Feel the Force! Color Jedi/Sith Commission Sale! 5 Slots!
Posted 16 years agoMAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
Come on, admit it, you like Star Wars. Actually, no, you LOVE Star Wars! And you’ve always thought it would be so freakin’ cool to have a lightsaber or be able to do sweet Jedi tricks like telekinesis and stuff. You can’t fool me, I know you’ve imagined it!
And, while I can’t hand you a lightsaber, or make you one with the Force, I can do something almost as cool: I can make your character a Jedi! Or a Sith, if you’re feeling particularly evil, today.
Trying out a new style I feel I’ve just recently perfected, these will be in a high-end, animated style, with detailed backgrounds, but intricately cel-shaded characters. Not only can you be a Jedi or Sith, you can look like you’re in your own animated movie while you’re at it! So, if you’d like to use the Force, either light side or dark side, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! Full color, detailed background and cel-shaded characters, for the sale price of only $45 USD, but I’m only opening five slots for this sale.
I have to admit, I love Star Wars, so this is something I can really get excited about, and I promise to make sure my excitement really fuels some awesome pieces!
I’m opening the queue now, but please bear in mind that I’m still finishing the last of the Barbaric! sketch commissions I took, so I’ll have to finish those before I start on this new queue.
EXAMPLE OF THE STYLE THESE WILL BE IN
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2717545
Now for THE RULES:
* One character per order, please, at this time.
* Please no dragons. I really, really suck at dragons, seriously.
* Please no herms. They creep me out.
* Sorry, folks, nothing beyond PG-13, please
* Payment by PayPal ONLY, and in US funds.
What you get:
*As these are going to be purely digital, you will get both the high-res original file, as well as a low-res, web-friendly image file of your piece.
*YOU, as a Jedi Knight, or a Sith Lord, your choice!
If you are interested, please send a NOTE to
mongooseink containing the details of your request, as well as any links to reference images that would be helpful, or at least a detailed description of your character.

Attention! Mongoose Ink. migration begins! Also, Inklings!
Posted 16 years agoOkay, so, yes, I’m more than a tad behind on my original plan, but, I get behind sometimes, as many of you know. However, enough is enough, and it’s time for me to get the ball rolling!
Over the next couple of weeks I will be slowly, but permanently migrating my artwork from
mitchdlg and my other account,
madmarten to their new and final home,
mongooseink
For everyone who has watched me, and enjoyed my art over the years, I want to extend a huge thank you and giant hug. Your support has made this possible, and it’s because of you guys that I keep it up. But, if you’d like to see more – and haven’t done so already – please move your +Watches to my new finished art account
mongooseink as that is where ALL of my finished art will be from now on, including new artwork once I finish the last of the pieces I owe – which should be pretty soon here.
Mongoose Ink., for those of you who do not know yet, is the name of my publishing company, and will be the overarching business name for all of my projects. My N’duk the Hunter book series, the planned N’duk comic and my MAD Marten project “Blind Eye” will all be under the Mongoose Ink. Umbrella, and even at conventions, my table will now be labeled Mongoose Ink. Don’t be afraid, though the name has changed, my jokes and puns are the same old, tired and sad ones you already know.
But, in addition to this exodus to
mongooseink, you might notice that none of the sketches in any of my Scraps folders are moving there. That is not an accident, it’s because nobody remembers that the Scraps folder is even there, it seems. So, because I know a lot of folks (including myself) love to see sketches and concept work, I have decided to go ahead and make a spin-off account just for sketches and concept work, and you may find them at
mongooseinklings Note that no finished work will be posted there, but if I do finish a piece at my Inklings side, I’ll post a link to the finished piece in the standard Mongoose Ink. gallery.
Again, thank you everyone for putting up with my tardiness on this transition. That pesky “real life” thing kinda got in the way, but with my creative batteries recharged and summer upon us, I have a good feeling about what is to come!

