Thank you for making Megaplex XIII awesome!
General | Posted 11 years agoAnother Megaplex has come and gone. Thank you - all 1,281 of you - for coming and enjoying the furry festivities with us for a truly amazing year!
Attendees came from far and wide: 38 states, plus D.C. and Puerto Rico, and 7 other countries. Here was our attendance breakdown at the time The Candy Factory gates were closed:
Attending - 821
Sponsor - 125
Super Sponsor - 62
Giga Sponsor - 2
Guests - 9
Staff - 55
Friday - 22
Saturday - 137
Sunday - 28
Dance passes - 20
We owe special praise to our dedicated staff members and volunteers, who meticulously kept the show running behind the scenes all weekend long. We also owe heaps of gratitude to our wonderful guests of honor, Mary Mouse & Tani DaReal, for their immense contributions of artwork and programming time. Not to mention our performing guests Fox Amoore, Rhubarb the Bear, Husky In Denial and Pepper Coyote, as well as all the DJs and panel and event hosts who brought great entertainment to the convention, and artists who spent the time putting together all of the work you saw in the hallways and took home with you in the con book. Thank you!!
As we bid a bittersweet farewell to the Candy Factory, we have a few final announcements to share:
Firstly, we're already brainstorming to make Megaplex XIV: Cops & Robbers the greatest Megaplex yet! Mark your calendars: The convention returns to the Orlando Airport Marriott for July 31 - August 2, 2015.
We're paying close attention to our survey responses and trying to get as much feedback as we can get, in order to keep our con as enjoyable as possible. One of the many common suggestions, for example, is for a more orderly Artist Alley, so we are already we're fleshing out plans to make it happen. If you haven't taken part in our survey, please do! The more feedback we can get about what we did right and what we did wrong, the better we can prepare for Megaplex 2015.
Please fill out our feedback survey at: https://megaplexcon.org/survey
Interested in helping out Megaplex next year? We'll be expanding our staff as the convention keeps growing. To apply, please fill out the form at: https://megaplexcon.org/staffapp
We'll also be on the lookout for art to feature in our con book and elsewhere. Keep an eye out for more announcements on that front. Remember, our 2015 theme will be Cops & Robbers.
If you got home after the convention and realized you're missing something important of yours, please send an email to mp-lostfound@megaplexcon.org, and include a description of the missing item so we can see if we have it.
If you took home a Megaplex 2014 t-shirt, please check to make sure that the design is not peeling off after it has gone through the wash. We received a bad batch of t-shirts and we're working with our printer to have bad shirts replaced. If you have a bad shirt, please follow the instructions here: https://megaplexcon.org/node/393
Did you take photos or video of Megaplex that you'd like to share? We keep an archive of Megaplex memories, and would be thrilled if you can help us build this year's collection. Please follow these steps to share your media with us: https://archives.megaplexcon.org/uploadpics
The archives are located at http://archives.megaplexcon.org/albums/ - Please note that the archive page is temporarily under construction as we're in the process of replacing our gallery software. You can peruse the content available in the meantime.
Thank you all for a great year! We can't wait to see you again!

Damaged shirts
General | Posted 11 years agoUPDATE: To replace a bad shirt please follow the instructions at https://megaplexcon.org/node/393
Thanks!
Hi all,
We've received several complaints that the design on your Megaplex 2014 t-shirts is flaking off after the shirt's first wash. We've contacted our printer and they have acknowledged that there may have been a bad batch. We're working with them to get replacements out to anyone with a damaged shirt. It may take some time.
Thanks for your patience and understanding!

The Opening Ceremonies Charity Challenge...
General | Posted 11 years agoWith Megaplex just around the corner, we thought we would share a little information with you about our charity fund raising efforts.
Between the last two years combined, Megaplex attendees generously raised $8,295 for The C.A.R.E. Foundation. We think it's possible to do much better than that. So we have really pushed ourselves in creative ways to think about how we can help raise money for charity. We're organizing a fursuit bucket brigade, and we have some really rare and nice items that will be in the charity auction. BUT...there's one more thing we haven't publicly revealed until now!
To really help raise money for charity, we will have a little "challenge" at Opening Ceremonies (Friday morning at 10:00) for everyone to take part in. Folks will have the opportunity to donate cash to the charity, aiming for a modest goal of $500 before the end of Opening Ceremonies. And what exactly happens if that goal is met? Well, we approached our co-chairman and Master of Ceremonies KP with a special idea. It took a lot of coercion (and quite a few drinks) to pry some semblance of an agreement from him, but if we raise our first $500 at Opening Ceremonies, KP will begrudgingly don a new "fursuit." And by that we mean the pink bunny pajamas from "A Christmas Story!"
If we raise progressively larger amounts, things get slightly more interesting: At $1,000, KP will wear the bunny suit all day Friday until registration closes, including at the dessert social (weather permitting).
If we go on to raise $2,000 in charity donations before Saturday morning, KP will be stuck in that bunny suit all day Saturday as well, until registration closes. That includes the fursuit parade.
Raising $3,000 before Sunday morning will keep the bunny suit on KP for all convention hours while registration is open, up to closing ceremonies.
Now, it occurred to us, why stop there? Besides our own co-chairman, whose dignity could we sacrifice in order to help animals in need? Enter scientest, storyteller, and Anthrocon chairman Uncle Kage!
Somehow we got Uncle Kage to agree that if we raise $12,000 (which is almost 3x the largest amount the convention has EVER raised in a single year), he will don the bunny suit for his Story Hour and for any and all panels/appearances he has thereafter. And there's no backing out of it.
Finally, Fox Amoore, former Megaplex guest of honor and creator of the album Come Find Me, has agreed that if we raise a collective total of $15,000, and if the bunny pajamas are not covered in too much spilled wine, he will wear it to perform a piano piece.
All of this is in good fun, and we thank those SUCKERS...err...gentlemen who have "kindly offered" to wear the bunny
suit for their assistance in helping our charity.
So with that said, let's raise some money for The C.A.R.E. Foundation!

