Hey folks! Remember the last time when I posted a journal about my essays of Derideal? Well,Good News! I got a chance to interview with some Comic talents,One of them is Chilean Comic Book Artist Andres "Kiaun" Barra,and I'm using DM on Bluesky to make a interview out of it.....So let's begin!
Q:When was the date and time for you when it created Derideal?
A: "I'm not sure exactly the day and time, but it was during 2006 when I first created the original 12 page Prelude story. It was one weekend and I made the pages in a notepad at morning before starting the day, so it was probably during summer vacations."

"I wanted to make a comic back then and tried many times with planning, but Derideal was made just quickly made after some dream I had that morning, I didn't originally planned to make such a long story or continue that prelude."
Q:What is your biggest inspiration for the story and yourself,if you can list some artist and creator and cartoonists and comic book artist no matter in yours and others.
A: "my biggest inspiration for the Derideal story I guess it's the Silent Hill 2 game, robocop and a Dune. The story blend all I liked about those, mystery psychological dread and failure, a dystopian society and biological aspects in sci-fi."

"I think I got no singular author names to mention, as I mostly remember "works" that I like and I consider big influence, comics I love like the Long Halloween and DC JLA comics from the 2000s and mostly movies like Blade Runner, Robocop and sci-fi books as Dune."

"I guess that my comic style is strongly influenced by edgiest time of American super hero comics."
Q:Mix and Pixi is so cute and fancy,about them stepping out of the shadows and step up to their incoming spotlight,what would you say so?
A: "Mix and Pixi "personal" story was on my mind since a while, because Mix originally wasn't part of the Derideal universe, and her inclusion in my imagination was later on and for some reason, both characters have been shipped together in individual arts since years, and I thought they deserved their own story."

"Pixi is been part of the Derideal expanded stories in "the void" comic since many years(way before Mix was created), and she was often mentioned as part of the favorite characters in it by readers (and she's often considered clumsy)."

"Lost Memories comic is also an experiment making a more "fun" story and see how readers like it. I also have more fun drawing in a more simple and spontaneous way.
I hope people enjoy the story and canon version of Mix, and also learn more about Pixi's past and hopefully like her some more."
Q:In 2019,you started to refresh the story from scratch (at least in notebook),with reboot/remake/refreshed storytelling and even continued from what is left from it,How do you came up with?
A: "Derideal was remade because of the old art was upsetting to me. I learned to draw by making a comic every day for years and the art and storytelling was very inconsistent. I also thought it was boring to redraw the same story, so I remade it, that way I felt it was more interesting."
Q:It's been 20 years since you started Derideal on a sunny Sunday (I persume),How can you say something to all of us? (But that ain't the last question I can ask)
A: "making anything you dream of to make will take lots of time and hard work. Begin now and Just never stop until you're done. We're never ready to "begin ' and nothing we do for that first time is gonna be perfect. Making anything to me feels like carving it out from stone, so it slow and tedious process."
Q:Contrast to Derideal,Which is dark and edgy I guess,Lost Memories will be as light and warming story,Will it release to all on I dunno in month or day's before Christmas I guess,and will it be fitting for a mitten?
A: "in a way, Lost Memories is an experiment to tell a story in a more fun and light way, but it will have a mystery and nostalgic feeling lurking underneath. it's still a Derideal story, setup in the same universe, so that is important to keep in mind."
(which means Lost Memories isn't exactly a warming story only, it might have some fun moments, but still deeply a Derideal tale)
Q:If you draw a funny comic,what would it do for Derideal?
A: "probably something with Mix and Pixi. But only short stuff."
Q:If anyone would love to see your character and your story being animated in a inide animated way like Lackadaisy and Murder Drones,or making a cameo,How can you do to suggest them?
A: "I'm not sure if I understand the question. You mean if anyone wants to animate the story? I doubt it will happen and I don't have the resources and "fan" power to make it happen either."
Q:Which favorite character you like to draw?
A: "Mix is my comfort character, I like to draw her a lot and I do draw her often for myself. She wasn't originally part of any of the comics."
Q:Can Mix finally get her socks? (maybe yours)
A: "She already has all socks she want. And when you lose a sock it was probably her fault. Sock business is always growing."
Q:Your creator sona "Kiaun" is a rabbit,and how do you talk with NOVA (your another rabbit)?
A: "Nova is the clan defender of the Exi-clan and its future leader. She must be addressed with respect. Still, I know her favorite topics so it should be easy have a fun conversation."
Q:How do you came up with a rabbit as your sona?
A: "it's nothing too fancy, my Chinese zodiac is rabbit, and I thought it fit more or less."
Q:Anything to say for the future of Derideal universe,any new concepts you been cooking on,and what can you say for all folks down here for those who enjoy all 20 year's of Derideal? (I looking forward for a celebration on these 20 year's of Derideal,excpet get a smaller than bigger)
A: "the future for the Derideal comics is the Nova continuation. Nova will be the full series and main comic after this."

"But there will be a bonus Derideal episode after the ending, an 'extended ending' episode. First in Patreon, but then it will be public too.I also hope to make a little voice chat in the Derideal discord, as celebration of Derideal ending.
Q:What is your favorite Anime/Cartoons,and maybe Video Game's or movies?
(other than Silent Hill and robocop)
A: "Battlestar Galactica, the reimagined series is my most favorite show in the universe (and it's the inspiration that got me decide to begin working in Nova in the first place)"

sigh I cannot believe it's over,you know what,mine is means to Derideal,in which I clearly knows that it has been running for nearly 20 years,in which next year will 2026,which will be the 20th year's in creation and the year after the next year 2027 will be 20 years in online* (*All according to the year's of both in creation and in online respectively,both 2006 and 2027)
One day ago,over the influences of the Derideal finale "Catharsis",in which ending a chapter of a great Webcomic in 20 years,despite style changing,Reboots and such..........
In responses to that,I personally typed the letter with enthusiasm and confidence about what I think of Derideal and it's author and how does it means for it and such.....

