Breaking For the Afternoon
Posted 13 years agoStream's Here: http://www.livestream.com/stroppierscribbles
Commissions are closed as there's a 5 long waiting list now. I'll let you guys know when I'm taking more.
Giving my brain a break and I'll be going back to it later on tonight. I'm going to start moving down the line instead of just camping this one commission until completion.
Done for now. @.@

Polling Station
Posted 13 years agoOkay, so as it stands, there's no real non spammy way to advertise streaming and stuff on FA.
A lot of people don't use twitter.
But practically everyone has some sort of IM.
The big ones I can think of are:
-Yahoo!
-AIM
-MSN
-Skype.
So what I'm thinking about doing is making a bunch of accounts and using a multi client program like Digsby to set global statuses. People would just have to add those accounts and check their status.
Thoughts? Any other IMs I forgot about?

[s]Saturday Stream Time[/s] On Hold
Posted 13 years agoCurrently on hold. Off getting chinese food. I'll be back at it later tonight though!
The What: I'm drawing in live stream, and taking commissions one at a time. $10 for lines and simple colours.
Mind you my price is probably going to increase to $20 in the very near future after I get this sorted out because I am fussing around with these images for a good while to get them looking nice as far as my standards go. You've been notified. :u
Samples: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7731169/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7727102/
The Where: http://www.livestream.com/stroppierscribbles
Chat room rules: No Bashing, Arguing or cub/toilet/extreme stuff. If I tell you to play nice, you will play nice.
How payment is handled: I send you an invoice over paypal, so if I pick you, have your internet wallet sorted out. I generally take payment after I'm satisfied with the image. Yes I know this can be abused. But hey, if someone wants to rip me off for one image, I'm perfectly fine with that, I just won't do business with them.
Uh, that's about all I can think of at the moment.

Turned off
Posted 13 years agoThe what: I'm just futzing about to kill time today. I'm also looking to take a few sketch commissions, $10 per character for lineart and simple flats. You need paypal and funds available.
I'll be doing it a little differently. I 'll pick someone (or take the first straggler to get the first spot) rough something out, get approval and then send an invoice over paypal for you to pay.
If you're interested try to have something in mind and referrences of some sort available.

Oh Microsoft
Posted 13 years agoYou are a dirty dirty whore. When I turn features and services off, I expect them to remain off. When Windows Defender is disabled (because I a) trust myself not to download stupid stuff b) have everything remotely backed up and c) am familiar with correcting malware infections) I expect your msmpeng.exe service to remain off as well.
I found out where all of my CPU was going though :D That little gem would spike to 90% CPU usage whenever I load up screencamera to stream my desktop.
Just dredging my computer with all sorts of scanning programs at the moment to make sure that the process I nuked wasn't cleverly disguised malware. :i

More brain scumbaggery
Posted 13 years agoTonight, my brain won't stop thinking about relationships. A warm body to curl up in bed with. Different ideas, all sorts of conversations. Arguements, celebrations.
And then it becomes a battle of wills, logic and reason as the tag team against emotion and desire. I'm terrible at relationships, I just drift and all the feelings are there, but the mood turns chill and that's not really fair to a partner.
So it looks like I'm going to spend the next few days reminding myself how I butcher interpersonal relationships. \o/

HR wonders why people lie...
Posted 13 years agoSo I'm back to square one when it comes to job hunting.
The career job I was jockeying for opted to hire someone who was driving two hours north of where the job was actually situated because the email HR sent out with interview details was wrong.
I was the only person who noticed this and if I hadn't called them first thing in the morning, everyone else they were interviewing would have gone to the wrong location.
Shot in the foot by altruism.
Also, it's apparently completely appropriate to notify people at 5pm on a Saturday about your decision to let them know they're not getting hired. (Yes, I realize a lot of places straight up won't tell you. But how terrible and backlogged are you in your job that you're sending these notices out on a Saturday?)

Prometheus trailers
Posted 13 years agoaka, Ridley Scott, how did you or anyone with a brain sign off on this?
If you are looking forward to Prometheus (the Ridley Scott directed prequel to the first Alien movie) or are just in general a fan of the Aliens/xenomorph/predators science fiction setting, do not watch the trailers. Avoid them.
The latest one gives away the big reveal. As in it answers a lot of -BIG- questions about origins, purposes, intents in what is no doubt going to be the official, undisputed canon fashion. It doesn't take a genius to string together the clips if you're at all familiar with the Aliens movies.
In under three minutes I had years of questions answered and all the buzz for this movie wrecked. Because some no brain twat didn't stop to think that interested fans would be able to extrapolate the big reveal of the movie from a three second movie snippet.
I am still going to give people money to see this movie on the big screen, but I'm going in, knowing that I';m just paying for a glorified, extended version of the most recent trailer.

