Music Work and School Flew Out the Window. xD
Posted 11 years agoSo, yeah, school flew out the window. . . Not too happy about that. Either way, Kanpai to not spending an extra $9,000 I don't have on a course that pretty much just goes over everything I already know about studio shit. xD
When the time is right, I'm going to start taking music type courses at a local community college. I'll probably start on that next semester. Right now, it's too close to the cutoff point.
Also, my musical hibernation is coming to an end I think, since I've been working on this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14358414/ Those of you who've been watching me for awhile will know what this is when you click it. xD

Sound Engineering Courses, etc. (an update)
Posted 11 years agoSince one of my favorite places to be is behind a recording workstation, I've decided it would be wise for me to go back to school for Audio Engineering (with the possibility of working toward an associates degree, etc etc.) I start at Musicians Institute in the fall, sometime around October.
In other news, my mother's living with me now: shit kind of hit the fan for her and... well... I wouldn't leave a lost kitten on the side of the road, let alone my MOTHER, so she's been with me for the past two months. Home cooked meals that I don't have to prepare FTW.
Oh, and I guess I never mentioned to you guys that I got another hair stylist gig a few months back: I'm working at a Great Clips in Central LA. I'm also working for myself as a traveling stylist, and I go between Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties for my work, so if anyone ever needs their hair taken care of, my prices are CHEAP (That is unless you frequent an $8 chop shop, in which case, my prices are "fair") and my work is top notch salon quality. I do a little bit of everything: Cuts, styles, colors, keratin treatments, the whole lot.
So, now I get to balance School, Work, Other Work, and keeping my mate and my Mother from killing each other. xD Oh the life of a Michie. And mind you, this is just scratching the surface. :3

Any Alto voices who can harmonize at CF '14?
Posted 11 years agoAs most of you know, I preformed in the cabaret last year adorned in a midriff zip-up preforming KT Tunstal's Miniature Disasters.
This year, I was thinking it would be a good idea to kick things up a notch and arrange to preform a duet. I love harmonies, and although I could just record harmonies of my own voice before the fact, I'd much rather prefer to get a young lady on stage with me who has prior experience with singing harmonies.
I just thought it'd be fun. Do any of y'all know of anyone? :3

Building a Clientele
Posted 12 years agoBuilding a Clientele is never easy. Most people call upon their friends, family, and everyone in their reach to lend a hand with it. However, when your family is dispersed across the country, and all your social connections are 50 miles away, the challenge becomes much greater. If you throw in on top of that starting a new job with commission based pay, only a hand full of "walk in's", and being behind on your bills from the start, shit starts to get real... FAST.
This is the position I'm finding myself in currently. I started a new job at a salon in Downtown LA, and while the salon is a high end private salon and I could easily live off doing 2 simple haircuts a day (or 10 a week,) the issue I'm faced with is getting butts in my chair. Every day, I've been out in the streets, cards and fliers in hand, offering people my services (for free mind you) and honestly, nobody here gives a flying fuck about what I have to offer, nor the value of my service.
Bearing in mind that my financial situation is very fragile, this is getting extremely frustrating, not to mention discouraging. It honestly doesn't matter how much I pound the fucking pavement: I can't get the ball rolling enough to make ends meat, let alone get ahead. My only chance of making this situation work is by focusing on networking 24/7, as well as going out and meeting people. However, going out costs MONEY, which i have NILL of, and because this whole situation is so disheartening I have absolutely no motivation to do so from the start.
SO! That's my current situation. Now, I currently have no real connections to any furies in LA as far as I know. However, I'm sure at least one of you fuzz butts know someone in my area. If you know someone in LA who is obsessed with their hair, and doesn't mind paying a pretty penny to keep it perfect, please be a doll and refer them to me. My actual name is Michael Mastroianni, I work at "Salon on Main" in DTLA. If you Google it, it comes up with all the information they'll need to book an appointment.
TL:DR?
I need to build a clientele or else I will starve. If you know anyone, furry or not, in Downtown LA, please tell them about Michael Mastroianni at Salon on Main

