Sleeping
Posted 13 years agoI'm passed out for the evening
Paypal Update: No compromise, I have to attach a credit card to the account (contrary to what I was told earlier in the week c.c), which has been taken care of. However I missed the 10am cut off for getting anything started today. So the order is delayed until Monday.
Good news: Because I had the Paypal supervisor pull up the call where I wasn't told I'd have to add and confirm both a bank account and credit card, he is now personally baby sitting the situation. I also can't foresee many more complications from Paypal after this (as I made a point of recording myself and the supervisor listening to the call)
Crazy News: I 'm going to be doing sketch streams all weekend long to drum up what money I can (on the same pay when it's done) to bolster my paypal account to flesh out this tower.
Donations are also greatly appreciated.
If you're one of the people who bought in, you are more than welcome to wander in to the stream or chat me up and we can play with ideas for your digital badges.
In regards to the raffle: Once that computer is ordered, I'm running the number to figure out who the lucky winner is.
After taking 4 hours to get my computer to boot properly earlier in the evening, I drank a little too much caffeine.
Art time!

I might try tackling commission work. I might just draw for myself.
Update on the Paypal Situation:
I went to my credit union yesterday and opened up an entirely new savings account under a different umbrella so I don't have to worry about them pulling money from just any account.
Waiting to attach that to my paypal account. I'm gonna have to order from a Canadian site (it's looking like newegg.ca ) as this avoids the withdrawal fees and the wait. Had to scale back. But this should get me up and running a good week or more sooner (so long as my understanding of everything is correct)
I might be doing some small sketches for cash today and over the next few days. Things I can squeak out quickly that I won't get angry over if my computer BSODs and eats them.
Stuff like these:

Paypal is a giant bag of knobs
Posted 13 years agoSo at no single point during this flurry of taking money, did paypal stop to say 'whoa whoa whoa, this is strange' you need to sort shit out with us before you can continue doing business.
It was when I went to make the purchase using the available balance that paypal flipped it's shit and limited my account. The kicker of a limited account is, I can't refund anyone. Paypal now has us all by the balls :|
Going to try and get this sorted out.

Computer Fixing
Posted 13 years agoHoly sweet sticky slave labour balls.
You people are amazing! asdasfsadsad I really didn't think this would work and that I'd be stuck trying to make do going to the library until I got a job on the side to supplement my income to build a new computer.
This was a learning experience. I sold more slots than I expected, because I didn't realize or clarify that some sorts of paypal payments would take time to clear. Not that many more though, I'm sitting at 35 spots sold, everything should be wrapped up within two months at the latest. (I'm saying two months just on the assumption that something with the order for the new computer might go wrong)
What's happening now?
I'm sorting out the last of the payment details and the like, I am more than likely going to be able to order my computer tonight with a few extras (like it's own DVD drive so I'm not relying on salvaging the DVD drive out of my own tower, which knowing my luck would explode and unleash a horde of leprechauns in my house.)
I am also sorting out the raffle.
If you bought art from me, you've got a spot.
If you donated any money, you've got a spot.
If you helped spread the word, you've got a spot. I need some sort of proof of this though, a link to your FA journal or tweet.
I will be sorting the names out into a randomized list after I'm sure I've got everyone down, then I'll use the fantabulous rng.com website to pick the list as you'll all have numbers.
How I'm going to be tackling my workload.
As is I've got more than enough confirmed details on hand to plan out at least 2-3 weeks worth of work. Until I get my new tower though I can't make any promises of productivity on the actual main images.
However, this is one of the big reasons I included the digital badge, they're small enough that if my computer crashes and corrupts the .sai file I won't be out much work.
If you've ordered multiple spots from me and you haven't put them together into single projects as multiple characters, I am technically going to break up your order across multiple weeks. This is to avoid fatigue for myself, if I can get your 2-3 pieces done in the day we set aside for livestream, I will. My focus is on quality over quantity though.
I also would like to move through the list at a steady pace and produce some variety.
I am going to be putting together a schedule and noting everyone with which week their spots are in. If you're curious as to how I've determined the scheduling, please talk to me in private over notes and I'll explain my reasons.
I think that's everything for now, but I'll likely be updating this. @.@
Hory Shet you people are awesome.

