Life News Update
Posted 4 years agoAnother update about my life two times in a row in a 3-month span? It must be a record.
So, I have finally gotten used to my part-time job. However, due to circumstances beyond my control as well as a long line of contemplating the options of my living arrangements, I'll be moving to a new state in the coming weeks. I'm hoping that it would help out my struggling situation the past few years, both in and out of my artistic pursuits and financial issues. There won't be much packing, since I don't have much stuff to begin with, so it's just a matter of waiting for my ride to get here.
In other news, having no AC sucks.

Some Diametrical News
Posted 4 years agoAlright guys. I have a very important announcement.
First, I am closing future commissions until further notice. I shall be working on the ones I have currently, so don't worry about those who already paid me and to my patrons. I shall be working on those as I am able.
Second, I got a part-time job so both my schedule and activities will be altered accordingly. I had to get the job due to the lack of commission frequency. Four commissions a month doesn't pay the rent, sadly. It also doesn't help I haven't been drawing as fast as I should be able to. So, in the interest of my financial future, I had to grab a part-time job. I also have to adjust my sleeping schedule too so it'll be a while before I get used to that.
That's about it, I feel that this was a big enough change to let you guys know what is going on.

Small delays in drawing.
Posted 4 years agoI wanted to add this journal to let everyone know what's been going on. Due to last week, I had to delay drawing anything. The reason for this was due to the physical demand required. I had to clean out both my garage and basement due to the landlord finding a massive amount of junk piled in them. So, because of how tired I got when I clean out every day for at least 5 hours per day, I couldn't work on any drawing lines properly. So I must apologize for the delay.
It's that time of year again!
Posted 4 years agoI am now a year older. It also means I've survived another year. Yay! :D
Internet outage
Posted 5 years agoHeya guys, a quick note here to let you know that, since Sunday, my internet was out. I am using a phone to add this, pictures will be slightly slowed down because of this, but I will be back to normally hopefully by tomorrow.
Weather report: Freakin hot
Posted 5 years agoA small update on my current happenings. Been bakin the last few days. Sweat attaching my skin to my clothes as it usually does in hot baking degrees of 90 something. Uisng fan to keep cool, though work has slowed down a bit until a thunderstorm or something cools the area down a bit. Still workin, but expect a slower response time.
In the mean time, stay cool indoors everyone.

