I made a Ko-Fi account and my plan for the New Year
Posted 2 years agohttps://ko-fi.com/meggyness
I'm excited about this. I certainly don't mean to beg, and I honestly don't expect anything from it. I never want my watchers to feel some kind of uncomfortable obligation to tip, or that anyone who commissions me to feel an obligation to tip on top of commission. I just want to share what I'm feeling because it feels good to set some tangible goals to work towards.
I've always hated the idea of New Years Resolutions. The novelty wears off by the beginning of February, making it something to be forgotten or regretted. But it is my intention to draw more this year, and to do my best to keep up with a daily sketchbook. The sketchbook is something that won't be shared for the most part, but it makes me feel good to keep. In addition to the sketches, I'm going to try to create a well of ideas that I may pull from any time I need inspiration. Today I wrote down 10 drawing ideas and 10 sticker ideas. I may or may not draw any of these things, but just writing them down made me feel accomplished somehow.
I feel good, and I feel like this year is going to be a creative year for me. I hope it's a good, productive year for everyone.
By the way, I still have Blue Sky codes to give if anyone is interested in joining. Let me know and don't be shy if you need one!

You'll probably see more work in progress or the occasional sketchbook content that you wouldn't see here over there.

Hello! And I have Blue Sky Invite Codes
Posted 2 years agoHi, all! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I genuinely hope to be more productive next year. I started keeping a new sketchbook back in September and made it a point to draw every day for over a month and it was the best I've felt in years. I couldn't keep it up in November, and December fell by the wayside, but I intend to start again in January. Ideas to keep the creativity flowing are always welcome. I know I struggle with being engaging and I really want to improve with that as well.
I've had a Blue Sky account for a couple of months, and just like I fell off the drawing bandwagon in November, I haven't posted much since October, but I do plan on changing that.

Art Prompts
Posted 2 years agoAnyone have any art prompts or suggestions you'd like to see for my gallery? No guarantees, I'll draw every suggestion, but it could help. I got Clip Studio Paint recently and need to get the hang of it.
I'm still chugging along with Disney inktober. It's been fun to pick the best characters for the theme.

Trying to get my spark back - sketchbooking - inktober
Posted 2 years agoSo, lately I've felt like I've been in an especially bad slump personally. Work has had me feeling burnt out and upset lately, and it's no secret I don't draw as much as I used to. Honestly, it's not just on FA. I've barely drawn anything for myself over the past few years.
Last week, I decided to get into sketchbooking and devote more time to art and so far I feel like it's been going well. Sometimes, I really hate to say things like this out loud for fear I might jinx myself, but I've been drawing every day over the past week, and trying to spend at least 15 minutes per day working on more fundamental studies such as focusing on working on anatomy and poses. I've spent 5 hours over the past week practicing on line-of-action.com and it just feels good to get into drawing again.
I've owned dozens, maybe a hundred, sketchbooks over the years, but looking back at them, they all seemed somewhat hollow and wasted potential. I really want to do better, and if anyone has any suggestions to what I should work on, let me know. While we're at it, if anyone has any resources that have helped you on your artistic journey, I'd like to know.
I've decided to attempt inktober this year, working with the 2023 themes while also trying to incorporate Disney into each day's theme. I'm putting these up on instagram (meggynessart) , but does anyone have any suggestions for places I should be posting to? I just don't know that they fit in with my gallery here. Maybe I can put them in my scraps.

Commissions open and other ramblings
Posted 5 years agoHello. I hope everyone is doing well.
As the title says, I'll have a bit of free time coming up, so turn around time should be pretty quick. Send me a note if interested.
Commission terms: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6611876/
Price guide: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/29790961/
Besides commissions, I'm always open to suggestions to what you'd like to see me draw more of or improve on.
Sometimes I feel creative and motivated, as though I should be drawing something, but it's like my characters and ideas aren't on speaking terms with me.

