October: Get-Shit-Done Month (AGAIN)
Posted 11 years agoAs usual (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2776527/), October is the most productive month of the year for me.

a few reasons why weasyl is doomed to fail
Posted 11 years agoWeasyl, as some (I mean very few) of you might know about, is a another furaffinity-clone which allows its users to post artwork and other media for free. Since a lot of people feel that FA has a terrible layout, near-useless search system, questionable moderation and strict policies (no cub) sites like Weasyl and Inkbunny have popped in to compete with some of that traffic. Inkbunny has a great layout and a fantastic search system, making it very easy to find not only exactly what you're looking for but to find similar stuff as well. Weasyl, on the other hand, relies heavily on finding what you want with a SINGLE KEYWORD.
Let's say you wanted to search for all MLP flash animations, pretty simple right? Well if you type in "my_little_pony flash animated" you're going to get every single submission tagged with "flash", "animated" OR "my_little_pony" -- you're searching for uploads that have ANY of those 3 tags, not all 3. If someone knows how to search for posts containing multiple tags please let me know. If you enter just "my_little_pony" and then use Subcategory "animation", you get nothing at all... why? Because subcategories apply only to non-multimedia, so you'd be searching for like animated .GIF files or something. And what about if you just wanted to search for the best artwork on the site, either by most views or most favorites, well you can't do that either. You just type in a single keyword and hope it lands you what you want. Maybe they expect you to use Weasyl as a 'browsing site' instead of specifically searching for what you want? But the browsing system is even more shitty because there is zero criteria: you just wade through all of the art you don't want to see until you eventually find something that might interest you. Seriously go try for yourself: https://www.weasyl.com/search
As a contributor, I also have a few issues with the site. One big thing is no option to make mass-changes. I want to move a bunch of submissions into a folder all at once, but the only way to do it is to edit each file manually, put it into the folder, re-save the thumbnail, then submit. I mean it would only take me 15 minutes, but it's still busywork I don't wanna invest time in, so I guess I'm just not gonna use the folder feature. There's no convenient way to see submission statistics, they kept the awful shout system; ultimately Weasyl just feels like a stripped version of FA. I've uploaded all of my work there because I want to give users the option to use whichever site they prefer, but personally I'd never use the site to browse art unless they made some major changes to the way you search for art.
Weasyl hasn't done a single innovative thing to differentiate itself from other sites (being able to add a banner to your page is not innovative). Seriously more people should use inkbunny, even if it is a cesspool and breeding grounds for "cubophiles". There's nothing wrong with FA, but IB is just an objectively better website due to its superior tagging and searching systems. I'm not saying anyone should leave FA -- you shouldn't -- but consider using both, unless uploading work to 1 more site is a big pain for you.
That's just my view on the matter, anyways. (PS: e621 is still the best site overall)

Edit: Thanks to shinymew (See comment below) for showing me how to do multiple tags. It's completely unintuitive, but you have to add a + in front of each tag.
i.e.: "+flash +animation +my_little_pony" ... example here: https://www.weasyl.com/search?searc.....UTXqDtk1z7qa7n

inkbunny in a nutshell
Posted 11 years agoThinking back, thinking forward.
Posted 11 years agoThinking back: Just now I went through and deleted all my shouts (just wanted to clean up my page). It was kind of cool to see the really old shouts from 5 years ago, about people saying stuff like "I hope to see more work from you / you have potential / you might be decent one day" etc. It's almost strange to go back and look at my animations, I used to be absolutely terrible but even from the very beginning my agenda was clear: experiments. I've always tried new things and tried to surprise people. Like in the Tavaa Squirrel flash I made in 2011, (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6654215/) the experiment was to create a character that looked sort of like a male but then later was revealed to be a girl to see how people responded. A few months later I created that Kishi flash that had a very unusual form of interaction in which you could ask the character for permission or just do it, and her mood would determine if you did the right thing or not. Miaka, the flash with the human catgirl barmaid, was based somewhat off of what I did with the Kishi flash: a very interactive flash animation with tons of options and I think that's one of my favorite flash creations to date.
The Miaka flash was originally intended to trick the audience into thinking the character was a girl, only to reveal she had a penis (futanari) after starting up the flash. The idea here is not just to deceive people for a laugh, but rather to see how they respond to this sort of thing. I can certainly say it's not every day in the world of flash animations something like that would occur. I'd say the biggest experiment I've ever done was 2 years ago when I made my first big adult pony flash with the help of my friend R!P. I was expecting a lot of hate, but also a lot of love because ponies were kinda trendy at the time. I've always liked cartoons and the pony artstyle really just stood out to me, it was complimentary of what I enjoyed to create so I just continued to roll with it. Today, I think it's safe to say that I'm more known for my MLP R34 than anything else I've done. I still try to throw out some furry and human flashes when I can, but I know a large chunk of my fans really want the ponies.
Thinking forward: The next big experiment is undoubtedly this new adult pony project I've been creating, which I've been calling "Cloptopia" -- some of you may have heard of this, especially if you are signed up with my Patreon. For the first time ever, I take the concept of an interactive flash one step further and make an actual game out of it. I don't mean like a mini-game, a visual novel, an interactive-movie but a full-fledged strategy game where you get to create and manage your own little city. It's truly unlike anything I've ever done or seen before, probably because nobody else has been stupid enough to try something like this. Just like all of my other experiments, I'm sure some people will find it exciting and interesting, and some won't. I am testing the game in 'waves' of people, first I go to individuals to get their personal feelings on the game while I flesh out the systems - next I will release it to all of my Patreon subscribers, then later on I'll release it to the general public. After the game gets a full public release, I will most likely continue to update the game while utilizing the feedback people have given me.
I'd also like to talk about Patreon a little more. Patreon is more than just "hey give me money", it's about showing support for the artists you love. Donating even the smallest amount means a lot to me because you went out of your way to support my cause. A lot of people feel obligated to drop $20 so they don't seem like cheapskates, but really that's not the point. With only the $1/month pledge you can still vote on stuff, participate in surveys, view all of the news/announcement/updates I post on Patreon and you'll get early access to the games as well. It's designed to be a price that anyone can afford. And please, if for any reason you cannot or do not want to support me in that way, don't feel bad about it. You can just send me a friendly email or say hello on skype, instead! There are all sorts of way of showing support that do not involve throwing me a bone. Besides if I was desperate for money, I'd be doing commissions, not asking for hand-outs. :P
Anyways, thanks for reading this. I'm just sharing my thoughts with everyone. (not that anyone on furaffinity actually reads journals, anyways)
Much love ♥