Charity craziness for The C.A.R.E. Foundation!
Megaplex 2014's charity goal is to raise $8,000 for the CARE Foundation, an exotic animal rescue and wildlife education facility in the nearby city of Apopka, Florida. CARE has been with Megaplex since the beginning. This year, we want to really show them what we're capable of doing for animals in need!
If every attendee donated just $10, we could easily surpass that goal!
There are more than 200 big cats, bears, monkeys, birds, reptiles and assorted critters who call CARE home. The donations will help CARE complete expansions to their facility to help accommodate them.
There are a ton of different ways you can help raise money to meet our $8,000 goal:
- Encourage as many of your friends as possible to join us at Opening Ceremonies at 10 AM on Friday, and bring money for donations. Why? Well...let's just say there is a special incentive for early donations. You'll see!
- The charity poker tournament returns this year on Friday night, beginning at 7:00 PM. Buy-in is $10. Have fun for a great cause!
- Bring your money to the CARE Presentation on Sunday at Noon. For a small donation, you can get photos of yourself with a live animal from the presentation. (This is a great photo op for fursuiters, too!)
- Our Charity Auction will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, immediately after the CARE presentation. Credit cards are also accepted! In addition to bidding on any of the items, you can also drop off your own contributions to be auctioned off.
- Are you a fursuiter looking for something fun to donate for the charity auction? Donate a dance! We will auction off the opportunity for the winning bidder to dance with his or her favorite fluffy critter at the dances that evening. To participate, you must sign up at registration, and you must be present and in costume at the charity auction and the Sunday dances.
- Fursuiters can help by becoming a part of our fuzzy fundraising force. This involves approaching attendees throughout the convention, holding out an official Megaplex charity donation jar, and looking so ridiculously cute that your targets will be unable to resist emptying their pockets into the donation jar! To participate, sign up at Registration.
- At Registration, the CARE presentation and certain other events, we'll have donation jars out. Every little bit of spare change adds up!
Thank you all for your generous support!

A note to our supersponsors

If you haven't already been contacted about your character details for the poster artwork, you will shortly. Thanks for your patience!
We owe all of our sponsors massive thanks for their support, without which we couldn't make Megaplex the incredible event that it is every year. Thank you!

Megaplex Hotel Room Block Expansions
General | Posted 11 years agoHello everyone!
Megaplex is continuing to work with our hotel to expand the room block and accommodate more requests for rooms. I’d like to take a moment to explain what is happening, and why the block continues to need expansion.
When Megaplex signed the hotel contract for 2014, we increased the number of room nights that we included in our room
block. The increase was sufficiently large that we felt it would accommodate room requests for 2014. We were quite surprised to learn that our contracted room block filled at 100% in March. Megaplex has already signed an addendum to our contract, and we have exceeded that number of room nights as well.
The hotel is increasing the number of rooms in the room block as it fills. However because we do not know how large the eventual number of room nights will be, the hotel is increasing the room block size incrementally as we fill it. Right now, we are more than 150% of our original contracted number of room nights, and the reservations and registrations continue to increase. We are communicating closely with the hotel on a regular basis, and will sign another contract addendum if needed…so long as there are rooms available in the hotel for our attendees to reserve. (On our peak nights, Megaplex reservations comprise over 40% of the entire hotel's capacity at this time.)
We deeply appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to make enough hotel rooms available at the $99 per night Megaplex rate for our members. (Remember that includes parking. Any room reservations not in the room block do not have comped parking.)
This is truly going to be a sweet year!
K.P.
Megaplex Convention Co-Chairman
P.S. If rooms appear as sold out when you try to book, please keep an eye on our Twitter account - MegaplexCon - as we will continue to tweet whenever we receive word that the block has expanded and more hotel rooms are available to book.
