All settled in the student accommodation now with  BentleyBun! First night was a little rough with boxes everywhere, no heating and no internet but everything's up and running now and the house is coming together nicely~ <3

My friend and I were asking the Psychological Assistance Dog organisation (Service Dogs Europe) about their accreditation, as it had occurred to us that they hadn't mentioned if they were accredited by the ADI (the international quality control for all assistance dogs). Without accreditation, an assistance dog (regardless of training) doesn't have any rights to public access. When we asked about it, Service Dogs Europe said that all their dogs have public access rights and that they were "recognised by an official body". As the only official body they can be accredited by is the ADI, we emailed the ADI directed and they said that they had never spoken to Service Dogs Europe before. This means that the dogs from this organisation do NOT have legal public access rights, and are basically just well-trained pets :/

SO long story short Service Dogs Europe has been shady and has falsely advertised their dogs as legal assistance dogs. Luckily we hadn't signed any contracts and everyone who has helped with raising money for this cause will be given their money back.

It's extremely sad that this has happened, as they'd sent us a picture of the dog they were going to give us. Now we can only rely on whatever charities we can find, most likely one abroad (hopefully in Europe), at least in this case the dog should be free of charge.

The moral of this story is always look into the organisations you work with IT'S A PRETTY SHITTY SITUATION TO BE IN TBH :c

The person writing it is a photographer but it totally applies to all forms of art. Luckily I haven't had to deal with art theft (yet) but it's something that definitely looms over me as an artist. Taking inspiration from others is absolutely fine, and I would be honoured if someone felt inspired enough from my work to produce their own art, but when it's practically identical or even downright stolen with no mention of the source, it's just disrespectful (not to mention illegal). Artists of all kinds spend a huge amount of time on their craft, for many it means years of work and dedication and spending a fortune on equipment and such - and for an adult to look at that and think "It's on the internet therefore I can use it for free with no repercussions or consideration for the original artist!!" is just disgusting. It's even worse when they get paid for it.

I especially liked this comments on the article, I think it sums up the argument perfectly (again, talking about photographers but it applies to all artists):

"Photographers are tired of being asked to do their job for free. You would not ask your hairdresser to spend two hours doing your hair for free. Telling all of your friends that your hairdresser does great work is not payment. The exposure you provide her by bragging about your free haircut does not pay her bills. You would not ask a chef to create a meal for you without paying the chef for the time, talent, and ingredients. You would not take a bike off of someones front porch, ride it around, and call it your own."