Commission information and terms
Posted 10 years agoSimple Price Guide
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/29790961/
If you’re interested in commissioning me or have any questions about pricing or anything at all, send me a note. I don’t bite. I do not have to draw anything I feel uncomfortable drawing and have every right to say no. Don’t take it personally if I say no.
When I say that I will only draw artwork appropriate for general audiences, I mainly mean anything that could get away with a Y7 rating. Browse through my gallery and you should get an idea of what I what I am comfortable drawing, but you can think of it like this: If it’s too shocking for a Don Bluth movie or an episode of Gravity Falls, I probably won’t draw it. Just look around my gallery and you should get an idea of what I’ll draw.
*I will draw, but don’t specify in:
Quadrupedal characters
Mechanical characters, mechanical objects, and vehicles
Cityscapes
Digital Painting (I’m much more fond of pen and ink)
* = Just because it’s listed here, doesn’t mean I won’t try to draw it. I enjoy trying different things, but some of these things just may take longer for me to draw. Also, please understand that I may need a lot of additional reference for unique props (such as vehicles), locations, or perspectives.
I most likely will not draw:
-My characters with your characters (If you look through my gallery and see my characters interacting with other people’s characters, that was probably gift art. This is especially true with my Filtered Fuzz characters.)
I will NOT draw:
-Adult/mature or anything really fetishy. If it's something tame enough that you'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon, that's fine.
-Copyrighted characters (I may draw your character in an outfit inspired by an existing character if you like. This is on a case by case basis.)
Submission Forum If you want to commission me or have questions about pricing anything else, please send me a note on FA with the following:
1. Level of detail. (Are you looking for a simple sketch or elaborate inks? Is the coloring simple flat colors or is there a ton of detail? Usually, the more elaborate the inks, the more elaborate the colors.) Also, specify if you’re looking for a headshot, full body, or an establishing shot where the background takes more prominence than the character(s). Also let me know what price you’re thinking about.
2. Character Reference. If this is the first time anyone is drawing your character, there could be an additional fee. Please keep your references G rated.
3. A description of what you want drawn. This includes things such character species, personality, what the character will be doing in the drawing, background, and other details. Be descriptive, but remember to please leave room for a bit of artistic liberty.
4. Other reference. Props, unique locations, perspectives, special poses.
This is optional, but may be helpful to include:
5. How do you feel about WIPs? Do you just want to see WIPs for the pencils, or do you want to see progress on inks and coloring as well?*
6. If you are ordering a badge, let me know if you want to use any kind of special shape, but keep in mind that it can’t be overly complex around the edges.
Payment and Process
I only accept paypal for payment at this time. Payment would be in USD. After you e-mail what you want, I’ll send you a quote and my paypal. Payment would be expected before I proceed with drawing. The only exception to this is for more complex illustrations, I will send you a (rough) sketch and will wait for your approval. Once the initial sketch is approved, I will wait on payment to proceed.
For badges, I will e-mail you a layout of the finished artwork before I print it. Please keep in mind that there may be monitor to printer difference in colors. The price of shipping should be included in the $45 price, unless shipping is outrageous.
I make no promises on when something will be finished, but I am usually very prompt with artwork that I owe.
*About those WIPs
Under normal circumstances, commissions $15 & under won’t receive a WIP. This makes the process go much quicker. If you’re ordering something of a higher value and don’t mind not seeing WIPs, let me know in #6 of the above “submission forum” and I’ll be able to finish your commission more quickly. (The exception to this is badges and complex illustrations.)
Usually work quickly and non-sequentially so I may have to make adjustments to my artistic process the more WIPs you want to see. I will try to be accommodating if you prefer to see more WIPs, but it’s an unnatural way for me to work and may slow the process down.
Also, my sketching/penciling process is very loose and done with blue pencil so it may seem all over the place when I send you a WIP. Just keep that in mind and try to think of the big picture (shapes, composition, character poses, etc.) as opposed to the smaller details with the WIP.
If you want minor changes after the product is finished, let me know and I will try to accommodate them. Please understand, however that some things may be rather difficult to change. I tend not to work in layers, and especially with elaborate inked and colored pieces changing the line art once the colors are finished can be a cruel process.
Please, just remember to leave room for artistic liberty and don’t nitpick. I'm a human being, not a machine.
Another note
Rarely, I may “upgrade” a commission (at no additional cost) if I am feeling experimental or if I feel it needs something. an example of this may be making a head sketch a waist-up sketch if I feel like drawing hands for some reason. Please don’t complain if I don’t or expect me to upgrade something for you.
After the art is finished:
Once the art is finished and paid for, you can repost it. Please give credit where possible and do not use for commercial purposes. Do not edit the artwork. If you receive a shaded commission and would like to crop the image to make it an icon, I probably wouldn't mind, but don’t make changes that would go against what I am willing to draw. Seriously, if you want adult material, I’m not the artist you should be commissioning.
I may or may not post artwork on this account, so don’t be offended if I do or don’t. I may use commissioned artwork in future price guides/portfolio pieces. However, if you prefer I not post something, let me know and I will take it down (or not post it) as a courtesy. (Just remember, it’s your character, but it’s my drawing.)