Sunday Update On The Commissions
Posted 13 years agoIn Regards to this Journal -> http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3408615/ <- Comment here if you want a spot
Okay, so my computer is now just randomly blue screening right about whenever it feels like. (Most recent was when I was just chatting on trillian and surfing about on Chrome)
I've got a few more spots left to fill, and I'm following up collecting payments. This is a cash up front comission drive. Once my computer dies I can pop over to the local library for an hour a day to sort out communication, but I can't get any art worked on what so ever.
If you've taken a spot and you can't pay within the next few days, please excuse yourself. I will be more than happy to take your business in the future, but I unfortunately am dancing on razor blades and eggshells right now. So I need the money immediately.
If you've taken a spot and you can pay, please check your notes, or note me directly with your paypal email and commission details so I can send you an invoice to pay.
If you're interested in the last few spots, I'm working dirt cheap here ($30 for a digital 1 character lined/coloured piece) and throwing in a few bonus incentives (digital badge and entry into the art raffle for a 2 character coloured piece)
If you would like to help but for some reason are not interested or capable of buying in, make an FA journal, twitter to your followers, spread the word (and note me a link to this) and you get a spot in the raffle for that 2 character coloured piece.
Thanks for your time folks.

Posted 13 years agoWall of text, jump to the bottom for a proper TL;DR
Okay, so the tl;dr is my computer is dying. When my tower dies I am SOL. I doubt it's going to last long enough or remain stable enough for me to get much in the way of art done.
This means if I want to earn money I'm going to have to take a big old batch of commissions, cash up front (which I really dislike doing.)
If you'd like to donate, that has to be like eight different kinds of awesome. Note me and we'll sort that out.
So, the important details:
There are a total of 30 spots, at $30 each which gets you something like this :
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7788096/
Each spot is limited to one character (Lines/Colour/Shading) with a simple background if you want.
Post in the journal comments with how many spots you want. No limit on the number of spots you can grab for yourself.
Down the road I'm looking at charging $45+ for similar work, because I'm fussy and I put a lot of time and love into the art.
But wait! There's more![i] The sooner I have the money in hand and the new computer ordered, the happier I am. So here are additional perks:
I will sit down and set aside time on livestream to sketch out and prepare your image live for you, dedicating an entire day to each spot. If I don't finish it that day, I will keep you in the loop. I don't have many customers, but I'll ask them to testify on my journal about how fussy I am when it comes to details and making people happy.
Anyone who buys a spot or donates, I'll also be doing little 250x500 badge/card things, something like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7872607/
One or two characters, no complicated porn. It doesn't have to be a setup like that, it could just as easily be set up as a badge. My way of saying thanks and sweetening the pot.
I will be holding a raffle, drawing from the names consisting of everyone who participates. So if you buy art, donate or help by pimping this journal, your name goes into the bucket.
If you're spreading the word, send me a note with the subject 'Raffle Entry' and include a link to my journal. You only need to sum things up (coloured art for $30 a character).
The prize? Two character, fancy and fussed over commission with Hanekeda (Or it can be someone else. Your call)

Posted 13 years agoI knew this was going to happen sooner or later.
Just far sooner than I expected.
Dying motherboard is causing BSODs.
Looks like I'm going for a $300-$400 prebuilt tower to use as a work machine.