Posted 13 years agoWhile I haven't forgotten obligations, aspirations and commitments, I have let life get the best of me once again.
So, in short: I've recently applied and hope to get into a fairly awesome illustration program at a college I've had my eyes on since I was a dewey eyed teenager.
My finances still suck. I'm probably going to just give up and join the army if this college thing doesn't work out. Rah rah rah.
I have two immediate, short term goals that I'm going to try to solve. (This is spurred on by the fact that I managed to build myself a new work table on a budget of $30) Unfortunately these two items are things I can't build on my own, sadface.
- New LCD Monitor
- New Scanner ( That's not a shitty HP photo scanner. Never again HP, screw you and your shitty things. Canon, I'm sorry, take me back please ;-; )
If anyone in the Toronto-Niagara region has either of these items second hand in good condition (LCD monitor, pref widescreen in the 19"-22" range and/or a Canon LiDE style scanner) that you'd be willing to sell/barter/trade, please get in contact with me. xD
My thoughts are pretty much use my HP scanner and do some pencil/ink stuff for cheap. However to avoid my typical problems, I wouldn't be taking payment until the work was done. Not going there quite yet unless I have trouble selling off some of the last few valuables I have that are worth anything. (Anyone in the Toronto/Niagara area interested in an unused Canon 75-300mm Lens? More details/price negotiable. I don't use it.)
Other thoughts!
I'm terrible at chasing down different types of music. So I'm thinking of maybe doing some kind of game. I'd post a few tracks of what I'm listening to at themoment and that I'd like to hear more of or similar to. And whoever can put together a few tracks of stuff that I find engaging/new would get a sketch... Thoughts?
I had more to write.
It's more personal rambling really. I've always had this big disconnect between my characters and my personality. It makes them quite unplayable or engaging for myself personally outside of very specific context/settings. I'm considering just taking a page out of Deadpool's book and letting characters interact with the 4th wall and go meta. I don't know where this thought process was going.
So in summary: Feeling guilty, but motivated. I just have a few small obstacles that I need to clear.

Apparently..
Posted 14 years agoI'm a troll.
According to my Grandmother after I sat her down with her favorite bible and showed her the wonderful passages about women being inferior and how pretty much everything we use in modern day is forbidden.
I'm still not readily available on a regular basis despite the fact my computer likes to wake itself from sleep mode like some kind of zombie (stealthy stealthy malware maybe? I don't know.)
I owe people refunds for art that's long over due whether it's been request or not. I will strive to deliver something resembling furry porn hand in hand with refunds + 10% basic interest/year owed. The fact that it's measured in years for a very few people makes me feel atrocious which feeds the cycle of hating myself and not being able to get art done. But yes, there will be interest paid on the money you gave me in good faith should I not feel comfortable of capable delivering art as well.
Why haven't I gotten refunds done sooner? For the past 30 months or so I've been surviving on less than $750 a month. $600 straight off the bat goes to rent/utilities. Since September of 2010 it's a good month where I've got $40 to myself for small indulgences like real orange juice or not powdered milk.
Why am I still reluctant to chat on IM? Because I turn into a complete asshole when I'm under stress and depressed.

Lights on, but no one's home.
Posted 15 years agoTo everyone that's been trying to IM me over the past few weeks;
There's been a fairly serious emergency in my family and it requires my attention elsewhere for the better part of 8-10 hours a day. My IMs are left on because it's how I'm coordinating with my siblings.
Some of you have left some pretty vicious comments because I didn't respond to you immediately. You've been blocked.
Ideally there will be a new journal when I'm not spending ten hours a day watching over a family member.

Isolation Sickness
Posted 15 years agoI might be an introvert, but I loathe being distanced from friends and people in general.

Outrage, Slander, Political Conspiracy!
Posted 15 years agoNone of that here. Got the last interview done this morning.
After spending the afternoon weighing out my experience with the last two people, I came to what I felt was the 'right' decision for myself.
I'll be working with
Echoen however don't go harassing the bat with questions or pestering just yet. We're still getting things sorted, and ideally by the end of November, I should be up to date and where I want to be with this partnership.
To the future and many industrial pallets of soon to be used condoms! |D
I'd just like to say again, thank you to everyone that submitted and offered me their patience and time. It was a learning experience and hopefully this partnership produces results above and beyond what I've been able to eke out of myself over the past few years.

