Question for Students/Alumni of Art Colleges
Posted 16 years agoI was wondering if I could see the portfolios that you submitted, and where you applied/got accepted/ended up attending. I'm on my quest to have a portfolio by the end of december.. which means I need to spend all of my time wisely, and it would be fantastic to see portfolio's/get some tips.
Just FYI, I reaaaally want to get into Ringling.. so if there are any students/alumns around.. halp! :)
I've been extremely busy with school which explains lack of action around hurr.

Oh herro
Posted 16 years agoSorry for the huge inactivity. School is very demanding. I also went to Europe last week, but also got very sick with an ear infection. Put all those together and that equals no art and no life!
I am still here. I have a painting I almost have completed that is on its way.. Hopefully I can find some motivation again!
Welcome, new watchers!

I want to learn it.

I'm disgustingly jealous of those who can just whip up something on the computer and its just dazzling. Same goes for traditional artists. Oh how I admire thee!

Linework Question
Posted 16 years agoIs there anyway to achieve the kind of line quality you get in Photoshop in like, GIMP or Paint Shop Pro? If you don't know what I mean just browse any Photoshop-wielder's linework..

Digital Shading + request
Posted 17 years agoCell-shading or smooth shading (idk what it's called :)).. Which do you prefer/find more appealing?
If you have any lineart that you don't want to bother coloring but would fancy seeing colored, let me know :)

Notice
Posted 17 years agoI guess I am on hiatus since I am so busy with school right now. All my free time is either with my boyfriend or homework, or de-stressing outside the house. I don't have any time nor motivation to produce art right now. I really hope I get back on track soon or at least get some pictures going - I have lots of new toys I got for Christmas, but haven't been able to play with them.
Thanks for your support and patience!

Lulz
Posted 17 years agoSorry for the disgusting inactivity here on my page. I've been so busy lately, with it being the holidays, school, etc. I've gotten behind in commenting artwork as well. I just wanted everyone to know I'm still here, and I should really start producing some artwork again, since I've been stuck at home due to icky snow.
Thanks luvs,

Questions
Posted 17 years ago1.How much time do you spend on a picture?
2.Where do you get inspiration for backgrounds?
3.Where do you get inspiration for subject matter?
4.For those who are successful in the commissioning business, how do you advertise, "give people what they want" in your gallery to interest them?
5.What do you draw for relaxation/downtime?
6.I believe every artist gets a breakthrough period where they start creating artwork of a much higher quality than before.. If you've reached that, what did you do to get there?
7.I'm trying to step up the quality of my pieces.. any suggestions for ways I need to improve? Be gentle :P
Thanks!!

Back & With News
Posted 17 years agoHEY I'm back, my trip was fun. And now it's down to business. I teach art to my young cousins and so I've been busy drawing things for them to color (since we'll be working on tool control and coloring, etc) so I haven't been drawing stuff for HERE. I'll upload my drawings and put them in scraps if you're curious as to what I draw for 'em.. Be aware they're like 10 minute sketches with Sharpie thrown on them. So obviously nothing FANCY.
So hopefully once I get a handful of drawings I'll start drawing for realsies soon. Exciting? I THINK SO. YESSS.
And I'll be commenting on artwork for those who I'm watching so hoorah you get my comments now!

ps: It's so hot here ;_;
EDIT: I keep seeing this everywhere and it bothers me. The quote is "the love of money is the root of all evil" not "money is the root of all evil". KTHX.

Posted 17 years agoYeah I'm going out of state this morning and I should be back Sunday afternoon. So I won't have any access to a computer but hey, it's only a few days. ;) I'll comment on everyone's artwork when I get back (Haha I still have some to get to from this week!). So yeah. DON'T WORRY, I BE BAAACK.

ps; After I get back... I should be less busy and more open for drawing stuffs so I'll hopefully post something soon. Hooray!

Heads Up
Posted 17 years agoHello everyone,
Sorry I haven't been very active lately! This month I've been busy and it's going to be even busier next week. I'll have very limited free time. I won't say I'm taking a short hiatus, but I won't be posting anything within the next few days or anything because I just don't have the time to draw.
Hopefully in a few weeks everything will settle back down.
Thanks!

Tutorials
Posted 17 years agoDo you know of any effective, clear, and generally helpful traditional media tutorials? Specifically watercolor, colored pencil, and marker.
Colored pencil is my most familiar media but the quality is not where I want it. I dont know if it depends on my paper or technique - the paper I generally use is pretty rough. I just don't want to waste my Bristol on my general drawings - I like to keep it for bigger projects.
Because the quality of my pencil work isn't up to where I want it to be, I've been experimenting with mixed media (marker/pencil, and soon watercolor/pencil). I'm not very familiar with using markers artistically and watercolors are a little out of hand for me at the moment! I'm trying to tame them though haha. I know the very basics of watercolors, like how to do washes and what colors mixed together make what colors.
If you've seen any just pure awesome tutorials or have any helpful tips, please share them!
Thanks!
