Venting never makes me feel any better, and I already regret my decision to air my bitterness in writing, but it's killing me inside and I need to get it out. So, here we go.

I've been doing art for about ten years now. My original FA account was made on July 1st 2011, and my current one has been going since 2014 after I ended up screwing up some account settings on the original account and was no longer able to keep using it. In that time I have, as of the time of writing this, 397 watchers. I am grateful some of you have managed to find me and stick around, but... well, there aren't many of you.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Obviously there must be something wrong with me or my work if I've failed to get any real traction in all that time, but I don't know what it is.

I don't wish to begrudge anyone else their success, but I can't help but feel bitter about doing art for almost ten years and getting nearly nowhere, and then seeing someone else already doing better than I ever have within three months. And to be clear, they are good, and they deserve the attention they're getting and more. But on the other side there's me, and probably countless others like me, that have spent years getting very little traction with no apparent reason for it.

A lot of people are able to do things just for their own sake, and that's fantastic, and a healthy mindset to have. Unfortunately, that's beyond me; I've been wrestling with chronic depression and the related anhedonia for about 8 years, and I'm largely incapable of feeling any intrinsic pleasure or accomplishment from anything I do manage to do. Almost nothing has intrinsic value to me, and anything that does is inevitably short lived and quickly forgotten. I remember what it was like to feel accomplished, it's what got me started, but since then I just haven't had those feelings. The only thing that keeps me going is trying to do things for other peoples' sake and get some kind of validation that way. Sometimes I get it, usually I don't. And in all those regards, I'm not special. There are a lot of people in the world dealing with exactly the same mental problems I am. I suppose it has gotten worse this year, though, between personal family loss and some retrospectively bad decisions on my part. Trying to branch out to Newgrounds in particular was pretty bad for my mental health due to how their art portal works; I have yet to be 'scouted' meaning most people don't even see my art unless they start specifically searching for the tagged subject matter, and the voting system revealed an at-best-lukewarm reception to my efforts. So, those were pretty significant blows to my self-esteem and I should probably just stop trying at some point.

I suppose it boils down to "The world at large is at best indifferent and at worst outright cruel and hostile to the individual." There are a lot of talented people in the world, yet only some of them find success and the others just don't.

For now I suppose I'll just get back to playing my personal game of "how long can I tollerate my own existence."

I am thankful for those few of you who have managed to find me in spite of my failings, and I am thankful for the small handful of friends I have managed to find as I've been stumbling along what passes for my path through life so far. And I hope that my work has managed to bring some enjoyment to those precious few of you who have actually seen it. I just wish my brain chemistry was healthy enough to let me really appreciate it as much as I should, internally.

Wow, I haven't made a Journal in like three years. Anyway-

I recently ran across two artists that seem to do stunning work, and yet they somehow have an unacceptable lack of watchers. So, go check them out and give them some attention, aye?

He's another artist that is kind of criminally under-watched for the quality of their work - and I myself only learned of them recently, but they're awesome and you should give his stuff a look.

As for how I came to know them, I won a YCH piece from Wetblush as a patreon reward and he's the one who did the art. And I must say, it turned out wonderfully~

Unfortunately I haven't really been driven to do any of my own artwork for some time, which kind of sucks, but I HAVE been rather behind on reuploading images other people did for me.

I'm going to put them here on my main account now, since FurAffinity has since provided support for gallery folders and the like to help organize things - so I don't feel the need to continue maintaining my  BlazeInbox account - but I will leave it there since I have had a number of older commissions placed there.

So this is just a bit of a heads up. As a bit of an example of how bad I've been - some of my un-uploaded commissioned images are from 2015. Yikes.

For whatever reason he's uploaded everything in his scraps which is probably why discovery has been so bad, but the art he's done is really damn cool. Also he seems to draw a lot of herm-on-male stuff which is like the best thing.

Pretty good first impressions.

A few things need to be worded out of course but it's great to see FA being improved fucking finally. I like how there is a search bar on the top left all the time so you don't have to go in to a separate screen to run a search.

