Posted 4 years agoTrying to find time to post art again. Got a bit of a backlog, not just here, but other sites as well. I'll be posting one piece a day til I catch up again.
In other news, I've made a discord server to replace my telegram channel and group chat, since I'm much more active on discord than anywhere else. I've posted a bunch of my art there that I haven't gotten around to uploading yet, and I'll be doing frequent streams there as well (no vc, only stream >:U) if anybody is interested in watching my bullshit. This is where I'll also be opening commissions before I open them anywhere else.
Discord Community: https://discord.gg/Scy9xbHy2Z
Hope to see you there.

2020 is hindsight - Updates
Posted 6 years agoSo, not a whole lot has changed from last year to this one. But numerous things have definitely shifted since the beginning of last decade.
2010 was when my art “career” finally “took off”. I use quotes here because it was neither a true career, nor was there any point where my artwork became popular in any sense of the word. I’d been doing commissions on and off since 2001, but they were quite few and far between, and I didn’t rely on them. 2010 was when I finally left retail and figured I had the skill and determination to be a self-employed illustrator. Things were good for a few years.
Within the past couple years, I’ve realized that I hardly ever have fun with commissions anymore. Between becoming overly nitpicky about the quality, spending way too much time on something I should have stopped messing with hours before I declared something finished, and just having very little interest spending more than six hours on content that means very little to me, I have made a few small changes to how I’ll work moving forward.
Prices
Prices on many commission types have stayed the same, but I’ve raised them a bit in two places: full illustrations, and sketches. I’ve also done away with the modular menu of illustration types. I no longer offer options between simple lined or detail lined, or the option to get simple shading or just flats. All illustrations will be fully detailed to the best I can do, with a choice between lined or lineless. The cheaper options are still available in the form of colored sketches or wingits, since the detail level of my colored sketches have pretty much become on par with the lower-end, fully lined illustrations that I used to offer that they are basically the same thing at this point. There really was no point having so many variations on the same thing, and I think it confused and overwhelmed people.
Why the price increases?
Feature creep, essentially. I’ve been taking “simple” illustrations, sketches, etc, charging the price I’d charge for a certain amount of work, then doing twice as much work/detail as I had intended.
So why don’t I just keep prices the same and reign in the detail?
I’ve tried. I’m a “semi-perfectionist”, and it’s very hard to hold myself back and deliver something I feel isn’t “finished” or is messy. Truthfully, I’d rather give my customers something I’m pleased with rather than just something I feel is mediocre and rough, and hope they find the price justified for the quality.
NSFW Material
I’m now being much more selective about NSFW commissions. I’m not completely dropping porn from my “will draw” list, but it will be mostly restricted to sketches and wingits. This is because of issues stated above: my lack of joy with a lot of the subject matter. I don’t have much issue spending 2-6 hours on a colored sketch depicting some fetish, but on a piece that can take 10-30 hours such as a painting, I can begin to tire of the piece because there’s nothing there that particularly calls to me, which can cause the quality to suffer. That, and, it has been established that I’m not particularly good with certain aspects of porn, namely the “mood”, “feeling” and overall “hotness”. This isn’t really something that I can resolve with practice. It’s just something I don’t have the proper headspace for. This is not so bad with quicker, cheaper sketches, but the overworking of a larger piece can really draw attention to it, because I’m too busy focusing on the artistic side rather than the sexual one.
This is not to say that I will always turn down a commission for a NSFW painting. But I will have to really enjoy the setting or concept in order to accept it. If you’re interested in an illustration, definitely do send me an email and ask what I think of your idea. Worst case scenario, I’ll tell you that I’m not the right artist for the job. Best case scenario, I’ll fucking love the idea.
Personal Work
Going forward, I want to make this the year that I start doing more personal work. I have numerous stories floating around in my head (and in progress of writing) that I might share, either in the form of comics or illustrations accompanying writing. Some are furry, but most are not. I'm unsure what my followers will think of less furry and more human art/stories, but I think it's a risk I have to take.
Expanding Presence and Being Social?
Those who follow me on Twitter knows that I only ever post old art and the odd other thing if I feel like it. Those who follow me on FA are probably wondering why there's been over a month between recent posts. Those who follow me on any other art site knows that I'm still trying to catch up posting older art and I'm a year behind. I barely ever answer comments. I barely speak in Telegram or Discord chats except to crosspost memes. I don't have a facebook account. I don't use tumblr, or instagram. I don't schedule or advertise art streams anymore, and rarely stream unless a customer requests it. There's no doubt that this lack of communication and no constant reminder that I exist is hindering my business.
This is difficult for me. I'm not by nature a social person. I don't believe that I'm depressed (my psychologist doesn't think so either), but those moods where I genuinely feel like sharing anything or even just chatting with others are few and far between.
I used to stream all the time back in 2011-2015, and had fun chatting with those who showed up. I'd like to get back into doing that stuff again, even though it seems like the art streaming landscape has changed and hardly anybody shows up anymore. I'd like my goal for this year to be, if nothing else, to try to catch up on my backlog of submissions, keep up with posting new ones, answer more comments, and maybe even use twitter more, even if just to post what's on my mind even if nobody cares. But you'll still never get me to use facebook!