FA, how I've missed you... And car issues cause life issues.
Posted 12 years agoI've finally sifted through a good 800 submissions.
I was just going through all my old journals. I honestly love how they really document all the major events in my life, as well as the support I was able to obtain from everyone.
So, once again I'm looking at an issue that could potentially put my LA lifestyle in jeopardy. It's funny how one wobbly domino, let's call it "bad tranny," can cause such a ruckus. Lets say "Bad tranny" decides to wobble all around, and eventually falls over. In the process, it knocks over the domino next to it: let's call it "Fantastic Sam." Then goes the next one: "Clientele." Then it's "Rent," "Apartment," and finally "Location."
Learn well kiddies: This is why you don't ever buy a car for less than $3,000.
Now I'm looking at having to potentially change out my favorite domino! I honestly don't want to leave my job at Fantastic Sam's in Torrance. I love it there. But I need a vehicle that can get there without the transmission slipping when I push the gas in 1/16 of an inch too far. Unfortunately, no dealership in their right mind will finance me, due to my lack of credit, not to mention my student loans which are on the verge of going into default. I don't have the cash to buy another car outright, and I can't pull enough cash out of selling/ trading in/ scrapping my Saturn to get anything equal value, let alone something more worth my while.
So, my fuzzies, I have some questions for you.
1.) Any recommendations on the Saturn?
2.) Does anyone know of a Mid-level salon in the Downtown LA area? Ya know, not too shady, not too snobby, but just right?

    Holiday Plans
Posted 13 years agoI'm headed out to Arizona for Christmas again. My dad decided it would be a good idea to bail on my Nana when he promised to go with her to Las Vegas... albeit, he WAS attending a family wedding... However, to make up for my dad's cop out, I decided to go visit my grandmother in Maricopa Arizona (A.K.A. Bum-Fukd Egypt.)
Wish myself and "Watermelon" (my car) the best of luck on the trip. ^^

I honestly believe that sometimes...
Posted 13 years agoI honestly believe that sometimes, while on the internet, I'm surrounded by stupid people... ^^
Tonight, my beliefs were confirmed... and all I could do was laugh. xD Laugh at the amount of sheer redundant idiocy being spouted, as if it were an actual conversational matter.

I haiz car. ^^
Posted 13 years agoIt's a Saturn SC2 just like my last car. xD
I loved that POS so much that I bought another. xD
This one is a 1998, forest green model. Mechanically she's pretty sound, with a few issues here and there (One in particular being that the temperature gauge doesn't function, which is both at the same time, not a big deal, and A BIG DEAL.) Cosmetically... Ugh. xD She's more ghetto cosmetically than Purple drank.
I've decided to name her Watermelon.
Wanna see me? Tell me now. This 'yote's mobile. ^^

Murry Christmas Raffle
Posted 13 years agoHookah, Job, and Lazy!
Posted 13 years agoI'm sitting in Psycho's living room puffing slowly on his mini hookah, and some Code 69. ^^ It's my way of celebrating obtaining my licensure, and getting my job with Fantastic Sam's. It's not much, but it's nice.
So, to give some details on the job with Fantastic Sam's salon: I'll be working at both the El Segundo location in the plaza on Grand, and in the Torrance location in the plaza on the corner of Crenshaw, and PCH. In theory, this is a GREAT thing! I like the idea! Unfortunately, while the El Segundo salon is within walking distance of my home, the Torrance location is 12 miles away. I'd have no issues with this whatsoever if I had a car, a motorcycle, even a scooter to get there.
They're going to be relying on me to be the "flexible" individual of the salon. Not only will I be working odd hours to begin with, but I'm going to be the "go to" guy for covering shifts either in El Segundo or in Torrance. Thank god for public transit: I can at least GET there. But I wouldn't really be able to pull off anything on short notice. The 20 minute drive to Torrance is converted to an hour bus ride. Not having my own transportation puts me in a less flexible position. SO, This will be my first goal: get a car, a cycle, or a scooter.
I'm also procrastinating on EVERYTHING: I've officially caught the lazy. I have dishes to do, a room to clean, music to edit, and supplies to pack for my first day of work tomorrow. And once I start work, keeping up with all my side projects is going to become remotely harder. SO, I need to get rid of the lazy.

