But I figure I'd finally make a post about my character and his background story for anyone who's interested in this sort of thing. I'll upload parts of Varen's story on occasion as time and work allows. I'm mainly doing this because I enjoy the writing process and it doesn't hurt to upload this kind of stuff to FA.

So for the curious wander, this is very much what I consider my "Draft 0" for Varen's story. I've had this in my head for many years now and have been writing out this out for awhile. Though its very much in progress. It's only recent reached a state where I feel like its in an okay-enough condition to post to my scraps. But still, I enjoy writing and hope to improve, and I said 'what the heck why not post it?'

If you've read this far, here's the story summary:

In a kingdom where magic is outlawed and creatures stalk the night, survival is earned in blood.
Varen was trained to fight the monsters plaguing the Kingdom’s norther frontier. Until he became one himself. After surviving a brutal attack, the young Sentinel awakens to find himself transformed into the very thing he was sworn to destroy: a lycan. Forever cursed as a half-wolf and mistrusted by the warriors he once called brothers, Varen must prove he’s still human where it matters most.

But darker forces stir beyond the frontier. Eldritch creatures known as Dreadspawn are spreading. Whispers of an ancient power returning to the world. As Varen grapples with what he’s become, he finds unlikely allies in a fellow Sentinel secretly harboring forbidden powers, the lady of a noble house, and a cheerful medic who sees the man behind the monster.

To survive, Varen must face the hatred of his own people, and the truth behind the Kingdom’s greatest fear.
