little projects. Not only that, I am missing more than a few finished suits in my Gallery. That added to the fact that more than one suit is being made at a time, and it looks like things are much more subdued than they are.
On another note. I always loved looking at other artist work spaces. With this you can start to see more than a messy table as a backdrop.
What this means is I am going to post more of whatever. If I am working on it, I am going to start posting it. It may grow to be annoying, it may not pan out, but I am giving it a try.
So, ve sure to keep an eye on your submissions if you are into that kind of thing.

Hey, Commission slot not open.
General | Posted 14 years agoOpen soon!
two strikes shy, tomorrow is Festivus
General | Posted 14 years agoMan, today before work I went to bowl for my morning warm ups, and practice. I had 10 strikes in a row. 10.... Just 2 away from a perfect game.. Sure, I was a little peeved that I didn't get it.. but still.. I was happy to be well on my way to my first 300 game. Hell, I have only been bowling for about 5 months.
Ether way, I had an awesome day at work all day, and am still working right now, and I see no signs of stopping.
I got those stupid antlers done. I have 2 heads foamed, and everything is just clicking. I really needed something like that lately.
Other news,
Electronics are hard.
Our furry bowling Monday nights are shaping up to be a hit. We took over a league, and almost 40% of the league is furries. Come on down.
My significant other scored some major brownie points at the mere mention of a geodesic dome for housing.
I have not done any holiday shopping... at all..
Tomorrow is Festivus. Make sure to have your non-holiday comfort feast in order.

Bowling, Van Halen, and the day to day.
General | Posted 14 years agoHey all.
I figured I have been aloof for long enough. well, maybe. No promises, as the computer is really too distracting for me to be productive.
So, as I have mentioned in the past, I am on a bowling league on Mondays now. We need a few more people to fill up a few slots. If you have ever wanted to get better at bowling there is no better way to do it. If you live in Orlando, and have Mondays off, hit me up.
Today I have really rekindled my love of Van Halen (David Lee Roth Era, of course). To honor this joyous occasion I have quickly pulled an Image of David Lee Roth off of the internet, and made a crude avatar for the next day or so. Enjoy!
On the fursuit front I have been busier than ever before with experimental stuff. I have to admit, I did like being up to a fursuit done every week and a half for a bit. It meant much more work out the door, and is much less stressful. Even saying that I do prefer to always doing something new on every suit, It keeps the work far less static. Not to mention that when something works out, or is done it feel much more rewarding. With my tendency to pick hard projects it has been quite a challenge to keep my frequency high enough. That, with my lack of computer time has made my page look like a ghost town. I do realize that frequency of posting, and a quick turnaround is very important. So, I hope to meet half way, and I should start posting more WIP, and things lie that. Just to keep it interesting.
Other than that. Life has been fairly Groovy. Nothing to crazy. I guess that is what happens when you get a little older. The goals are not as short term, and to reach them takes much more focus. Every little project just creates a small part of the bigger picture. I guess it has been hat way all along. Lots of us just start to notice that a little later than sooner.
If you don't hear form me, have a Happy holidays!

New High Score!
General | Posted 14 years agoI forgot to mention.
The other night at bowling I scored a 240. Not too bad.
This, of course is just one step closer to my 300 game. Considering I have only been doing this for the better part of 4 or 5 months tops, I feel that the a 240 is at least somewhat noteworthy.
Yeah.... Really into bowling lately.. What's up with that?

last surviving WWI vet.
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Green
There is only one person left who took part in WWI.
A few years back I was interested to see how many WWI vets where still alive. about once every few weeks I like to check. When I checked this morning I realized Florence Green was the last one.

Fursuit for sale, Ships to MFF
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270851625395#ht_796wt_1396
I am selling Pete after all.
I really wanted to keep him, but with three other suits of my own floating around I figure somebody else will have more fun with him.
I am willing to do some alterations to make it fit whoever buys it. That includes new hands and feet made to order.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Good luck!

Craigslist spammers

So, please, let's just once let them know that they can't get away with that.

Rabbit fursuit for sale.
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, maybe.
I am thinking about selling my bunny fursuit.
I have not really had the time to suit very much anymore, and I hate to see him just laying around.
I am still on the fence, but if anyone really likes him I would not mind letting him go.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6264801/
If you are interested email me.
thecritterfactory[at]gmail.com
Oh, the suit will fit anyone from about 5'7"ish to 6'0" I would say 145 to 200 pounds. I an alter it, and I will most likely remake the feet.

