Some numbers about World of Warcraft....

...
World of Warcraft went live late 2004 (7 years... I'll use that number soon).
According to Blizzard, more than 12 million people to date have bought WoW and it's expansions. By the time of it's initial worldwide release, it had more than 2.5 million players.
9.5 million people over 7 years. The growth averages out to 1.35 million people a year (again, I'll use that number later).
I'm estimating, for the sake of argument, that minimally half of those people bought them all new ($50), and the other half bought them all at half price ($25). I personally think that's a pretty conservative estimate, but that's beside the point.
In other words, with my estimates, the initial sale was $93.75 million, and the profit from each year after another $50.625M for 6 years. The total comes to about $397.5M in sales from one piece of the now 4-part game.
Of course, not all of those 12M people are active players. Let's say about 9M are still active (active defined as having accounts paid for, not necessarily people who log on every day) and have all 4 parts. Each expansion lost 1M people or so. That's a fairly liberal estimate to go with the conservative one I made earlier. Again, most of this is estimation for the sake of argument.
So the sales of the first expansion would have come out to be about $364.375M, the second expansion would have been $331.25M, and the last expansion would be $298.125M. The total by those numbers is $1.39125 billion. BILLION. IN SALES OF THE GAME ALONE.
Now, monthly game subscriptions... (Don't worry, this section is shorter).
The cheapest you can get WoW is $13 a month if you buy 6 months at a time, or $156 a year. We need to quickly recalculate the growth to account for the fewer than 12M active players before we work out the profit from subscriptions.
6.5M active players over 7 years is about 930K a year. See? Quick and easy. Assuming the minimum amount, of course (with bonus free months and people paying different amounts, it's just easier to assume the minimum amount, and it grants Blizzard some leniency).
The first year, the game would have taken in $390M and another $145.08M extra over and above the first year's value each year after that. That comes out to be approximately $5.77668 billion.
And now the total.
Adding subscriptions to the sales, that's $7,167,930,000 over the course of WoW's life.
.... I'm pretty sure that qualifies as greedy. I can pretty much guarantee that it doesn't cost Blizzard even half that much in upkeep and employee salary to keep their servers running.

Understanding
You are willing to take the time to find out what's going on with other people, especially if they're in distress. You're a good listener, you don't criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it's requested. With a high score on the "understanding" trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.
Aesthetic
You appreciate art, beauty, and design; you know that they are not superficial but absolutely crucial to living the good life. You have good taste, and you're proud of it. Those with a high score on the "aesthetic" trait are often employed in literary or artistic professions, enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about the arts, reading, and travel.
You don't think it's pretentious to be moved by art and beauty. You're not one of those who believe it doesn't matter what something looks like as long as it does its job.
Creative
You are good at solving problems, coming up with original ideas, and seeing connections between things, connections that most other people miss. People with a high score on the "creative" trait often are employed in such fields as finance and scientific research, and enjoy avant garde and classical music as well as literary fiction and scholarly non-fiction.
You do not shun abstractions and concepts in favor of the concrete and tangible.
Astute
You are a quick study. You generally don't need to have things explained to you more than once. When presented with a problem, you will often have an instant understanding of where to look for the solution.
You do not take your sweet time when presented with a new task to complete or problem to solve. You don't avoid assignments that require you to learn new skills.
Intellectual
You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new every day." In general, those with a high score on the "intellectual" trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.
You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.
Sympathetic
You have a knack for knowing what's going on in the hearts and minds of those around you, without their having to tell you explicitly. People tend to turn to you with their problems because they know you care, and that you will likely offer good advice and a helping hand.
You do not feel that people with sad stories are just looking for attention, or have brought their problems upon themselves.
Warm
You have a genuine interest in other people. You're a natural host, and are always thinking about how you can increase the happiness of those around you. When friends have problems or are in trouble, you're usually the first person they turn to for aid and comfort. Scoring high on the "warm" trait suggests that you are among those who enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't always say exactly what you're thinking; you don't like the idea of causing anyone pain because of your criticism.
Empathetic
You are in touch with your own feelings, which helps put you in touch with the feelings of others.
You don't buy the logic that your happiness comes ahead of everyone else's because unless you're happy you're incapable of making anyone else happy.
Impulsive
You trust your your instincts. What others may see as rash behavior is, for you, simply going with your gut. Individuals with a high score on the "impulsive" trait tend to try new, sometimes outrageous, things.
You are not timid. For you, spending time microscopically examining the pros and cons of every decision means never getting anything accomplished.
Competent
You strive to master everything you undertake. You tend to learn quickly and do not shy away from challenges.
You are not a "que sera sera" type of person, nor do you go easy on yourself when attempting to master a new skill or get a job done.

