A question about death...
General | Posted 17 years agoWe know animals are afraid of pain but are they afraid of death?
Something odd about movies.
General | Posted 17 years agoI just noticed this yesterday as I watched a movie on my computer. For some reason I had to go to the bathroom a lot more than average. I got up 7 times in an hour and 40 minutes, that's about 1400% more often than normal.
What the heck? I don't normally go that much, what's going on with movies that makes that happen?

Weird thoughts - Energy is awesome.
General | Posted 17 years agoI find that when we think about energy we most often imagine radiation (light, heat) since we can actually see and feel it. Kinetic energy is however what even those things are made of, and kinetic energy is so abstract that it's impossible to visualize.
Even the idea that we are capable of moving seems sort of bizarre to me. Our ability to move seems to be enabled by our ability to convert a source of potential energy into our own motion. This whole process on a completely basic level (assuming all matter is made of energy) is simply the redistribution of energy.
Now here's something really weird to think about. Why can we use momentum to increase our potential energy but require the potential energy of food to sustain our other movements? Why can't we simply absorb energy from any potential source and maintain our motion through that?
When I refer to motion I am referring to both the behavior of our cells' chemical systems and atomic movement.

Something odd about socks.
General | Posted 17 years agoIt seems weird to me, but am I the only one that actually puts the same sock on the same foot every time I take them off?
If the sock was originally on the left I'll somehow always put it on the left again if I've taken it off for some reason.
Just strikes me as odd :P

For the Warhammer 40k Fans
General | Posted 17 years agoStraight to DVD movie is in preliminary development. I know because I was just working at the studio that was doing some of the demo material. It may not make it into full production but cross your fingers.
The plot seems to revolve around the Ultramarines and forces of Chaos. But aside from that I haven't seen much. Very prelim stuff.
So yeah, feel free to speculate :)

An unpleasant trend. (Bit of a rant)
General | Posted 17 years agoI've noticed that often when I bring up controversial topics I get inundated with the same talking points over and over. I'm quite aware of the sources and I have to say that television is not a reliable medium for getting your opinions.
To make matters worse many people will be asking for references that I should cite and then when provided either refuse to read them, refuse to believe them or simply stick by what they've heard in the media up to that point.
It's very important to look things up for yourself rather than being a mouth piece for the status quo. It really doesn't do much to demonstrate intelligence when your only sources are commercial interests and pop culture.
I know it can be hard to look for unbiased information, especially in this age of rampant PR and FUD but please try. You owe it to yourselves.
If you're using an online search engine to look up a subject and you encounter an enormous number of hits it's very likely that a majority of them are based on PR. You'll really need to dig deep to find any true information.
I've found that of the mainstream sources only PBS and the BBC are even remotely reliable.
Edit: I'd also like to include that this kind of stuff even comes from those who agree with what I'm saying.

So parliament doesn't want people knowing if what they're eating is GM. I wonder what kind of argument they'll use for keeping people in the dark. Now I know it says "will not mandate" but it will only be a matter of time before someone labels their food GM free and this thing gets really messy. As has already been demonstrated in the US
And as always I'm sure there's going to be some controversy so I'll just address the major points I'm sure to hear in regards to GM crops.
-GM Crops have higher yield: Only when use in conjunction with specifically designed fertilizers and even then not by much.
-GM Crops are pest resistant: They're resistant because they're poisonous, they continue to be poisonous even after harvesting.
-GM Crops grow in harsher conditions: Tell that to the tens of thousands of indian farmers commiting suicide when their GM cotton plants died in a drought.
That should take care of the GM supporter talking points :3

Oh well; I should be able to find another one by the end of the month, and I'll hopefully be able to help the others that were let go find some too.
No worries, I'm financially quite stable :3