Black Flops
Posted 15 years agoSo I'm still waiting to nail someone for an interview before making a final decision. The list is even narrower, so far everyone has been good sports.
But onto something a little more interesting. I got my grubby hands on CoD Black Ops because my older brother is a huge fan of the games (and we have nothing in common on our Steam lists since he has MW2 on PS3)
So if you want to run around and kill some zombies, hit me up on Steam, current screen name is Topaz, username is misfitscribbles

Holy notes of fire
Posted 15 years agoWell, all told, almost 40 people sent notes my way about the job opening thing.
To everyone that submitted an application, I appreciate your time, quite a few of you took it upon yourselves to contact me on instant messengers. The cold shoulder was a necessity since I'm trying to give everyone a fair chance here. I had some of you pestering me within hours of the first journal going up.
Out of the 37 people, I've settled on six on a loose set of rules to whittle down the numbers. Failure to follow instructions, read the journal in it's entirety, and (I apologize if English is not your first language) poor grammar/spelling were the main reasons I culled nine tenths of the applicants out right off the bat.
This part is crucial; If I contact YOU for an interview you are one of those six people.
Based on how a roughly 2 hour interview process goes with these half dozen people, ideally I'll have someone picked. If I feel the need for a second round of interviews (hopefully shorter) anyone who did not make it to the second round will be notified directly.
Again thank you for the startling turn out C:

Job Opening; Harass me and get free art.
Posted 15 years agoMake sure you read this http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1829828/
TL;DR Looking for someone to more or less act as a supervisor of sorts since I get bored, distracted, and particularly frustrated trying to balance commission negotiation/payment arrangements and artwork at the same time.
Taking applications via FA notes until Friday midnight. Then I'll be doing interviews via aim/yahoo, however I can get a hold of the interesting applicants.
Remember, I need your name/gender/timezone since I do have a particular personality type that I'm looking for.
Even if you don't feel you'd be a good fit, if you could spread this around, I would really appreciate it. Who knows, if a friend of yours gets the position, they could get you drawn as part of their pay :D

Job Opening: Administrative Assistant / Talent Manager?
Posted 15 years agoI suck at dealing with people, schedules and in general managing myself. I'm great at managing others, horrible at managing myself. So in the interest of getting more stuff done, I'm offering free art up in exchange for someone to stay on my heels about being productive!
Consider this a hobby with benefits or a part time job where you get paid in art.
Title: Misfit Scribbles' Admin Fiend (You can change this if you want)
Pay: Art, ideally something once every week or two + sketches and random stuff.
Duties:
Acting as a middle man(person?) between myself and people who want to give me money for art. I'm horrible at this.
Receiving commission requests/inquiries
Providing regular updates (if there's a backlog and pending commissions to be completed)
Checking up on my work progress on a daily basis (4-5 days out of 7 preferred)
Really that's all I can think of, but I'm sure there's more.
As someone interested in this position you are:
Patient and reliable, interested in seeing projects finished on time with the discipline to remain motivated and on task. You strive to see the talent you manage ( that's me :D ) complete tasks in new, inventive and progressively better ways. You understand real life circumstances, but adhere to deadlines. You're able to engage in constructive discussion and identify flaws in the work process that can be improved upon. You are mature and capable of maintaining confidence in regards to private information.
Ideally you are +/- 4-5 hours of the EST time zone and understand that your compensation will not be immediate but will be commensurate.
-
Hrm... So awkward, but I need someone who wouldn't mind socializing more or less for an hour and some on a regular daily basis to keep me on task. Send a note to this FA account explaining why you think you'd be a good fit. This is a team effort, if you slack off, I'm most likely going to fuck off, play games and no art gets done!
Please include your age/gender/timezone with your application.

Tablet PC Hate
Posted 15 years agoSo I've got this Toshiba Portege M780 Laptop. It's more or less New Out of Box and about 6 weeks old.
Link for full details here: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/c.....affixedcode=WW
tl;dr
Intel Core I5-520m
4gb RAM
128gb SSD
12.1" Screen
Wacom Digitizer technology
Retail Price: $2400 CAD before tax or shipping.
What's the point of this journal? Well this tablet PC was a replacement for my old Toshiba tablet PC. Works great, but I loathe the experience.
I'm considering selling it for a not so massive loss, or trading it for a Wacom Cintiq 12wx (though if you have connections and can get a 21UX on my doorstep the tablet PC is yours)
So yeah, just putting feelers out. Great hardware, it's just not me though :<