***Attention all watchers!*** Mongoose Ink.!
Posted 17 years agoAfter a long, fun run just going under my own name here on FA, I have decided it was time for me to re-brand myself and bring all my various projects and works together under one, unified name.
From now on, all artwork by
mitchdlg Mitch de la Guardia, and
madmarten the MAD Marten will be appearing at
mongooseink, and for the next few months will also be cross-posted to their regular galleries. Also, additional art, writing and editing will be provided by Martin Frakes and Alan Foster, who are both coincidentally myself.
Mongoose Ink is also proud to be the new, official news and update page for Mitch de la Guardia's N'duk the Hunter book series, and will soon be premiering the all-new N'duk the Hunter comic, too. In addition, "Blind Eye," a project I have in the works featuring the MAD Marten and his cast will also be appearing at
mongooseink, once I get a chance to get it all underway.
In addition, for future furry cons and gatherings, my table and trade name will be listed as "Mongoose Ink." because I feel it pulls all my varied works together in a cohesive, happy way, and I can stop feeling so schizophrenic at my table! Yes, I'll still respond to Mitch, as it is my name, but no, I won't take offense if you call me Mongoose Ink, Inky, 'Goose, or Mr. Awesomepants.
I know this is bound to cause confusion for some time as not everyone is going to read this journal and folks will be wondering who Mongoose Ink. is, and why they think someone else is posting my art. So, for the next few months, all three of my galleries will be up and running, and heavily labeled as to the transition to the unified name of Mongoose Ink. If you liked either of my galleries, please feel free to switch your +Watch's to
mongooseink instead, as it will be my primary FA presence shortly.
Thank you everyone for your understanding, and to all of you, I bid you a warm welcome to Mongoose Ink.! And to everyone I owe commissions to, they should all be done and in the mail by no later than Monday. Yes, every one of them.

Well, as it stands I am currently at my home, but ready to throw things in the truck and leave if I have to.
balto and I are both safe here in the house that we split, and for the past few days we've been hosting
quickxyk, who has just left as he is finally able to go back home.
madmarten is still here with us, and will be until his evacuation notice is lifted. We're doing well, and making due. I don't think I've watched this many hours of the news since 9/11, but so far we seem to be safe.
Wanted to let you all know that we're safe, at least for now. I'll try and update again when this is all over. Sadly, fire stress isn't a very good atmosphere for art, but I might be able to turn something out, still. Trying.

New Avatar, Califur and N'duk vol. III
Posted 18 years agoHey, everybody, I've finally chosen to update my avatar, and what better to use than my MDLG signature block and an incredibly accurate (or not) self-portrait! Hope you all like it, I've enjoyed having Chairman Kaga dine on The Cheat for a few years now, but it really was time for a change to a way to mark my site and work as truly my own.
N'duk the Hunter volume III WILL be at Califur, should everything go right with the printers and shipping. Cut it close but it should make it in time.
As far as new art goes, you should see a few new pieces from me, and several originals I'll be putting up in the art show, as well as a few extremely limited oversized matted and framed prints of some of my new favorites. And, of course the commission and badge-o-rama will ensue. I'll be joining balto balto at his Acorn Productions table, (Check it out! The man does comic books, yo!) so stop by and say hi, chat about characters, buy stuff or just... whatever. Got a great new expansion in my lineup of markers and colored pencils, and I'm ready and rarin' to use 'em!
To those of you not attending Califur, well, um... Heh, let me think here... Ah, got it! After the con, for the first time in AGES my commissions list will open to the public again! Yes, that's right folks, for the first time in almost ever you'll be able to commission me outside a convention! (With the exception of dragons. Good golly on a broomstick, I fail fail fail at dragons. My deepest apologies to you know who you are.) Suppose I'll figure out my prices after the con, though. Too much to do FOR Califur right now!
Volumes I through III of my N'duk the Hunter books will also be finally available to order after the con, too, presuming I don't sell out AGAIN! Though from here on out I'll be trying to keep enough books in stock, available to ship whenever I get an order (sometimes with free random bonus extras! Woo!)
To the few of you I owe things to, they're either on their way or will be shortly, unless I've already arranged to get it to you at Califur, that is.
Anyhoo, back to work with me! *turns on some Josh Groban, Jamie Cullum, Trade Bundy and Henry Mancini* Ahh, music to art by...

