Sorry for the extended silence, A lot has been happening of late and I'm trying to get it all resolved.
Just a heads up the Twitter account I used for this project has been hacked BadTechGames and wanted to warn you all not to interact with this account.
I've contacted twitter support regarding this issue and are monitoring it closely

After Dark Update

Hoping you are all staying safe and healthy in these difficult times.
Firstly, Allow me to address and apologize for my extended silence, due to the COVID situation here in Australia I've had to work extended hours at my job providing necessary assistance to those in need which has devoured the majority of my time until recently.
I'm pleased to announce that now the situation is starting to resemble some form of normality I am afforded more time to continue my work on my beloved After Dark. Furthermore, It's also my privilege to inform you that the After Dark project has secured the services of a quality artist who you may already be familiar with if you've followed the Morenatsu Homecoming VN.
I'm looking forward to bringing you more frequent and future updates and will be releasing the demo here when it's complete. It is my hope that you will give it a try and give me your honest opinions.
I thank you all for your patience and understanding and look forward to hearing your experiences in the After Dark world.

Closure of Patreon Page
Posted 6 years agoAs some of you may be aware, I recently applied for a promotion at work in order to secure myself financially. I was successful, This has however left me with much less time to work on my project than I had initially anticipated. As a result I've decided to close my Patreon page as I will not be able to put out a consistent amount of content reliably each month.
Production will still continue, and with greater funds now at my disposal I'll be able to implement some of the fancier things I had hoped to put into my project. Basically, this just means a better quality game comes out, just over a slightly longer time.
All update links made available to the public will be uploaded here and on my twitter account.

After Dark Progress Resumes

It brings me great joy to announce that we have finally managed to secure the products we needed to recover all our data and resources, as such work on the After Dark Project will now resume, effective immediately.
I thank you all for your patience and support during this difficult time and it is my hope you get great enjoyment out of the coming updates. On that note, Patreon charges will resume as of October 1st to coincide with the newest update containing all of our new work.
Let the smuttening begin

After Dark Project: On hold until further notice
Posted 6 years agoUnfortunaltely, The AD Project is on hold until further notice. My computer died today and without a computer to work on the project... well, you get the idea. Once I get a new one and successfully transfer my data from the old shitheap. I'll post the date of which it will be continued. (just think of this as a pause for effect thing)

Work loss and Recovery
Posted 6 years agoDue to faulty equipment, I lost a great portion of the work I had done on the After Dark Project.
Thankfully the resources I used were mostly in tact. Going through re-writing the missing text (copying the old while making improvements along the way as required) while chucking in some new UI changes.
It's a bit slower I'll admit, but overall it looks much better than the over sized message box I had before. Name boxes only appear now when a character is speaking, leaving an obvious narrator textbox for everything else. The resolution has been increased (again) to 1280x800. I decided to go with this size for a number of reasons.
1: More sprites can appear onscreen at one time without looking overcrowded
2: It's a more common resolution size I've seen used in other VN's, almost like a standard.
3: It allows text to fit better within the size of the text box and gives a clearer, more crisp feel to the text, better readability (is that even a word? I dunno, I feel I'm almost blind anyway)
I've changed a few of the background images as well as some of the music tracks. While the previous tunes were really nice, I felt they didn't really convey the intended atmosphere as efficiently as the new ones.
Very disappointed at the loss, but staying positive and making great strides to get back on track with the development timeline ASAP. Overall, I'm still happy that I can get this time to grow and develop as both a writer and an artist. After all, isn't it the challenges we face that lead to a greater feeling of satisfaction when we overcome them?

Thoughts on Character creation
Posted 6 years agoWhile I'm away from home, I've been thinking more and more about my project (I refuse to believe I'm obsessed)
I tried out a game called Morenatsu, and while it was good, I felt the changes they made to the protagonist teamed with the stereotype really killed it for me.
This got me wondering, how many people are in favor of a "character select" option? Obviously there would be some kind of a "canon" protagonist, but for the sake of the player's experience, do you think games today should come with character creation/selection? or do you think that would ruin it for the player?
I'm thinking along the lines of a "Outgoing Top" and a "Reserved Bottom" protagonist, and have that choice shown in various dialogues throughout the game. not just sex scenes.
It's something that should be considered I think, given that it's quite simple to code in with software like RPG maker and Ren'py.
