Dance Mat Games?
General | Posted 17 years agoI've got two dance mats and I love playing with em but dancing can get repetitive. Any suggestions for other games that would be fun with a dance mat interface? I have a gamepad profiler so i can make them behave like joysticks or keyboard, maybe even mouse but that may be a bit tougher.
They both have 8 buttons but since i only have two feet relatively simple controls are a must :P
2 player games preferred.

Gradients in life and reality.
General | Posted 17 years agoGradient: (N)
1. the degree of inclination, or the rate of ascent or descent, in a highway, railroad, etc.
2. an inclined surface; grade; ramp.
3. Physics.
a. the rate of change with respect to distance of a variable quantity, as temperature or pressure, in the direction of maximum change.
b. a curve representing such a rate of change.
It may not be obvious when looking at all the variety of things in the world but gradients are present within and between all of them. If you look at the sky as the sun makes its rounds you see the sky change color in a gradient. When water is heated its temperature changes in a gradient no matter how rapidly you heat it. When you look at the Electromagnetic spectrum you can see where all the known forms of radiation appear on a wavelength gradient.
But why do people not notice that all these things may lie upon the same gradient? If we look at animals they are divided not by their appearance but by their genes. Speciation occurs when two animals cannot create viable offspring. However this is not a strict separation as flukes can still happen and some members of one species may in fact be closer to another than the other members. Thus creating viable offspring and blurring species boundaries.
If we look back at the EM spectrum we can see that the radiation types change from wave to wave/particle to particle. Why does the periodic table not connect to this same gradation? We know that as elements decay they give off these types of radiation so where does the distinction between the two series exist? Even now we are discovering particles that do not fit into the either group but instead in between. The periodic table itself is a gradient based on density starting at hydrogen. The divisions between the elements are further blurred by the presence of isotopes, just like with animals.
Life exists in such gradations as well, with viruses being the intermediate between live and inert though not clearly being either. How far away from the simple elements of the periodic table is the virus?
I may not have worded this very clearly but I hope you can understand the jist of it. It's hard to explain such abstract subjects.

General | Posted 18 years agoSomething bizarre to think about (physics)
General | Posted 18 years agoMatter is funny stuff. We know it's composed mostly of empty space with a tiny little nucleus and even smaller electron orbiting around it. It's amazing that atoms don't fall through each other, except for all that magnetic repulsion stuff that is.
Here's where it gets really bizarre. We know that matter is made up of energy ,E=MC^2 and all that , but not many people really consider what that means.
Here's the physics related definition:
The capacity to do work; the property of a system that diminishes when the system does work on any other system, by an amount equal to the work so done; potential energy. Symbol: E
a thermodynamic quantity equivalent to the capacity of a physical system to do work; the units of energy are joules or ergs; "energy can take a wide variety of forms
The key there is that energy is not a "thing" it has no substance at all, it's merely something the results of which we can observe. But energy itself has no such property as it's merely a concept.
Matter is composed of energy which is simply the capacity to do work. In other words all that matter around you is actually an abstract concept of work, not material. But what exactly is the system doing the work if it itself is work?
Believing that the world is an illusion really isn't far off since by our understanding it doesn't exist in the first place :)

I swear I've asked something like this before, oh well it seems to be making the rounds :P
1.) What do you like about my art? What, specifically, do you think are my strengths/what drew you to +watch me?
2.) If you had to pick only one thing, what do you think I do best, artwise?
3.) If you had to pick only one thing [or 20?], what do you think I could do better, artwise?
4.) What does a picture need in order for you to comment on it or favourite it?
5.) Why did you join Fur Affinity?
6.) How old are you?(I really don't see the relevence of this question XD.)

Glarg, more computer problems.
General | Posted 18 years agoThings got so bad that i had to reinstall windows today. Unfortunately that only solved one of the problems, it still won't boot up without the xp disk in the drive, always complaining about the hal.dll file. Seems fixing the boot.ini file didn't help with that. Replacing the hal.dll file broke my windows; so that's out of the picture. To top it all off my motherboard isn't being properly detected so my raid array isn't showing up, nor are my networking slots. Gaaah, I hate this stuff. If I knew what drivers i needed to install it may work but so far nothing seems to help. I got the SATA slots to pick up though so at least my external drive shows up now.
I've got an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard if anyone has any advice.