The Birthday Boy
Posted 18 years agoWell, that's it folks, I'm now anotehr year older. Yep, I have managed to reach the ripe old age of twenty-six, and, well, it still feels a lot like twenty-five. Been a good day, though, I've been able to catch up with friends and family, and for that I feel blessed.
Other than that, it's been a lot of preparation for Califur. Trying desperately to get N'duk the Hunter: Volume III through the printers in time for the con, but that seems to be a losing battle against the clock. Still, I'm shooting for it. To the few of you I owe things to, they're either on their way or will be shortly, unless I've already arranged to get it to you at Califur, that is.
To everyone else who plans to be at Califur, I'll see you there, and I'll have some nice originals in the art show this time, as well as extremely limited oversized matted and framed prints, as usual. And, of course the commission and badge-o-rama will ensue. I'll be joining

Might see a few more pieces pop up here before the con, though, and if all goes well, I'll also be opening up sales of my N'duk the Hunter books, volumes I through III, after the con. (Presuming I don't sell out AGAIN.)

My Avatar.
Posted 18 years agoMy avatar here was created out of, quite frankly, a lack of pieces of my own artwork I liked enough, or thought defined me well enough back when I first registered my FA account waaaaay back in the day. It was simple enough to combined my love for Iron Chef and Homestar Runner into the lovable, The Cheat-eating Chairman Kaga image we've all grown to know and love today, but quite frankly I'm getting tired of people thinking I'm Japanese.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but when you're half British and half Spanish, you don't exactly have a good semblance to the Chairman, there.
I've kept my avatar icon up for so long because I hear that people like it, and they've grown to associate it with my artwork because they can't seem to be troubled to remember my name... But, as much as I like my icon, I think it's time for a change.
So, what say you all? Should I retire Chairman Kaga and save The Cheat from a life of being bitten with an artifical crunch, or should I keep him up. I mean, I've seen it used other places now by other people, so I guess I should be flattered that my icon has been deemed good enough to steal. Should I stick with it, or make up a new avatar? I'll leave that decision to you, my adoring (and sometimes deploring) fans.
And remember, the power is yours! At least until I change my mind, that is...

If it ain't broke, go to FC
Posted 18 years agoWell, a few days back I thought I broke my foot. Thankfully it turned out to be just a sprain, and I'm able to sort of walk on it now. So, those of you going to FC will in fact see me there, at my table and everything. My books, N'duk the Hunter volumes I and II will be available there, and I'll be taking pre-orders for the nearly complete Volume III, plus I'll have some other goodies such as my infamous Tevvies mini-portfolio, new art prints, possibly soem framed art at the table, as well as custom badges and sketchbook drawings.
Due to my injured foot, I might not be able to get around as fast as I would normally like, so please, if you stop by and see me I'll greatly appreciate it.
In the meantime, take a gander around the gallery, I've got some fun new pieces up and hope to have another couple done before the con, too. Thanks!

State to State Transfer
Posted 19 years agoIts been a while since I updated th is thing, and while Im not much of one for doing journals, I feel lame seeing the same one over and over again.
So, Ill start out with greetings from southern California. Yes, I recently moved from Washington State to SoCal, and the weather is decidedly nicer, though I really do miss home. Changed occupations as well; went from being an auto mechanic to working for a large bank, so thats a good step for me. As far as art goes, well, Ive hadly been able to do a darn thing since Califur, but I hope thatll change soon. Yes, I know I still owe a few commissions, and Im trying to work on them, but moving takes a lot out of you.
Still, things are looking up, and my cat is adjusting to the new place as well as I could hope for. Might pop up a few new pieces from time to time, but at the moment my writing is going to be taking center stage.

