Back to real life
Posted 10 years agoWell FC is over, although I still have some photos to share. It's always weird entering the between-cons hiatus. The furry withdrawal symptoms would be less taxing if I could occupy myself by working on fursuit /cosplay/art stuff. Alas school demands too much of my time. Mojave and the Tiggerumi should be repaired repaired in time for the next con, at least. Here's my 2015 con schedule:
Jan - FC - attended
May - BLFC - for sure barring death/capture
June - Califur - 75% certain, because it's during finals
I'd love to go to more West Coast Coast cons, but no promises yet. May go to smaller events eventsin the interim like Frolic for a furry fix if time permits.

Total Fox Moment
Posted 11 years agoSo some furiends of mine had their birthday party recently, and it was lovely! When it was over, we all cleaned the kitchen... I did my part my eating aaaaaallllll the leftover cake. That way no-one had to put it away!
Leave it to a fox to convince you he's helping clean by eating cake X3

SoCal Summer 2014
Posted 11 years agoHeeeey SoCal furs? Are you cool? Are we friends? Are you an energetic fluffbutt who likes to have fun and cause trouble? Well I'm going to be traveling to SoCal throughout this summer, and want to dance and sing and play with furiends.
Hit me up! reply, PM, email, bite my ear, let me know when between now and Oct 1 you'll be free. Really want to take this brief opportunity to be social and not my normal hermit-y self.

Southern California, Here I Come!
Posted 11 years agoOkay, my class schedule is demanding, but I'm officially going to Califur =-D. I was having trouble finding transportation that fit my school schedule (both classes, and potential lost writing and grading time). When it got down to the wire, though, I was able to put something together (although this means that I am bringing my homework along). Looking forward to seeing everyone ^-^ This is what it's all about, guys - communities with shared interests coming together for festivities and finding friends. Super duper uber stoked XD
...and now for the bad news. Because I'm switching buses and trains and all sorts of chaos, I couldn't bring checked luggage. Which means I couldn't bring either my Mojave fursuit, nor debut Pictograph's. =-C . Why? Because each one takes up the room of a very large duffel bag, well outside of Amtrak's carry-on size limit. So for the second consecutive con, I'll be watching the parade, rather than being in it, but honestly, that's the best vantage point anyhow!

Califur 2014 Travel
Posted 11 years agoHey California Furs! So I'm really hoping on going to Califur 2014, but I'm trying to secure some transportation. With my beloved car ("Cora") out of commission for a while, I need to ride share. I'm travelling from Santa Cruz. Pretty sure I've got a ride down to the con, but not wholly certain about transportation back. Is anyone with a spare seat driving from Irvine to Bay Area either Sunday June 1 or early Monday June 2? I'll kick in for gas monies, and make you a free badge in return!
Introducing a new fursona!
Posted 11 years ago!!!
I've been hinting at this for a while, and it's finally time for the reveal. I planned on débuting the new fellow at BLFC, but alas, he wasn't ready. I've finally made enough progress that I should have something by the next con, so I feel it's high time.
Behold, Pictograph! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13334851/
Description: Pictograph, or Pict for short, is quite an exotic character. Some sort of space coyote - kachina hybrid / changeling thing, it's difficult to say just what he is for sure. Summoned by dancing, he is neither dead nor alive, and cannot return to the spirit realm until he SHAKES DAT TAIL. His accessories include beads, feathers, bandanas, light-up-things, and musical instrument. Likes include: fire, food, music, dancing until he drops, and peyote (we won't say why =3). Dislikes include: mopy or boring people, the quiet, trolls, and sobriety. especially that last one <.<. Talents include facemelt (probably why his face is down to skull now =-D). Since he is summoned, and not born, the arrangement of the colors on his markings are subject to change at each manifestation. Pict may even change gender based on whim and fancy. Don't worry, it's still Pictograph, just a different pictograph (big "P" versus little "p", important distinction).

I miss being a real boy
Posted 11 years agoFor the last year or a little more, I've been absolutely drowning in my work. For those of you who don't know, I'm a graduate student. That means that between teaching for a living and taking classes towards a degree, I seldom have any time to draw, go outside, or cook myself food. Even a quick shower is a strain on my schedule some days -.- but my canine nose won't let me skip hygiene, NOPE NOPE NOPE!
Anyhow, just wanted to explain why I don't complete much art or many projects lately. My workload is so much I will disappear from the social sphere of the internet for weeks on end. I know it worries my furiends, but it's the only way I can get by. In fact, I'm procrastinating right now by writing this note. I also wanted to thank furiends new and old for sticking by me, even though I get reclusive for long periods. It means so much to me that ya'll are willing to stick by me even when I don't put as much into maintaining friendships and I should. You folks make me feel I have a real and meaningful social life outside of my study-cave, even if I only emerge once a quarter....
Fuzzy hugs and cheek-kisses all around, I love my furry family and friends so much <3

What The Hell Is Mojave Up To? PRESS RELEASE!
Posted 11 years agoOkay, so I've been posting some very vague teasers in my scraps (see http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12776067/ and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12776687/ ). I've recently found myself highly inspired in costume crafting again. Some of this comes from shows I've been to lately. A lot of inspiration comes from some really awesome fursuit designs I saw at FC this year.
So I tried just throwing my gloving lights in Mojave's existing paws. It kinda worked. The thing is, I designed his paws without lights in mind, and they block out a bunch. Plus, I realized I can make a kickass set of fingerlights exclusively for fursuiting. But why, then, did I get sooo many LEDs, instead of just 10? Well, let's say that this kitfox is going to bring his fursuiting into the 21st century!