Posted 11 years agoHuge new project soon, seeking private testers & support.
Posted 11 years agoHello wonderful fans of mine,
I've been working on something pretty big these past few months and I can't wait to share it with you guys, but I'm waiting until the project is in a state that I'm satisfied with before releasing it to a broader audience. This means I'm limiting those who test my game to a smaller group of people for now. I can tell you a few things about the project though: It's going to be a complete, playable game -- not just an interactive animation like usual. It will be adult-oriented and feature pony characters; perhaps more variety as time goes on. The game play will feature strategy elements, resource-management and allow you to design something really cool. I think everyone is gonna have a lot of fun with this one. I expect this new project to be released as an early alpha version sometime next month (June).
The reason I'm telling you about this project is because (just like the subject of this journal says) I'm seeking support and early-access testers. A project like this will take a very long time to complete, especially if I continue to update it and add content, so if I don't get funding support then I'll have to cancel the project and work on commissions instead. Let's hope that's not the case! So if you want to directly support this new project, as well as everything else I do: consider being a Patron. Even if you only pledge $1 per month, you'll still get early access to the game when I'm ready for a broader audience to test my game. Not only that, there are other benefits/rewards for making Pledges too. As I'm still working on many of the most basic features, I'm keeping the number of testers very limited for the time being. With that being said, if you Pledge as a 'Contributor' you can join an exclusive Skype Chat and help me test the project RIGHT NOW and be added to the credits of the game.
Even if $1/month is too rich for your blood or if you're not interested in helping me test an early version of the game, don't worry. The game will be free to access once I release the game to the public. Not every can afford an animation auction, not every can win an animation raffle, but I'm sure that literally anyone can afford to Pledge a small amount if they wish to support my cause. Like I said before: if in the event I cannot get enough funding support, then I will have to focus on commissions/auctions instead of working on projects like these. The main reason I create animations and games is to entertain my fans, so it's only natural you should help adjudicate what kind of stuff I create.
Click here if you're interested in supporting me!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a note, an email or contact me on Skype.
Seriously, you guys are the best. Thanks! ♥

Also please send me a message first if you wanna talk. It's hard to see who recently added me, I'm not using a normal Skype client.

Constipation
Posted 11 years agoIt's like everyone on FurAffinity has been constipated for weeks, and then all of a sudden they get a bowel movement and everyone takes a shit all at once.
scraps
Posted 12 years agoI was considering deleting a bunch of old stuff, but I've just moved them scraps for now.
So if you feel like looking at one of my shitty sketches or listening to some of my ancient music it's still there for your viewing pleasure.

Are People afraid to comment on things?
Posted 12 years agoI've always wondered this, especially when I see views into the tens of thousands and generally less than 100 comments.
For instance, on Applequest, only about 1 in every 250 people left a comment.
Yet when I asked for a survey, I got responses into the thousands over a week or so.
From this, I can only assume that people are shy about commenting publicly or sending me a direct email but don't mind giving anonymous group feedback.
Feedback is important to me, I try to read all of the comments/emails/notes and reply to most of them, just so you know.

Posted 12 years agoHello everyone, if you’re not terribly busy, I’d like you to answer a few questions about my adult animations to help me understand what you’d like to see in future projects. It shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes.
I appreciate it, thank you! :3