So what kind of pics would you all like to see?
General | Posted 18 years agoJust felt like asking and seeing if something piques my interest :)
I may also be tempted to try my hand at some abstract art since I have slight synaesthesia. I can basically interpret almost anything as an image, especially physical sensations and emotions; but it also applies to pretty much everything else. It may be interesting to try to depict some of the images I see every day. One of my favorite early pictures was actually inspired by the sensation of my left shoulder blade's edge catching the corner of a pillow.

New Facebook Game, graphics by me!
General | Posted 18 years agohttp://apps.facebook.com/battlepets/
I designed all the art assets for this game. It's similar to pokemon and features a dozen bizarre and cute creatures for you to do battle with. You can even fight your friends and equip your creatures for battle. It's quite fun compared to a majority of facebook games. What with actual gameplay and all that :P
Everyone add it, and start playing. It's not visible for public play yet for another few days and with everyone 's help all the bugs can be reported and tweaks made. Get in on the ground floor :)

General | Posted 18 years agoI'm back online and in Costa Rica where it's room temperature outside all year round :D
My online activity will be sporadic at best as I'm currently looking for a place to rent.

Costa Rica Bound !
General | Posted 18 years agoArrangements have been made and tickets bought. A friend of mine and I will be heading to Costa Rica on Nov. 7th. We're still looking for places to rent and have focused our search on the Escazu area of San Jose.
If we can't find a place before leaving we'll be spending our first week or two in a hotel looking for apartments.
If you happen to live in San Jose and could give us a hand I would be very appreciative ;)

I Can't See My Own Art....
General | Posted 18 years agoObejctively that is. When I look at anything I've drawn I can't actually see what I've drawn. The image is very different from what anyone else would see. I know this because with considerable effort I can focus my mind to view things I've created objectively. The image I see when I draw something is a kind of mental construct or presupposition of what I've created. Thus I don't know what everyone else sees.
I also have to deal with the same thing when looking at mirrors or photos. I see 'me' but I cannot see the person that I am.
To combat this I give myself a little leeway and will assume that my art is better than I see it to be, yet I am still routinely surprised by the comments that people leave and how much people seem to enjoy my art.
I think everyone has to deal with this though, but I doubt many realize it. Many artists are self-deprecating and see their works as inferior to so many, but they will even see vastly inferior works as superior to their own. An objective viewpoint is very important, and if you can't manage it instead just assume you're about 20% better than you think you are; after all you have no idea what anything you create looks like :P

Games for Art Trades: Pimping for nephis_dragon

He's trading 2 video games (Half-Life 2 & Half-Life 2: Episode 1) for a pic of his character. I'd do it myself but i have those games already, but maybe you want copies and are itching to do some drawing.
He's also a really good 3d artist, show your support of non-poser 3d artists and go watch him now!

Thanks Everyone!
General | Posted 18 years agoI just wanted to thank everyone that enjoyed and supported my recent "coming out". I've been feeling really good and confident since I did and I want you to know that your kind words and attention have meant a lot to me. I was rather apprehensive about posting my diaper art given the negative stigma it has in the furry community.
I was not expecting a reception nearly as warm as I ended up receiving. I was afraid that people would stop visiting my gallery or shunning me but it seems my fears were unfounded. In fact I've noticed an opposite trend. I'm hearing back from artists I'd lost contact with, I'm getting comments from people that I thought weren't interested in my works and I feel that my art has improved just from the freedom this has offered me. It's nice to know that I don't have to hide any art from you guys :)
I know I can't expect all my fans to like my diaper art or even to view it objectively, but I want everyone to know that I don't hold it against them after all I have the same aversion to M/M adult pics :P
I'm hoping I don't upset too many people with this and I'm going to be labeling my diaper pics in their titles. I want to consider all my pics the same regardless of content so that I feel free from having to make special consideration for each image I draw.
-Feel the Love :D