Muscle Animation - Post-mortem
Posted 5 years agoHello everyone! It's been a while since I've done a serious journal regarding my happenings. I hope everyone is doing well despite the craziness of the quarantine.
This is a report of my experiences and trials of the animation YCH I've done last year. Specifically this one: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/31565743/
I currently have only a few people left to do on the animation list and it will be finished. However, I believe now would be a good time to talk about it. A few questions came to mind by me and other people as I was working on it. "Why is it taking so long?" Being the main question. There wasn't one main thing keeping me from finishing them all in a timely manner, just a lot of small things which combined to slow me down to where we are today. Honestly, if it weren't for the stimulus given out a month or so ago, I'd probably still be stuck halfway on the list. So let's step back for a moment and start from the beginning.
A year ago, I was having trouble financially. Technically, I still have them but it was more so in the past. YCHs I've been handing out were not pulling in the money needed and my regular commissioners were practically zero, likely cause I was pumping out YCHs so much. A paradox that I only recently have gotten myself out of. I can't remember how the idea came about, but one day, I decided to make a YCH using animations. The first few times I've done this was using only a few keyframes, which worked well by themselves. So, using that as a template, I decided to dust off my old Flash program to get back into animating, only for YCHs. I figured, "It shouldn't be that difficult, I just need to have the proper frames and add layers for extra stuff. Shouldn't be that hard."
And it was only a month or so after that I saw it was a lot harder than I realized and bit off more than I could chew. The reason for this was a few mistakes that could have easily been avoided the long process and delays that were caused by them.
The first one was how I made the template for the YCH. The first time I made it, it was only to get the visual out for the advertisement and wasn't structured for easy workflow. To put this into perspective, in order for me to properly edit the animations in the beginning, I was opening different windows in the program just to make sure I was adding the details properly. Something that should have taken a few minutes took hours. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th one that I had to stop working on the animations to redo the entire structure of the file to make for a better workflow, which took a few weeks. By then, the money I had gotten from the commissioners was used up to pay bills and buy the time needed to keep working. This leads up to the next part.
When I first priced the animation, I was overconfident and thought I would be able to clear out each animation a week at a time, no matter the stuff added in. I priced it as much as my regular art commission as a frame of reference, not thinking that I'm technically doing 11 pieces of said art in each animation even with the old shortcuts animators use to ease the workflow. So when I got the payment, I was easily able to do the first few animations without worry as it helped pay for the bills for this month and a little next month. Then as problems started cropping up, both in real life and in the program itself, I started to worry. However, I kept at it, fixed the issues that cropped up, and kept going. The next bill was coming up, so I started making more YCHs to help compensate and mitigate the time lost. It wasn't until a month or two after, when I was struggling with the 6th slot, that I realized the second issue: I was working a significant project set at a below-average compensation. Now, this might seem odd to say, given I was the one who made the prices in the first place, but it was more due to the lack of experience and I haven't done the math until months afterward. Think of it this way: I was paid, on average, 50 dollars per animation. The amount of work I put into each one is roughly around 10-12 hours, maybe less. So, for the sake of simplicity, let's say it's 10 hours. We divide 10 hours with the 50 dollars, and we get "5 dollars an hour" for each piece. However, there were times where I could complete a piece in less than 5 hours. Which changes the amount to "10 dollars per hour." Keep in mind, though, often those pieces were either flat colored or lines. This doesn't account for the ones who ask for shading. Which is also my fault for adding the workload myself, even more so when I didn't add a limit to the number of slots. I should have kept it at 5 or 6 to learn from the experience and adjust accordingly, but I foolishly left it open and let greed/pride overcome me at the time. I also couldn't ask for more money, as I have already set the price beforehand and felt the delays were ultimately my fault to begin with. So combine that, with the YCHs I had to keep making to pay the bills, the delays started piling in.
I had scheduled accordingly, instead of working on it 3 times a week, I had to work on them an hour per week due to the workload of the other YCHs. Only time I was free enough to get more time was when certain YCHs got unexpectedly popular. YCHs were structured in a way that, when I was finished with one phase, I had everyone on the slots ready for the next phase and the next until they were done by the 4th or 5th day. Thus allowing me to complete them and return to work on the animations. Which were few and far in-between. This doesn't account for the times that Flash, the older versions I have, crashes when ya try to feed it something it doesn't like. By regular estimations, I should have finished 6 months after I first made the YCH.
This, however, didn't work out as planned as I had Real Life issues that cropped up. These happen to be things that many have experienced in the past. This includes sickness, house repair, dealing with family affairs, general responsibilities, unexpected life events like a tree falling over in the yard and having to be cut down to prevent the city from finding you a thousand dollars, and so forth. There was also an issue where my paypal was hitting a negative balance due to a miscommunication with my roommate's grandfather, who had pulled money that was transferred from his account through my account cause of something that happened back in December and no one told him of it. The biggest one, I'm sure many of you know already, is the whole pandemic thing going on since January. Ever since it came into full effect in February, everyone got his by it in various different ways. It also hit me indirectly the first few months, with my slots filled for YCHs going from 2-3 to 0-1. Then again, that could have been from other factors but I don't have much to go on. The only good thing that came from the pandemic was the stimulus check. If it weren't for that, I would have done another Emergency level commissions just to stay afloat. Which would have meant more work and more delays for the animations. By then, I was already suffering from the dreaded "burnout". Something I recovered from last month after taking it slow the other months. It's also one of the reasons I've not done personal artwork for so long.
As I stated before to other commissioners, as long as I was paid, I would finish any works I was commissioned for. Might take longer than expected, but they always get finished in the end. I do apologize for times where it gets delayed, yet I will try to get them finished whenever possible. From this experience, I've learned a fair few things in regards to YCHs, animations, and work in general. I learned that trying to do something with skills you haven't used in years is often a bad idea when you're trying to use it for commercial purposes. I also learned that, when offering work, control the flow to prevent getting overwhelmed with both work and information.
I won't deny that I'm an experienced artist capable of good works, but in the end, I'm only human. I make mistakes and the best way to move forward is to acknowledge them and learn from them. Find ways to improve from these mistakes to be a better person. Bad things happen, this is something that I've learned will always be inevitable. How you deal with these bad things is what shapes people. I do like to do animations in the future, but I will need to rethink and remodel how I do them. I might do commissions of them, but they need to be done in a case-by-case basis for now.
And that's my post-mortem for the Muscle Animation. It was a crazy long YCH project, hopefully the next one would turn out better.