A few points I think need a little work, however; at the top of a user's profile, the first section is a large preview image on the left and the thumbnails you can hover over to change the preview on the right. The thumbnails you can click to go to the respective image, but the larger preview you cannot. I'd like to see the preview being clickable too.

Also an even more minor point, there needs to be some differentiation between the title and the artist username below images. The title is in bold and the artist is in itallic, but they're right up against eachother. It'd be better if there was some space between them, or if the artist was on the next line below the title instead.

But, largely positive opinions so far. I'll see how things progress with the new UI in the future.

Okay so!

Haven't felt like art recently but I will be trying to get some more art out here in the next week or two. For now I'm still making videos about "ze warframez", which I hope to have done today.

Also, I got myself a new keyboard. It's a Corsair K70. I had not had any experiences with mechanical keyboards before now, but I think I kinda like it. I have the red switches so there is no tactile feedback like most mechanical switches, but it still feels noticeably different to anything I had used before. Also most importantly, it has amazing lighting options. RAINBOWS EVERYWHERE. >D

But seriously though, it is quite good. Only thing I can really complain about is that it's harder to hit shift and control at the same time since control is placed lower down than I'm used to. So it makes sliding a little harder in Warframe but I'll get used to it soon enough. Just need to press my little finger further down than I am used to.

And finally, something specific to Furaffinity, in the last couple of weeks my watcher count has jumped up by 13. WHERE DID Y'ALL FUCKERS COME FROM!?

I kid, I kid. I love you all and thank you so much for being here... feels really odd to almost be at 100 watchers again. And this account has come further in less than a year than my old xBlazex account did in three. Not sure how to feel about it, but it is wonderful.

Sigma, Obrum and Nara went home after New Year's but Ayase and I are there until the 6th. We went and got sushi and looked around Leeds a bit but most interestingly went to a sex shop called Pules and Cocktails.

Lots of interesting stuff there actually. The usual offerings of sex toys (some quite large though not all that many I found intimidating... though one was shaped and sized like a fucking garden gnome. Ouch.) but a few things caught my attention. There were a tonne of really super cute outfits I would have loved to get but sadly those will have to wait until I move out. I would rather not get badgered by my family when those show up on the washing line to dry.

Also they had an offering of dolls and cutouts and stuff, one of which was a futanari oddly enough. Well, dickgirl. Dick plus boobs. Fun but dolls are not my kinda thing sadly. :V

I did however go to the bondage section and pick up a collar and some wrist cuffs. The collar is fairly unassuming; just a few push-buttons to close it and has some chains at the front. Mostly an accessory but I like it. The cuffs are more substantial though; they have a d-ring on them and have a double belt clasp. And they're all actually super comfy.

So yes, my inner furry is showing. No regrets. :V

Well some regrets. Poor Sora doesn't do well with sex stuff and after the outfits he blocked everything out. He seems fine now but he was kinda out of it for a while. I was rather worried. Neeko and I gave him much hugs. :c

Sigma also brought his boyfriend Obrum along, and as always Neeko is joined by her long-time friend Sora who sadly doesn't have an FA account. We're staying at Neeko and Sora's place for a while; Ayase and I am staying until the 6th while Sigma, Obrum and Nara are here for not quite as long.

Last year was pretty awesome. We used Jackbox and played a tonne of party games for a few hours, mostly Fibbage but also a bit of others. Turns out I was pretty good at fibbage; I tended to make some fairly convincing lies that ended up rocketing myself ahead. Although occasionally the correct answer to the fill-in-the-blanks stuff was fucking weird in and of itself.

Sadly I was not so great at Word Spud or Drawful but oh well. Sora was actually pretty good at Drawful actually. And Word Spud resulted in some of the most hilariously bad fanfic-sounding stories by the end. One snippet I remember is "dark like the inky blackness of the depths of my eyeballs".

But stuff is pretty awesome over here and it's nice to meet most of the rest of my friends.

My new year's resolutions if you're in to that: draw more, and when I get the go-ahead get moved out and maybe get a job. The whole depression thing set me back as far as all of those went and now that it is largely dealt with I'd like to get myself back together in general.

Now that I've finished that image I can do my yearly comparison again. :D

God seeing that last one is painful.