God of Flies killed my phone out of revenge
Posted 7 years agoOn Tues I was in the kitchen, and there was a huge fly in there just flying low in circles, so I golfed it with the fly swatter. It bounced off the wall so hard that its ass flew off. It was the funniest shit, I was laughing so hard, and I was like, I need to take a picture of this to show everyone.
So I took a picture of the fly with the severed ass... and my phone crashed. It crashed so hard that it got stuck in a boot loop that never actually booted the phone. A factory reset solved the issue, but as I was dragging an icon onto the desktop area, it crashed again, and the cycle started all over again.
I had to buy a new phone.
So either I killed that fly so hard that it never existed, and taking a picture of it created a paradox, or it was the god of flies who cursed me for destroying it.
(It can't be that the phone was almost 3 years old and might have had heat damage, no siree)

Megaplex preorders and TEA BLEND LIST - TEA LOVERS NEEDED
Posted 7 years agoMegaplex is approaching (two weeks, holy crap!), and I yet again have a table in the dealer's den. I will be doing simple badges and monochrome sketches at con, and taking home all other types. I'll also be selling prints, art supplies and my furry themed looseleaf tea blends.
Tea blends
The past couple years at the con, I had three blends of tea for sale. Car-acal-amel, Chai-osie, and Jumpy Jaguar (I know, stupid puns... just wait, there's more of them). This year I made a bunch of new blends as well. But I can't bring all of them with me, so I'll choose four flavors to bring this year. This is where I need the help of my fellow tea lovers.
Whether you're going to the con or not, I'd like to know which teas on the list sound the most appealing to you. Which would you want to drink? They all sound good, I know, but try to limit your vote to four flavors.
Here's the list
Let me know in the comments below which ones you'd pick.
Badge preorders
I know it's a little late to be opening preorders for badges, but I generally don't get that many so I'm not too worried about it.
If you'd like to preorder a badge before the con, check out my badge info page

Commission price revision - What you need to know
Posted 7 years agoUnfortunately for me, I am way overdue for a revision and raise of some of my commission prices. I've been undercharging for quite some time now, so a review is in order. I'm not sure yet if all commission types will be affected, or by how much, but the larger pieces will be.
JULY 1st, PRICES WILL GO UP ON ALL OR MOST COMMISSION TYPES. My website will be updated accordingly to reflect the new prices.
I will also be revising the policy in my TOS for incremental payments, perhaps also touching some other things in my TOS to make sure it's all up to date.
I may also be adding new commission types soon, for things like set design, fantasy world maps, costume and prop design, language and culture design, and other stuff along those lines. If a commission like that interests you, I still am not sure on set prices for any of those, so give me a poke and we can work out a fair proto-price to do the work so I can settle on a future price for the type.
Who this affects
If I give you a solid quote for a commission today or tomorrow and you pay within the next week, this does not affect you.
After tomorrow, all price quotes will be using the updated pricing scheme.

Reminder: YCH Painted Portraits Still available

Posted 8 years agoI got a kitten a couple weeks ago. Her name is Tawny, and she's 5 months old. The shelter named her, and though I had a list of potential names I was considering, the name she already had has grown on me. She's also a tortie like Faggot was. But she doesn't seem to have the bitchy attitude most other torties tend to have, so my hiss supply has run out.

Kittentits really likes her. I think he was lonely after Faggot died, and now he has someone to play with who has more energy than him. They chase each other up and down the hall.