Business Plan
Posted 13 years agoSo most people who are familiar with my situation know that it's a complicated song and dance. I came up with what I felt was a pretty clever and sound plan today, and pitched it around. I got shot down at every turn for reasons that were bullshit.
The thanks I get working three years for free.
So, what I'm looking for is help putting together a business plan of sorts. I want to give the whole freelance illustrator thing a shot while I've still got something of a safety net (the juiciest, but one of the few perks of my current situation).
If you're experienced or familiar with putting together small business proposals for a new business/entrepreneurial endeavor (in Canada/Ontario specifically) I could use your help if you're willing to volunteer some time talking.
This isn't a large project, I know Ontario has all sorts of programs and grants for people who want to go into business for themselves. The bare bones of what I need to actually make art start going smoothly is $5,000 for equipment and supplies.
However I'm imagining that bare bones planning is hall mark of guaranteed failure when putting these things together, and that's where I need help, ferreting out the other odds and ends of starting a business and putting together a proposal to try and get myself some loans/grants.
Thanks for reading folks.

Shock and Awesome: Week 1 - Clothes
Posted 13 years agoFirst off, if you're interested, and you can pay through paypal when I finish your art, grab a spot.
Spots Available: 6 - First Come First Served in the comments
Theme of the Weekend:
Clothed - I just want to work on putting bodies in clothing.
Requirements (ie what you need to bring):
- An idea
- Character reference (unless you just want or can work with something generic like a species)
- Preferably visual reference for the clothing in question (not required) but appreciated.
Prices:
Line Art $10 - Coloured is +$5 Sample: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7731169/
These are all for single character, simple setups. No complex backgrounds, no complex props
I will be livestreaming these, adult themes are fine, clean work is also appreciated. I will message you through whatever channel works best at the time for your paypal information so I can send you an invoice.
That's it and happy grabbing.

Posted 13 years agoOkay, starting off with the first thing is what I'm sure the most of you are most interested in: Discount Commissions
I'm calling these Shock and Awesome weekends (don't ask, it amuses me)
The What: Two or more weekends a month, I'm going to host weekends from Friday to Sunday where I stream myself working on stuff I normally don't do. Each weekend will have a theme.
The How: Monday/Tuesday of the week I'll announce the theme or the method of picking a theme (voting is the most likely, although I'm sure there are other ways to do this)
Thursday 10pm EST or so I'll make a journal, this is where I announce how many slots are available. One per person, first come, first served.
Payment is through paypal upon completion, I'll issue you an invoice. Don't participate unless you can pay when yours is done.
The When (for the First): This Thursday, April 19th 10pm EST, I'll post the journal that you can claim a spot in.
Particulars: 6 spots, $10 for line art, $15 for simple colours. The theme is Clothed.
These prices aren't fixed, and in fact they're probably going to go up. Not so much to be 'full price' since I'm dabbling in new areas for myself, but the first weekend or few are definitely going to be teaser rates.
If you can think of anything that should be covered or you'd like answered, let me know in the comments.
The other stuff. I'm horrible at self direction. What kind of stuff do you guys want to see me do with my characters and my art in my own time? Obviously most of you want to see fap material, but what sort? Is there interest in non fap and more comic bookish technical/fantasy material?

SAI Questions
Posted 13 years agoI have a bunch of questions about SAI that seem obscure and I probably am just lacking in google-fu
Short cut questions:
1) Does anyone know what letter the Hand function is mapped to? Is it even mapped to a shortcut key by default? (same way the color picker is alt)
2) Is there a way to toggle a layer's preserve opacity setting through a key shortcut?
Technical Question:
So it seems on one particular project I was not actually saving a .sai file. Just a png (thankfully in full resolution). However I've lost all of my layer work that had the body broken up into seperate chunks.
I know I can't recover the layers, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the neutral tan color I use transparent so that I wouldn't have to retrace all of the line art.
Picture in question if having the file itself will help: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20064488/ArtBoner.png

SAI Colouring Tutorials
Posted 13 years agoDoes anyone know of any good ones? I am apparently retarded with this program for anything beyond moderate cel shading. :\ I really would like to do more complex stuff with this program since I can't use photoshop until I replace (or yes, fix even though that's throwing money into the hole) my computer.
And meh