"Sin" and understanding it.
General | Posted 17 years agoA bizarre journal I'm sure but you're all used to that from me :)
Anyway I'm sure you're all familiar with the concept of sin, though unlikely to understand what a sin actually is or even why it's a sin. There are all sorts of things considered sins. Some range from the obvious (don't kill people) to the downright bizarre (shellfish and pork ).
However what's lost to most people and to time itself is what binds all these godly faux pas together. It's surprisingly simple once you start noticing the pattern and understanding the self.
A sin is simply the outward expression of a spiritual need unfulfilled. If our spiritual needs are not being addressed we will engage in our physical survival needs. Those just happen to be the needs for eating, sleeping, reproducing. If you expand those you'll see that the 7 deadly sins are exactly that. Envy, greed and anger are all expressions of the same drive to reproduce through the elevation of one's status. Sloth, Gluttony, Lust and pride are self explanatory.
But what of the more bizarre ones? In many cases they are old laws meant to protect people from illnesses and to keep genetic diversity healthy.
Then of course there are the spiritual sins. "Have no god before me", "there is only one god" etc. These are meant as guides to prevent us from straying into the worship of idols and from falling off a healthy spiritual path. If you find yourself engaging in such things the you can easily verify that you're going the wrong way.
Commiting sins do in a way damn you, but not through the action of the sin, only through the un-fulfillment of the spiritual need related to it. If you do not address your spiritual needs you will always feel empty and will attempt to alleviate that feeling through the action of sins.
Forgiveness: You simply need to understand and forgive yourself of your sins and you can move forward. That's all it takes to escape a self destructive spiral.
Ex. Do you masturbate because it feels good or do you masturbate because it's the only thing that feels good ? Therein lies the distinction :P

My response to the Porn v non-porn discussion
General | Posted 17 years agoI wrote this comment on Strypes journal and I think it's a relevant perspective to consider.
I think the very porn aspect of this community that so many people speak against is actually what makes it so unique. It takes quite a bit of imagination to come up with some of the bizarre fetishes that furries seem love and it's even more challenging to push those ideas to their limits. It's not simply about art but about pushing the boundaries of emotion and sexuality in images.
You can't try to apply the same standards to the furry community that would be applied to a community like conceptart.org or other such groupings. Furry isn't just about the animals it's about the use of an external avatar that is capable of enhancing and creating new experiences for those that use them. The animal merely sets a neutral stage completely open to the application of any emotions we desire.
Anyone can draw a squirrel with boobs the size of dump trucks and 15 cocks but it really takes a true artist to make that appealing.
Things like this can't really be explored in other communities as easily as with furry.

So yeah I'm turning into a vegetarian or something :P
General | Posted 17 years agoPurifying the body and whatnot.
Seems the only way to maximize health is to be primarily vegetarion and reduce meat consumption down to 1-2 servings a week. When and what those are are of course determined by the body itself.
Oh and I'm starting to unlock my chi flow. There's some neat effects to it that's for sure. It's not even very hard, who'd have thought. Just need to stick with it and push myself more each day.

General | Posted 17 years agoThis guy really knows what he's talking about. I saw him in Detroit last week. Too bad he had to dumb down what he was talking about for the audience, but he's a great public speaker and he really did know how to talk to people.
Despite appearance he's not religious at all nor does he advocate any religious practices.

Pc probs fixed!
General | Posted 17 years agoAll issues past and present have been fixed. Though it seems to have problems automatically shutting down now. Oh well I'm sure that minor thing is easy to fix. For now I'm enjoying playing with a 42" Hi Def LCD tv screen (temporarily). It's fun :D
More PC Woes :(
General | Posted 17 years agoThis is a new one. My monitor screwed up my video card. Tried to plug in an lcd tv in it with my lcd screen. Turns out you can't mix VGA and DVI without messing up the card (8800 GTS). Seems to be a common problem too -_-
So yeah if you don't hear from me for a bit it's because my comp is either in the shop or my brother and I are still trying to fix it.

Style Meme !
General | Posted 17 years agoStolen from Thorn :3
1. Do I have a distinct style of drawing?
2. If so, what exactly is it that defines my "style"?
3. Would you say my art usually follows a 'theme'?
4. Is there anything I really need to improve on or change?
5. Does my style (if I have one) remind you of/look like the style of anyone else?
6. Judging from whatever art of mine that you've seen, what do you think I do the best at?
7. What do you think I suck at?
Share :D

Another philosophical topic: Why I am both for and against t
General | Posted 17 years agoAh likes to make pplz think :3
It might seem odd that I could hold two conflicting viewpoints, especially when most people think this is a totally polarizing subject. There is an in-between position that is not "in certain cases".
I feel that death should not be used as a punishment or deterrent but that it should be used as it is with animals. To euthanize those that are unfit to re-enter society. Death is constantly shown in a negative light, as is killing, but I ask why is killing wrong and death bad? It does not cause suffering, it's a natural part of life and we all must die at some point. Killing is only ever wrong if those that are killed could have an actual future. Would you deny a person who's future is to be nothing but a vegetable in constant pain the freedom to die? Is their death a punishment if they seek it out? So why then do we consider death a punishment when it can be a kindness?