Email backed up.
General | Posted 14 years agoWe got the internet up and running again.
Our roommate had "optimized" the router settings, that was causing me to have timeout problems, I had been unable to log into any https sites for a few days. I am just glad to have internet back up to speed.
I logged into my email after a few days... and I am very backed up.
I just wanted to say that I am catching up all day today with all those missed messages.
Yikes.

General | Posted 14 years agoI like to think that I am fairly okay with computers, so when I have trouble I don't like to admit it.
But, most of you seem to be okay with computers.
Never a bad time to learn more.
so, the problem is Google won't google. Also, Gmail will not gmail.
I can not seem to get connected to ether of the aforementioned google features.
I have been getting this error message for the last 2 days.,
" Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out."
Obviously FA is working, but it is pokey at best.
Now I would have googled this already had google worked.
Oh well. Thanks in advance.

Bowling League on Mondays, you in?
General | Posted 14 years agoHello my fuzzy friends!
Do you like bowling?
Then you should come out and bowl sometime. Or, feel free to share your bowling experiences here.
Starting the First week of December there is going to be a just for fun bowling league here. (I live in Oviedo Florida)
I have really started to become a avid bowler, and wanted to start a team. I am currently bowling Tuesday nights on a league, but wanted to get something more started.
So, if you also like bowling, let's go bowling. Or chat about bowling.
Also.
Sorry fursuiters. I am not going fursuit bowling, just the regular kind of bowling.
(though in retrospect it is odd that I a fursuit maker do not do fursuit bowling)
One last thing.
I am a big proponent of letting you freak flag fly. Sa'll good. I just ask that if you roll with me at my home ally don't rock a tail, or ears, or like overtly furry t-shirt. I just want to make this somewhat separate form the furry thing. As I work with furries for a living, it is nice to get away from it from time to time. I am aware that publicly asking people to join me on a site like FA may be a tad counter productive in that avenue. I guess the mentality is I wanted to invite fuzzies to a not so quite fuzzy thing.
Anyway, talk to me people.

Hey James Taylor, I think I like you
General | Posted 14 years agoI am fairly sure that the only way I can remove the best of James Taylor from my brain may be a bullet, or at least some crude pick device to penetrate my skull, and frontal lobes.
this dramatic realization came to me after day 4 of constant play of the best of James Taylor.
I am not sure what is worse, the fact that I cannot avoid hearing the easy listening echoing in my head. or the fact that I may earnestly like the music.
Ether way, i have concluded that you should avoid James Taylor's music for the time being.

look at doodle.
It's Mary Blair inspired.

Sick day X_x
General | Posted 14 years agoHow to make yourself sick in a few simple steps
-Forget to eat for 8 hours
-Bowl 10 games after work
-Drink two whiskey sours on empty stomach
-Drink cup of black coffee
-Purchase frozen pizza
-Eat presumably under-cooked pizza in haste
Success!
If you follow these time tested steps you too can spend the next 24 hours writhing in pain, experience dizzy spells, and curl in the fetal position to the stark realization that you are in too much gastric pain to simply pass out.
As I often tend to do, I am exaggerating. I am fine. I just had a tummy ache, and am already back in the shop sewing and sculpting and such.
I Just felt like complaining about the situation I put myself into. Any single event last night would have not been problematic. It was simply the compounded nature of my situation that resulted in some discomfort.
Though, next time I will make sure to have some pepto in the fridge.