Artist's warning
Posted 5 years agoThis is something I rarely do, if at all. However, this is something that must be addressed to keep this from happening again. Recently, a few weeks ago, a commissioner [name redacted] reversed a transaction of a commission I've done for them in December.
This basically reversed the money out of my PayPal and add a reversal fee on top of it. Despite evidence and proof of the transaction, the dispute of it went to the buyer's favor. For some reason.

Suggestions for what's to come
Posted 5 years agoGreetings everyone,
This is a journal as an update to current happenings on my side as well as various updates. The good news is that I'm no longer having to worry about health after a few bouts of sickness. So there's that. I'm also getting back to finishing up the last of my list of commissions that' I've been putting off due to RL issues.
Now, this next part is a serious matter. While it's not necessarily bad news, it's something that needs some attention on my part. I haven't told many about this, but my main source of income had been drawing, made possible by you guys. It had been for the last 3 years when I finally moved out of my parent's home to live on my own. The income I used for important things like rent and bills. The amount I've gotten every month might not seem like much to the average person, might be below the minimum wage in most states, but every little bit helped me keep a roof over my head and keep bills off the table. You will not believe how grateful I am to everyone who always bought a commission or a slot for a YCH, a slot filled is a moment of relief that I receive knowing I have the minimal support needed to live beyond my family's household. This is why, when I see my YCH pictures have no responses for nearly a week or two, I feel as if I'm doing something wrong or if I am missing something. As an artist, I always try to find ways to improve myself, a good way of doing so is by asking people. One thing I've always neglected doing is asking people for help or advice. I admit it myself that I don't always do the right thing when approaching a problem. Sometimes it might take me longer than the average person to realize what the issue is without a different perspective on the matter. I try not to bring in the financial status of my life into these journals, I don't like worrying people. However, I feel this is something that needs to be addressed as it's also affecting my work and people have been asking what was going on.
Nevertheless, I'm going to keep moving forward. With the lack of slots being filled in the YCHs, I'd like to ask everyone for their suggestions and advice. What would you like to see more of? Less of? What do think needs improvement? What do you miss me doing that I don't do anymore? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.

Update status on me
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys! Mimic here.
Alright, so, outside of the comic I've posted and the occasional picture here and there, I've been rather quiet on the art front. The reason for this is due to the last week or so, I came down with the flu. One that thought it'd be funny to give me one symptom per day. Couple that with the hurt wrist I developed the month before, I took the hard decision to force myself off drawing seriously until my sickness was gone.
It wasn't easy, mind you. And not just because I couldn't breathe through my nose for a few days.
Today, I can confidently say my body is healed up enough that I can seriously get back to drawing. This means I can get back to finishing up the animations. I like to apologize to those who are waiting for them. I shall let you know once it is your turn.

Ideas for more YCH pictures
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys, Mimic here.
It's definitely been a crazy year so far. Though thanks to your continued support, I've made it this far! :)
I've been working different ways to do YCHs. You've noticed some of them, such as the animation YCHs. New territory to test out new ideas. However, it's always good to ask viewers what they'd like to see.
What do you guys wanna see more of in terms of YCHs? Let me know in the comments.