Back to the Grind
Posted 19 years agoCalifur was fun, though I didn't get to hang out much with everyone like I wanted. Darn Guest of Honor duties... Oh well, so it goes.
Volumes I & II of N'duk the Hunter sold very well, and I'm happy that so many people took interest in my writing. To those waiting on your pre-orders, don't worry, they're coming. And to those of you (I think only three left) still waiting on art due from me fromt he con, it'll be done and at your door soon, I promise. Work has picked up and my free time got cut way down.
In the bad news department, Conifur 2006 has been CANCELLED. Evidently they can't find a hotel out of the HUNDREDS in the area, so they just cancelled the whole con. Needless to say, I'm more than just miffed, but I'll survive, I guess. Still, I hate it when my local con just falls apart like that.
As far as what new work will be coming up for here, I'm not exactly sure what all you'll be seeing. I have two more book projects in addition to N'duk Volume III, so those will be eating much of my time. Still, I've got a few images in the works that should be sure to please, so keep checking back, I might have something new every now and then.
Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and looked at my artwork, I'm very happy with the feedback of this community, and I look forward to being here for a good while to come.

Posted 19 years agoOkay, time for an update. Califur is looming in my sights, and despite an injured wrist, I'm pushing on as best as possible. While I might not have as much new digital art this time as I'd like, I will have more writing.
Yes, I write, and even if it means a lot of left-handed typing for the moment, I'm determined to get Volume II of my N'duk serial stories completed in time to print for the con.
So, save for a very few pieces, I'll probbaly not have much new posted here for a little while, and because of rules and regulations that publishers have in place, I sadly can't post any of my stories if I actually wish to have them published for real. Just wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and still working, though a bit slower than normal, sadly.

Slight setback...
Posted 19 years agoWell, the Emerald City ComiCon was great, met Kurt Busiek and got my entire Conan collection signed by him. Also met Brom, and chatted with him for a while. Yeah. Saturday was good.
Sunday... not so good.
Those of you expecting cool new art from me soon might want to sit back for a bit. In a brave attempt to catch a glass of water from falling to the floor from the counter in my kitchen, I slipped, fell, and sprained my right wrist. Yeah, happy joy all around the frikkin' world.
So, yeah, I'll be doing my darndest to finish out everything I owe, but it's going to take me a bit of time.
Oh, and three people at the con asked if I was Kevin Smith. Boo-yah.

I look like Kevin Smith
Posted 19 years agoNo, really, I do. Grew the beard back and everything.
Anyhoo, I suppose it's about time I wrote up one of these journal things, seeing as they appear to be all the rage.
As some of you know, I was given the priveledge of being the Guest of Honor for Califur in 2006. It was pretty unnexpected, and I'm really pretty excited about it!
But, because of that, I also feel under a lot of pressure to get a lot of things finished to a really high degree. Including writing. Yes, I write, too, not too many of you knew that. Sadly, because of rules that publishers have, I can't post any of my works here, or anywhere else in their entirety, for that matter. I'd love to, but, I really do want to be published. Volume I of my serial adventures of N'duk the Hunter is done and has underwent some serious editing, and Volume II should hopefully be finished soon as well, and I hope to have both available in professionally printed paperback manner with illustrations for Califur in May. Operative word being hopefully. Holding down a full-time job isn't helping too much for that.
As for FC, if I did a sketch for you, could you please scan it and email it to me, and if you did one for me and haven't gotten a scan yet, let me know! I had a blast at FC, and hope to be back next year.
Current projects include: N'duk Volume II, Califur tee-shirt design, Califur con book cover, N'duk and Gwyneth team-up image, Derrer and Roland image, more of Roderick, J'ktal might be making another appearance, a cool fantasy image if Aiimus, and whoevever else pops into my head, too. Might even be some real media stuff too, who knows.
For those in the Seattle area, look for me at the Emerald City ComiCon on April 1'st, where I will be impersonating Kevin Smith. Badly. But here's to ten bucks saying someone still thinks I'm him!