Character design rant..
General | Posted 14 years agoI recently typed this up in a customer email when asked what was needed in a character reference sheet. I have reworded it, as the one sent was a little less dogmatic, and absolute.
Doing this job for about a year full time now you start to get opinionated. I have started to really notice a lack of cohesion in what makes a character. In the fandom we really seem to be over captivated by a few little things, where the big picture stuff seems to elude people.
Character design really comes down to a few things people don't tell you.
to be honest I never understood the fuss about markings and color. they are important, but don't hold a candle to shape and expression.
An easy example of this, look at this image. <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?q=stitch&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&biw=1680&bih=906&tbs=ic:gray&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=voPQcLakyjsTbM:&imgrefurl=http://colouringdisney.blogspot.com/2009/06/disney-coloring-pages_4162.html&docid=t1GDQCpYFeQKrM&w=300&h=400&ei=bZeETtbGLs-4tweN99lA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=633&vpy=180&dur=1936&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=106&ty=130&page=1&tbnh=158&tbnw=119&start=0&ndsp=38&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0">
I purposely did not tell you the name of this character. Why? Because you know his name already.
But how would you know that character? There is not color, there is not visible marking, you can't even tell what species it is. So, why do you know who that is?
Simple, shape.
Good character design dose not lay in color and pattern, but characteristic shape.
When I get character desighn sheets they need to look like how you would want a mascot costume to be designed. I cannot simply go off of color and type of animal. As you saw above, if you told me the color and animal (Okay, it's Stitch) Stitch was, you would get a 100% different looking character from me.
Think of it this way, Micky Mouse has a mascot suit of him, and you know it is Micky Mouse. When giving me a reference sheet be sure to give me what you want your character to look like in 3d walking around in front of you.
I can do stylized, yes. My job is not to stylize, it is to capture your character exactly how you want it. I have the technical skill to do it, but the reference to get it off the paper in in you hands is up to you to decide.
Rant over :P

commissions open soon (limited slots)
General | Posted 14 years agoWe have finished three suits that are out the door, and we are ready to take on a commission. Be sure to look for the photoshoot pics. (It has rained us out the last few times, so thank you, Florida)
At current time we are really trying to output more than we take in. We will not be taking blocks of multiple commissions for awhile. Slots are going to be fairly limited. So, it is a good time to grab a slot, as our next slots may not be open for another month.
Currently we are looking at around 7 to 9 months for completion. That put's the commission finished around AC.
If you would like a quote, or have any questions please email me @
tcfquotes[at]gmail.com
As always, thank you very much, and I look forward to new projects.

12 years later..
General | Posted 14 years agoI got a Roland Juno 106! (that is a very specific synthesizer for you non-synth geeks)
Some guy on Craigslist had it in storage for the better part of 10 years. 300 bones.. not bad for a vintage synth, especially the exact one I have always wanted.
I have wanted a Juno from the first day I started getting into synths. It is arguably the synth that got me into synths.
I waited, and waited, and lost opportunities, picked up other synths. So on and so forth for years on end.
So, recently when I had asked on if anyone on FA had a synth for trade (half jokingly, as I would not trade a full fursuit for just any old thing) I started looking on ebay to see what they where currently going for. There is one Juno 60 that is up to 800 dollars! They didn't even sell for that much new. They are actually lower end synths of the time. Nice, but not top of the line.
So, even though it was somewhat impulsive, I knew that in a few years even though I may have the money to buy one, I would be hard pressed to spend over 1000 dollars for something so novel.
Anyway, I am one happy geek.

Why do these exist to torment me..

The Nike Air Mag..
Nothing but pure gimmick.
I am not going to lie and say I know anything beyond what is offered at face value. The truth is I don't want to know.
From what I can tell, they don't auto lace (not that I would want to know if they did).
5000 dollars for a shoe that you could not, and would not dare to wear. For that price you could get a used Honda Civic (and to think we worry about fursuit prices:P )
Unpractical, gimmicky, overpriced, not even an exact copy of the BTTF II Nikes..
So, the real question is, why am I even remotely thinking about it.
I found myself (just for an impulsive moment mind you) looking around my house, sizing up a few possible unneeded items.
As I said, it was only a momentary impulse, hardly worth noting.
But why? Why even think for one split second that I could pawn off half of my belongings for unusable shoes?
I guess I am glad I have come to terms with the fact that I indeed will never own a pair of Nike Air Mags. I hope all of you here reading this will also come to terms with that. If not now, in time..
And yes, as many have said, it is going to a good cause. It dose not change the fact that 5000 dollars is out of my reach.

Will work for synths.
General | Posted 14 years agoI got back into one of my worst, most obsessive hobbies this morning.
synthesizers..
Anyone have a vintage, or just cool synth they want to rap about.
anyone have their Dad's old Moog in the baesment they would want to trade a fursuit for?
I know I shouldn't even ask.... but.. I just love those bleeping blooping keyboards so damn much..
[Minor edit]
Though I will work for synths, I have to remind you that this is a lighthearted journal. So, basically it's got to be a really cool synth for a full suit trade. It's really more of a fun post to talk about synths.