Delays
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys, wanted to let you guys know that I am chugging away at the commissions and pictures. Progress is going forward.
I've also been experiencing some wrist pain in the last few days, got myself a two-dollar wrist support to tide me over until I figure out if it's only a short term pain or something else. Least until I find a better grade wrist support. So there will be some slowdown due to this.

WolvenSaintUpdate on the Animations
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys!
The original intent for the animation was to have it done within the span of 3-5 days per person. At the moment, I am almost finished with the 3rd person. After doing this much, I found out that the method I'm currently using to animate is slow. Mainly, I'm having the frames in completely different timelines instead of having them in the same timeline. Thus, slowing everything down to a crawl as I try to jump from window to window making sure everything is matching up. Especially when working on the shadows and coloring.
So, after the third animation is complete, I'll need to do some tweaking with the animation so that they all fall under the same timeline. Which won't be too long of a process. This will also prevent program errors from popping up like entire lines disappearing or changing color.
Rest assured, I shall have these completed. At a minimum, I'll be working on one animation a week. So you can expect one every week, less there are ones with shading or complex colors.
Anywho, I just needed to let you all know what is happening. Been years since I worked on flash and these kinds of things happen when you try to get a program to run properly in this day and age.
This update is to let everyone know the schedule is for the animations as well as what I'm currently doing with them. The original intent for the animation was to have it done within the span of 3-5 days per person.
ANimation!
Posted 6 years agoHeya!
With that out of the way, onwards to the animated YCH commissions. The turnout for it is well beyond my projected expectations! Thanks, everyone! :)
Now for scheduling, I'll try to get at least one animation done a week. The reason it would take so long is due to current commissions on the lineup as well as keeping me from burning out. They'll be done according to the order given.
Be sure, I'll have them completed. May take some time, but it shall be done!
Before we start today's journal, here's the people left for the emergency commissions:

Reminder of commissions
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys!
Alrighty, time to update you guys on progress of the emergency commissions. Here the remaining number of people. I shall be doing them soon. :)
As a reminder, regular commissions have now been reduced to a more reasonable price. As long as I get at least 10 commissions before the end of each month, I should be alright to pay rent. If you guys can, let people know I'm available for commissions. I should be done with the emergency batch hopefully by Monday.
I've also been drawing a comic that, if I can get it done, will be sold for roughly 2-5 dollars. Haven't set up the number of pages but it should be around 15-20.
Question: What or who would you like to see drawn more of?

General news and Pricing update
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys!
I like to, once again, thank everyone who participated in the commissions last month. It helped greatly and paid my rent for the month! :)
I'm still working on the commission as per my schedule. So those of you waiting, I'm working as quickly as I can to reach you. I've already knocked out a number of pictures already, so it'll just take a little time.
Speaking of commissions, I have changed the prices. They'll come into effect as of this journal post. You can find them here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/28496894/
The changes are only for the standard commissions. The painted will stay the same as that requires significant time and effort to work with. Any thoughts on the new prices?