Important note to fursuit builders =o
Posted 11 years agoApparently hot glue glows under blacklight. I don't know if this is common knowledge or not. But it does... much more visibly than even clean white fur... or at least the cheap white fur I used. I guess be aware of this, and use it sparingly at most near the surface if you plan on wearing your fursuit where there are likely to be blacklights.... or cover up the glued spot reaaaaally well.....
...because...
Right now Mojave's head looks like it's crying body fluids from its pores Ono

Posted 11 years ago"I'm back, baby!"
Many, many, many thanks to my friends - old and new - at FC. I had sort of fallen out of the furry community for a while, and you guys brought me back. You showed me that there are new and interesting things going on, to unleash my creativity and suspend my inhibitions, and most of all the substantial love you all have to offer. *big warm hugs to all my furiends*. And I want to also thank those who couldn't make it to FC but continue to show me love anyhow, even when I vanish! *more warm hugs*
So I'm going to be doing more furry art again. It's not going to be very structured, though, and I probably won't be taking commissions because my IRL schedule is packed beyond capacity. But I'll probably be uploading occasional pics from time to time. Also, since my creative free time is so limited, I'm going to do less focused-nice-art stuff and more fussing around with different media experiments. could be fun??

Another Absence
Posted 12 years agoHello Furiends! I know it's been a while since I've been online. I don't think it's going to get much better for a while. I'm travelling a lot this summer (being loosely defined as June through whenever), so internet access will be spotty at best.
Hope you all have a thrilling, inspiring, art-filled summer of magic, and as the song goes...

in absentia
Posted 12 years agoSo I haven't really uploaded art lately, and it's been a few months since I've gone to any events. Don't worry, I'm not dead. I'm also no avoiding anyone, either! =-P I've been super busy lately. Life's been changing a lot, and I've been taking care of life changes/choices, which sadly had to come before being cute and fuzzy and artistic. I hope to do some events this spring (maybe with the meetup group and area furries?). Meanwhile, I'll at least be online a little more often, finally able to keep up with ya'll's posts 'n' journals 'n' stuff =-3

First Journal in Four Months
Posted 13 years agoJust a quick update:
I've gone and made my life super busy, so don't expect frequent updates from me. If artwork does get uploaded, it's mostly going to be doodles and sketches. That said, I'll still be around to say "hi" and all.
I've been fursuiting more, and want to take some more pictures of it to upload. After an embarrassing moment where my tail fell off in public, I've reinforced and improved the fursuit all around.

Commission Rally - OPEN
Posted 13 years agohello FA! I just experienced a bit of a - let's call it a personal financial catastrophe - this afternoon. In the wake of such a catastrophe, I am opening up to commissions until further notice. As many as possible. Because I want to do a bunch, and am taking about all comers, I have a bunch of prices and categories:

FUUUU---
Posted 13 years agoSo I had about finished my art due to people, and GIMP went and mussed up the files. This is the first time this has happened in years. Now I've gotta start ALL OVER FROM SCRATCH and really don't feel like it ATM. So
ethanu and
pepperporcupine, I apologize on behalf of my shitty computer, but now it's going to be a while before shit gets done. I thought we were past this day in computing where I have to second-guess the programs I'm using, but lesson learned. From now on, I will always export a .png at the end of an editing session once I've saved the .psd.
Now this fox is going to punch a bunch of boxes in frustration >.<

Califur
Posted 13 years agoIt's finally here! I've got my fursuit all together, my bags packed and I'm ready. I hope to see many of you there =-) Unfortunately, I'll miss the opening ceremonies because of a job-related emergency. In fact, I'll be arriving strait from work, so hopefully no coworkers or contractors notice a bright orange furry face staring back bat them from my trunk X-D
Artist's Block Part II: Inspiration Explosion
Posted 13 years agoIn my last journal, I talked about my frustration from a lack of inspiration. Now I'm "suffering" one might say, from the opposite dliemna: I'm over-ly inspired. I've been sketching tons, and playing around with my new tablet. It's been a little easier to come up with subject matters for the drawings since now I have the premise for this current series, "Wondering in Wonderland". I've got 5 more drawings for it in the works at the moment. Plus, I'm finishing up a drawing for a friend. Oh! Oh! Almost forgot, I found some new awesome features in the GIMP (my preferred program for illustration) that's going to make my art better (I think).
The remaining issue is I have too little time. Between work, and prepping for Califur, I don't have time left to do much drawing. I'll plug away a bit, but don't expect too much of this stuff to be posted until after the convention.
All-in-all, it looks like I'm going to be putting a lot of art up in not too long. =-D

Artist's Block
Posted 13 years agoHi again, everyone. Sorry it's been so long since I've uploaded art. I've got artist's block... more specifically, for furry art. I have been doing an okay amount of other subject matters, but everything furry I've been drying to draw has seemed both forced and poorly done. I'll update again once I've got a few acceptable things drawn.
On the topic of my art, I recently purchased a tablet/stylus setup, and have been playing with it a bit. So far, nothing worth mentioning has come from it, but I can feel its potential. You'll probably see me slowly incorporate it into my art. In the interim, I will likely be trying to do colored pencil drawings.

Celebrity is as celebrity does
Posted 13 years agoOkay, so I usually don't post things goin' on in ma life here, but ya'll might find this interesting. Tomorrow (Wednesday the 22nd) I'm gonna be on the radio. LA Talk Radio will be doin' a segment on the furry fandom at 1pm, and I'm the guest of honor, so to speak. It should be interesting, so if ya'll can tune in you should do so. Hopefully the radio show hosts and I can shed some light on the fandom and chase away the shadows of misconception.