Plastic Badge Commissions? (Any interest? Opinions?)
Posted 10 years agoWould anyone be interested in a custom badge like one of these Maggot badges I made a few years ago?
Also, does $50 sound like a fair price for something like this, considering that there is a bit of outside labor involved along with material cost? It's a digital print on a plastic material cut with a laser and it would come with a simple lanyard. I'm not used to seeing badges quite like this. Most badges I've seen are based off of traditional art and not digital, so I'm not even sure if there would be a demand for it or if I'm committing some kind of sin against badges by not doing them traditionally. (...What?)
If there were a demand for this, if 5 people order, I may cut the price to $45 each and $40 each if 10 people order, for a limited time. And since I'd be mailing these out anyway, I would also mail the traditional inks as well.
This is hypothetical at this point. If you have opinions or know of anyone who has done something similar, feel free to share.

Computer issues
Posted 10 years agoMy computer went out last week, so that explains my Internet absence. And I haven been able to scan or color, which means no comic updates either.
Between vet visits, getting new glasses, and computer problems this has been a very annoying past few weeks.

Anyone be interested if I were to open for commissions?
Posted 10 years agoThis is not a proclamation saying I'm going to do commissions, but I'm just curious. I absolutely would not draw anything NSFW or anything really fetishy so I'm not sure there would be a demand for what I do.
Would there be a demand for me to do commissions, and would you, as watchers, prefer I open a new account for commissions as opposed to posting commission work on this account?
Or do you have any other opinions?

So it's January, apparently.
Posted 11 years agoI want to point out that I haven't been trying to avoid any one person or group of people or anybody by not being around lately. I really haven't drawn much of anything lately (outside of work-related art) so you aren't missing anything on my end. I don't know if anyone can relate, but it's almost as though I've been afraid of looking at comments lately. I can't even seem to take a complement lately.
I feel really bad for not being around to comment lately. I just feel like I haven't really had it in me to do so lately. It's frustrating to see all the great art in my inbox, staring at it, and then thinking "...Well, I've got nothing." So I just wanted to take this journal as an opportunity to say to the folks I watch that I've loved what you've been drawing over the past few months, and to keep it up. And to anyone who has favorited, watched, or commented on any of my work, I really do appreciate it
I would like to try to draw at least one gallery quality (as opposed to scrap) picture per month this year. I make no promises, but there's no harm in trying.
Simply writing this journal was a difficult thing to do, but at least it's a start.

Ask Meggy
Posted 11 years agoI really need a change of pace from what I've been doing today, so I thought it would be fun to answer some questions. If you've ever felt like asking me or one of my characters something, go ahead. Just nothing too personal or obscene. And I may not be able to answer comic-spoliery questions for obvious reasons.
So... Who wants to do an art trade? CLOSED
Posted 11 years agoEDIT: Thank you to everyone who showed interest in trading with me. I wish I had time to take more trades, and hopefully I will near the end of the year. I can't make any promises, but I'd like to.
It's been a while since I last did an art trade journal and I figure that since I'll have a day off coming up soon, I might take a couple of art trades. This won't necessarily be first come first served as far as slots, so please don't feel offended if I don't pick you. It's just, sometimes it feels like I'm being unfair to people in different time zones or who are away for the weekend who want to trade, so I'll probably pick two or three people to trade within the next couple of days. I'll probably decide by Tuesday, and when I do, I'll mark this journal title closed.
As usually, I'm not to picky as to which character or characters of mine you draw, so if any of my characters jumps out to you, feel free to draw them. Just let me know what you want me to draw. I like making my trades pieces with backgrounds and try to put as much effort as I can.
Also, I tend to be pretty prompt with trades, but my comics and work come first.