Understand your popularity on FA
General | Posted 18 years agoI see lots of journals from people that worry about their popularity on this site and if people are giving them enough attention. Lots of people think that if they draw porn they'll become more popular. I'm going to show you a few things that should clarify how popular you are on this site.
First off everything is ultimately a factor of the number of watchers you currently have. The determining factor for the total number of watchers is a combination of artistic skill, subject matter, total number of submitted images, humor, community involvement and finally personality. This is the common order that influences watcher numbers from increasing influence to decreasing. Artistic skill is easily the most important factor and makes up roughly 60% of your total watching population. Subject matter can add up to 25% more people and includes whether you draw porn or not. Humor can draw in watchers as well as funny things are more likely to be shared. Community involvement is a factor of how much fan art you draw of popular characters, how many trades and commissions you do and whether you attend cons and actively engage the furry community. Personality can also be an important factor as some people will forego watching people they don't like, but most people will watch anyway if the other factors are high enough.
On to the ratios:
Your total number of views, favs and comments are each also a factor of the total number of your watchers and how good the particular image is relative to the others in your gallery.
Views : Watchers = 1:2 , for every 2 watchers you can expect one view of any submission.
Faves : Watchers = 1:10 , for every 10 watchers you can expect 1 fav for a new submission.
Comments : Watchers = 1:20 , for every 20 watchers you can expect 1 comment for a new submission.
Let's say you have 1000 watchers. This would mean that an average image in your gallery will have 500 views, 100 favs and 50 comments.
If you have only 100 watchers you can expect 50 views, 10 faves and 5 comments and have the exact same popularity ratio as the one with more watchers.
These are the average ratios for an image of average quality relative to the other images in your gallery. A really nice image in your gallery will achieve double those ratios. So if you have 1000 watches and make an image that is particularly good you can attain 1000 views, 200 faves and 100 comments.
There are other methods of changing these ratios:
-Funny pic: High comment to fav ratio. People tend to comment more on funny images but won't fave them if the art isn't good.
-Risky Fetish: High view to fav ratio. Lots of people are interested in the art but are afraid of revealing their enjoyment of said fetish.
So remember
-Everything is a factor of watchers.
Views : Watchers = 1:2
Faves : Watchers = 1:10
Comments : Watchers = 1:20

Gonna move to a tropical place and need some help from local
General | Posted 18 years agoDo you live in a tropical country or have visited one as more than a tourist or know someone who fits that description? I'm looking to move to such a place and cut down my cost of living expenses to around 20% of what I'm spending now, oh and living somewhere warm too :)
I really need fast reliable internet so that I can continue to work and low crime. I've been checking out several south american countries and some islands. Originally I was thinking of Belize or Costa Rica, but now I'm thinking about Ecuador.
If you have a place you'd like to recommend send me a comment. I'm pretty good at French so I can probably pick up Spanish pretty quickly.
Oh and I'll get around to finishing up the last journal sometime soon ;)

Audio commish project is finished.
General | Posted 18 years agoWhat the title said. Though I didn't end up using anyone's audio (mostly because only 1 person was quick enough) I'll still provide a sketch for the one who was sufficiently quick.
I need Music/Audio in exchange I give commission!
General | Posted 18 years agoThat's right a once in a blue moon chance for the musically gifted out there to get some free art from me in exchange for some custom audio. I have a short piece of footage (about 15 seconds) that needs accompanying audio. It's a corporate logo so the audio will need to be appropriate.
Note me if you're interested. I've got a tight deadline.

Tough questions with Mif_Maf!
General | Posted 18 years agoI've had a difficult question on my mind for a little while now.
"Why does the survival instinct exist?"
The simple answer is of course because all life needs to ensure that it's genes get propagated, however that doesn't answer the underlying question for the desire to continue existing. All life has this instinct in some form or another, even the act of reproduction is a survival mechanism. But why does it exist. What reason is there to continue to propagate our genetic data?
I'm not cynical or pessimistic, this is just something I'm really trying to figure out. I have my theories of course; but I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Zombie horse: The 9-11 Discussion Rebuttal

A stroke of luck actually, ran into this today and after reading it, this is an excellent summary of who is responsible, why and what they had to gain as well as thorough links and articles for everything. Even news broadcasts and supporting videos and articles to support his unrelated points.
This is a VERY extensive read, all the yellow text leads to additional articles by the author or to pertinent sources.
Keep in mind Zionism: Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel. Zionist does not mean jewish and jewish does not imply zionist.
There is a lot of information here that I doubt most anyone here has heard before or even the theory connected to 9/11. He's still missing some of the pieces but for all intents and purposes he explains 9/11 extremely well.