Hey Andres Barra AKA by most of us as “Kiaun Conejillo”,
You know,when I first look at your art,I saw some or few and I did enjoy it,but when it comes to Derideal,firstly,I was a newbie to that,but then time went by,I saw some comics,and suggestions as well as get along with the comments with it’s nature’s as well,I was fully equipped with that knowledge,like what me and my parent’s sugest I should do it,but now,I did to do so,my parent’s suugest me to myself that I should know a lot of well education to equipped myself for good future,and for my future to work and do my best dream as well,but sometimes I maybe a little difference and stupidity and lazy,but still,experience and hobbies and some wise words knows best,I might regret for miss some to do,but your Webcomic give us some confidence to all artist,I think a award fot that is also usual,you see,when in 2006,this Webcomic was originally a notebook sketch on a certain Sunday in a sunny Chile,then time went by……so does yourself,You skilled and skilled,from a simple notebook sketch,to a massive webcomic/ web-graphic novel universe full of possibilities,There is always a luck to do some,always a will to do such,I see how character suffer and pain,as we as their opposite like joy and pleasure,if there’s anything I can say for most to compare or such,is that Laura’s life is kinda remind me of such thing’s I got aside of that,for instance,just recently,I saw one of my favorite,don marquis’ “archy and mehitabel”,from what i see from mehitabel and laura,is that like mehitabel was cleopatra before,laura in your and mine’s views,was a young girl,a daughter of a doctor berit orzoco,before she was taken by death for sickness,but her father,the doctor we seen before a long ago,tried his best and did succeed outsmart the death and alive,when he resurrect her in a xeno form as a matter of part of research for a project prime,but berit was firstly refused,then regret for all that,as for the Berit Orzoco,she had any responsibility and good takes in her roles,as a mother of the late but revived daughter,misconsider as a monster at first,later deeply reconsider,and as a responsivle scientist,for Daniel Earlson,he show me how unique he is,he can treat fairly and well doing than Wally does,As for Alpha/Aden,despite being shot ant gutted twice or three times,he cannot stop,just like Winston Smith had her Julia before taken away,Aden/Alpha had Twice with Laura and Ivory in his back,and how can I say anything to Carlos Wally? Dear Folks,have you ever remember the day that Creators rights was in the hot stake for Comics,It was 1988,a dozens of Comic creators came in a a Massachusetts for a two day summits,to make a declaration of comic creators rights,and Scott McCloud was one of them,although the Bill was never made big impact as expected,but it did Influence a lot for comic creators,who can now allows them to own their work as well as artwork for their published works,no matter Indie,Mainstream,Manga,Manhwa or anything else.....

The Creator's Bill of Rights
...was written in November 1988 for a two day "Summit" of comic book artists held in Northampton, Massachusetts. The meeting had been suggested by Cerebus creator Dave Sim and hosted by local heroes Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Summit was a follow-up to a July meeting in Toronto which produced a "Creative Manifesto." Some of us found the Manifesto a bit scattered, so I wrote a rough draft of a proposed replacement. That replacement, "A Bill of Rights for Comics Creators" was accepted quickly at Sim's suggestion. The rest of that day was a non-stop argument about the document's wording.
The Bill never generated much noise in the industry and I wouldn't want to exaggerate its influence, but it provides an interesting snapshot of our attitudes at the time, and of the climate that was fueling self-publishers, progressive business people, and artists trying to reinvent the comics industry. A few years later, several top-selling Marvel artists would break from the pack and form a new company called Image, shifting the debate from rights and principles to clout and competition, but both developments would share a common premise, still relevant today: that comics creators already have the right to control their art if they want it; all they have to do is not sign it away.

I was invited in large part because I knew Laird and others through an APA I'd created called The Frying Pan. At my suggestion, Beanworld creator and "Nexus of all Comic Book Realities" Larry Marder was invited too. Larry flew out from Chicago to our place in Arlington, Massachusetts shortly before the meeting. I had the rough draft of the Bill ready but not typed yet. I vividly remember hammering it out on my old manual typewriter as Larry read my notes back to me, right before we rushed out the door to catch a succession of buses and trains to Northampton. While waiting for the bus in Springfield, we found a copy shop and photocopied my hastily typed hand-out. It was also on that trip that I showed Larry my notes for a comic book about comics that I had been working on for a few years.

After the first day of debates, everyone stumbled out of the Hotel Northhampton into the cold New England air to walk the five or so blocks to dinner. I remember Larry and I lagged behind a little. I had argued with Dave Sim about every imaginable issue that day as if my life depended on it, but walking to dinner, it all seemed pretty distant already. Larry and I talked more about my notes for the comic book about comics. I asked him if he thought those ideas would mean a lot more in the long run than anything I could accomplish in Northampton. He said yeah, they probably would.

When those notes became Understanding Comics it was Kevin Eastman's money that paid me to finish it – money he and Peter had earned because they refused to give away their creation the way so many artists had before them.

for 4 decades),if I do wanna have some team's
to do such Honor on the Late artist and his
good funny fuzzy work and beyond!
p.s. but hey! Maybe other artist and their
OC/Character/Whatsathingembob would join it
too,but only time will tell,eh?......MZ.
