Ponyvania Project Announcement
Posted 5 years agoLordSuperstar and the Ponut Packs
Posted 5 years agoThis is in regards to LordSuperstar (aka Peruano), one of the artists who's been in a few of the Ponut Packs, and who was upset about not being re-invited. Being a part of the Ponut Pack meant a lot to LordSuperstar. It was something he was very excited about, and enjoyed working on. I'd like to clarify what happened, and why he ultimately wasn't re-invited to PP6.
LordSuperstar has been difficult to work with, mainly due to their inability to speak English. They communicate entirely by feeding things in and out of google translate, which only works on a very basic level. This has created problems in the past. During PP4 LordSuperstar became deeply offended when one of the artists in the group made a joke about photoshopping a 1% opacity Jesus into a character's eye-reflection, which stems from an inside-joke about hiding silly things in your art and seeing how long it takes before someone notices it.
LordSuperstar is apparently deeply religious, and he conveyed to me in DM that he was offended by the joke and did not like that other people were OK with the joke. I wanted to avoid drama, since LordSuperstar has been a bit sensitive about these sorts of things in the past. So my immediate response was "alright guys let's keep it professional, no religious memes." Personally, I didn't like the idea of 'censoring' chat, and I'd prefer people talk or joke about anything they like. But LordSuperstar seemed quite upset, and we didn't want him to feel uncomfortable, so I thought this was a reasonable compromise for now.
Unfortunately, LordSuperstar genuinely thought I was being sarcastic, and nothing I could tell him would convince him otherwise. We talked in DMs for over an hour, but due to the language barrier, I was unable to properly explain the situation. It felt like everything I tried to say only made the situation worse, so I eventually just told him to chill out and try to move on. He did the polar opposite of chill out, he became religiously-heated in the artpack group chat, and it was making everyone very uncomfortable. It got so bad that I had to explain that if he continues to start drama, we'd have to remove him from the chat entirely. He'd still be able to submit art for the pack, but he wouldn't be able to participate in chat until he calms down.
Eventually he calmed down, but truthfully I think he felt more suppressed than calm. I ended up spending at least 2 hours talking to him in DMs, doing my best to comfort him despite the language barrier. I think he felt silenced, like he was not allowed to voice his opinions anymore. Again, that's not the message I wanted to convey, but our inability to properly communicate made it seem this way. Luckily it turned out that one of the artists actually speaks his native language, and was able to communicate with him more properly. Sadly, even that didn't solve anything. The artist who speaks his language had told me in DMs that he has a lot of growing up to do, and nothing good came from it.
Despite all of this, we still invited LordSuperstar to PP5 later on.
During PP5 LordSuperstar was causing even more trouble, now using the artpack chat as a place to vent his frustrations and routinely stress everyone out. I understand he needs someone to talk to, but the chat is not the right place, it can hurt the other artist's motivation pretty bad. He was struggling with his art this time, complaining daily about how he's not going to make it, and ended up submitting his work absolute last minute. Myself and other artists helped him out, red-lining his art, giving him advice, and doing anything we could to motivate him. Everyone was really nice about the whole situation.
When it was all said and done, LordSuperstar ended up doing less than half of the minimum requirements for PP5. He did not understand the pack's guidelines at all and he did not follow the pack's theme. Normally submissions of this quality couldn't be accepted, as it would be unfair to the other artists who've worked hard to fulfill all of the requirements. But his work was accepted regardless. He tried very hard on his pictures, and I felt it was the right thing to do. Though after that, we decided not to reinvite him for PP6. Although I know he's very enthusiastic about these projects, it's just too much stress for us to deal with.
Ultimately LordSuperstar felt like he was being banished from the group, and decided to make the situation very public on his social media. I think it really gives the wrong impression about me and what these art packs are supposed to be, so I felt obligated to share my side of the situation. Considering my efforts to make things work, it is somewhat heartbreaking to see him write such terrible things about me on every single social platform he uses, while also blocking me from all of them so I have no chance to respond or explain myself. However, I'm not upset with him, and I don't resent him for doing this. It can be difficult to convey emotions with text alone (especially when you don't even speak the same language), and a lot of this is a matter of miscommunication.
And LordSuperstar, if you're reading this: I hope you're doing well and staying safe.
Take care,
-Mittsies