Idea Jar
Posted 11 years agoI wanted to say hello and thank you to my newest watchers. I really appreciate all my watchers. Thank you all!
As kind of a random thing, I just wanted to jot down some ideas that I may or may not use later but might forget if I don't write them down.
A one eyed ostrich dragon
A backyard BBQ
12 ladybugs having a picnic (like the Sesame Street song)
A Cerberus/3 little kittens hybrid
Balloons in the shape of cupcakes
Dinosaurs having tea
Flight
Space fish
There's no guarantee I'll draw any of this, but it's nice to get it out of my head, I guess.

Gobbledegook
Posted 11 years agoI'm sorry I haven't been around lately. I've been going through what I can best describe as a beginning of the year depression. It's sort of something that happens every year and nothing I won't get over, but I've also been anxious lately even when I see that I have comments on the various websites I frequent so I've just been avoiding the Internet as much as I can. I really do appreciate all comments and it's not like I'm trying to avoid anyone personally. It's difficult to explain. Even typing this, I kinda just feel like hiding under my desk. I'll try to do better. I seriously appreciate all comments and favs. And even people who aren't into commenting but still throw positivity my way through the power of mental osmosis or something… I appreciate that too!
I probably won't be too active in the next few days/weeks because I'm really trying to focus on the batch of comics I'm working on, but I just wanted to let everyone know I'm not dead or intentionally ignoring everyone.
I'm gonna go draw now.

oh. hi, new year
Posted 12 years agoI hope all who celebrate it had a good Christmas and the the new year is off to a pleasant start for everyone. I want to thank everyone who has recently watched me or commented over the past couple of weeks. I recently had some time off from work which I tried to take advantage of to draw comics, which is reason for my Internet absence as of late. (Though I also got side tracked with video games, which is a lame excuse for not doing anything.)
Winter Cleaning
Posted 12 years agoAbout once every six months or so I go through everything I've drawn and throw it all out. Finished inks, unfinished WIPs, redrawn comic panels... Really, just about everything except for finished web-comic pages and sketchbooks, which I just feel kind of weird throwing out. Sometimes, i wonder if someone would find it and try to make sense of it all.
What actually gets to me more than throwing away physical art work is throwing away nubs of colored pencils. If you draw with non-photo blue colored pencils as much as I do then you probably know how many of these things you can rack up over the course of a year. I've been saving these things for years for no reason in particular (Maybe I could make a hole in them and turn them into a non-photo blue necklace! ... No.) and now I'm throwing them out with everything else. It's kind of weird that I have saved these things. I don't save other things... Like used up brush pens or even finished original art. Thinking about it like that, it's kind of funny as an artist, the things I get attached to.
Also, thanks to all for the recent watches and favs!
Edit: I'm sorry if this journal does seem wasteful. A lot of my finished drawings are in sketchbooks, which don't get thrown out. I usually work with the front and backs of the paper I use to cut down on waste. That's probably at least one reason why my finished inks don't really look so presentable (on paper) when they're finished. Nature and how we use or natural resources is super important to me as I feel like it should be for everyone.
What actually gets to me more than throwing away physical art work is throwing away nubs of colored pencils. Posted 12 years agoDon't question my journal titles. XD (I was thinking about the sound Rudolph's nose makes in those Rankin Bass specials.)
I'm thinking of taking three art trades to do between now and Christmas.
I don't really have much in the way of rules other than keeping things general audience friendly as usual. I try to finish trades promptly. To anyone I do trade with, take as much time as you need, but please do intend to finish your trade. Also, I put a lot of effort into trades, so I just hope you do the same. And you can draw any of my characters you'd like. As usual, I like being pleasantly surprised.

Posted 12 years agoSo I know I haven't been terribly active lately. I've been struggling with sadness lately, which is unusual because this is my favorite time of the year and I don't usually feel like this until after the holidays are over. It doesn't help that work has been kicking my butt lately. I've just been very busy, which is a good thing, but it's just so easy to get overwhelmed. Like yesterday, I let something that shouldn't have gotten to me get to me. I'm really fortunate that all of my co-workers and bosses are really awesome people though.
For now, comics are slow going because I find it's best not to write or draw when I don't have a clear head. Otherwise, I just wind up regretting everything. I think I'm starting to get back into the swing of things though.
Like what I can only assume is 99% of the rest of FA, I've been playing Pokemon a lot lately too, so there's that. I hatched a shiny Eevee.*sarcasm* I'm so proud. XD
Also, it seems as though I passed through the 5,000 pageviews mark while I was away. So hurray for that. Thanks for watching and everything you do, everyone. I appreciate you all! :D
Despite how negative this journal started, I'm actually doing pretty good and I hope everyone else is too.