Relative News Update
Posted 6 years agoHello everyone!
I'd like to let everyone know what's been going on the number of days before as well as my plans going forward.
First of all, the emergency commissions has successfully helped me pay rent! Thanks to everyone who had sent me the payments, the rent was paid and I have a little extra left over to help with the next bill. The process was a little rocky but it worked out in the end! :)
For the emergency comms themselves, I had to organize them for easier access; least to the best of my abilities. It's been a while since I gotten such a large batch. Right now, almost everyone paid their commissions, for those who didn't, I'll confirm it with them to see what is their status. Right now I've sketched up almost everyone's commissions and will be sending the batches to everyone for corrections and changes.
For those who wish to know the schedule in which I shall do work, I shall paste it here.
======
=====
I hope to finish at least one commission per day, maybe even more. Depend on how things go on any particular day. I do plan to finish every commission, hopefully before the 12th. That way, I can get ready on normal commissioning.
Speaking of which, the last week or so, I've come to terms about my prices for commissions. It started around 6 months ago or more, at least when I considered doing serious YCH stuff. People enjoyed it and it was helping me pay the bills at a reasonable price. However, almost no one wanted to get my regular commissions. I couldn't figure out why. However, instead of investigating the problem, I just stuck to YCHs because they were pulling in the most revenue. I couldn't be picky about it as I didn't have the financial safety net of a steady job. (A story for another time.) I didn't start worrying at first, as long as I get at least a YCH per week, I'd gain 2-3 people interested in a set of slots; thus, I'd fulfill my quota for my bills. It wasn't until the rapid decline people and the various happenings in real life in the last few months made me realize that the YCHs were just a bandage to the underlining problem.
The issue was the pricing compared to the quality as well as the lack of experience. When I made the price chart for my commissions, I based it off of other artists that have a similar style or quality as mine. I figured that would be the standard and the most reasonable amount. Yet when the months roll by and very few willing to bite for it, I realize the mistake I made only just a week ago. The prices I used as a base were from artists with similar styles, but all of them had a much larger fanbase. Not just the number of people they had, but the experience they had with drawings as well. You could tell their drawings had more lift and life. Hell, they could update more frequently than I could.
Long story short, I realized my art doesn't match with the prices and I'm going to reduce my prices of commissions going forward. At least until I can get better at drawing. They won't be half the amount like I did with the emergency commissions, but it'll definitely be lower than it is now. I'll have it updated sometime this week. I'll continue working on the commissions as needed. I'll keep everyone updated when I can.

Saturday - Free day
Commissions: These will be when I work on the emergency commissions. I'll try to do them within the order I receive them. The process, for those new to how I make the commissions, is simple: Sketch, Ink, Flat color, and shade. Once I finish the sketching phase, I send it to the commissioner for approval and to
make any major changes required or add notes on what needs to be added. Once approved, it goes to the ink phase. Once inked, it'll be showed for approval. Once approved, it'll be colored. This process repeats until the pictures are complete.
YCH/painted/normal commissions - These are commissions that I had done before the emergency commissions. I'll be doing these separately to keep things organized.
Free day - Allows me to take a break and prevent burnout. A burnt out artist can't draw, after all. :)=====

Emergency Commissions: Update
Posted 6 years agoHeya guys!
I gotta say, wow! I didn't expect such a massive turn out rate in the last few days! After posting the journal ( http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9057345/ ), a few of my friends helped me by broadcasting said journal through their journals. You guys heard and helped me out in a big way!
Took me the last few days to sort out all the notes and calculate all the payments needed for each commissions. While they are still coming in, I plan to send the first batch of invoices out on Monday. Already I'm hitting the target amount needed for rent. Any extra money shall be used to pay future billings I have. The offer will still be open until the end of the month. After that, I can start the schedule.
The schedule will start on the first of march and would be fairly simple.
First, I'll start sketching everything at once for a few days. In theory, it shouldn't take too long to get everything down.

Once all the sketches finish, the general scheduling will be like this:
Sunday - Free day
Monday - Commissions
Tuesday - Commissions
Wednesday - YCH/painted commissions/normal commissions
Thursday - Commissions

Emergency Commissions: 50% off!
Posted 6 years agoOkay, this is a rare situation. However, this is one I feel is necessary.
Earlier in the month, I've moved to a new home with my roommate. It started rough, but we managed to pull through. I managed to keep my expenses down to a minimum and I have already paid all the needed bills halfway in the month. Slowly I've been building my momentum back up and have started doing pictures at a much faster rate thanks to having a quieter place. :)
The problem, currently, is that my first month's rent is due. Normally, I pull through with a few YCHs to cover expenses; even supplement with a little of my savings if things are slow. Due to the move as well as a slower turnout, I'm short and running out of time, I need to be sure I get enough before it becomes too late.
Thus, before the end of the month, I'll be slashing down my prices for my standard commissions to 50% off.
Rules are the same as regular commissions.
1) Send ref and pose via note
2) Payment is in advance
3) Standard restrictions apply
4) Add paypal address so I can send invoice.
I will try my best to finish them as quickly as possible, within the order I get them. May take some time, but they will all be done.