Also to compare backgrounds, Here's a different one from last year. Funnily enough both of the really complex backgrounds I have done involved Mana. :V

Main things I notice myself are that I am better with backgrounds in general though I have no idea if I can do foliage. Then again both of those backgrounds murdered me so who knows. General style seems to have settled in since last year but there have been refinements. Better hair, better eyes, somewhat better lighting and shading, maybe slight refinements with hands.

I feel like I'm drawing Blaze slightly more effeminately as well but maybe that's just because of the outfit in the recent picture.

But yes, improvements all around.

Although my art isn't the only thing that has improved. For the last year and a half (though the last year was especially noticeable. It has likely been creeping up on me for even longer.) I had been dealing with depression. Started as far as I know somewhere in my last year of university and then hit me especially hard at the start of this year in the months I was waiting to be referred to the mental health team. Went for talk therapy since before summer, which fairly recently. That helped a lot with some of the nastier issues but it hadn't helped solve the underlying mood issues, and I knew that if I left it there I'd just slip back in to what I was like before so, before the last therapy session I spoke with my GP and decided antidepressants were probably quite necessary in the end. Been on them for a month now and I actually feel normal again. Which compared to what I had been, is fan-fucking-tastic.

Still need to take things slowly and not rush back in but I am more or less ready to start piecing things back together. Will likely try and do art more often, might open up commissions again in the future, and try and get my programming skills back up to scratch at some point. But things are looking up for the future, which is pretty great.

I will say though, to those that might be reading this; if everything seems empty, if almost everything you did that you used to enjoy stops giving you enjoyment (Anhedonia), if you just plain feel sad all the time... talk to a doctor. It isn't normal. And you don't have to just live with it. Especially if you are already an adult but even if you're still 'growing up', whatever period of life people arbitrarily deem is still growing up at the time.

I'm lucky; I had friends that pushed me to seek the help I needed because I just couldn't see it myself. I guess I'm something of a "heart on their sleeve" type. But regardless, if you feel that way, think about it. Depression is surprisingly common and it is deeply misunderstood by a lot of people. And keep your friends close. They may get frustrated with you sometimes, but they'll care about your well-being if they are indeed your friends.

I am working on one pretty big image now again involving  manasan so that should turn out well. Should be done by the end of the month. Before a week's time if all goes well but whenever I try and pin a deadline on my stuff it never, ever works out so let's just assume I won't be finished until next year and then it'll possibly be done tomorrow, who knows. Either way I'll be using it as my point of comparison for my year-in review.

Well, the year-in review is like a month and a half late, but oh well.

There are a bunch of things I'd like to do when that is done, like finally give K'Sara an up to date reference sheet or two, but I shall see.

Been playing a tonne of Warframe as well. I have already clocked 500 hours in it somehow. Which funnily enough is actually more than my entire time in Planetside 2 according to steam, which is nuts. Zephyr is so much fun. As is Valkyr. Possible fanart at some point but who knows what the future holds~

Finally the silly part of my brain that gets impulsive and wants to draw another artist some gift art might have started turning again, but I'll need to check in with them to see if there's anything I can come up with that would work.

Sorry for the slight vagueness through all of this but, like I said, any time I try to pin stuff down it almost invariably goes tits-up, so perhaps this will help make it feel like there's no huge pressure to demotivate me or something.

Okay, I'm just going to move over here.

First I'm going to upload a few choice 'recent' images here from my last FA account. I'll leave stuff I did for other people on the old account so they don't end up with holes in their favorites list.

In a day or two I'll try and get something posted up there with my Laptop (which still has log-in credentials for the old account) to announce the move, change the profile to yell "go here instead" and then just leave it to die. Which totally sucks because my old account now has like 99 watchers and I was excited to hit triple digits, but then I was a moron and created the problem which required this account in the first place so I guess that's my punishment. Oh well.

Also I actually have a new art piece finally so I'll get that up after the re-uploads of the like 5 images I actually want to move over from the old account which are not things for other people. Should just take a few minutes.

Copied over my profile information and the people I was watching on my last account while my laptop still has the old login information so I don't lose track of anyone.