The Problem with Fetish Edits
Posted 6 years agoI've recently decided to remove (DNP) all fetish edits from Derpibooru and wanted to briefly explain why.
As always, fetish versions of my art can be found at https://inkbunny.net/Mittsies (in the scraps gallery)
I’m not embarrassed by my fetish art - I just don't want to subject people to this stuff without any kind of barrier. It's not nice.
When I first did these types of dirty fetishes, they were a secret hidden within a flash animation that took multiple steps to find.
It was never my intention for people to be 1 click away from seeing something gross -- it was always supposed to be politely obscured.
Ultimately my goal is to make sure that the people who follow me for my vanilla content won't accidentally stumble upon the kinky stuff.
Yeah, it's not hard to blacklist something, but it's an extra step nearly everyone has to do for each kink they dislike.
Is really fair to expect so many people to blacklist these kinks, when only a small minority of people even want to see them?
I don't think it is, personally.
If something is so commonly unwanted that the majority of users have to blacklist it, then why is it even posted to begin with?
People who actually want to see this type of art will go out of their way to find it, so posting it on a booru site generally does more harm than good.
Also just sayin'... telling people to "just filter it" is kind of like saying "just close your eyes" everytime you whip your dick out in public.
InkBunny is a good choice due to its fantastic tagging/blacklist system, and it's a personal gallery, not a public booru.
I also post the dirty stuff in scraps so it doesn't show up on the main feed, requiring you to actively watch my account or go directly into my scraps.

Aedollon's new website - if you like extreme artwork
Posted 6 years agoif you don't know:
aedollon is an artist who draws some very impressive and extreme artwork, and has collaborated with me on 2 big animation projects in the past.
they've recently put up a website where you can contribute to them monthly to support their work, as artists basically cannot exist without a consistent source of revenue.
I think this is a creative alternative to making another Patreon page, and I hope they can get enough support to keep things going.
check our their website here: https://aedollon.com/
Note: Aedollon has not asked me to do this, I made this journal entirely out of my own ambitions.

Chance to get your idea drawn!
Posted 7 years agoAs you may or may not know, my latest pony art pack has released ( https://mittsies.itch.io/ponutpack4 ).
Anyone who buys the pack this month will be able to submit an idea to be potentially drawn by one of the artists in the pack.
If you'd like to submit an idea of your own, just check the readme file within the pack.
The idea can be complex or really simple, though keep in mind overly-complex ideas will probably not be picked.
Less than 20 people have submitted an idea so far, so your chances of being picked are currently very high!
If you’ve already bought the pack, the deadline submitting an idea is Nov 2nd.

I'm trying an experimental "point system" which I feel will encourage people to pick the extras they really want and not have to worry about the cost.
I'm interested in hearing your feedback or comments about this system, if you have any, so don't be afraid to send me a note with your thoughts! :3

InkBunny
Posted 8 years agoFor the time being, I will be exclusively using InkBunny as a place to put alternative/extra/kinky versions of artwork.
These versions will not be available on FurAffinity, e621, Derpibooru, etc. so if you want to see them you'll need to make an InkBunny account.
While I understand this might seem like an inconvenience for users who don't like to use multiple sites, I have good reasons to do this.
Firstly and most importantly, InkBunny has a proper tagging/search system and allows for posting multiple images per submission.
Secondly, I want to separate the more fetishy content from my other sites so people who aren't into certain things can easily avoid them.