Impending incoming kitten
Posted 8 years agoYesterday I went to see a kitten that I had applied for. I would have taken her home that same day, except they mentioned that they found a flea on her when they brought her back to the shelter from the foster's and only just gave her the treatment on saturday. Since I really don't want fleas in my house, they're hanging on to her for a few days until they confirm that she is flea-free. I haven't decided on what to name her yet. She has a name she was given, but I'm likely going to change it.
In the meantime, I'd like to get a few things for her (collar, bed, some toys, etc) so if anybody wants to grab a small commission like a sketch of some kind or icon/portrait, or any type really, that would be great.
Check my site http://mooncatart.com for commission types, and hit me up if interested! Much appreciated.

cat update
Posted 8 years agoIn my last journal, I mentioned that my cat Faggot had suddenly improved from her breathing troubles and started eating again, and was practically back to normal.
On Dec30, I took her back to the vet for more ear drops because she'd started scratching at it again. The ear drops must have made her nauseated because within a couple days, her appetite had taken a nosedive again. What she would eat was very little, certain textures seemed to bother her. Gravy and the bisque lickable treats were the only things she would consistently consume on her own, and only in small quantities at a time before she would turn her head and assume the hunched position. . She even lost interest in temptations treats and would only take soft treats. Eventually she lost interest in the soft treats as well.
I did my best to try to get food into her but syringe feeding her was extremely difficult and stressful for both of us. As of a couple days ago, despite her slowly starving herself, she was still capable of getting up and walking around, drinking water, and going to the litter to pee whenever she needed to. But on Wed morning, when I took her into the bathroom to try to syringe feed her, I noticed she was having trouble walking on the tiles, and sliding around. Later that evening, I noticed that it wasn't just the tile, but on carpet as well she was stumbling around like she was drunk, and seemed to have mobility issues in her left limbs. This was also when I noticed that she had started to become jaundiced as well.
It quickly progressed worse from there. She would lay with me quietly until she needed to pee, then would struggle away in the direction of the box. I had to hold her upright in the box for her to use it, otherwise she would faceplant into the litter. If I left her laying alone for more than five minutes, she would struggle to get up, so I stayed with her all that night, holding her in my lap, and petting her. At some point during this time, her mind must have already clocked out, because she was no longer responding to stimuli except to wrap her paws around my arm to pull it closer. On Thurs morning, we made an appointment with the vet to euthanize her, but the appointment wasn't until around 4pm. At around 2:30, she started taking her death gasps, and finally ceased to be at around 3pm.
A part of me is glad that she died at home in my arms rather than at the vet's without me able to hold her. But at the same time I feel selfish for not calling the vet on Wed and having her euthanized then, when it became clear she could no longer stand upright. I have no way of knowing whether or not she was in pain during that time, because she was not the type to meow or yowl.
I've been told that none of this was my fault and I shouldn't blame myself for what happened, but I honestly believe that if I'd taken her to the vet back before she lost a lot of weight already, I would have been able to save her.

More cat update, a positive one this time
Posted 8 years agoSo that furosemide shot the vet gave her yesterday actually really helped. By midnight, her breathing was approaching a normal rate with only a very soft sound and minimal stomach movement, much like when I first noticed the issue. When I woke up in the morning, her breathing was normal with no sound, and she started purring when I pet her. She didn't purr at all over the weekend when she was struggling to breathe, so that was a very positive sign. Also she sneezed a few times again, which started after her dental surgery and only stopped when her breathing was compromised. She's alert, and interested in treats and bits of food. A pouch of gravy sensations got her excited, and though she only licked the gravy off of them, that's way better than what she was doing.
I picked up her prescription of furosemide pills, which was only $10 for 20. I'm unsure if this lung incident is from a single trauma or an underlying condition we don't know about, so I don't know if it's cleared or if it will continue to recur. So I got the pills just in case.
Here's a small video I made yesterday just before the vet visit. You can see her chest heaving and hear the rasping sound.

Cat update again
Posted 8 years agoI got her xrays done at the vet. It's not good. Both of her lungs are failing, filled with fluid that's not pneumonia. The vet thinks she probably won't last more than a week, but he gave her a shot of furosemide which is supposed to help clear the fluid so she can breathe easier, which lasts for about a day. He said there's pills I can give her that do the same thing if the shot actually helps. Whether it helps or not, she's on borrowed time.
He doesn't think it was the fall that caused it, but I'm still unsure about that. She hit the ground pretty hard and completely winded herself. She'd been breathing just fine before that. But who knows. We don't.
The cost for the xray and whatnot wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Not sure how much the pills might cost, but the vet said they were pretty cheap.
I'm very grateful to all of you who got a commission, and those who expressed interest in doing so. If you were going to get one to help out, you don't need to anymore. Unless you want to. That's fine too. I still have other bills to pay after all.

EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS OPEN NOW
Posted 8 years agoMy cat is having a medical emergency. All commissions pay for her vet care. See journal here if you wish: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8546465/
All types of commissions are open. Even if the type you're interested isn't listed on my site, let me know anyways and we can work something out. All ratings. And in light of this serious situation, anything goes subjectwise if it's a flat color scene or larger.
http://www.mooncatart.com/
Also will be doing a pay what you want sketch stream on friday (if conditions allow), so please keep an eye out for that if interested.

Another update on my cat - not sure what to do
Posted 8 years agoShe's taken a turn for the worst. This is probably going to be tl;dr, so if you aren't interested in the sick cat of a random furry porn artist, feel free to press the back button.
After coming home from the vet, and the anesthesia wore off, she did go back to eating soft food, though she was sneezing a lot. After a couple days of still seeming to have trouble chewing the meaty bits in the food and just licking the gravy off, I got her some pate food, which in the past she didn't like very much, but seemed to appreciate it much more now that she was hungry because it was easy to eat.
Then on Thursday, I saw her fall off the cat tree. She landed on her feet so it didn't seem that big of a deal, but it concerned me because she's never fallen off of things before. Then later she fell off the back of my chair, but caught herself and hung on and dropped safely to the floor. Figured the residual ear infection maybe made her dizzy, but the vet gave her an antibiotic, and she wasn't scratching at her ear anymore. Then the next day she fell off the cat tree again, except this time she landed on her side and started gasping for breath. I pet her until she started breathing normally again, it seemed like she'd just winded herself. That night she didn't eat very much. Also I don't recall her sneezing at all after she fell, which she had been doing pretty often up until then after her dental surgery.
On saturday, the only thing she ate was a very small amount of pate from my fingers, but was mostly refusing food. Later that night, I could hear her breathing from across the room. It sounded like a faint ticking clock. Sunday was the same, except she ate nothing at all, turned her head away from me whenever I offered her food. Her breathing was a normal rate, but was still making a faint ticking sound. I didn't think too much about it at the time. But I was concerned about her lack of eating at all over the weekend, and called the vet on monday. He saw her that afternoon. I mentioned about how she had fallen off my chair, and off the cat tree twice, and her appetite had declined again. He suggested that she might still be dizzy and nauseous from the ear infection. He checked her over, and gave her a b vitamin shot and I think more antibiotics. I bought a few cans of Hills a/d to try to get her eating again. He said to call the next day to let him know how she's doing. That vet trip was another $75.
She ate a small portion of the Hills a/d, maybe the equivalent of a tablespoon, and drank a bit of unsalted chicken broth. But by yesterday morning, her breathing became more shallow and rapid, the ticking sound sounded more like a soft patting. She refused to eat more pate from my hands, but every so often would lick some more chicken broth. She did get up and go to the litter box around 4:30 in the afternoon, which was surprising because the whole weekend she'd basically been stationary.
I wasn't sure what to do about the breathing issue, so I called the vet. Mentioned the breathing issue and her continued refusal to eat. He said he wasn't sure what could be causing her to breathe that way, and she would need to get an xray in order to provide any further clues. For the inappetence, he suggested I try syringe feeding her, so my brother in law went to the pet store to get a syringe for me.
While I was waiting for him, she came out from under the kotatsu where she'd been not-sleeping, and had a sudden terrifying attack of gasping, panting with her mouth open, flopped over onto her side and laid there gasping for at least ten minutes. I was so sure that this was it, and she was dying right there.
Thankfully, her breathing returned back to how it was before the attack, still not ideal, but at least stable. After I got the syringe, I waited a little while before trying to feed her. Chaosie and I managed to get a little bit into her before she started struggling and triggered another gasping attack from the exertion.
Basically I've been awake since around 8pm monday keeping an eye on her, stressing out, and crying. Spent an hour or more in the bathroom with her with a humidifier on, slowly and gently easing more food into her. Got about one full syringe of diluted food into her over the course of that hour with no incident other than she was probably tired of me sticking things in her mouth.
I spent most of yesterday and this morning looking online for various causes for rapid breathing and refusal to eat, thought it could have been a reaction to the antibiotics. Then I thought about how she'd fallen off the cat tree and landed on her side, and now I wonder if she's got a collapsed lung.
I'm calling the vet again when they open. It's likely I'll need to get her xray'd. I'm not exactly poor, but the medical bills for her already have been over $400, and we just don't have the money right now to deal with this. I'm not asking for handouts, but I really really would be eternally grateful for any commissions of any kind right now. I'm thinking of doing a pwyw stream on Friday, (or multiple ones) to help pay for her medical bills. I'll post a separate journal about that though.
Please, if you've been considering getting a commission from me at some point, (or have before and thought about getting another) now is the time. If you can't get or don't want a commission, spreading the word helps a lot as well. Anybody who posts a journal or tweet or whathaveyou about my situation and link back to me will be entered in a raffle for free sketches.