I'M A COSMETOLOGIST AGAIN! (I'm also staying in CA)
Posted 13 years agoIt's been a year, almost to the day, since I moved back here to CA. I find it befitting to have bestowed upon me the ability to reach my full potential with the admission of the state board of Cosmetology that I do in fact know what the hell I'm doing.
I have a job lined up already with Fantastic Sam's. The El Segundo store (where I will be working) is very nice, in my opinion, and the stylists there seem to be close knit! I'll let you all know how that's going with time. For now, It's an immediate solution. It could be long term, but we'll have to see what opportunities open up for me!
This also means that I will be STAYING in California, and not moving back to Ohio (which was my plan B in the event of a failure of my exam.) I'll be back to visit, of course, as soon as things settle with Fantastic Sams. I'll let everyone know my travel plans via journal, so keep your eyes peeled. ^^

May Be Moving... AGAIN.
Posted 13 years agoSince things are starting to really point in this direction, I thought it would be a good time to alert you all that I may be moving to Ohio for a few months.
I got a call from a salon in the area I use to live in... I applied there about two days ago, and they're already getting in contact with me. It's the first call for a job that I've gotten in months. I have to take it seriously.
I also considered moving back for my cousin, Alena; she hasn't been in good mental health as of late, and her and I are quite close. I may be able to lend a hand in keeping her sane.
Financially, this is currently the best option I have available to me.
Now, I've not given up on living in California. I love it here too much. That's why I'm labeling this move "Temporary." I'm still going to go through with my State Board Examination for Cosmetology for the state of CA in November so that I can at least START on getting my licensure here in order. I don't expect to pass it fully. I know I can definitely knock out the written exam, but the practical may be what does me in again. Even if I'm able to knock out both parts of the exam, and get my licensure in CA, I'll still be headed to Ohio. This ties back in with the financial issues I'm having at the moment: Even if I were to get a salon job here in CA, I would be faced with the ever so troublesome "housing" issue. After that, god knows what else. I need to get into a position where the variables are less exponential.
Once I move, If I haven't gotten my license in CA yet, I'll be working toward getting that in order. I'm hoping that within 3 months, I'll have my CA Cosmetology License. From there, I'll definitely start looking for work here in CA, and look toward moving back.
If I actually get my license, I'm still going to Ohio for a few months, 3 tops. And the same plan will ensue.
Tell me what you guys think. I'll be back later with more updates. ^^

Michia Elvelian has a NEW FB!
Posted 13 years agoThe Submission Cleanup Has Started
Posted 13 years agoI'm sad that it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. But, with my new Facebook page up and running, I don't want traffic to find its' way over to the freebies here.
All the music that will be featured on my upcoming album has been removed. The rest will be staying up for now, until I decide whether I'll be revitalizing them.

I am now signed with Ampridaux Records
Posted 13 years agoI mentioned in a journal earlier that I may be looking at selling my music for my upcoming album. This fleeting dream has become a reality with the help of
bandit and his label "Ampridaux Records."
Due to this, a majority of my gallery will be disappearing soon. This is not a request of Ampridaux records, and I am acting of my own accord. If I'm going to be seriously selling my music, I can't be letting freebies go without so much as a care in the world. Some of the projects in my gallery have been built upon since their upload, and they will be featured on my first album. Honestly though, I don't feel that the work in my gallery is far enough off the mark from the work on my album. What it comes down to is: I don't want people settling for the "quality built" Chinese knock-off when the full product is available, and none-too expensive.
So, while I will be keeping some of my projects in my gallery, some of them will be TOAST. Of course, I will be posting links to their new and improved counterparts when they arrive on the market!
In other news, be on the lookout for hot singles from my upcoming album, "A Dawning Reality."