This video makes me so happy

It features a ride through as well as history/background information of the original Journey Into Imagination ride at EPCOT. I miss that ride so much! It's kind of long, but it's just so interesting.
I've been really busy lately with work and everything else, so I'm sorry if I've been really quiet as far as commenting this week. There's been so much great art in my inbox that I feel bad about not replying to.

Uuuuaaaahhhhhhh... I don't knoooww...
Posted 12 years agoI was thinking of taking a couple (or maybe three... I don't know) art trades to do over the next week or so. I really just want to try something different and to just get my mind off of needless anxiety (I'll be better when my vacation comes!) and to fill my gallery with something new.
I'm not picky as far as which character I would want anyone to draw. Just draw whichever of my characters speaks to you the most. And if it takes you a few weeks or months, that's fine. Just... finish it eventually, please. These will be something that I plan of putting a decent level of detail into.
So, like I said, I'll probably be taking two or perhaps three slots. I may just keep it at one or two since I probably should be working on comics.

Getting over writing nearsighted-ness
Posted 12 years agoSo after uh... how ever many months it's been, I can say with confidence that Filtered Fuzz comic updates should resume on July 1st.
It's taken me a while, but I've finally come to a place where I'm confident enough that I can produce at least two comics per week, which has been a problem for me over the past few months. I have had this very strangely specific writer's block in which I could be reading through two or three pages back to back and not know if I was repeating myself or writing what I really meant to write. And this was really paralyzing artistically too. What should have taken me a few hours to draw was taking me weeks to draw because I was just second guessing myself. And that's no way to make a comic that should update twice a week. The silver lining to this is that I have penciled and inked 7+ pages since I started this comic down time. And while I normally would do at least twice that many, this means that I do have at least some kind of buffer now (though these pages are all still being colored).
And since starting next Friday, I'm on vacation from work for a week, I should have some spare time to work on comics.
Also, I jumped on the bandwagon and got Animal Crossing: New Leaf, so lets see how badly my productivity levels suffer. xD Actually, I'm limiting myself, so I think everything should be okay. I've been kind of a stress sandwich lately, so it's nice to be able to play such an easy-going game.

4000 pageviews and 250+ watchers
Posted 12 years agoI'm bad at giving voice to my thoughts like this, but I say with sincerity, thanks for being so awesome and just being there, everyone. You're all fantastic!
Ahahah! I was gone for a week...
Posted 12 years agoBut now I'm back - with lots and lots of happy memories, artistic reference, and some really snazzy looking new non-photo-blue pencils! (And new pencils means more drawing!) Hurray!
Also, I've got quite a few messages in my inbox, so if I don't reply to much over the past week, don't take it personally. Not that anyone probably cares one way or another. (Though, if anyone wants me to see or reply to something specific for any reason at all, just let me know.) I'm still going through messages, but I really want to get back to drawing... preferably after a good night's sleep.

A follow up from the previous journal
Posted 12 years agoTraveling is a really tiring thing. Hands down, I would prefer a full day of work than a few day of riding on a bus. In regards to my previous journal, my reasoning behind it was to have something to draw to alleviate boredom during a long ride. I was able to draw a couple of the suggested ideas, and they were quite a nice diversion from travel fatigue. I was on a bus and without access to the Internet, so I didn't really have too much in the way of reference. And what I drew was penciled and inked on a bus. So yes, that's why I said don't expect much.
Oddly enough, i also managed to pencil and ink a couple of comic panels (yay!) but the bus was probably stopped while I was drawing them.
Anyway, i had a nice trip and I just want to thank you all for throwing in your suggestions for things to draw. They were all so great, I may even draw more of them in the coming weeks. Perhaps.

I could use your help.
Posted 12 years agoAnd by help, I mean an idea to potentially draw.
Tell me something to draw and maybe I'll draw it. Be it a character, an animal, a location, a situation or whatever.
I probably won't take more than five of these (if I do) and in no particular order, so just post something before tomorrow night and I'll choose then. Just don't count on me saying anything. You'll find out if I draw it... if I draw it.
Quality on these may vary, so no complaining. (Who complains at freebies anyway?) Don't expect too much. At all. These could be really bad or really good depending on how I feel at the time.
I have my reasons.