Update on Faggot - Still taking commissions
Posted 8 years agoShe went to the vet yesterday because she's not been eating much and lost like 5lbs.
The good news: I got her bloodwork results today, everything there looks good. No sign of kidney issues or any other diseases.
The not so good news: She did have an ear infection and a cracked molar, which was the source of her lack of interest in eating. Both of these issues were addressed, and the dental surgery plus the bloodwork, plus of course the vet visit itself, totaled out to $350. It's a lot, but honestly not as bad as I was expecting it to be considering it included dental surgery and anasthesia.
So yeah, if you want a commission, now is a good time to get one from me. Any kind. Themed holiday commissions or Christmas gifts might be a good idea, and I can definitely deliver before Christmas.

Vet Appointment for cat - funds needed, commissions open
Posted 8 years agoFaggot, my 14 year old tortie has been not quite well the past couple weeks and has a vet appointment next Tuesday. Below is tl;dr, so you can skip if you like, down to the bottom where I am open for commissions.
Not exactly sure what's wrong with her, but she's getting old, obviously.
She's had issues with one of her ears on and off where it would bother her for a few days, she'd clean it excessively and scratch at it. The ear is a bit dirty inside with wax buildup, whereas her other ear is fine and has never bothered her. I've used Zymox ear cleaner on her, and it seems to help with that - when I can actually get it in her ear. She hates it, and it's a struggle to apply it, never know how much of the liquid is actually getting inside. But her ear would stop bothering her for weeks even though it didn't look any cleaner, then after a while would start bothering her again.
More recently, however, I've noticed a significant decrease in her appetite and increasing instances of foamy vomit. Over the past couple weeks, she's lost a lot of weight, and where she used to eat every single kibble left out, even tried to eat Kittentits' food, about half of her food is still remaining every day. She used to weigh 16lbs when last weighed her before her appetite decreased, today she weighs 11. It's hard to tell by looking at her that she lost any weight, because she's still very round, but I could tell she was getting lighter, since I carry her around a lot. She likes riding on my shoulder. Also while she often sleeps on the back of my chair while I'm working, lately I've been hearing her stomach gurgling, which I've never heard it do before. Sometimes her poops have been dry, and there have been instances where she's had dingleberries and dropped them on the carpet or dragged her butt on the carpet, so I suspected perhaps intestinal issues, probably a symptom of something bigger.
Researching her symptoms, I figured either since her ear is bothering her again, perhaps it's causing her jaw to become sore, which makes it unpleasant to eat, and therefore is losing weight and throwing up bile like cats do when their tummy is empty, or it's something more serious like a kidney issue and isn't ear related at all. I hope that it isn't kidney related, because that is chronic and eventually fatal (though with proper care, a cat with kidney disease can live comfortably for many more years before total failure).
Either way, as an elderly cat, she'll need geriatric tests done at the vet next Tues, and I have no idea how much any of that is going to cost, but since I gather it includes bloodwork and xrays, it's probably not cheap.
So, commissions. They're open. Any kind of commission. Preferably I'd like to do more detailed larger scenes if possible, since I like painting and coloring the most, but at the moment, any little bit helps. There's no slot limit, but I'd prefer if anybody who wishes to get a commission does so before next Tuesday, as that is when I will need to pay for the appointment.
Smaller commissions like sketches (colored or monochrome) or a flat colored wingit or two, can be done this weekend, most likely. Any larger works will be worked on throughout December. Any holiday related piece or gift can most definitely be done before Christmas.
If you want a commission but won't be able to pay before Tuesday, that's completely fine. We have money in savings if needed, but that will need to be replenished if we need to use it.