Posted 14 years agoI liked the new Thundercats. A lot.
Better than the original? Hard to say, since there's only been one episode. And is it really just a remake? Not so far. It's more like a new story that just happens to have the same title characters. In that sense, can you really compare them? Probably :P
Thundara, instead of being its own planet, is now a city on 3rd Earth.
Advanced technology, instead of being a universal truth, is an ancient myth.
Mum-ra, the ever-living, is now the Thundercat's oldest enemy.
Tigra is Liono's older brother.
Cheetarah is a priestess.
WilyKit and WilyKat are street urchins.
Panthro is a war hero (and looks a lot like Jet from Cowboy Bebop X3).
They all used to be heads of noble houses :P
I'm trying to compare the new to the old without giving away too many spoilers X3

Dreams...
Posted 14 years agoA couple weeks ago, I had a nightmare about a strange red liquid with pretty horrifying properties.
Last night, I had a very similar dream...
I was hanging out with
dbear,
sheppymilo, and Malleus. We were all older. At least, I think we were. We looked older than we do now, and they weren't living in the same house as they are now.
I don't remember any specific details, but I do remember seeing that liquid come flying at us from somewhere. It hit everyone somewhere on their bodies and started doing what it does...
And I woke up again. I'm still weirded out by the whole thing. Not just the dream, but also that I've had a nightmare about the same thing twice now. Especially considering how little I dream.

Weird-ass dream!
Posted 14 years agoI had a really weird dream this morning. I know it was this morning because it occurred between when I woke up at 8:30 and when I got up at 9:30 :P
I was at a school in some big city. Not entirely sure where. I was sitting in a class with the desks arranged in an arc around the outside of the room. I was closest to the door. I know this because I could easily see the teacher's student mafifesto. He was writing down a series of slashes and o's based on participation and such.
I don't know quite what class it was. I got a call from
furrywolf999 round about the middle of it, telling me to look out the classroom door and down the hall. The teacher was okay with me talking on the phone in the middle of class X3 He was standing down at the other end of the hall, but was a skinny Fillipino for some reason XD He dropped down on his knees to look at something I was wearing, which looked to my classmates like he was fgoing down on me X3 We hung out in the hall for a while, but I told him I had to get back to class.
We were having a non-class related discussion about stem cells, and someone said something about stem cells absorbed through the forehead turning people into geniuses. Then some of my classmates urged me to get
furrywolf999 join us, but he was talking to someone. Looked like a school administrator or something. He shut the door before I could leave the room. At which point, the teacher put on a video of stem cells being absorbed into a baby. Someone poured a little bit of thick, red liquid presumably the "absorbable" stem cells) onto the infant's chest, causing it to gape open and spill in, then close back up. That kind of shocked me awake X3

Posted 14 years agoA couple of really good friends had birthdays recently, so I decided to get a commission for them. I contacted several people all at once rather than asking one person at a time and waiting for them to get back to me.
kuma and
gazpacho both got back to me :P I love both of their art so much that rather than try and pick one over the other, I simple chose both.
These are my first commissions ever. So I decided to turn it into an experiment. I gave both artists the same general idea, and when asked, the same details to draw, and watched how each evolved differently. It was an amazing process :3
I'm glad the boys like them both X3 I certainly love the work the artists put into them

Just in the first round, down there in the bottom right corner... Microsoft beat out Apple as a better company.
Despite all their posturing and how loud the iDrones are, Apple was still voted as being worse than Microsoft. By more than 20% X3 I suppose this just reinforces the idea that the minority has to be louder and more annoying to be heard.

The Rules:
- You must post these rules.
- Each tagged person must post 10 "things you might not know" about themselves on their journal.
- In the post, you have to choose and tag 10 people to do the same thing.
- Go to their pages and tell them you tagged them! no tag backs!
1) I weigh about 190 pounds, technically "obese" for my height, but I'm actually trying to gain weight
2) I've celebrated every birthday (and every other Christmas) since I turned 8 alone
3) When I game, I tend to gravitate between systems, but only play 1 game at a time per console
4) I'm a huge fan of D&D (anything pre-4.0 gets me all wet)
5) My favorite kind of video game is strategy. I love both varieties equally
6) I'm quiet, but I love being around friends, even though I might seem withdrawn
7) I love swimming. I would exercise more if there was a pool readily available
8) Although I was born in the north, nobody can fry chicken like I can
9) I love happy, upbeat music. I'm a fan of the Spice Girls
10) I feel more comfortable around new people if there are dogs involved. Even a little outgoing

Piercings (take 2)
Posted 15 years agoWell, I got myself that Prince Albert. It's been 2 days and it's already healing up quite nicely. Hasn't bled at all since the first 12 hours. Which, if you know anything about that kind of piercing, is a bit on the strange side. Particularly if you get a stiffy (which I have).
I'm not complaining, though X3
Anywho, the guy started me off on a 14 gauge (1.6 mm). I eventually want to stretch it out to a 0 (10 mm). I think a 00 (12 mm) would be pushing it, however. A 0 is certainly big enough X3

Fatum and Letum
Posted 15 years agoThe Latin words for "Fate of life" and "Fate of death" (respectively). I kind of liked the idea that
furrywolf999 pitched to me about enchanting a sword. I've slightly changed it around a bit, though.
I'm working on a character design with a sword and a set of full platemail. The Latin words earlier will be the names of twin spirits that my character has made some sort of pact with to enchant his armor and weapon.
I'm still working on it X3

A classic
Posted 15 years agoPoem X3
By Lewis Carrol
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Posted 15 years agoThink of a super-powered person named "Crimson Knight." Just get a mental image based only off the name. Doesn't matter if it's a hero or a villain.
What's his superpower?