Music Time
Posted 8 years agoI'll be uploading 3 new audio tracks to my YouTube today ( https://www.youtube.com/user/Mittsies ). It's been a very productive month for music, I've felt very inspired. I've made several work-in-progress tracks and even managed to finish 3 outright. I'll be posting them on tumblr and youtube, so if you're not already following/subscribed to one of those, it's time to come on down.
You know it's interesting, I got my start with music here on FurAffinity, it was the first place I had officially uploaded my audio works publicly. Some of my oldest (and shittiest) audio tracks from all the way back to 2011 can still be found in my scraps. It wasn't until I uploaded Stratum ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8443034/ ) back in 2012 that I realized "hey maybe I'm not completely horrible at this". Ever since then I've been constantly trying my best to improve because music has always been a big passion in my life.
Sometimes it can be hard to find the inspiration required to make stuff -- not just music, but anything. I'm just glad I have outlets to share my stuff with and have people give me feedback. Reading comments, emails, private messages, etc. is what really keeps me going at the end of the day because I know I'm having an impact on people's lives. I'm sure all you content creators out there can really relate to this.
Anyways, I hope everyone has a nice sunday morning/afternoon/evening.

Posted 10 years agoThe Patreon Logo: We are sick of looking at it
Posted 10 years agoNote: strong opinions ahead. everything I'm saying here is aimed at improving the community as a whole, not slamming anyone in particular. Ultimately, it's up to each individual to decide how they want to run things.
My previous journal about Patreon Paywall here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6356476/
stop using the patreon logo as a censor.
don't even post censored versions.
nobody is going to become your patreon just to see a single picture.
I don't care if you plan on releasing the picture later, it's just obnoxious and unnecessary
anyone can just sign up for someone's patreon, download all of the images, then immediately cancel their pledge before making a payment.
when you censor a picture with the patreon logo, you're annoying your fans and making people gradually hate the concept of patreon more and more.
Patreon is a fantastic way to support artists if used properly, but it becomes ugly when it's abused. We are sick of looking at it. Just stop.
some ideas:
a) Put it next to your work in a non-invasive way, this encourages people to support your work and lets current contributors know their money is going to a good cause.
b) Let people view the image on Patreon without being supporters. It'll get people to visit your page and they might be tempted to sign up right then and there.
c) Don't use it at all. Patreon doesn't have to be shoved in people's faces at every given opportunity. Just putting in the description: "if you liked this you can support me here" is good enough.
Regardless, if you think censoring your own work is a good strategy then by all means go for it. Everyone has their approach to this sort of thing, and I'll try my best to respect their methods. Just keep in mind that this form of censorship is making everyone who uses Patreon look bad, even those who don't paywall their content. It's hard to make a living off of artwork alone, I fully understand this. Getting to where I am now was a slow journey, and I know everyone is just trying to succeed and improve, but you can't trample all over your fans just to get a few extra bucks. Just remember that in most scenarios, you are nothing without a fanbase. So respect your fans, whether they're paying customers or not. Even if they don't support you financially, they support you in other ways.
If you agree, share this journal with some artists you know. I'll be satisfied if I can persuade even a couple artists to improve their routine.

Patreon is not a pay-wall.
Posted 10 years ago*warning: opinions ahead*
Patreon is not a way to pay-wall content. Users should not need to pay money in order to see your work, otherwise your Patreon is nothing more than one of those subscription-based porn websites. It's one thing to post previews of upcoming work on Patreon or letting people beta test your content, but completely locking away major content with a price tag is pointless. Really it's no different from selling a "portfolio" of pictures for a $ amount. It makes a large number of your fans very salty and ultimately less people will see what you've created, neither of which are good things. I feel that the primary reason for becoming a Patreon should be because they love what the artist does and wants to support them, NOT just so they can see all the locked content. Me personally, I include rewards for donations, but they're just fun little things meant to be a kind gesture -- to show my appreciation for the contributions. I don't keep any flash animations/art/etc. hidden away to Patreons only.
this is just how I see it. what do you guys think?
Do you primarily support artists on Patreon because you want them to continue creating stuff or do you just want to see the extra content they've hidden away?
